THURSDAY THRASHING

I’ve been distracted this week with tent shopping since our Coleman Tenaya Lake got beaten up by the wind. It was only one of the top poles, but it is too broken to repair and there are no replacements.

So, since we’re not quite ready to buy a cargo trailer to build our own camper it’s time to buy a new tent.

We have to be able to stand up in our tent. No more getting dressed while crouched over or sitting on the floor for us. We need elbow room. I’m also done with those tents that take half an hour of fighting and arguing to put up or take down. 

At first I looked at Gazelle hub tents. They pop up in seconds and are very popular, but they are also very expensive. Clam, well known for their pop-up gazebos, has a slightly cheaper version. Academy Sports has a knockoff for half the price, but they have a problem with leaking when it rains. 

All of them are just a little too narrow and a little too pricey, though. Bushnell just came out with their own line of them, and they have a 12′ by 12′ five sided version that would be perfect, but it’s still expensive. Really tempting, but... sigh.

I also really like the idea of the tents that attach to a 10x10 canopy, and we already have a canopy. We could even get a second canopy and put them together, a tent in one and kitchen in the other. They also have 10x20 canopies that would make the perfect setup. My only issue is the wind tolerance of a canopy. You only get four points to stake them down (6 on the 10x20), and that’s an issue.

In conventional tents Coleman has several good instant up tents, similar to our late, great Tenaya Lake. Instead of 60 seconds like the hub tents they go up in 5-10 minutes. 

Core is another popular brand, and Costco has a sale on the 10x14 version that has built in LED lights. One half can act as a screened in patio, and that’s nice. It’s half the price of that Bushnell that I’m drooling over. I think that is the one to get. 

Of course, if I could convince Kitten to sleep in a hammock it would solve all our problems. Hammocks set up anywhere, give you the best night’s sleep, and are easy to transport. They’re versatile. They’re perfect for winter camping with the right equipment. 

She’s not ready for that though, especially since we can’t snuggle in a hammock, and that’s part of the fun of camping. Plus we’d still need a separate dressing room tent (though it can also be used for a shower and restroom).

I love you, baby. Hammock, cot, or wherever we sleep. MWAH!

There's going to be a lot of customers today and they come in with separate accounts or credit cards and we have a credit program and it's cheaper but they just charge it and move these things are usually 10 grand summer less some are a little more they're only 600 lb lighter than the last camper but that thing is the light camper and it was 23 foot but it's designed to be light and for some reason it's extremely cheap I think because people don't like the insides but these things are very light 1700 lb is like 150 lb tongue weight and I can pick it up and also Sherry can we heard about her and Jackie and marching around the parking lot really it just takes a little bit of effort it's not very heavy it's not heavy to tow and has four wheels they're recommend something with the tvwr over around 3800 and it's listed there and that's pounds combined your car and the thing but really your car tells you what you can tell most cars can tow two thousand pounds and you have to look it up 2500 and almost everybody can get one of these and don't SUV can tow 2500 this has a lot of amenities it has a stove it has a refrigerator it has some propane system and you can plug it in for both to work it has a television and a radio and most of them have it these days this has a shower system with a curtain you put down a mat and you shower outside it has a heater for the water and has a water tank and you can hook it up to water supply and 99% of them have that the only difference is that you're going to be in a partial tent but it can sleep five people and that is nice so you have an SUV or a small truck even the small pickups can do it these days the engines are better and it really won't get heated unless you go mountaineering and you bring a car with you too or you travel in the SUV you might want to have two vehicles if you're pulling one of these but really you can all sleep in it and they're inexpensive and you can get it on credit or you can use a credit card and it is not much money some people get a personal loan however you do it it's only 11,000 and our friends looked at one and he did not know that it had all the amenities hookups are priority and to have a TV and a stove in fridge is all he needs and it has a eating area and it sits seats four at a table and it has a canopy for outside it's really quite a deal and you can get a screen enclosure a lot of people use these and they're wonderful driving is much easier that the restrictions are far less on what you can do because it doesn't move around it's only about 10 ft long total including the tongue and you can put sway bars and you can also put different tires and it runs much better and it's low profile and the wind doesn't affect it much they don't blow over and really they cost less to put in the campground there's tons of them now and campgrounds accommodate them and they're not tenting areas anymore it's a wonderful way to go it's a wonderful thing to do if you're in a parking lot it's ideal they're not obtrusive they're not big can you shut them down it looks like you're just parking the shop it's wonderful we recommend it you don't stick out like a sore thumb either and your stuff is all kind of locked away in it I'm going to go ahead and put these out they're not really out there but I'm going to start putting them out and people will come in and buy both and I'll try them and see which one they want to use or they use both as a backup and they have other people bring them it's great and I can sell tons of these and I can have them shipped they stack them three high and they bring nine each shipment I'm encouraged from mine to come down now we saw that everybody and we saw it right off the floor and we do prep them and you can watch it being done we've been handling him and people keep it straight and they help us keep it straight it's important
