One of my favourite factors of game day fashion is how it creates the perfect vacuum for a style case study. There are constants and constraints when dressing for a repeatable event like this. Factors that make it so you can create a storyline of outfits that unfold over a period of time that each uniquely stand on their own, but that also create an opportunity to have them “speak” to one another. 

A Blazer of Glory: Taylor in a blazer and thigh high boots is my version of winning the Super Bowl. If I were to pick a staple in my own closet - and an item I always get a thrill seeing Taylor wear - it’s a blazer. So I was delighted to see her in one (even briefly) that’s sharp, chic, and that sandwich styles with her OTK white boots. While I personally love it and am delighted we got some footage of her wearing this polished layer, I actually think this look says a lot more without it. Sans blazer, the combination of a white tank and denim shorts immediately brought to my mind the images of her very first Chiefs game ever. Back then - September 2023 - Taylor wore a soft white eyelet trim tank top by Doen paired with washed black denim shorts by Ksubi. This ensemble is like a reference to that. With some distinct elevated upgrades to illustrate how far we’ve come since then, of course. Like some fierce stiletto boots > sneakers and sparkly shorts > distressed shorts. 

I Like Shiny Things: In addition to letting her bejeweled, the shorts reference some of the most significant milestones in Taylor’s tenure as sportsball spectator. Combined with her white tank, the outfit resembles her very first game day ensemble from September 2023. Though her denim then, by Ksubi, was distressed over embellished. They also nod to her 2024 season opener jean shorts by Grlfrnd - thigh high boots included. Most importantly, they make a great year over year comparison to the crystal trim denim pants by Area worn to her first Super Bowl — last year’s LVIII. 

Re-e-e-d: For the minutest amount of red, Taylor accessorized her outfit with a ‘Nano’ bag by Givenchy. According to my archives via TSS, this is a first for her to carry the brand via a bag. As is typical for Taylor’s game day fashion, most of her jewelry was also rendered in stones coloured Chiefs red. The piece that most caught my eye was her hand chain and how it riffs on her recent love of unique chain jewelry, including a certain thigh chain that was repurposed into a necklace here.

Handcrafted with 14K Gold-fill parts, this devotional necklace to Aphrodite features a gorgeously iridescent white opal as the star of the show set in a gold-fill bezel containing four flowers in a ring to resemble the pure, creative, radiant, and nurturing soul of the wearer. The opal pendant is also accompanied by a variety of gemstones specifically chosen to embody the nourishing and supportive aspects of the goddess’s love, the sea that Aphrodite and the wearer have a deep connection with, and the romantic partner’s hopes for the wearer to live a life filled with unconditional love, grace, beauty, and strongly bonded friendships. The natural gemstones, alternating shades of pink and blue, include rose quartz, rainbow moonstone, peach moonstone, aquamarine, rhodochrosite, blue aventurine, and pink tourmaline. A second, shorter gold-fill chain adorns the neck with a set of five soft pink pearls to represent the wisdom the wearer will have during challenging transitionary times and the supportive, feminine, nourishing strength that their spirits and loved ones will provide that will be a beacon of light for their heart so they can move towards a more peaceful, soothing place. 🩵

This past Christmas, I was given the dreamy task of crafting a heartfelt custom jewelry piece for a dearly beloved friend by their significant other to be a reminder to “love herself even on the hard days.” 🥺 The inspiration for it came immediately. I knew I wanted to encapsulate the nurturing qualities of the sea for this piece’s theme, but when the creative process unfolded, I unexpectedly began to think of Aphrodite every step of the way as I weaved in my own love, hopes and well wishes for her into this necklace. What started as a symbolic reminder of love unintentionally evolved into a full-on devotional piece to Aphrodite by the end of its creation. 🥲🌸

To thank Aphrodite for her inspiration, and to formally ask her to imbue the piece with her blessings, I did a small ritual offering to her using specifically chosen herbs, oils, flowers, incense, ocean water, and a Stele of Aphrodite (a PGM offering created by @DragonCunning @BarnOwlKey from The Frightful Howls crew). As a side note, I must give credit to them and their other erudite member @Saltcandc for the wonderfully enlightening podcast episode, “Foam Born Aphrodite,” and the special wares they created with the goddess during their pilgrimage to her shores in Greece. These resources contributed greatly to my understanding of her and the offerings I could provide her, so thank you all for the amazing work you folks put out there! Creating this necklace with Aphrodite was the last push I needed to further cement my desire to start a more deliberate practice with her. I’m ever so grateful for the serendipity of finding this path. 💗

When my friend received her gift, she was “over the moon,” claiming it was her favorite necklace of all time and everything she needed. 😭 I had told her briefly that this necklace was inspired by the lovely goddess, Aphrodite, and that I had done a small ritual asking for her blessings, but was careful not to indulge in too many details to not sway her into working with her unless she felt truly called. However, I was thrilled to hear weeks later over lunch that she decided to pursue a relationship with Aphrodite on her own, mutually inspired by her love and the aspects she embodies to co-create a more beautiful life together! It was such an unexpected and frankly emotional experience hearing that from her and being so filled with platonic love for one another, we both shed a little tear over our Korean barbecue grill that day, haha.

life updates / ramble post ✨

first, idk if i've shown any close up pictures of my engagement ring on here?? but i'm so utterly obsessed with it. it has a 3 carat oval lab grown diamond, high set with tulip prongs, everything 14k yellow gold. i had it custom made and i love it so much, i find myself just staring at my hand all the time.

but ok i'm finding the whole wedding planning thing so damn overwhelming. idk where to start, i just wanna do something simple and small. but as i look things up and calculate stuff, it all just snowballs. there's so many little things to consider. weddings be expensive yall 🫠

anyway, life continues to be busy as hell right now. we leave for costa rica in 16 days. we're spending 3 days at a lodge in the cloud forest, 4 days at a lodge near arenal volcano, then the remaining 5 days at more of a relaxing resort in the rainforest. the first two places will be hike and tour heavy. i'm hoping to see lots of wildlife. i'm soooo excited

yesterday i got the updated covid vax as well as the flu shot. so today my arms are a bit sore, luckily i didn't get any other symptoms though.

my fiance has a work dinner in toronto on thursday so i'm looking forward to having the apartment to myself for an evening. i'm planning on ordering takeout and watching a movie lol. then on friday we have dinner reservations at a fancy place nearby and we're doing another tasting menu. i'm looking forward to that!
