Getting Started
I thought of the idea to build a robot because at the time I thought It would be fun and achievable within my time-frame. I knew that It’d be a tough project, however I decided I wanted to try and make it relatively eco-friendly. I came up with the idea to reuse my old speaker created for my Design Technology GCSE. I started breaking the speaker apart and salvaging the perspex.

After I removed the sides, base and lid I started wondering what I could do with them, funnily enough the base and the lid remained as the base and lid of my new robot. As soon as this was decided I started cutting holes into the plastic for the wheels to go as well as drilling the holes for the motors.
Tumblr media
One of the earliest setbacks I encountered were the holes I originally cut for the wheels as they were not big enough to give the wheels the required movement. This meant I had to go back and cut the holes bigger. After this I started to screw the motors in place with a Geared Motor Bracket and two M3 30MM hex bolts then capping those of with two M3 Nuts. Then I screwed two M3 10MM Bolts vertically into the motor brackets to secure them. I then screwed the wheels onto the motors using four M2 25MM screws, when this was done I proceeded to screw on the L298N Module and connected the motors to it.
Tumblr media
After this was all wired up correctly I added a canopy by drilling three holes in the base and three in the canopy and then adding the M3 brass spacers and then screwing them in with six M3 10MM hex bolts. I did this so I could use It to house my Arduino later.

Why Your Old Signage Should Be Replaced With Perspex And Acrylic Panel
From shop to showroom and office to hotel – we need to use signage everywhere. When it comes to add stylish look to your property that can be your corporate office plaque, office or hotel room number or residential place sign, Perspex acrylic signage is an excellent and affordable solution.
These easily available sheets have similarity with the glass although acrylic has better insulation than glass. Moreover, you can easily install them yourself if you can buy Perspex and acrylic cut to size superior in quality. Otherwise, it is always better to take the professional help from the signage service provider who can provide superior finish with an exceptionally light transmission quality.
Why should we choose Perspex and acrylic signs?
·         Who doesn’t want to give a clean, stylish and smarty look in his residential or business properties? Obviously, everyone! This is exactly what Perspex and acrylic signs serve. For any kind of small signs, these are the most popular choice at the present days.
·         Although light in weight, these sheets have 10 to 20 times better impact resistance than glass.
·         Perspex and acrylic signs come with long durability. The material manufacturers often give at least 5 years guarantee on these products.
·         You have addition choice to give cleared modern edge look by choosing diamond polish with the Perspex and acrylic signs.
How to choose Perspex and acrylic sign?
Perspex and acrylic sheets do not cost much. While shopping for these sheets, you need to figure out the right measurement and thickness.
·         Usually, standard sizes for these sheets are 2030mm x 1523mm and 3050mm x 2030mm. Alternatively, you can choose the customised size as per your requirement.
·         Then you need to decide the thickness of the panel as there is a wide range of thickness and 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 20mm, and 25mm are considered as standard thicknesses as they can give a clear look. You can also go for thicker acrylic sheet as much as 200mm.
·         Perspex and acrylic sheets are also available in all types of colours. Based on the surroundings and interior look, you should choose a compatible colour for the signage panel.
How to fix your Perspex acrylic signs?
Most of the manufacturers supply Perspex and acrylic cut to size in A5, A4, A3, A2, A1 and A0 and several other options. They usually supply he panels with adequate numbers of drills on its surface. The holes are already standard in size so that you can easily fix them on the right place.
Now, you need to figure out the exact place where you wish to fix the acrylic signage. Screw the signage plate to fix it on the wall. It is quite easy to fix it than you think.
Once the installation of your Perspex and acrylic signage is done, you can definitely make out how it helps to increase the aesthetics of the place.

Neodymium magnets
From First for Magnets website (where I’ve ordered the test magnets from): Neodymium magnets are the most powerful of all permanent magnets. They are often known as “Super Magnets”.They are used in applications where the strongest magnetic force is required from the smallest possible volume of magnet material.Even small neodymium magnets have a surprising amount of magnetic force and they are capable of lifting in excess of 1,000 times their own weight. A neodymium disc magnet weighing only 2 grams can lift a steel block weighing over 2,000 grams! Neodymium magnets emit deep magnetic fields to attract ferrous items and other magnets from impressive distances. Two neodymium disc magnets 10mm diameter and 5mm thick can attract each other and hold in place, through the thickness of a human finger. .Neodymium magnets (NdFeB), commonly known as ‘rare earth’ magnets are high-performance permanent magnets constructed from an alloy of neodymium, iron and boron. They are true permanent magnets and will not lose their magnetism unless they are heated to a temperature which exceeds the maximum operating temperature rating or their protective plating is damaged and water ingress causes rusting, which over time will magnetically and mechanically damage the magnets. I’m going to order a coupe of packs of N42 20 x 10 x 2, each magnet has a ‘pull  ‘ weight of 0.6 KG, this mean each perspex sheet, which weighs 2 kg will be supported by 2.4 KG in pull weight. If you double up on the magnet from 1 to 2 the magnetic effect  is increased by 80%.

I’ve drawn up some more technical plans for the FIP. I’m going to go for a steel box frame using 1″ box steel and plastic connectors bought off Ebay, Its the same of construction you see on markets, easy to put up and reusable. I’m looking at 16′ Long, 5′ ish wide and 6′ high. I’ll get the metal from Mercers Metal merchants I’ve found a place online that the people at the Making Rooms told me about, its called Kitronic and it sells all sorts of interesting stuff. I need to price it up first, probably will check different places out to compare and once ordered I’m then going to use the perspex to cover the long sides and sit a light source inside at one end on a wood panel, hopefully this will allow some light to escape (just a glow would be good) and direct the majority of it towards the other end where I will have an image of the subjects face. This portrait will be made up of drilled holes in a MDF sheet. I want to show the part of my friends personality that gets through this by projecting light out of portrait, very much like how he projects a sense of normality to the outside world.   I don’t want to be drilling holes in the perspex so I’m looking at using neodymium magnets to hold the perspex to the fame. These are a so called rare earth element that has a high magnetic force. they are small , relatively cheap and very strong, each magnet is only 10mm x 20mm x 2mm, yet has a pulling weight of going on for 1 Kilo. I’ve done a bit of research online but will need to do more and speak to someone who deals with them for more info. Ideally I’l stick the magnets to the perspex using some kind of trade quality bonding tape.
