Chandigarh citizens to get ready for paying Rs. 1000 fine for honking near hospitals
If you haven’t already started adhering to the no honking policy of Chandigarh administration, you can be charged with a fine of Rs. 1000 soon for honking at hospital premises. The Chandigarh police has already run many awareness drives in and around the hospital campuses for last 15 days and now is all set to issue challans to the offenders. The rule was decided in the police headquarters on Monday, during a meeting. To ensure that each violation is dealt with attention, traffic marshals and cops will be deployed at the hospital premises.
As per the rule, honking at the site of Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, and PGI after 15 days, said Yashpal Vinayak, DSP (traffic), UT. Police will use all means including social media, newspapers and boards to make sure the residents at these areas know about the no-honking rule. The next phase of this policy will cover school, colleges and universities. Sharma added that everyone knows about the no honking rule near schools, colleges, universities and hospitals but, sadly, no motorist follows it.
Implementing the rule on hospitals at the primary phase also has a strong reason, “As a large number of people visit hospitals, issuing challans here will spread the message of faster across the Tricity,” officials said.
The DSP Chandigarh said that all the necessary boards and signage about the fine and the rule are already been put on different points of the city to make the people aware. The no honking rule is applicable to many city areas but people aren’t following it. This is the very reason Chandigarh police administration has to take strict measures.
