For such a central and popular concept, ironically, Demons are actually a rather uncommon sight in many translations of the Bible. For the most part, several attestations of demons are relegated to the old testament, with the new testament seeming to focus most on demons in terms of spiritual possession and the like. However, many biblical stories that have demons within them seem to have a few common trends, whether it be references to demons in reference to grimoires or, more strangely, and more rarely, translating gods from other religions into demons. This can be observed in Dante’s Inferno most obviously, with several deities from other religions seeming to be reinterpreted as demons or sorcerers. However, while most can recognize deities from throughout this trend as not originating as demons, some are a bit more obscure, especially when this trend spreads to other books. One such deity of course, is today’s Demon of the Day, Adrammelech: an ancient semitic deity turned demon in Paradise Lost. 

While only mentioned briefly in the Book of Kings, Adrammelech is a very curious figure in the world of Biblical study. For those unaware, the Book of Kings is a book situated in the Hebrew bible cut in two parts, including mythologized accounts of real history in order to tell the theologized story of the destruction of the Kingdom of Judah by Babylon. Of course, like many books in the bible, the Book of Kings is long, interspersed between Luke and Leviticus, and its two parts are a rather complicated read overall, but for our purposes, we only need to focus on a mention in Kings 2, particularly in 17:31.

Interesting to note here is the mention of ‘Sepharviam,’ a word that has contested meanings and is said to be grammatically dual, but is generally agreed to mean the cities of Sippar Yahrurum and Sippar-Amnanum. Both of those cities, notably, were placed just north of Babylon, noted home of sinners and all sorts of nasty stuff, so the antagonistic role that Adrammelech is painted in is rather obvious in its origins already. Also, Anammelech is mentioned in the above passage, but basically nothing is known about said god, so we’ll just brush over that. 

Adrammelech’s name meaning ‘Magnificent King’ has been connected to Baal, though it’s commonly believed that Adrammelech and Baal are different beings with simply similar epithets. However, this does tie into the fact that, much like Baal, Adrammelech was a semitic deity whose worship was rather extremely depicted in the Bible. This isn’t the only place Adrammelech shows up, though- the Talmud has its own appearance in it of this god, where it gives us a physical description. To quote the Jewish Encyclopedia, 

The Talmud teaches (Sanh. 63b) that Adrammelech was an idol of the Sepharvaim in the shape of an ass. This is to be concluded from his name, which is compounded of  "to carry" (compare Syriac ), and  "a king." These heathen worshiped as God the same animal which carried their burdens (Sanh. l.c.; see also Rashi's explanation of this passage which interprets  "to distinguish," by "carrying"). Still another explanation of the name ascribes to the god the form of a peacock and derives the name from adar ("magnificent") and melek ("king"); Yer. 'Ab. Zarah, iii. 42d.

And all of this, eventually, ties into Adrammelech’s appearance in Paradise Lost, where he finally appears as a demon, and an incredibly powerful one at that, one who fights alongside Asmodeus but is eventually vanquished by Uriel and Raphael. To quote, 

Down clov’n to the waste, with shatterd Armes And uncouth paine fled bellowing. On each wing URIEL and RAPHAEL his vaunting foe, Though huge, and in a Rock of Diamond Armd, Vanquish’d ADRAMELEC, and ASMADAI, 365 Two potent Thrones, that to be less then Gods 

Finally, as a solid explanation and image for Adramelech, as he barely appears in said poem, we get a description in the Infernal Dictionary, a book by one Collin de Plancy going over yet another compendium of demons, in which he is depicted as a chancellor of hell and among Satan’s cabinet, appearing in the form of a humanoid body with a mule’s head and a peacock’s tail. A rather faithfully adapted design into SMT, funny enough. 

Lastly, though, he appears in, drumroll please…  the Ars Goetia! YEAH!!!! Unfortunately, his given name is Andrealphus, though everything else is accurate, strange appearance and all. A strange story for an even stranger demon, I must say, but also a fitting start to the countdown to 100.

Stereotypes and ethnophaulisms does not benefit anyone. We all lose in doing that. Type III Timid Bigot is fearful of being bashed for being otherwise. I feel sorry for myself that I am surrounded by those settle to be not thinking full of whatever stereotypes and ethnophaulisms that comes to mind. I have rejected family and friends any medias that promote biases. There is a rainbow of emotions other than shaming others self-gain.

I identified in total thirty seven stereotypes and ethnophaulisms. They were all taken into consideration and recorded. I did not find it uncomfortable but somewhat comical. I am giving myself a chance to learn and change as well as others. I like many others will make others feel bad just to make ourselves feel good. I will be more fact-based in my approach and more considerate of others. 

My split family backgrounds, a Father with all Vietnamese relatives that for the most part are biased towards Americans. A Mother of open mixed race marriages appreciation for upper-class European British-descents. These are things that I have learnt as a child unknowingly. These are things that have been carried on into adulthood. I dislike my stereotypes and ethnophaulisms being exposed. I like the potential of having more productive interactions among all. It is easy to not think with the masses and stereotype.

 Ethnophaulisms need to be addressed in fixed thinking. Hate speech is protected constitutionally yet needs refraining and reframing. We as the best country in the world, Americans should make more groups and subgroups where people of all walks of life feel a sense of belonging, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” 

Freedom of religion means acknowledgements of others who are not Christian nor Jewish, pagan by choice by constitution living in the United States and more so abroad studies are key. The need to be like-minded has created sustained stereotypes and ethnophaulisms. These are broadcasted daily on all platforms and readily accepted. During the Coronavirus Pandemic these issues threatened humanity, from Asian hate to crimes being committed against the police world-wide. Blacks are still called blacks by the Whites, although black reference color not people. We must identify these stereotypes and ethnophaulisms and correct them.

They are racist, sexist, and toxic for the mind of individual more so society. Our conscious is bombarded with them without mercy. The subconscious underneath it all is void of uneducated ethics. It is a great time to unlearn stereotypes and ethnophaulisms. We must turn how we really feel into what is factually and proper. The only person that can change is not the collective whole, it’s the self. The opportunity, this class is a start to perhaps. Let us find more reasons to coexist, love be sustainably unbiased. 

Color blindness is a reduced ability to distinguish between certain colors. The condition is often inherited. ”Colorblindedness is an ideology of worldview that minimizes the role of systemic racism in shaping outcomes for people of color and attributes racial disparities to the bad choices and poor behavior of racial minorities” (National Library of Medicine). I am viewed as a problem now. An Amerasian that is Vietnamese, Native Indian, and Spainard. Perhaps its because I am genderless and a tomboy. Perhaps it is because I am Baptist but like the Catholic church. Perhaps it is because I am Vietnamese from Little Rock, Arkansas. Tracy self-hatred is the root problems for stirring others to hate. I am quite resolved love myself and everyone loves me irregardless. My Vietnamese heritage could not identify with Tracy. My American friends cannot identify with her either. 

It is bad. It’s ugly. The need to be judgmental seems peer pressured created in societies. We hate others to be liked. We outcast others to fit in. We are shame and shame others contrarily. We all have been polluted by stereotypes and ethnophaulisms undeniably. French soldiers beheaded the and anything Vietnamese. I was shocked to find these photos showcased on Google images. French conceit carried on is awful historically. 

I am proud of who I am and disgusted more so of systemic racisms. This is what insecure people with identity crisis cling onto me and others. I find that I am not racist. The colonization of races needs to be unlearnt. It might take a lifetime to be free ourselves from ignorance. No one can impose their beliefs onto others least forgotten. 

It is not where I am from but where we are all going. Those who refuses to change only stunts themselves. A better world awaits young and old together is wiser. Collectively we will manifest our own future and legacy, and empower those around us with knowledge and wisdom in order to live in a world where many worlds fit.

Jimmy Eat World have announced vinyl pressings for the Futures and Surviving “Phoenix Sessions” and a special one off show. Full details can be found below. Los Angeles, CA, August 13, 2024 — This is a celebratory year for the acclaimed alternative rock band Jimmy Eat World as it gears up for the 20th anniversary of their gold-certified fifth studio album, Futures (2004 / Interscope Records), and the 5th anniversary of their 10th studio album, Surviving (2019 / RCA Records). I. Early life and education.

Lia was born on July 21, 2000, as Choi Ji-su (최지수), in Incheon, South Korea. She spent a part of her childhood in Canada and attended North London Collegiate School in Jeju. She graduated from School of Performing Arts Seoul in 2019. Lia initially auditioned for SM Entertainment and passed but was forced to back out at the last minute due to a disagreement with her parents. In 2017, Lia passed the auditions for JYP Entertainment and trained for two years under the agency.

II. Career.

2019 – Present: Debut with ITZY (있지)

On February 12, 2019, Lia officially debuted as a member of Itzy, with the release of their digital single album, It’z Different with the single “Dalla Dalla”. As a member of the group, she contributed the ballad “Always Be Your Star” for MBC’s The Red Sleeve in 2022. Lia later recorded “Blue Flower” for tvN’s Alchemy of Souls 2 , which peaked at 184 in the Circle Chart. Later, she released “One Hundred Love” for the original soundtrack of Dr. Romantic.

On September 18, 2023, JYP Entertainment announced that Lia would be taking a hiatus due to anxiety. While on hiatus, Lia released “Blossom”, a solo track dedicated to her fans, which she co-wrote with Sim Eun-ji as part of the group’s studio album Born to Be.

On July 9, 2024, JYP Entertainment announced that Lia would be resuming activities with Itzy, starting with a new album set to be released in the second half of the year.

III. Philanthropy.

In January 2020, Lia was one of the celebrities who participated in Gmarket Global Shop’s “Give Love" donation campaign. On August 17, 2022, Lia donated ₩30 million (approximately US$23,152) to The Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association, for helping the flood victims.

The most powerful rocket ever built has finally taken off for the first time. The Space Launch System (SLS) launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida at 1.47 am EST on 16 November (6.47 am GMT), the rocket’s first flight and the first stepping stone of NASA’s path back to the moon.

This launch is the opening salvo of the Artemis programme, so the mission is called Artemis I. The launch was a triumphant beginning to the mission, which is set to last 26 days. During this time the Orion crew capsule at the tip of the rocket will glide to the moon, orbit it for six days and then return to Earth to splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California.

For Artemis I, Orion isn’t carrying any astronauts. Instead, it holds mannequins equipped with sensors to measure radiation levels and the forces that astronauts would have to endure if they were aboard. It also carries 10 small satellites called cubesats to study space weather and the moon, and to demonstrate technology that will be useful for future missions. One even has a solar sail and will attempt to fly to a small asteroid.

“We’re missing no opportunity to do science right away, that’s why we have the cubesats there and the experiments and so forth – whatever we can do, we will,” says NASA associate administrator Thomas Zurbuchen.

One of the main goals is to test Orion’s heat shield, which will undergo temperatures of almost 2800°C as it enters Earth’s atmosphere at upwards of 40,000 kilometres per hour. “The risk for Orion is higher than the risk for the rocket,” Zurbuchen told New Scientist. “Bringing Orion back is going to be as big a challenge as getting off the Earth.” If Orion passes that crucial test, the next step will be its first crewed flight, Artemis II.

Planned for 2024, the crewed mission will be a flight around the moon and is planned to last only about 10 days. Finally, in 2025, Artemis III is expected to take two astronauts to the surface of the moon – including the first woman ever to set foot there. It will be the first crewed lunar landing since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972 and, NASA officials hope, the beginning of a long project to build a lunar space station and a sustained human exploration programme on the moon.

“We’re hoping to do this in a more sustainable manner, so that we can have a long-term presence on the moon rather than just putting boots down and poking around a little bit,” says Emily Judd at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Virginia. “As part of that, we will be testing out new technologies, new vehicles, getting crew members practice for longer-duration missions, which all leads towards expanding our presence out further into the solar system, looking towards sending crew to Mars.”

As the rocket hurtled off into the sky, it was hard to forget the long road that led here. The SLS programme began in 2011 with a mandate to be fully operational by the end of 2016. Technical difficulties and budget overruns delayed the launch time and time again, so much so that it became a joke in the space flight community – “when SLS launches” was almost akin to “when hell freezes over”. After delays throughout August, September and October due to engine cooling issues, fuel leaks and weather, the fact that it has finally flown is almost unbelievable.
