another tally on the ā€œthings about jack that have been almost erased by the baby auā€ is how genuinely fucked up and weird and scary and violent and horrifying he is. the body horror of his existence is so. Palpable.
he looks human, but he still fundamentally is not human, and the thing that separates him from being human or belonging or being normal and loved and accepted without strings attached is his own bloodline. his own family, his own father. the blood that runs through his veins is the blood of the devil and he wasnā€™t fed it like Sam. the anger and rage and capacity for violence inside him isnā€™t an ancient curse like it was for Dean. Itā€™s just who he is. Itā€™s his neurology. Jack enters a guilt/grief-induced psychosis so bad he starts hallucinating his own dead evil father who proceeds to say ā€œIā€™m in your head, your DNA,ā€ and goes on about how Jackā€™s place with the only chosen family he ever cared for is that of their little pet monster whoā€™s only kept around to kill things for them. And this is his subconscious, remember, these are all Jackā€™s own thoughts being given a hallucinatory voice.
When jack is first born he doesnā€™t even register that heā€™s not a full human. Itā€™s not until he catches dean telling the sheriff that heā€™s a Nephil and gets stabbed all the way through his entire heart to the hilt of the angel blade and survives, that he realizes heā€™s Not Normal. Jack stabs himself 18 times with ā€œgrim determination,ā€ dedicated to making a wound stay open in his body, but nothing happens. He doesnā€™t know what any of this is, but he knows itā€™s dangerous and heā€™s seen firsthand what he can do, because he sent the sheriff careening backwards into glass when he didnā€™t mean to do anything more than push her away. He tells Dean he will hurt someone again [whether he means to or not]. And he tells Sam, using his powers is like breathing; itā€™s a subconscious, physical, neurological part of his system that he cannot (currently) consciously control or stop.
Heā€™s literally a living weapon. These powers of his that hurt people are akin to breathing. His violence and his evil is deep seated and runs through his heart and bleeds out of him. But he canā€™t bleed the evil out. He canā€™t escape what he was born into or what keeps him alive. He canā€™t even live without this nuclear power that ostensibly others him from everyone forever. Heā€™s foaming at the mouth and seizing and fainting and bleeding and going into total systemic failure and subsequently dying as a human because he just isnā€™t human and he canā€™t live as one even if he wants to, even if that is a part of him it still isnā€™t the only part of him. The other half that makes him untrustworthy and violent and angry and dangerous and nuclear and evil and feared and hated is the one part he is left dying without.
His body dies a first time because it couldnā€™t live without its own hereditary disease, he died as a human and goes to human heaven and sees and rekindles with his human mother, the part of him that he wants to be and loves but canā€™t exist as. Heā€™s brought back but now heā€™s a time bomb, a nuclear reactor internally melting down. heā€™s a weapon, but heā€™s alive because he was born as a weapon, and neither of these things were his choice.
and then a second time his body dies because he was only registered as a threat with no humanity. his eyes are burned out of his skull and instead of heaven with his mother, instead of humanity, he wakes up in the pitch black abyss where other nonhumans go when they die, then heā€™s brought back and heā€™s a weapon for the third time. Heā€™s a living bomb, a collapsing black hole, and he has to eat human hearts ripped straight from the chest to keep his bomb body alive and ready for detonation, ready for collapse. Heā€™s so far from human, further than he ever wanted to be, further enough to make his deep rooted fear a reality that heā€™s too suicidal to bother rebuking. Why rebuke the truth? The absolute truth that the devil, the evil of all things is in his blood and he is evil and he was a born weapon whose body exists to destroy and kill and not even his own love or will can stop it.
He is a gun that doesnā€™t want to be a gun and hates that his body is made to shoot and kill, but he has no choice in being anything else but a gun. He cannot ever be good, he was never good to begin with, he was just malfunctioning, glitching, experiencing an error and virus and flaw that he wishes was his entire programming. His eyes glow yellow like the corrupted Star Wars Sith and Rosemaryā€™s Baby and a whole slew of evil things that are evil and meant to be rejected. When he gets angry, people stare at him as if heā€™s a cornered animal, because thatā€™s what he is to them. To both sides of the equation, he is an animal. A foreign creature, a thing, heā€™s not human enough to be human and heā€™s not angelic enough to be an Angel. Heā€™s some weird mixture that nobody can understand or accept. Heā€™s unpredictable and violent and wild and born that way and only in his subsequent domestication, only in the extension of personhood and humanity can he be deemed worth loving. Heā€™s like a dog, detrimentally loyal, old yeller going rabid while saving his family and having to be shot in an act of mercy. Barking and biting at people who might hurt his loved ones and killing them as an act of love. Sam wanted Nick to burn so Jack burns Nick and thatā€™s why Jack says they would be grateful. He did what Sam wanted. Same for the other biblical killings. Heā€™s the cat sinking its fangs into rodents and birds. Leaving the punctured corpses on the doormat as a gift, I did this for you because I love you, donā€™t you love me too?
I havenā€™t eaten well in the past two days does this click click anyoneā€™s boom. Saliva

What does it actually mean that Jack killed Felix the snake?
a.k.a. Jack didn't kill Mary, pt. 2
I wanted to make a separate post from my other post about how I think Jack didn't kill Mary to talk more about the snake. In that post, I brought up Felix only briefly, as an explanation for Jack's state of being at the time: "soulless, trying to do the right thing in spite of that, very in-control of himself and his powers." But I have like a million thoughts on the snake, so.
In-universe, Jack was doing what he thought was right. His three dads, whom he looks to for cues on right vs. wrong, were implicitly if not explicitly telling him the snake's life didn't matter. They gave zero shits about that snake. "hmmmm try feeding him this variety of foods that are comically inappropriate and keep him in this tiny box, IDC man." Like, at any time, Google and veterinarians were options, but none of them could be arsed to tell Jack about those options. Like, yes, Jack is a grown man, but also he's only been on the planet for two years and he doesn't know everything!!!
So clearly (to Jack, based on the messages he is getting), the snake's life/health have no real value, and since the suffering is caused by how bad Felix misses his original owner, the best option is to send him where he won't suffer anymore. Like... I get it. This is not how I (a person with life experience and pet ownership experience as well as possession of a soul) would handle the situation. But for Jack, I get it!!!
When it gets absolutely maddening is when you think about the snake symbolically, and what Felix might possibly represent:
Satan in the Garden, his father Lucifer, temptation toward selfishness and lies and away from Paradise and truth
the poisonous death caused by being in the closet/ashamed of one's own queer desire (14x14 is one hell of an episode and boy do I need to make a separate post about Jack's relationship to Cas and Jack saving Cas from being poisoned to death by his repression of his queer desire and Cas dying because he stopped repressing it while Chuck is still running the show, then [we're told, we don't see it, I'm so suspicious] Jack saving him again once Jack is God. ANYWAYYYYYY.)
the snake eating a chicken egg fable a.k.a. the entire narrative concept that Jack is either the snake who cannot help its nature or the bait they must use to rid themselves of their enemy
So you have the snake standing in for at least one but likely all three things. And then you have to just be like, "Actually it's incredible that he killed the snake. He has rejected his birthright, he has rejected repression of self, and he has basically said that he is the secret third thing that is neither the snake nor the egg." It seems like we should actually celebrate this?
But we can only see the symbolism because we are outside of the story. Sam, Dean, and Cas are in the story, and what they see is a kid with no soul has just killed his pet, which as a storytelling device means he is going to escalate to worse things, and his three dads (who can't be arsed to find a vet) are right to be worried and take that a certain way.
But then you look at Jack's "escalation" and it's... accidentally hurting a girl who didn't trust his control over his powers, even though he had excellent control, actually, and then immediately healing her and being very upset that she's hurt. Hmmmm. We're then supposed to believe he randomly loses all control and kills someone he loves, for absolutely no reason, because in storytelling that's what happens after a character reveals they are soulless enough to kill a pet. And guess who the storyteller is??? (You don't have to guess. It's Chuck.) Chuck knows how the story goes, and he knows that a human death is what comes next in convincing them to see Jack as a threat, and he knows exactly who should die to ensure Dean does his job in the narrative (it sure isn't Nick! Whom Jack did kill and whom Dean would literally buy Jack a beer for killing in any other circumstances! Symbolically killing Lucifer as he was unable to do before!). It is wildly inconsistent with Jack's motivations and actions for him to fly off the handle and kill Mary, but that's the story Chuck needs to see, so he makes it happen.
So for the characters, who are stuck in Chuck's story, Jack is escalating his capacity for violence and killing loved ones. We, who are outside, can see the symbolic meaning and see that actually Jack is outside with us, rejecting the entire narrative. He literally killed Chuck's narrative! (But he didn't kill Mary.)
