Realme C3 Review
Chinese smartphone maker Realme had an eventful year in 2019. The company launched multiple smartphones every quarter forcing the competition to pick up the pace. Realme started 2020 with a budget smartphone called the Realme 5i, and hot on its tail, the company is bringing in yet another very affordable smartphone called the Realme C3. The C series is Realme’s entry-level lineup, and offers good hardware at affordable prices. In this highly competitive price segment, can the Realme C3 carve out a niche of its own? We put the new Realme C3 to the test to find out.
Realme C3 design
Realme has opted for a new look for 2020 that it calls the Sunrise design. We’ve seen it on the Realme 5i (Review), and it is now being used on the Realme C3 as well. The company offers the Realme C3 in two colour options: Frozen Blue and Blazing Red. We have the former for this review. The colour is definitely catchy, appearing to radiate outwards from the camera module, and the back has a texture that you can feel when you run your fingers over it.
Realme has equipped the C3 with a bigger display than its predecessor. It measures 6.5 inches diagonally and has a 20:9 aspect ratio. This aspect ratio makes the smartphone tall and slim, so it’s relatively comfortable to hold and use. The bezels are thin on the sides but the bottom chin is thicker. Like most other Realme smartphones in the market, this one also has a dewdrop notch which houses the selfie camera. Right above it is the earpiece, which is finished in black and blends in with the display.
The tiny dewdrop notch houses a 5-megapixel selfie shooter
The frame of the smartphone is made out of plastic. The power button is on the right while the volume buttons are on the left. We found these buttons to be well positioned, but they’re recessed into the frame a bit which can make them hard to find by feel. Once pressed, these do have solid feedback.
The SIM tray on the Realme C3 is just above the volume buttons on the left, and has individual slots for two Nano-SIMs as well as a microSD card. At the bottom, this phone has a Micro-USB port, 3.5mm audio jack, and a loudspeaker grille. Realme could have offered a USB Type-C port, as the competition has started offering this in the budget segment. The top of the device is completely blank.
From the back, this phone looks very similar to the Realme 5i. This model also has a protruding camera module at the back, which houses two camera sensors. Realme has added a metallic rim around this camera module to help keep the lenses from getting scratched. The Realme C3 packs a 5,000mAh battery which is excellent for a smartphone at this price, but it does bring the weight of the device up to 195g.
Realme C3 specifications and software
The Realme C2 (Review) used a Mediatek Helio P22 SoC, and while that was a good processor for the price, it was dated even at the time of that model’s launch. The Realme C3 sports the new MediaTek Helio G70 SoC, which is an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz. The C3 is offered in two variants – the base variant sports 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage while the higher one has 4GB RAM with 64GB of storage. Realme has priced these two options quite well, with the base variant coming in at Rs. 6,999 and the higher one priced at Rs. 7,999. You do have the option to expand storage using a microSD card.
The Realme C3 is a dual SIM smartphone with support for 4G as well as VoLTE. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi, five positioning systems, and the usual sensors. Just like the Realme C2, the C3 does not have a fingerprint scanner. We have seen a leak recently which suggested that a version of this phone called the Realme C3s could be launched sometime in the future, but we don’t know if or when it might come to India.
The Realme C3 runs Android 10 out of the box.
Software is where Realme has taken a new direction. The Realme C3 no longer runs ColorOS like its older siblings, instead, it runs RealmeUI V1.0 which is based onAndroid 10. This is the first smartphone from the company to ship with Android 10 out of the box. Our unit was running the December security patch, which is acceptable.
The new RealmeUI is very similar to ColorOS 7 and introduces a lot of changes compared to what ColorOS 6 offered. The overall UI is similar to stock Android and we like the layout. There is still some amount of bloatware, which includes Facebook, Helo, Dailyhunt, Gaana, Opera News, UC Browser, and a few Realme apps. The smartphone also has an App Market store which is an alternative to the Google Play Store.
Swiping right from the home screen does not take you to the smart assistant anymore, but there is no Google Assistant screen here either. Universal search is still available, and one simply has to swipe down on the home screen to access it.
Realme also offers Dark Mode, and it is no longer an experimental feature like it was on the Realme 5i. There is Focus Mode as well, which can be enabled from the notification shade. Enabling Focus Mode stops notifications from distracting you for a fixed duration, and lets you play relaxing sounds to help focus better. We found it to be helpful to some extent, but the number of relaxing sounds is limited and we found a few of them to be distracting.
Just like other Realme smartphones, this one also features Game Space, which helps you block calls and notifications while gaming. Realme is also advertising a Personal Information Protection feature that spoofs blank or dummy information when apps request access to your call history, contacts, and messages.
Realme C3 performance and battery life
We were expecting average performance from the Realme C3 considering that it is a budget smartphone. However, the device does pack a punch, delivering good performance. We did not notice any lag while scrolling through the menus and while multitasking. Our review unit had 4GB of RAM and it could multitask fairly easily without needing to kill apps in the background.
We set up face recognition on the device and found it quick to unlock the smartphone in different lighting conditions. The display gets bright enough when outdoors but the viewing angles could have been slightly better.
To test this new processor, we ran our usual set of benchmarks on the device. Surprisingly the Realme C3 managed to score 192,187 in AnTuTu which is higher than the scores of the much more expensive Samsung Galaxy A51 (Review) and Oppo F15 (Review) which we recently tested. In Geekbench 5’s single-core and multi-core tests, the phone scored 354 and 1,260 respectively. To get an idea of graphics performance, we ran the GFXBench T-Rex and Car Chase benchmarks, and rhey ran at 51fps and 14fps respectively.
The Realme C3 still sports a Micro-USB port
We played PUBG Mobile on the Realme C3 and it defaulted to the High preset with graphics set to HD and frame rate set to High. We did notice occasional stutter at these settings and the game worked better when we turned them down. The Realme C3 did get slightly warm to the touch after playing for 15 minutes at the High settings.
This phone packs in a big 5,000mAh battery which delivered excellent battery life. It lasted us for close to two full days on a single charge with our usage which consisted of playing a few games, using an active WhatsApp account, and running Google Chrome to browse the Web. In our HD video loop test, the smartphone lasted for an incredible 28 hours and 20 minutes, which is among the longest we have yet seen from any smartphone in this test. While the big battery is a boon, Realme should have offered fast charging abilities on this phone. The 10W charger that you get in the box takes over two hours to charge the smartphone completely.
Realme C3 cameras
The Realme C3 sports a dual-camera setup at the back consisting of a 12-megapixel primary shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. At the front, it has a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The camera app is unchanged compared to previous Realme phones, and has Portrait, Time-lapse, Slo-mo, Expert, and Pano modes in addition to the photo and video modes. It also has quick toggles for HDR and Chroma Boost as seen on older Realme devices.

Realme C3 close-up photo sample (tap to see full-size sample)
When taking pictures in daylight, the Realme C3 was quick to lock focus and did a fair job of metering light. Photos looked good on the phone’s screen, but we noticed a lack of detail after zooming in. However, quality is better than what some of the other smartphones at this price point can produce. For close-ups, we noticed that the Realme C3 struggled to lock focus when too close to a subject. There were also occasional focus hunting issues. Once focused, the Realme C3 does deliver a decent shot.
Realme C3 portrait photo sample (tap to see full-size sample)
The Portrait mode puts the secondary depth camera to use and the smartphone gives you the option to set the level of blur before taking a shot. The Realme C3 managed good edge detection but we found the output to be flat.
Realme C3 low-light photo sample (tap to see full-size sample)
In low light, the Realme C3 produced average photos. These lacked detail and weren’t very sharp. Realme’s official website initially listed a Super Nightscape mode but we didn’t find it in the camera app. When we enquired about this, a Realme representative confirmed to Gadgets 360 that it was a mistake and that this model does not support any such feature. The website has since been corrected.
Realme C3 selfie sample (tap to see full-size sample)
Selfies taken outdoors in daylight had a slightly inaccurate colour tone. They also weren’t sharp, and lacked detail. Video recording maxes out at 1080p for both the primary as well as the selfie shooter. There is no video stabilisation, resulting in shaky footage. In low light, the Realme C3 metered light well for a phone at this price.
Verdict
The Realme C3 is a solid update to the Realme C2, and it further strengthens the company’s budget series. Realme has picked a powerful SoC that steamrolls the competition when it comes to performance. Battery life is excellent as expected, and Realme smartphones have been consistently acing our battery tests. Of course, camera performance isn’t the best, but it is acceptable for the price.
Starting at just Rs. 6,999 for the base variant, and at Rs. 7,999 for the variant we reviewed, the Realme C3 is an easy smartphone to recommend. Realme could have offered a fingerprint scanner like most of its competition, and we would like to see USB Type-C become standard.

Nokia 8.1 review price in india pros cons 2018 December
MD world mainly launched more telephones than another company this year The manufacturer started the year off with the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia eight Sirocco as two of its most top class choices For the rest of the 12 months it sprinkled a number of more Nokia telephones ranging from entrydegree to low cost phones underneath Rs 20000 But the top class phase has now not visible plenty of movements which is why the manufacturer determined to finish the year with the Nokia eight1Launched in India on Monday the Nokia 81 might not be the flagship pentalens Nokia9 mobile we were hoping to see however its as practically a flagship mobilephone as it gets and maybe the exceptional HMD cell to end the 12 months with The Nokia eight1 is a direct successor to the Nokia 7 Plus and it matches the bill fairly well At Rs 26999 HMD has managed to maintain it just about its predecessor and much more low priced than the other SD710 chipset the Oppo R17 The Nokia 81 has all of the makings of triumphant smartphone So is the Nokia eight1 the new top rate cell for the massesDesignHMD has launched some outstanding smartphones this 12 months that each one exhude variety and class The Nokia 81 is not any one of a kind It largely falls on a components HMD has tried and perfected this 12 months Like the Nokia 61 Plus 51 Plus and 71 the Nokia 81 comes with a tumbler and metallic design and a notched show The front and back of the Nokia eight1 will get a 25D Gorilla Glass safety The glass subtly curves on the edges and seamlessly blends into the aluminium bodyThe frame itself is an effective sequence 6000 aluminium with diamond cut chiseled edges very similar to what weve visible on the Nokia 7 Plus The flat body offers the Nokia eight1 a boxy think but now not rather as so much because the Nokia 71 The mobile comes with a twintone design in that HMD has added steel accents around the midbody masking the bodily buttons rear digicam module and fingerprint sensor That is once again similar to the Nokia 7 Plus and it offers the Nokia 81 a very quintessential Nokia believeThe Nokia 81 appears lovely and elegant anything we now have said earlier than for lots of Nokia telephones this year HMD must accept credit score for providing a classy design at the same time nonetheless having a foot firmly placed in the gift It is available in three dualtone colors BlueSilver and Ironsteel The unit I bought was once in Ironsteel and it is in general certainly one of my favourite colours for a smartphone It has a winelike rustic color around the frame and the back that looks subtle and detailedThe phone itself is wider than the Nokia 61 Plus and 71 so accomplishing one finish of the display with one hand will likely be complex The vigour and volume buttons positioned on the correct facet are good inside reach and have a great clicky suppose The fingerprint sensor on the back is also good positioned The rear digital camera has protrudes fairly a little bit so the cellphone will wobble when saved on a flat surface The aluminium body makes gives the mobilephone a fantastic build but the glass back does make it fragile nevertheless At one hundred eighty grams it is a bit on the heavier aspect of thingsDisplayLike I mentioned prior the Nokia eight1 follows a formulation that HMD has employed this 12 months which includes allglass physique and an edgetofacet notched show So on the entrance the Nokia 81 looks just like the Nokia 51 Plus It will get a broad notch on the highest and a chin on the bottom that maintaining the Nokia branding The rest of the entrance is all show You get a 618inch show with a FHD 2246x1080 decision 1879 part ratio and as much as 500 nits of brightnessThe Nokia eight1 is the second telephone after the Nokia 71 to get a PureDisplay display It is a science that HMD has presented this yr that goals to present a greater distinction 11500 and a sharper show along with HDR10 help So not only does the show offer quite a few vibrancy it additionally manner which you can circulate HDR content on supported platforms like Netflix top Video and YouTube All of this is to say yoursquoll discover sharper pictures with better color reproductionThe display looks great indoors even though outside visibility is questionable In height daylight the display might not be as vivid as one would hope But viewing angles are just right The panel itself is a bit warm so snap shots captured may exhibit colors a bit more saturated than they truly are Irsquove located the Nokia 71 to present a better white steadiness than the 81Efficiency and softwareI was once rather interested to look how the brand new Snapdragon 710 chipset carried out in realworld usage The Nokia eight1 and the new Oppo R17 professional are the one SD710powered phones available in India right now Were yet to study the Oppo mobilephone however whether it is something like the Nokia 81 then it should provoke you Since the Nokia eight1 performs splendidly The SD710 is an octacore chipset centered on a 10nm process and has a height clock pace of two2GHz This is coupled with 4GB of RAM and there s additionally a 6GB RAM variant the HMD will free up soonWhile the Nokia eight1 breezes by means of every day tasks like messaging social media browsing and loading apps itrsquos the gaming performance thats particularly spectacular The chipset comes with an Adreno 616 GPU which is relatively remarkale A photograph intensive game like PUBG will run on excessive snap shots by means of default In evaluation the Snapdragon 660 handiest runs on Medium images settings so this is welcome bump Playing PUBG was once a smooth lagfree expertise without a seen drop in frame expense The chipset additionally kept the warmness under manipulate for the period of a 30 minute sessionThe Nokia eight1 is the first Nokia cell to run Android 9 Pie out of the box Infrequently shocking when you consider that how good HMD has performed in offering uptodate Android application for its telephones Four Nokia phones have already been updated to Pie and the Nokia 81 makes it five What you get is a stock pure variant of Pie and all of Piersquos neat aspects including Adaptive Battery Adaptive Brightness and gesture navigation That you may also down load Digital wellness and see it within the Settings menuAdaptive Battery limits the amount of battery being drained by way of inactive apps which it finds out using computing device finding out of your utilization habits Itrsquos rough to say exactly how well it improves the battery life of the device but I suppose itrsquos some of the reasons at the back of the Nokia eight1rsquos two0day battery lifestyles Adaptive Brightness uses AI and some manual adjusting of the brightness to realize how bright or stupid you choose the display to be in more than a few environments The new navigation gesture is whatever ive now not gotten used to A swipe up from the tablet shaped button now brings up multitasking instead than the app drawer and y muscle reminiscence cannot regulate to that Youve the option of utilizing the historical ondisplay navigation buttons which is what I did for the lots of the evaluate periodCameraYou be aware of yoursquore dealing with a top rate Nokia telephone when it presents Zeiss optics Just like the Nokia 7 Plus the Nokia 81 additionally offers Zeisspowered cameras On the back you get a 12MP main sensor with 14 micron pixel f18 aperture OIS support and a pair of PD The secondary camera offers a 13MP constantfocus sensor On the front the Nokia 81 will get a 20MP selfie digital camera which is a lovely large jump over the Nokia 7 Plus The camera interface is smooth intuitive and effortless to get a handle onHMD has mainly furnished cameras that work good in daylight The Nokia 81 presents some crisp distinct photographs in goodlit conditions Not only do pix present excellent publicity but colour reproduction is exceptional as good Some colors could seem over saturated now and then which is largely considering of the PureDisplay screen The camera offers excellent dynamic variety and it even handles backlit conditions decentlyThe enterprise has now not been capable to crack lowmild pictures with past Nokia phones but there seems to be some enhancements with the Nokia eight1 The f18 aperture does let in some mild and images taken after sunset will appear first rate however don t assume quite a few element or sharpness That is when you fairly will have to use the pro Mode characteristic considering the fact that it helps a highquality deal HMD presents one of the crucial nice pro modes in a smartphone because it means that you can play with the ISO White steadiness focal point and Shutter pace And it really works for each the rear and entrance camerasFor those who crank up the ISO and slow down the shutter speed you will have to get better lowlight pictures furnished you preserve the Nokia 81 on a tripod or something steady The shutter pace in day time is lovely quick supplying sharper snap shots and the cameras are speedy to autofocus as good The 20MP selfie digital camera can offer a variety of element but i have discovered it to oversharpen facial aspects as well So whilst yoursquoll be able to look your hair with a number of detail your skin will seem aggressively sharpened via software The front digital camera offers good portrait pictures in daytime with a good quantity of separation between the discipline and historical pastBatteryThe Nokia eight1 houses a 3500mAh battery which is higher than the Nokia 61 Plus and seven1 however smaller than the Nokia 7 Plus which furnished a 3800mAh potential Despite the smaller size I consider the Nokia eight1 offers the equal twoday battery life because the Nokia 7 Plus There are a number of explanations that make this feasible To begin with the Snapdragon 710 chipset is significantly more vigour effective than the 660 On top of that the cell runs a stock lightweight Android Pie which presents an Adaptive Battery function that limits heritage apps from utilising up an excessive amount of batteryAll of this helps the phone reside far more than expected The mobile will comfortably take you over a day on above average usage A 30 minute recreation of PUBG on high portraits consumed most effective round 8 per cent battery which is spectacular Standby time is spectacular as well draining only 5 per cent in a single day The mobile helps quick charging via an 18W fast charger bundled with the box It takes beneath two hours to cost from zero to one hundred per centWill have to you purchase the Nokia 81The Nokia 81 is a pleasant substitute to the Nokia 7 Plus It looks and looks like a successor thanks to a extra top rate allglass design together with a Snapdragon 710 chipset Theres a seen boost in performance and the whole lot feels somewhat more fluid and and soft With Android Pie outofthebox the Nokia eight1 also feels extra present and updated with a satisfaction that itll obtain Android Q and R in the futureThe Nokia eight1 may bother purchasers who consider that competitors just like the F1 offers a flagshiplevel chipset for a lot lessen However the SD710 chipset handles actualworld efficiency as delicate as a flagship telephone and you get the added benefit of a better design language as good The Zeiss optics marginally improves lowgentle digital camera efficiency however the cameras are generally impressive To prime it off HMD has priced the Nokia 81 at an enormously competitive rate of Rs 26999

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, the next smartphone by the Chinese giant that is yet to receive an official confirmation, has been made available for purchase. An AliExpress retailer has started selling the "Global Redmi Note 6 Pro" in four colour options, namely Black, Blue, Rose Gold, and Red. The online listing of the smartphone also highlights its metal build and display notch. Similarly, the key specifications of the Redmi Note 6 Pro have been featured on the online marketplace. The new development emerges just after the retail box and a closer look of the Redmi Note 6 Pro leaked on Reddit. The new smartphone will be the successor to the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Redmi Note 6 Pro price, specifications
The Global Redmi Note 6 Pro variant on AliExpress is available with a price tag between $193.99 and $218.99 (roughly Rs. 14,100 and Rs. 15,900). The retailer is even shipping the handset to major markets, including the US and UK, but not India. It is worth noting here that the estimated delivery time is 60 days.
Apart from revealing the basic details, the online listing of the Global Redmi Note 6 Pro reveals its key specifications. It shows that the dual-SIM (Nano) runs MIUI 9 on top of Android and features a 6.28-inch full-HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) display. The listing also shows that the handset has a 19:9 aspect ratio. However, for the given resolution, it should have an 18:9 aspect ratio. There is also a mentioning about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. However, it is worth noting here that a previous report claimed that the Redmi Note 6 Pro will come with a Snapdragon 636 SoC and have a superior variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
The listing also shows that there is a dual rear camera setup at the back along with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor, along with an LED flash module. On the front, it is mentioned that the smartphone has a combination of 20-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors. Additionally, the online listing shows the presence of 4G LTE, Micro-USB, and a rear-facing fingerprint sensor on the Redmi Note 6 Pro. The smartphone packs a 4,000mAh battery and measures 157.9x76.38x8.2mm.

Dell XPS 13 9370 Review
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Dell’s XPS laptop series has always been about premium build quality and performance. The ultra-portable XPS 13 (Review) has long been one of the best premium Ultrabooks you can get for your money. However, the company hasn’t always been prompt in launching each new refresh in India. Take for example the 2017 Dell XPS 15, which debuted at CES in January that year but only made it to our shores last October – and let’s not forget the XPS 13 2-in-1, which didn’t arrive at all.
This year, Dell seems to be more proactive with its India go-to-market strategy, and barely a month after the company announced the 2018 edition of the XPS 13, it’s already available here for purchase. Today, we’ll be testing the top-end variant of the new XPS 13 9370 series, which boasts of a slimmer body, 4K UHD InfinityEdge touchscreen, and upgraded specs. Let’s see what it’s like.
youtube
Dell XPS 13 design and build quality
The new laptop is deceptively small, and even the box it ships in feels like it’s too small for a laptop to fit inside. Taking a closer look at its actual dimensions, the new XPS 13 9370 is only marginally reduced in width and depth compared to the previous-gen XPS 13 9360, but Dell has shaved the thickness quite a bit, so it measures 11.6mm at its thickest point and just 7.8mm at the thinnest. We also found it to be very light, and it won’t weigh your bag or backpack down when travelling.
Despite the size and weight, this laptop doesn’t skimp on premium materials. The chassis is built from machined aluminium, and has a soft matte texture so it’s relatively easy to keep clean even if you don’t use a sleeve. We have the white and rose gold version, which according to Dell, is the only colour trim this particular spec will be available in for now. We’re used to seeing XPS laptops in silver with a carbon fibre finish, but for this new colour combination, Dell has used a special woven glass fibre mterial on the palmrest area instead. It feels quite similar to the carbon fibre finish, and according to the company, it also has a stain-resistant UV coating to prevent it from yellowing over time.
The keyboard is pretty comfortable. The chiclet keys are evenly backlit with white LEDs and have a good 1.3mm of travel, which makes them comfortable to type on. The arrow keys do feel a bit cramped but that’s something you might get used to with time. The trackpad is wide and offers smooth scrolling and gestures in Windows 10. The power button is placed in the upper right corner and has an integrated fingerprint sensor. Dell has also placed infrared sensors beside the webcam for face recognition. Both these methods can be used for logging into Windows 10 instead of typing in a password.
There’s an array of four microphones facing forwards, along with a power LED. Due to the reduced thickness of the laptop, Dell has removed standard-sized Type-A USB ports, which is a shame. Instead of this, you get three USB Type-C ports and a single Type-C to Type-A adapter in the box. The two Type-C ports on the left are actually Thunderbolt 3 ports, while the one on the right has a USB 3.1 Gen. 2 controller. You can charge the laptop through any of these ports and even plug in an external monitor using an adaptor. You get a 1W speaker on each side of the laptop; a Noble lock slot for securing it; a microSD card slot; and a headphone/ microphone combo socket. We definitely missed having a full-sized SD card reader.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the 13.3-inch InfinityEdge display, which now sports thinner 4mm borders on three sides. There’s still a thick chin below the screen for the Dell logo and camera. The display puts out 400nits of brightness, which we found comfortable under most lighting conditions. It does have a glossy finish but reflections aren’t much of an issue thanks to the high brightness. The 4K UHD panel that we have is also a touchscreen but since this isn’t a 2-in-1, we barely ever wound up using it. The aluminium lid offers very good protection and the screen doesn’t warp even when you apply pressure from the outside. The hinge offers good torsion and stays in place at any angle.
Dell XPS 13 9370 specifications and features
At the time of writing this review, this particular variant isn’t available on Dell’s online store but we’re told that it will be added soon. The specifications include an Intel Core i7-8550U CPU, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 512GB NVMe SSD. There’s no dedicated graphics processor here so you’ll have to make do with the onboard UHD Graphics 620 from Intel. The individual RAM modules aren’t identified by diagnostic software, which shows that they are soldered onto the motherboard and are therefore not upgradeable. Other specifications include dual-band Wi-Fi ac with 2×2 MIMO antennas and Bluetooth by Killer Networks; an HD webcam; and a non-removable 52WHr battery.
Shop On SecondCovers
The laptop ships with Windows 10 Home 64-bit along with a full copy Microsoft Office Home and Student 2016, and a 12 month subscription to McAfee LiveSafe. Dell also installs its own software including Power Manager, which lets you monitor your battery’s health and set up profiles. There’s a new app for 2018 models called Dell Mobile Connect, which lets you receive calls and texts from your Android or iOS device through Bluetooth, directly on your laptop. It even lets you make calls or reply to messages from within the app itself. It works well, though you can only connect one phone to the app at a time. With an Android phone, you can also mirror its screen on the laptop.
Dell XPS 13 performance and battery life
We found the new XPS 13 comfortable to use on our lap, and with light tasks, the exhaust fans weren’t audible. There are vents on the bottom and behind the hinge for air circulation. In order to tame the heat from the components, Dell has used a Gore Insulation Solution, which makes it the first laptop to use this material. Gore (or Gore-Tex), a flexible material that’s typically used in winter jackets, is intended to prevent the outer body from getting too warm to touch while dual fans and heatpipes push hot air out. In practice, this works well if you’re not doing anything too CPU-intensive. However, fire up a game and the fans ramp up quickly, making them very audible. The metal bottom of the laptop gets hot after a while, and we found that the upper left of the keyboard also got slightly warm, though the palm rest stayed cool.
The XPS 13 can manage some 3D games, but at low visual settings and resolutions. The onboard Intel GPU is simply not equipped to handle heavy gaming. For instance, in Doom, we managed to get a playable framerate of 29fps but only at 1366×768 resolution using the Low graphics preset. The game doesn’t look very good, and there’s obviously a lot of visible aliasing, but it’s playable. However, the CPU is a good performer as we saw in benchmarks such as PCMark 8, which gave us scores of 3,319, 4,674 and 2,931 points in the Home, Creative, and Work test suites respectively.
The SSD delivered a good overall score of 2.3GB/s in SiSoft Sandra’s Physical Disk benchmark, and its speed shows in general usage too. The laptop boots quickly and apps load swiftly as well. 512GB is a decently large amount of storage for an Ultrabook. The HD webcam has a good field of view but the video footage is slightly noisy when it is used under artificial lighting. There’s also no getting around the slightly odd perspective it offers due to its placement below the screen. Face recognition is quick although at times, when we had the XPS 13 on our lap, we had to either tilt it backwards or lift it a bit in order for the camera to see our face.
The 4K resolution at this screen size gives you a dense pixel count of around 331ppi, which makes everything look really crisp. Viewing angles are very good and there’s good colour saturation as well. This panel also happens to support HDR, which makes the XPS 13 one of the few such laptops currently available. As long as you have it plugged in to a power source, compatible apps like Netflix automatically detect the screen as HDR-capable. The brightness has to be bumped up all the way to 100 percent for it to be effective. The result is nice, especially in shows like Stranger Things and Narcos, which both looked really good. The stereo speakers do a good job with audio as well, and the Waves MaxxAudio Pro software lets you tweak how sound is delivered. We noticed an audio skipping issue when streaming to Bluetooth headphones (Apple AirPods as well as the Sony WH-1000XM2), and hopefully this can be fixed with a future software update.
We were quite happy with the battery life of the new Dell XPS 13. Because of its 4K panel, we managed to squeeze out roughly 6-7 hours of ordinary use, which mostly involved working on Word documents and lots of Internet browsing. The laptop fared well in our intense Battery Eater Pro test too, which lasted for 2 hours and 23 minutes.
Verdict The XPS 13 9370 is a good iterative update of Dell’s flagship ultraportable, with the top-end variant sporting an eye-catching 4K display with HDR support. However, this comes at a high price of Rs. 1,59,790, which is about Rs. 10,000 more than Lenovo’s Yoga 920 Vibes Edition which shares the same core specifications and 4K display, though minus HDR.
Dell says that it will continue selling the existing XPS 13 9360 range, and most variants were updated with 8th Gen Intel Core CPUs late last year, so you have quite a few configurations to choose from. With the new XPS 13 9370 series, you get a slightly more compact design and slimmer borders for the display, plus the same speedy performance and premium build quality. If we could change some things, we would have preferred a full-sized SD card slot, which would definitely be useful, and perhaps a few more Type-C adapters included in the box.
Price (M.R.P): Rs. 1,59,790

Cons

LG G8X ThinQ Review
Flagship smartphones from LG don’t often stay in the limelight long after their launches, as many of their competitors do. OnePlus and Samsung, on the other hand, have much more significant portions of the audience’s mindshare. The South Korean company is now trying to make a mark with its own take on a foldable smartphone, with the LG G8X ThinQ. This new device can work like an ordinary smartphone, but also lets you double your screen space with an add-on display case that is bundled in the box. The G8X ThinQ is priced at Rs. 49,999 in India, including the display case, and this is the first time such a product had made it to our market. Is it useful or just a gimmick? We’ve tested it to find out.
LG G8X ThinQ design
The LG G8X ThinQ follows the same design language as its predecessors. This smartphone has a glass sandwich design with a metal frame between the display and the rear glass panel. This smartphone is tall and a little chubby. At the front, it has a 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display with a tiny waterdrop notch at the top. It has thin bezels on the sides but the bottom is comparatively thicker.
LG has positioned the power button on the right of the device, and it is convenient to reach. On the left side, you’ll find the volume buttons as well as a dedicated button for Google Assistant. If you use Google Assistant very frequently you will find this very handy. We looked around in the Settings app but couldn’t find a way to remap the button.
The G8X ThinQ sports a 6.4-inch OLED display
The LG G8X ThinQ sport a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom along with the primary microphone, the loudspeaker, and a USB Type-C port. At the top, there’s only the SIM tray. The LG G8X ThinQ is among the few smartphones to have flush-mounted rear cameras. In a time when most devices have protruding camera modules, LG has managed to give this phone a clean look. The back is made out of glass but is curved at the sides, which makes it comfortable to hold. However, the smartphone picks up smudges easily and is super slippery. We even noticed it sliding about when placed on a slanting surface.
LG ships this smartphone only in Aurora Black. Along with the Dual Screen accessory case, you get earphones and a 16W charger bundled in the box. LG has also included a magnetic connector which can be used to charge the smartphone while using the Dual Screen case.
LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen Case
LG has smartly bundled the dual-screen accessory with the G8X ThinQ. This case itself has two displays. The first is a tiny monochrome one on the outside which lights up for notifications or when you raise the device. It displays the battery level, time, and date along with the icons of apps that have pending notifications. The front display is hard to see when the phone isn’t in use, as LG has opted for a mirror finish for the front of the case. This also picks up smudges quite easily. The shiny front panel is slightly off-centre to account for the hinge of the case.
Open the case up and you will see the second display on the inside. This is also a 6.4-inch OLED display with a waterdrop notch, to match the phone’s screen. This notch is pointless here as it does not house anything, and it looks like LG has used the exact same panel as the phone’s display. The case does not open flat; it’s more like having a step between the two displays so they aren’t at the same level at any point. You can flip the case lid around completely, and this simply switches off the secondary display.
All the displays on the case run off the LG G8X ThinQ’s battery
The case has a male USB Type-C connector which plugs into the LG G8X ThinQ. Once connected, both the displays on the case are powered by the smartphone’s battery. If you are planning on using the case at all times, you can expect battery life to take a hit. If the smartphone’s battery level dips below 15 percent, the secondary display will turn itself off. The case also has magnets and pogo-pin contacts at the bottom so you can charge it using the included adapter, eliminating the need to pull it out of the case every single time.
LG G8X ThinQ specifications and software
The LG G8X ThinQ is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, and has 6GB of RAM along with 128GB of storage. LG has added a heat pipe to help cool the processor when it’s under load. There is only one configuration on offer. We would have preferred to see the newer Snapdragon 855+ SoC, but the Snapdragon 855 is acceptable considering the overall features and capabilities of this smartphone.
The 6.4-inch OLED display has good viewing angles and gets bright enough when viewing content outdoors. The G8X ThinQ also sports an in-display fingerprint scanner. There is support for dual 4G as well as VoLTE, plus Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, NFC, GPS, and the usual basic sensors. LG has packed in a 4,000mAh battery and there is support for fast charging via the USB Type-C port.
The hybrid dual-SIM tray will force you to choose between a second SIM and expandable storage
LG ships the G8X ThinQ running LG UX 9.0 on top of Android 9 Pie, and we would have liked to have seen Android 10. LG has said that it plans to upgrade this smartphone to the latest version of Android, along with a few other models. The number of bloatware apps is under control, and those on the phone include Facebook, Instagram, and Booking.com. There are also some of LG’s own apps such as ThinQ, LG Health, and LG SmartWorld.
The UI lacks an app drawer but is simple to use. The Settings app is well laid out and we found the search function to be quite handy. Just like other LG flagship smartphones, the LG G8X ThinQ has a Hi-Fi Quad DAC feature, and supports DTS:X 3D Surround sound. It also has stereo speakers, where the earpiece doubles up as the second speaker. We enjoyed watching content on the LG G8X as the audio output was impressive.
LG G8X ThinQ performance and battery life
The LG G8X delivers top-notch performance thanks to the hardware it sports. We did not encounter any lag or stutter while using the smartphone. With 6GB of RAM, the device was super smooth when multitasking and loading apps. Even with the secondary display switched on and running a completely different app, the device could handle the load quite well. We would not recommend running two heavy apps simultaneously though, as this causes the smartphone to warm up. We also found the in-display fingerprint scanner to be slow and inconsistent.
The second screen was helpful for multitasking. We could run two different apps actively on the LG G8s ThinQ. The phone also allows you to swap apps between the two displays very easily using a three-finger gesture. Apps that support dual-screen mode, let you use them across both the screens at the same time, The preinstalled Whale Browser as well as Google Chrome, for instance, let you spread a Web page across both displays. While this usually works well, the fat hinge in between the two panels means that you don’t get an uninterrupted view like you would with a device like the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
The G8X ThinQ is powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC
Like many other smartphones out there, the LG G8X comes with a game mode, but this one also takes full advantage of the second display. You can use one of the two screens as a gamepad while a game is displayed on the other. We tried this with Asphalt 9 Legends, Sniper Fury, and a few other games, and felt that it made them more engaging. The Game mode also lets you select between different types of gamepads as well, so you can select a layout that is appropriate for the genre of game you are playing.
We did not notice any lag or stutter when playing these games. Playing Sniper Fury with the dual-screen accessory did cause the phone to get warm to the touch. We also ran a couple of benchmarks to gauge performance of the G8X ThinQ. It managed to score 3,83,512 in AnTuTu and 9,486 in PCMark Work 2.0. The smartphone also achieved scores of 723 and 2,388 in the Geekbench 5 single-core and multi-core tests respectively. In GFXBench Car Chase, the phone managed 37fps.
The LG G8X ThinQ sports a 4,000mAh battery which lasted us about a day and a half with ordinary usage. With the dual-screen accessory, we did notice the battery life taking a hit. In our HD video loop test, the smartphone went on for 19 hours and 53 minutes, which is quite good. When using the supplied charger, the battery level went from zero to 34 percent in half an hour and to 67 percent in an hour. LG chould have bundled a more powerful charger in the box, as the competition offers faster charging.
LG G8X ThinQ cameras
While many flagship and mid-range smartphones these days boast of four or five rear cameras, the LG G8X ThinQ sticks with a dual camera setup. The primary one on the LG G8X ThinQ has a 12-megapixel sensor and an f/1.8 aperture. The secondary camera is a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera with a 136-degree field of view and an f/2.4 aperture. The camera app has multiple modes to choose from, and you also get manual mode for both photos as well as video. It also has a toggle to enable the dual-screen accessory to act as a viewfinder. This simply mirrors the output of the primary screen, allowing you to fold the device and take shots at awkward angles comfortably.

We found the LG G8X ThinQ to be quick to focus, and it metered scenes correctly. The AI is also quick to recognise scenes, and the camera enabled HDR automatically when required. The LG G8X ThinQ delivers excellent photos in daylight with good detail even after zooming in. Shots taken against a bright background with HDR enabled turned out quite well. The wide-angle camera is also capable of capturing photos in HDR. These shots had lower detail than those taken with the primary sensor, and they were also slightly warped at the edges.
Portrait sample (Tap for full-sized image)
The Portrait mode lets you select the level of blur required before taking the shot. Portraits had very good edge detection, and the phone could blur out the background properly. Light is metered to expose the subject’s face clearly, so you might have to deal with washed out backgrounds in unfavourable light.
Close-up sample (tap to see full-sized image)
For close-up shots, the LG G8X ThinQ was quick to identify what it was pointed towards. These shots had a natural depth effect and had good details on zooming in.
Low-light shot (above) and Night mode shot (below) (tap for full-sized images)
In a dimly-lit environment the AI switches the camera to low-light mode automatically. This helps it pull in more light, resulting in a bright image. You can also switch the camera to Night mode which keeps the shutter open for longer. The LG G8X ThinQ lets you select ambient light conditions using a slider, and adjusts its settings accordingly. We found this to be useful when taking photos at dusk. Low-light camera performance was quite good, and we were happy with the level of detail this smartphone managed.
Selfie sample (Tap for full-sized image)
The 32-megapixel selfie camera delivers good details. You can use portrait mode with this camera and blur the background before taking a shot. We found edge detection to be quite good even with two people in the frame. Video recording maxes out at 4K 60fps for the primary camera and 4K 30fps for the selfie shooter. While the primary rear camera has optical image stabilisation, it only uses electronic stabilisation when recording video. We noticed that 1080p footage was very well stabilised. The phone also has a Super Steady mode which uses the wide-angle camera and crops the frame for steady footage. In low light, the camera managed to deliver bright output with minimal shimmer.
Verdict
The G8X ThinQ is LG’s unique way of joining the foldable smartphone bandwagon. While this isn’t anywhere near the same as the Samsung Galaxy Fold, LG has managed to deliver something close in a cost-effective manner. Since LG bundles the dual-screen accessory with the G8X ThinQ, users get to experience a dual-screen device out of the box at no additional cost. The magnetic connector to charge the phone through the case is also a thoughtful addition.
For Rs. 49,999, LG offers a good package for someone wanting to experience a foldable smartphone without breaking the bank. It also packs in very good camera hardware that you can take full advantage of using the Manual mode. However, these are the only things that help this smartphone stand out against its competitors. If you don’t really care about the second screen, you could consider the OnePlus 7T (Review) which costs much less, or the Samsung Galaxy S10 (Review) as a suitable alternative.

HTC U11+ Review

HTC U11+ Review
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
The HTC U11 (Review) was last year’s flagship from the Taiwanese company. At the time of its launch, it had the Samsung Galaxy S8 (Review) and the OnePlus 5 (Review) as its main competition. While the futuristic-looking Samsung flagships already had taller displays, others hadn’t caught up yet, but that has steadily been changing over the past year.
To keep up with the industry trends, OnePlus launched the OnePlus 5T (Review) and HTC has now come out with the HTC U11+. While this new model was available internationally late last year, HTC has only launched it in India now. It goes up against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8+ (Review), LG V30+ (Review), and the Google Pixel 2 XL (Review), as well as new models that many companies will be releasing very soon. The HTC U11+ has some flagship-level hardware under its shiny mirror-finished exterior and has a potent camera as well, but little else has changed compared to the U11. We put it to the test.
HTC U11+ design
The HTC U11+ definitely sticks to HTC’s design language and looks like it fits within the current lineup. It has the same mirror-finish glossy body, first seen on the HTC U Ultra (Review), which really sets it apart from today’s other flagships and gives it something unique to boast about. HTC calls it “Liquid Surface” and it’s made primarily out of glass that’s been polished to give it a high gloss. While it is stunning to look at, it does make the phone quite slippery and also picks up fingerprints easily, so you will need to wipe it often to retain the shine. HTC provides a transparent case in the box which you can pop on to keep the phone safe.
True to its name, the smartphone has gotten bigger compared to the U11 and now sports a 6-inch display. The front is pretty much dominated by the display with thin borders on the sides and slightly bigger ones at the top and the bottom. This makes the phone narrow and tall, and it’s harder to reach all corners. HTC has moved the fingerprint scanner to the back, just below the camera module. The position is convenient and it is easy to unlock the phone with a finger.
There’s a recessed earpiece at the top along with a selfie camera and an array of sensors. At the back, there’s a single camera with a dual-LED flash. There’s a raised ring around the camera module which should keep it safe from scratches. The phone has a metal band around it which houses the power and volume buttons on the right, while the left side is completely blank. We found that the buttons were well positioned and the power button has a texture, making it easy to distinguish.
The SIM tray is positioned on the top alongside one of the four microphones that the device has all around the body. At the bottom, there’s a downward-firing subwoofer and a USB Type-C port along with the primary microphone. Sadly, the U11 misses out on a 3.5mm headphone jack but HTC offers its HTC USonic headphones in the box. These are active noise cancellation headphones with a Type-C connector which can be plugged into the phone directly. HTC ships a USB Type-C to 3.5mm dongle in the box which will be required if you want to use your own headphones. You also get a Quick Charge 3.0 compatible charger in the box
With the increase in size, HTC has packed in a larger battery, bumping the total capacity up to 3930mAh and resulting in an increase in weight as well. This phone weighs 188g making it one of the heavier options in its class. However, the premium glass back coupled with the weight gives the impression that this phone is solidly built. Internationally, the HTC U11+ is available in three colours: Amazing Silver, Ceramic Black, and a see-through Translucent Black finish. However, the company has only launched the Amazing Silver variant in India, which looks more blue than silver.
HTC U11+ specifications and software
The HTC U11+ sports a 6-inch display with QuadHD+ resolution (1440 x 2880 pixels) putting out close to 537 pixels per inch. HTC calls it Super LCD 6, and it supports the DCI-P3 Wide colour gamut. Users can also switch to sRGB output and tweak the colour temperature to suit their individual preferences. There is a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection which should help keep the display intact on this slippery phone.
Powering the phone is the Snapdragon 835 SoC, an octa-core processor clocked at 2.45GHz, just like the HTC U11. There are two variants of the U11+, one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the other has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. At this point, HTC has only launched the higher-end variant in India, priced at Rs 56,990. In terms of connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, NFC, GPS, GLONASS and of course 4G and VoLTE. The HTC U11+ has a USB 3.1 Gen. 1 Type-C port with support video output using a DisplayPort cable. HTC has also improved the water- and dust-resistance rating from IP67 on the U11 to IP68 on the U11+.
HTC is known for its Sense UI skin and the U11+ runs it on top of Android Oreo. Features like Notifications Dots and Notification channels are supported, but there aren’t too many other visual changes compared to its previous version. Swipe right from the home screen and you are greeted by BlinkFeed, which replaces Google Now and shows news and content based on topics you select. You can also tweak BlinkFeed to show your Facebook and YouTube updates. The UI supports themes, and there are gestures that can be used to wake the device up, show Blinkfeed, or launch the camera app.
Shop On SecondCovers
Just like the HTC U Ultra and the U11, this phone gets HTC’s Sense Companion AI assistant. When we reviewed the U11, we found the assistant to be bare-bones, and it hasn’t changed much since then. HTC’s Edge Sense technology is also present, and uses sensors mounted on the sides of the phone to respond when you squeeze it. We really liked this feature, and the fact that it is customisable. You can squeeze the phone to launch an app or summon the assistant. You can also go a step further and set two different actions for short and long squeezes.
There are quite a few apps that come preinstalled on the U11+, including a set of Google apps, social media apps like Facebook, Messenger and Instagram, TouchPal keyboard, and a Boost+ resource management app. HTC has also added its VR app Viveport and the Zoe Video Editor, along with a fitness app called Under Armour Record. While most of these can be uninstalled, some can only be disabled.
HTC U11+ performance, cameras, and battery life
There is no doubt that the HTC U11+ is a powerful smartphone. Its Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 6GB of RAM is capable of bulldozing its way through any task you ask it to perform. The UI on the phone feels smooth and did not lag during our time with it. App load times are kept low and the phone can multitask easily. Benchmarks also show that it is a powerhouse. In AnTuTu 7, the U11+ managed to score 216,394. In GeekBench 4, the U11+ scored 1,933 for the single-core test and 6,538 for the multi-core test. Graphics performance is also good and the phone managed 60fps running the T-Rex Benchmark, and 20fps in the Manhattan test at QHD resolution in GFXBench.
The display is vivid and has good viewing angles. It also has good brightness, but the screen is a little reflective when outdoors. Apart from DCI-P3 and sRGB display modes, the U11+ has HDR10 support. While HDR didn’t kick in for YouTube and Netflix videos like we’ve seen on other phones, HDR files stored locally looked very good on the display and we could see the difference in how vibrant colours looked.
Instead of going for stereo speakers, HTC has used the phone’s earpiece for higher frequencies while the bottom-firing speaker handles the lower ones. This results in rich, loud audio which adds to the experience when watching a video or playing a game. HTC’s BoomSound software is built in and has music and theater modes to choose from.
HTC managed to impress us with the camera on the U11, and the U11+ is no different. It has the same 12-megapixel sensor with an f/1.7 aperture at the back. The sensor has big 1.4-micron pixels which helps it capture more light in dim conditions. The camera app is very basic with only toggles for HDR and the flash, and an option to switch between photo and video modes. One has to swipe from the left to see all the other modes available on the phone, which include Panorama, Hyperlapse, Slow Motion and Pro. Once in Pro mode, the camera gives you complete control over the white balance, exposure, ISO, shutter speed, and focus, and you can save photos in the RAW format.
Photos taken with the HTC U11+ were impressive, and it is safe to say that this is one of the best smartphone cameras at the moment. The phone is quick to focus and our shots were crisp with a good amount of detail. We never had to adjust the exposure when shooting in daylight as the phone got it right every single time.
Macros turned out great, as the phone managed to capture fine details very well. In the macro sample with the flower, you can see that the edges of the petals are well defined, and if you zoom into to the centre, you can see the pollen. Low-light shots were bright, and the phone managed to capture details and colour accurately with noise under control, unless we were in an extremely dim environment.
Tap to see full-sized HTC U11+ camera samples
The U11+ also records video brilliantly and is capable of going up to 4K. It has optical image stabilisation which eliminates shakes and delivers stable footage. We found that it worked well when recording at 1080p but did not work at 4K. 4K video clips are limited to six minutes, and the phone gets slightly warm when recording. At 1080p, you get the option to shoot at 30fps or 60fps.
You can record 3D audio which utilises the four microphones on the device, or you can choose High-Res Audio at all resolutions. Just like the U11, this smartphone gets “Acoustic Focus” which uses the microphones to focus on a subject’s voice over and above the background. The selfie camera tops out at 1080p and also gets the option to record 3D audio.
Battery life on the U11+ is good and we managed to go through an entire day without needing to plug it in to a charger. We managed to play Shadow Fight 3 and Clash Royale for around 30 minutes, watch a few videos on YouTube, and run a few benchmarks, among other things during the day, and we only saw the low battery reminder just before going to bed. When the battery drops below 20 percent, the phone automatically lowers the screen brightness. Our HD video loop test went on for 13 hours and 4 minutes. The Quick Charge 3 charger took us up to 60 percent in 50 minutes but it took a little over two hours to charge the phone completely.
HTC U11+ in pictures
Verdict If you are looking for a flagship smartphone, you now have one more option to choose from. The HTC U11+ has a big 18:9 display, powerful HTC BoomSound speakers, and impressive cameras. HTC’s Edge sense feature isn’t gimmicky and the Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM can run pretty much everything out there. The company also includes its USonic active noise cancellation headphones in the box.
If you don’t want the Samsung Galaxy S8+ (Review) and are staying away from the Pixel 2 XL (Review) because of its display troubles, the HTC U11+ looks like the perfect alternative. HTC has also managed to price it aggressively at Rs 56,990 making it great value for money. However, do keep in mind that fresh 2018 flagships with new hardware are also just around the corner, though unlike Sony and Samsung, HTC won’t have anything to announce at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month.

Honor 7X Review: King of Mid-Ranger Smartphones?
Earlier we had updated our readers, about the upcoming Honor 7X, which is set to launch in Indi on 7th December. The Honor 7X is an upgrade to the Honor 6X for sure, with improvements visible everywhere, and Honor is expected to price it aggressively just like the Honor 6X and recently launched Honor 9i. As it has been quite some time, since I have been using the phone, so I guess it’s the time when I share my thoughts about the phone in this Honor 7X Review, so that in case you’re planning to buy it, it’s a must-read, to know whether it meets all your needs or not.
Honor 7X Review
Design and Display
The Honor 7X has a full-metal uni-body design, that is as per the latest trends and due to the all-metal body, the phone feels really premium in hand. The edges are curved, and these make the Honor 7X very comfortable to hold. The aluminum chassis provides protection and adds rigidity.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
On the bottom edge, there is the micro USB port along with a 3.5mm jack- A mix of old and new. Honor has not opted for USB-C yet, but it’s good that they provided a headphone jack on the Honor 7X. The speaker is also at the bottom edge, and the sound output seems to be loud enough.
The dual camera module, along with the LED flash is on the top left corner on the rear of the Honor 7X and the fingerprint sensor is placed below the sensor, at the center to maintain the symmetrical design.
The display of the Honor 7X is the first upgrade when compared to the Honor 6X, the display is bigger and better, with a size of massive 5.93-inch. And by minimizing the bezels, Honor put this kind of huge, almost 6-inch display into the phone while maintaining the footprint of a 5.5-inch phone.
The bezel-less display provides a great experience while watching videos or playing games. And, the 18:9 aspect ratio display with full HD+ resolution (2160 x 1080) is vibrant, the colors are well saturated and the display is probably the best we have seen mid-ranger at such a price, considering the fact that the Honor 7X is priced for only Rs 12,999 in India. The viewing angles of the display are good, and it is well lit, even in outdoor conditions under direct sunlight everything on the screen is crystal clear and not a pain in the eyes.
Performance
The Honor 7X is powered by a Kirin 659 processor Octa-core processor (4×2.36 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.7 GHz Cortex-A53), coupled with 4GB of RAM. The Honor 7X is absolutely smooth and doesn’t lag at all. As a multitasker, I was enjoying YouTube videos, while switching between email, replying to texts, browsing the web and between multitasking, there were no lags at all.
I never expected that it will be so responsive and fluid, but well it is kinda comparable to flagships out there with 30K range, if we consider the multitasking and doing daily tasks. Now, many of you are probably addicted to some mobile games and would ask about gaming performance, well the Mali-T830 MP2 inside the Honor 7X handles casual games perfectly, there are no lags or frame drops.
I mostly play Clash Royale, 8 Ball Pool, Daddy was a thief and Asphalt 8, and among them, gaming experience was totally fluid. There were no lags at all and we hardly got to see any frame drops as well in the gameplay. Huawei has done a lot of work to make sure applications and game take full advantage of the 18:9 display. Huawei tested Honor 7X with over 200 top games and 1500 applications for compatibility and the apps which don’t support the display ratio yet, will automatically expand to take up the full screen without ruining the user experience.
There’s 32GB/64GB of storage onboard, which is enough for most users I guess and well, you can also pop in a microSD card having a capacity up to 256GB, given that you will be able to use only one SIM card as it comes with a hybrid SIM slot on the Honor 7X.
There is a 3340 mAh non-removable battery inside the Honor 7X which is good for regular usage. During the phase of amount two weeks while using the phone, the daily routine was checking emails, using social media and messaging apps, watching some YouTube videos and playing some casual games mostly, but with the 3340mAh battery, it needs to be plugged in sometimes in the evening if you panic about low battery.
Camera
When Honor 6X was launched, it impressed many, including us with the camera. The camera was the killer factor on the Honor 6X, it’s ancestor and it was one of the first mid-range phones to have dual camera setup which could provide great bokeh effect, and now the Honor 7X has an even better camera setup.
There is a 16 MP rear camera, along with a 2 MP depth sensing sensor to provide shallow depth of field and add bokeh to macro shots and portraits. The rear camera of the Honor 7X takes impressive shots, with a good amount of detail, perfect saturation levels, and natural bokeh effect. The good thing about Honor 7X is that the phone doesn’t make your portraits look artificial at all, with the bokeh.

Honor 7X Rear Camera Samples
1 of 9
The rear camera includes modes like night-shot, panorama, HDR, portrait mode, pro-photo, capture smiles, light painting, time-lapse, slow-mo and watermark. In low lighting conditions as well, the Honor 7X performs quite good.
#td_uid_2_5a303b8ef0fd0 .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item1 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Screenshot_20171211-181934-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat; #td_uid_2_5a303b8ef0fd0 .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item2 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/MVIMG_20171211_180244-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat;
1 of 2
The 8 MP front camera on the Honor 7X captures selfies with a good amount of detail, in good lighting conditions and the best thing is that Honor didn’t just concentrate on the rear camera, and the front camera is particularly good for video calling as it is capable of shooting at 1080p at 30fps.
#td_uid_3_5a303b8ef154e .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item1 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/IMG_20171205_133554-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat; #td_uid_3_5a303b8ef154e .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item2 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/IMG_20171211_181014-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat;

Outdoor Selfie
Portrait Selfie
Like rear, the front camera is also capable to shoot bokeh selfies/portrait images which uses software to blur the background of the person. It works in a good lit area and indoors which is more than enough for a device at this price range. Although that reminds me of Honor 9i, which has dual camera setup at the front and the portraits clicked using that are more refined.
Software: Nice Custom UI with fluid interface
The Honor 7X runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with company’s EMUI 5.1. Though Honor uses a custom skin, the EMUI 5.1 is pretty lightweight and doesn’t gulp all the free memory. EMUI 5.1 lets you choose between standard layout with all apps on the home screen or an App Drawer, there is the option to interchange positions of navigation keys, a floating dock with some controls can be added and there are features like motion control, one-handed UI, voice control and more.
#td_uid_4_5a303b8ef1ae7 .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item1 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Screenshot_20171211-181641-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat; #td_uid_4_5a303b8ef1ae7 .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item2 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Screenshot_20171211-182043-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat; #td_uid_4_5a303b8ef1ae7 .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item3 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Screenshot_20171211-182212-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat;
1 of 3
There are a bunch of other useful features like App Cloner and second space, but EMUI 5.1 is pretty much bug-free and as Honor is consistent in case of software updates, I guess new features, bug fixes will be provided regularly, so overall the software experience is fluid and smooth.
#td_uid_5_5a303b8ef2308 .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item1 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Screenshot_20171211-182132-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat; #td_uid_5_5a303b8ef2308 .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item2 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Screenshot_20171211-191628-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat; #td_uid_5_5a303b8ef2308 .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item3 background: url(http://www.reviewcenter.in/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Screenshot_20171211-181817-80x60.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat;

Camera add-ons
Split screen experience is better on 7X as if automatically resizes the window you’re working on when you need to type in it and it automatically accumulates the space required for it. First introduced in Honor 8, you can use gestures on the fingerprint scanner to perform various tasks like pulling down notifications, taking pictures, answering calls and many more.
Final Verdict
The Honor 7X keeps the promises of Honor’s great camera performance, along with providing raw power to do multitask seamlessly and have a great user experience. Priced at Rs 12,999 for 32 GB storage and 64 GB storage variant for Rs 15,999, Honor 7X is a perfectly priced smartphone and is available in 3 colors i.e. Aurora Blue, Gold and Black. Honor 7X was the best selling smartphone in world’s biggest 11.11 Alibaba sale and is a global best-seller budget smartphone.

Apple iPhone X Goes on Sale in India, Long Queues Outside the Apple Stores
Apple iPhone X has gone on sale in India with huge queues visible outside authorised Apple resellers in Delhi-NCR as well as Mumbai. We witnessed the queues first hand at an Apple reseller in Mumbai’s Lower Parel as well as Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Friday evening, with reports of most major retail stores across the country witnessing similar scenes.
Apple iPhone X India retail availability began at 6pm IST, with dozens of people lining up outside stores hours before that time in order to be the first to get their hands on the smartphone.
“We were up since 6am to drive down here as we thought 12 [noon] was the delivery time – we didn’t know it was at 6[pm],” said Ayush, who drove down to Delhi from Dehradun with his friend so the latter could get his hands on a 256GB iPhone X on day one. “It’s now more than 12 hours, out of which 7 hours of travel and 5-6 hours of waiting. Finally I think it’s worth the wait, as always. We are absolutely Apple lovers and we are more than happy to receive it.”

Of course, as has been endlessly reported since (and even before) the smartphone’s launch, the supply will likely not be able to match demand and Apple’s 10th anniversary iPhone will leave many potential buyers – and almost certainly those without pre-bookings – disappointed.
A retailer in South Delhi told that only those who pre-booked the smartphone with them would be able to pick it up on launch day on Friday, and everyone else may as well “forget it” for the next 3-4 days, at least.
India is of course not the only country where people are queuing up to buy the iPhone X. The first wave of launch countries include Andorra, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Jersey, Kuwait, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UAE, the UK, the US, and US Virgin Islands.
We’ve already seen long queues in the first markets the iPhone X became available in, such as Australia, Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Singapore. Lines started to form outside Apple’s New York City stores from Thursday itself.
Apple iPhone X price in India
Apple iPhone X India price starts at Rs. 89,000 for the 64GB version, while the 256GB version is priced at Rs. 1,02,000. The smartphone will be available in Silver and Space Grey colors. Apple has already revealed pricing of the Apple-designed accessories like leather and silicone cases, which will be available starting at Rs. 3,500. An all-new iPhone X leather folio will be available at Rs. 8,600 while a Lightning Dock in colour-matching metallic finishes will be available at Rs. 4,700.
At this price, the Apple iPhone X will be the most expensive smartphone in the country with closest rival being the Pixel 2 XL, which went up for pre-orders in India last week at Rs. 73,000 for the base variant. Apple’s own iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus went on sale in India back last month. The iPhone 8 price in India starts at Rs. 64,000 for the 64GB variant and is Rs. 77,000 for the 256GB model. iPhone 8 Plus 64GB and 256GB storage models come at Rs. 73,000 and Rs. 86,000, respectively.

LG Q6+ Unveiled With 4GB RAM and Free Screen Replacement at ₹ 17,990
LG Q6+ has been launched in India, and it will be available across retail outlets at Rs 17,990. Much like the LG Q6, the LG Q6+ also brings the premium features at affordable price. The difference between the LG Q6+ and the LG Q6 is minor, with the former bearing more RAM (4GB) and inbuilt storage (64GB), compared to the latter’s 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage. LG is offering one-time free screen replacement within 6 months. Unlike the Q6 which was an Amazon India exclusive, the Q6+ will be available for buying from physical retail stores across the country, in as many as two colours: Astro Black and Ice Platinum.
The interesting bit about the Q6 is also that this phone comes without a fingerprint scanner. Instead, it has sensors that offer facial recognition feature that could be used to unlock the device. Sounds familiar? Well, that is because this is the same feature that we recently saw in the iPhone X, a top Apple phone launched on October 12. Now, this is a very Apples to Oranges comparison. The Q6+ and the iPhone X are not even in the same league or same products. Although, on paper, the Q6+ does have the iPhone X-like features — the edge-to-edge display, facial recognition — that may help it stand apart in the crowded mainstream phone market.
LG Q6+ Features
The dual-SIM (nano+nano) LG Q6+ runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and as mentioned earlier, features a 5.5 full-HD 1080×2160 pixels display. LG Q6+ is powered by the Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM, which is expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB). It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The Q6+ is backed by a non-removable 3,000mAh battery.
13MP primary camera and 5MP front facing camera with wide angle selfie
13.97 centimetres (5.5-inch) IPS in cell touch capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution, 442 ppi pixel density and 16M colour support with Corning Gorilla Glass 3
Android v7.1 Nougat operating system with 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal memory expandable up to 2TB and dual SIM (nano+nano) dual-standby (4G+4G)
3000mAH lithium-ion battery providing talk-time of 14 hours and standby time of 136 hours
1-year manufacturer warranty for device and 6 months manufacturer warranty for in-box accessories including batteries from the date of purchase

The metal frames surrounding LG Q6+ is made using 7000 series aluminium, which the company says is one of the highest strength aluminium alloys. According to LG, the Q6+ is comfortable to hold and use with one hand despite its large display.
It features a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP 100-degrees wide-angle front shooter. It comes with an instant social share feature that lets users to instantly share selfies with friends. There’s a Square Camera Mode that makes it easy to create photo collages using multiple square images.
The connectivity options offered by LG Q6+ include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, NFC, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It isn’t IP68 certified for dust and water resistance although LG claims that the Q6+ comes with military-grade durability. The LG Q6+ houses a 3000mAh battery and comes with sensors including accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. It measures 142.5×69.3×8.1mm and weighs 149 grams.
