100 Weird AU's? Yes.

So, I had these AU prompts on my phone for quite a while, and I was actually thinking about using them. And what better way to do it than using them with the Tracy's?

Reading and reading these prompts again (and under the gentle guidance of @willow-salix ) I thought that these prompts doesn't exactly match the brothers' everyday situation, but what if we push it past its limit? Yes, biting more that you can chew can be a little difficult, but I don't think it will be impossible. And that's where this challenge is born!

Get the Tracy's out of International Rescue's bubble and let them live an everyday situation as normal people! They can also be medieval nobles or even futuristic robots, the choice's up to you! You can choose from soo many things others don't even think about (and not even me, for a while)!

oh lord WHAT IN THE GREEN WORLD YOU ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT MAKING A FIC WITH ONE OF MY PROMPTS? AND A GOOD ASS ONE TOO? SLSKSKSKSKSKOSPSPSPOAKSSKAK

i loved that so much, and it’s a very noble gesture i could picture everyone do. i also loved how Scott actually had to earn Lisa’s trust to be able to get her number, very wise of her. i loved this au where there’s no IR, it shows the brothers are still able to help in their own way and it’s not because they’re ‘forced to’, if you get what i mean (not saying they don’t like to help when on canon IR timeline, it’s just that…it’s their job y’kno?).

I learnt for you

I’ve been working on this fic on and off over the past year having saved a few ideas from @bonsaiiiiiii list of #100 weird AUs post. As a slow writer who had been struggling with a stressful healthcare job, it has been hard to get this one completed, but with my new long commute I decided to try complete it and now it’s finally ready to post. 

The prompt that stood out to me the most was #28 I learned sign language to communicate with you!AU, especially as I’d recently started watching Stingray. This is very much an ‘if International Rescue never happened AU’ where I tried to stick to the original series lore, which allowed me to play in the combined universe and bring in Stingray. It’s a Scott centred fic, with a tad of Gordon.

Scott is a coffee loving air force pilot and when he finds out the new cute barista at his favourite café is deaf, he decides to learn a little sign language in order to ask her out. However Scott’s exploration into American Sign Language teaches him more than just a few hand movements.

A little note, as a way of differentiating between the two languages used, I used double quotation marks “ ” for spoken words and single quotation marks ‘ ’ for signed words. 

It’s quite long, almost 10k, so here is the AO3 and FFN link, in case you prefer to read it on one of those.  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.

Now maybe I’ll pass for rude and disrespectful, but after a year I kept my thoughts on this for myself now I feel like I have to expose it to the thunderfam. this damn AU. this damn AU that made me feel a lot of mixed emotions. from happiness as soon as I posted it to see that it received a lot of visibility. incredulity when I saw that, despite this visibility, no one was currently taking part in the AU. I felt embittered to see a lot of questions, requests for clarification, expressions of gratitude/excitement...and not see anything done. It made me feel stupid, yes, stupid. I speak with someone, more than someone tells me they have no time. It doesn’t matter, I answer, I never have time too, and then I reblog the post long after the deadline, hoping someone will take a look at it. and yet again visibility and positive comments, but, as happened before, I don’t receive any fic/art in return. and meanwhile I see several challenges and AU trending in the fandom, people express their interest and actually participate! fabulous! I go back to my AU, empty. I asked myself this question a lot. Is there something wrong with the challenge that I created? Now I’m reblogging this post again, but I expect nothing in return now. I just want an answer.
