Working on my #HB90Bootcamp #WritingPlanner course project. So glad to finally get a chance to stop what I've been trying to do, get a grip on my #writinglife and get my writing in some type of order! Thanks to @sarracannon with @heartbreathings and @seejavaciawrite with #SeeJaneWrite I am going to get it together with my #WritingGoals in 2021! #WritingCoach #GroupCoaching #MFAoverLatte #1000dayMFA #plannercommunity #PlannerGoals https://www.instagram.com/p/CTyGROIIOh9/?utm_medium=tumblr

This book—Tell Me, by Kim Addonizio—was recommended in the above list as a "gateway" book, and the first poem, with any luck, is an indication of why. As an outsider to poetry, I can still see that the poet is playing with language, and the movement from outside to in. Is the tightening of lines intentional? How much thought goes into the design and typography of a poem? I remember e.e.cummings was very visual, is all poetry? I can comprehend the feeling of this poem too, unless I am missing a lot. And this: …I don't know how God can bear/ seeing everything at once: the falling bodies, the monuments and burnings,/ the lovers pacing the floors of how many locked hearts. I want to close/ my eyes and find a quiet field in fog, a few sheep moving toward a fence. This was my depression. This was my inability to face a day knowing how many eyes would open. And the desire to write a true thing, I am no poet, but I want to draw one true thing, or somehow convey to the world that I have seen it, to make sure they see that true thing they seem to just slide over. Maybe I have it all wrong, but maybe poetry is more like visual art and that is okay. Maybe in a year I'd read it completely differently.

This is what I’m starting. I’ve never gotten into poetry, and have always felt that was something missing from my life. Add to that a life devoid of anything other than kid culture recently, and you’ve got a mom who feels really stupid. I used to be smart! So. Starting.
