Hit with a quirk (part 1.5?): Fatgum X reader
Summary: I explained in a short prelude how a bunch of pro heroes all got hit with a quirk that turned them into children, I'll be doing a short fic for each of the heroes where the reader will be looking after them until the effects wear off. We will be starting with Fatgum.
(X)= Insert name
(No warnings, just wholesome fluff.)
REWORK IN PROGRESS
---------
"Alright Tamaki, Eraserhead and Present Mic didn't check in." Fatgum adjusted his glove, "they're going after some trouble maker misusing his quirk, we gotta make sure they're okay." Tamaki nodded, his hood over his eyes.
They wandered through the dark, carefully approaching their last known location. There were only a few lights that illuminated the dark alley, a loud scream suddenly making Fatgum's ears ring. Was that Hizashi? It certainly felt like it...why did his voice sound so strange?
It was quite a sight, a short scraggly blonde kid running frantically alongside a small boy with dark hair that covered his face. "They...look familiar, what's going on?" Fatgum though, when suddenly a figure in a bright purple cloak appeared from the alleyway. He laughed, watching the kids run.
"You heroes, once I deal with the lot of you this city will be in utter chaos!" Tamaki leaped forward, grabbing the kids. However, the black haired kid barely touched his arm when Tamaki suddenly was surrounded by a puff of smoke.
"An explosion quirk!?" Fatgum thought, no that couldn't be it. The villain was laughing and slowly walking over as Fatgum ran to Tamaki. "Suneater! What-" He froze, Tamaki was small, whimpering and scared. "You're...a kid?!" The other two also stared up at Taishiro, making the large hero freeze."Aizawa...Hizashi?." Fatgum suddenly looked up and standing over him was the tall thin figure.
"Gotcha hero!" He was gripped tight on the shoulder by the villain and before Fatgum knew it he was engulfed in the same smoke he had seen surrounding Tamaki. When Taishiro opened his eyes, he was alot smaller. He had no recollection of what happened or what was going on, but the small round boy took one look around and saw three others cowering in fear and a tall guy in a cloak laughing like the villains he saw in the cartoons. He screwed up his face and kicked the guy in the knee. The villain howled with pain, alerting the other nearby heroes as Tai helped pull a small Tamaki to his feet.
"RUN!"
----
It took the police hours after the arrest to round up Fatgum and the others, they were found by Mirio and Sir Nighteye in an alley huddled behind a dumpster scared stiff.
---
Fatgum was exhausted, holding onto Midnight's hand as she lead him up the stairs of a small apartment building. He was hungry, he had burned through most of his fat from running, and had burned through his energy even faster than that. "I'm tired..." He mumbled, rubbing his eyes.
Midnight smiled, "I know don't worry. I have a friend that's going to let you stay over. It will be better than sleeping outside right?"
He nodded softly, his face still chubby and round.
(x) opened the door as soon as Midnight knocked. "Oh my gosh..." The first thing the two did was guide the now much smaller BMI hero to the washroom. After the bathwater was ready, they closed the door behind him so he could get cleaned up.
The two women sat in the livingroom sipping tea.(X) kept her voice low, "Midnight!? When you said the pros were turned into kids I...I thought you were joking!?" She shrugged.
"It's a strange phenomenon...but who better to help take care of this than UA's early child quirk development specialist?" She gave (x) a satisfied smile. "We found out it was a guy with an anti aging quirk that was hiked up on enhancers...so, you think you can take care of the big guy for the next few days until this wears off?"
"Miss (x)?" The small roly poly boy was peeking around the corner into the room, wearing a bathrobe that was way too big. "can I have a snack before bed?" (X) took a deep breath.
"Okay, I put a sweater and some shorts in the spare room, I'll bring your snack in a minute." The blonde boy grinned from ear to ear.
"Gee, you're real nice! Thank you lady!" He giggled loudly, his footsteps thumping along the floor as he excitedly ran.
"I think you can handle it...now I've gotta go; poor Nighteye and Mirio are trying to look after Tamaki."
---
It was shocking to see Taishiro as a child, with her position (x) was familiar with most of the pros and would describe Fatgum as a gentle giant. However, as a rampaging seven year old he was hyper and talked a mile a minute. She hoped that he had grown up with rich parents, if the school weren't reimbursing her for groceries she would have broken the bank.
Taishiro would loudly play pretend, and somehow incorporate a fight scene in any game. He was surprisingly good at entertaining himself, and nearly gave (x) a heart attack when he fell off the top of the couch with a squeal of laughter. "Oh no! They got me!" He shouted as he lay on the floor and laughed, showing that familiar grin. He burned through his fat very quickly, and was constantly hungry.
Between mouthfuls he would have streams of questions, only to excitedly interrupt her answers with a sudden memory of a story or random fact.
It came to no surprise that with such a large amount of energy was a huge crash and she would find him asleep throughout the day in the most random places. The hours lazily passed by, and (x) soon finished making a warm wonton soup as the rain gently fell outside.
"Tai? Dinner time!" She finished setting the table, looking around as she wiped her hands. (X) froze, not hearing the excited sound of his feet as he rushed to come to the table. Her blood ran cold, "Did that villain escape? Did Tai get into some chemicals!?" She heart was racing as she checked every room and cupboard.
"Tai?? Taishiro!?" She was calling, when she suddenly threw the curtain back from the bathtub. Her shoulders relaxed, there he was. Curled up in the tub, sound asleep with her cat. (X) laughed softly to herself, kneeling beside the tub to wake him up.
He sleepily walked to the table, and silently ate what must have been three whole bowls of soup. After he was bathed and wearing fresh pyjamas it was time for bed. As she took him to his room he softly gripped the sleeve of her sweater. "miss. (X)?" He looked worried.
She kneeled down, "What's wrong?" He was looking to the floor with soft red cheeks.
"I'm scared..." He looked embarrassed. "Last night was scary..." (X) sighed, kneeling down.
"will it help if I stayed in your room until you fell asleep?" He nodded slowly, holding her hand tight.
She left one of the lamps on, leaving the room in a small gentle glow as she tucked him in. "Now you need your rest, how does pancakes tomorrow morning sound?" He smiled sleepily.
"Okay..."
-----
Taishiro opened his eyes slowly as the early morning light creeped over the soft pink blankets. When he sat up the bed creaked a little under his full size. "Where..." The vivid memory of Tamaki and that villain flashed into his mind but after that...that couldn't have really happened did it?
When Fatgum looked over, he saw (X) asleep in a chair and he felt his face burn. "...I am never going to hear this end of this..." He made a mental note to apologize to his poor mother, how in the world did she do it?
---
(X) woke to the sound of a whisk mixing something, and the blankets were messed up. "Did he get up already?" She mumbled, sighing. "Tai, you should have waited for me you're going to hurt yourself." She called, "besides you can't reach the...stove." She walked into the kitchen to see Taishiro, fully grown. The quirk wearing off had completely burned his fat off. In a way he was thankful otherwise he wouldn't have been able to fit into any of the clothes laying around the house. He had a few stacks of pancakes already completed, and flour dusting his hair.
"Uhm hey (X)...I..." He slowly slid a plate of pancakes onto the table." I made you breakfast..." He scratched the back of his head, thinking about the last twenty four hours. "I made you breakfast..." He repeated, unsure what to say. His stomach was twisting in knots. I'm so sorry for this whole mess!" (X) smiled, her mouth wrinkling a little and before she knew it she was laughing, in moments the both of them just stood there laughing before digging into the pancakes.

About Bleach...
Okay.. so let’s get started and dig into bleaching; what condition your hair is in, what is best for it, the different types of bleach, etc.
Back in January I had my hair as a really vibrant blue, but as I can’t seem to keep my hair the same color for more than a couple months, I decided to hike my ass up to target and buy a box of black hair dye. This was a big mistake. Of course, if you want to go black by all means go for it, but getting back to a nice base color is not an easy venture after taking in a permanent black.
In my mind, I would’ve been able to bleach my hair once or twice and gotten back to my vibrant blue you see above. But expectations vs. reality here... This definitely did not happen. My hair turned light blonde, and brassy, and green, and still held most of the black. This was a nightmare to me, as my hair had never turned green like this before. I had left the bleach on for 45 minutes after application, so around an hour in total. I rinsed my hair and was mortified.
After doing some research I found a lot of people talking about purple shampoo calming brassy and potentially green tones as well. But the thought of purple shampoo wasn’t enough for me, so as well as the shampoo I made the fatal mistake of picking up more bleach.
I have my hair pinned up, but this was the result after the second bleaching. As you can see, I pretty much got rid of the green. but the brassy colors were still in there. At this time I had no idea toner helped, and being clueless I used arctic fox’s frose to color my hair. Now, pink colors barely show up unless your base color is very light. so instead of getting pink I got a muddled pink roots orange-y hair weird mess; again.
I was pretty annoyed and ready to give up, at this point my hair felt very damaged and the last thing I wanted to do was get more bleach. But I'm very determined to get things done exactly how I imagined... so I caved and bought more bleach.
Ta-da it actually worked this time!! I picked up a Kiss brand box bleach that came with a toner, but it wasn’t a permanent toner so I didn’t touch it. Instead, I was convinced my hair was light enough to do a silver and again I was wrong. I found a youtube video where this lovely girl concocted her own mixture of silver dye using Arctic Fox’s Transylvania, Manic Panic’s purple haze, and diluted the mix with conditioner.
The results after this one was okay to me, though you can see at the ends my brassy blonde was still showing through. I kept this in for about a week before heading to Sally Beauty’s, deciding to fix this mess once and for all. After some more digging around I picked up the Wella T18 toner with a big bottle of the 20 Wella Developer. Now at this point my hair was pretty faded, but I wanted to make sure the toner would take to my hair, so I did as the lady at Sally’s suggested; a bleach wash.
For those of you that don’t know a bleach wash is a very mild form of bleaching your hair. For this process I used half a packet of Wella bleach powder along with 1.5 oz. of the 20 developer, and diluted the mixture with shampoo until I had enough to cover my whole head. I let this sit for about 30 minutes, after washing, my hair was completely stripped of purple, but instead of returning me back to my base color... I had blue-ish tints near the top of my head.
After this I absolutely refused to use bleach again, but still wasn’t convinced the toner would take to my hair, so I did a little trick that I found recommended by several beauty YouTubers...
1 cup of baking soda
1 cup of 10 or 20 developer
3 tablespoons of dish soap
3 tablespoons of purple shampoo
I know what you might be thinking, but this trick has saved me. I mixed that all together, having well more than I needed for my hair, got on my gloves and massaged it into my roots, as that was the only spot on my hair that needed more lightening. I was a little nervous for the results as my hair was so damaged, but I wanted this to be the last time I messed with my hair for a while so I could let the poor thing heal. After letting the mixture sit on my head for 25 minutes, I took my cap off to see that my baby roots had turned pink.
Now at this point, I was annoyed, and had no idea how that had happened. I sighed with frustration, but I still had one last hope: my Wella T18 toner. And damn do I gotta say...
It really did the trick. This toner was amazing, it gave me the light blonde I had been set off to get at the start of this whole charade. Now as you can see there were some brassy spots I missed (though most of that is from lighting) but I just had to stop then and let my hair breathe.
These were the several mistakes in my hair process that made me learn a ton, and I hope I can help some of you avoid such a frustrating process.

Covered in All the Colored Lights
Well, this looks wild and different coming from me, doesn't it? If you've been a Sparkler long enough, you may remember this character of mine from ages ago when I made This Is Where You Wanna Be, which featured her. Her name is Windith, and she's a performer who likes mixing old-time circus elements with more contemporary stuff. (She was originally just a circus performer but that felt too limiting for me, and I'm thinking it might be a little too passive for her personality. I don't have a set story for her, so her character will perpetually be in development ) This drawing was also me testing out some new paper and the new Skin Tone marker set from Ohuhu. Which I simply had to get because it meant more colors of their brush tip markers that I've tested out in the past. (Ohuhu Brush Marker Review and Sweet Ohuhu Snail) I'll cut to the chase for those that aren't interested in the longer version: I kinda hate this paper and it, unfortunately, was not the best choice for what was supposed to be a mostly-marker illustration. But I like the markers! The markers themselves are nice as always, and I like the addition of the new colors, but the one thing I have to point out is that Ohuhu is still lacking in good colors for super pale skin that doesn't have a strong pink or gray undertone. They're doing really good with peachy tones, mid-tone, warm browns, and the new colors add some really nice darker/cooler browns, though. In fact, the new marker colors are what primarily inspired me to bring Winidth back into the fold in the first place; some of the colors looked like they would work really well for her skin tone in particular, and I've avoided drawing her traditionally in the past because I wasn't sure I could capture it accurately with the supplies I had. And...that's really all I have to say about the markers, actually. As brush markers, virtually nothing has changed from the last two rounds of testing I did with the Ohuhus, and thus the only thing I can really comment on is the colors. I really appreciate having more to pick from, especially because some of the colors in the set really do stand apart from the rest of my alcohol marker collection, but a lot of the "light skin tone" options are either too orange/pink or too yellow or just generally too dark for a light/pale skin tone. So, my final commentary is the same as always: More colors, please! Now, as for that paper... I picked up a new sketchbook from my local Ross, which I've known for a while now as having a surprisingly good (maybe not the best, but surprisingly good) art supply section. This paper is by a brand called Craft Smith, which as far as I can tell seems to be very into making scrapbook/craft paper and doesn't appear to be actively selling/promoting sketchbooks currently. (At least not anywhere I could find online.) It also claims to be "Mixed Media Paper 120 lb (180 gsm)." I actually have some 120 lb mixed media paper that I use semi-frequently in the form of a sketchbook by Denik. And funnily enough, that's the same paper I used on my other two Ohuhu marker pieces. So we have both a baseline for comparison in terms of performance and in terms of feel. Now, I'm not an idiot. I did inspect the paper before I actually bought the sketchbook, and it's alarming how deceptive this paper is. It definitely has the right weight/thickness to it, even compared to the 120 lb. paper I already had once I got it home. The only truly notable differences are 1. This paper is a brighter white (the Denik paper is almost on the blue/purple side) and 2. This paper feels smoother. And the second point was actually one of the reasons I bought it, as I thought it was make for a really nice marker paper. (Smoother paper tends to be a better option for brush markers so you don't wear out the nibs as quickly) Oh boy, how wrong would I be! So, let me explain just by going through my process for the art, since that and discovering the atrocities of this paper go pretty hand-in-hand. Trying desperately to get used to my current tablet situation, I started by doing the lines for the illustration digitally, having been inspired for a pose/facial expression by some Ball Jointed Dolls over on Instagram. The lines didn't turn out perfectly, but they were good enough that I felt comfortable printing them out and re-inking them traditionally as I did for Fairy Enchanting, the artwork featured on my Commission Sheet. In that process, I would end up with a 1/2 of the drawing that didn't print correctly, the proper print out I used to do the inking, and also similarly to Fairy Enchanting, a first attempt at tracing my lines that was not turning out how I wanted that got scrapped. So, essentially, I had 1.5 test pages just for colors/color placement (as they were on regular printer paper), and 1 to see how this paper would actually handle my supplies. And while normally I'd be scolding myself for wasting paper and ink, in this case, it's actually a very good thing that happened. My second attempt at inking on this paper went a lot smoother (I think I just needed to loosen up the inking part of my brain), and I was actually pretty happy with how the lines turned out. So much so that once I discovered major problems with the paper, I actually scanned the inked version in to preserve it, just in case. And I even inked it a third time on to the Denik paper I mentioned earlier, extra-just in case so I could even do a side-by-side comparison of the two papers to show "this paper is crap, this other paper is not." (Fortunately, I don't think I'll be needing that third inking despite the tale I'm about to tell.) I started out by using the different test pages to make sure I had the right tones/colors I wanted for the skin. The swatches looked okay, so I went ahead and tried coloring the skin to test some blush and shading. Right away I noticed that 1. The ink feathers/bleeds across the page (outside of lines) way more than it should for a paper this thick, and 2. once the ink settles into the paper, it's kind of patchy/spotty. And 3. If you trying layering a light color over a darker color with alcohol markers, it makes the patchy/spotty-ness more apparent. Obviously, these things combined make layering and blending tricky without the end result looking strange and uncomfortable. Just in case there was something this paper didn't like about the Ohuhu markers, in particular (and also because I wasn't super happy with my color choices for Ohuhu for this particular hair color), I did try a test blend for the hair with some Copic markers. Nope, still feathering badly and doing the weird spotty thing. Still not layering very well without re-working the entire area. Briefly, I panicked. The whole idea for this paper was to be for markers, and I had largely intended for this illustration to be pretty markers-only. But this paper, quite apparently, hates markers. Okay, okay. I tried one more blending/coloring test, this time just seeing if I could do the skin and get it to look decent on this paper inside my lines, and while not super ideal, I did manage to get something I was mostly happy with. Likewise, my next step was to do that again on the final piece. At least then I'd have the most important part--the skin--for this piece done and then I could proceed with whatever seemed like the best option for the rest of it. So the skin actually turned out okay in the end because I was being exceptionally careful to work with the issues I'd already discovered. By nature, it's not the best (as in it would look better on better paper), but it works. I still had at least a small problem on my hands though. To be fair, even before I printed the lines off I was thinking I might try washi tape for her clothes/shawl/whatever, so the paper not liking markers really just re-enforced that idea. The problem was I still had the hair to do. I tried a couple more blending/coloring tests, trying desperately to make the markers work for that, but it just wasn't happening. The way I blend hair just requires too many layers for this paper. So my next solution was to try some tests with colored pencils. For smooth, flat color, this paper is actually pretty nice for colored pencils. For layering and blending, however, (just as I suspected before I even tried it) it's too smooth. Blending works pretty okay if you're just doing 1-2 layers, but anything beyond that is just slippery and unsatisfying, to say the least. That was my two main mediums thrown out the window. Now what do I do? Because I was largely at my wit's end, I got a little crazy and tried some tests using some Faber Castell gelatos to see what they would do. And I have to say, putting the gelatos to this paper does feel exceptionally good, as the smoothness of the paper suits the creamy texture of the gelatos. Although the gelatos don't blend out super well when you add water to them on this paper, so that limits what you can do with them by a fair amount. Not really knowing what else to do, I broke out some actual watercolors and tried those. Fortunately, while the paper does warp fairly easily (that's to be expected with any paper less than 140 lb.), the paint lays down and blends fairly smoothly and nicely. And so I finally had something to work with. There's a reason when I work with watercolors I usually don't go for a hard illustration like this, but I think I managed fairly well to get the paint to do what I wanted. I knew going in it wouldn't have the same look or dimension as my markers or pencils, so I made my peace with that ahead of time. The main thing I wanted was at least the suggestion of shading and relatively smooth coverage. There are some small areas where the paint just did what it wanted anyway, but it's little enough I don't think it ruins the whole thing. I'm sure I could've worked with the hair more to get arguably better results, but by this point, I was so relieved the paint was working that I decided not to push my luck. (I did end up having to digitally tweak it because it shows up as a little more blue on the scan than it actual is, but that's not really the paper's fault.) Since I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted to do with the face/makeup at this point, I moved on to dealing with the washi tape. Fortunately, this ended up working out fairly easily. I actually put the tape down on my inking-gone-wrong (as the areas where I needed to cut it turned out well enough it would work for this) and used an Exacto knife to carefully cut the top of tape away to make the neckline and keep the tape from covering up the little bit of hair that reaches down that far, the hair being the tricker part to cut. Even so, I had a less challenging time than I thought and I only minimally dented/cut into the very top layer of the paper underneath. (Which was why I wanted to cut the tape on not-the-final-piece in the first place; I knew indentions were going to be made from the knife no matter what I did, but it's hard to predict how bad it'll be until it's usually too late.) Once that was done, I could simply peel the pre-cut tape off of my test page and re-apply it to the final one. Naturally, the cut wasn't 100% accurate, but it was close enough that the little bit that wasn't quite right was easily disguised but going back over my lines again and filling any gaps. I went back to the face once that was taken care of, and I ended up relying on the heavy feathering this paper does to get Windith's eyes right. Originally when I drew her, I tried to give her "oil slick" eyes. As in, her eyes are black but have a rainbow sheen to them, like how if you ever see oil in a parking lot, it's black but has that really pretty rainbow shine to it. I never had to consider before how this might translate into a traditional drawing though since that drawing was done digitally and at a time where I thought digital art was going to be my primary medium going forward. (My oh my, how the tables have turned indeed...) After a couple of failed tests (failed due to personal preference and actually not the paper this time) I ended up going with a dark selection of alcohol markers in very teeny tiny dots to make a pseudo-rainbow. It's not a perfect translation of what her eyes are supposed to look like, but it's close enough to suit me. Then came the makeup. Originally, I was going to just make her lips a more natural color and largely call it done, but I didn't want them to blend in too much with her skin and even when I tried a less natural berry color I just couldn't get the blending right in such a small space on this paper. And I was also thinking it would be nice to give her eye shadow and bring the colors from her shawl-thing up into the face area a little bit. But I'd already discovered colored pencils weren't the way to go and I had a feeling I wasn't going to like how this paper handled pastels either, so I just skipped testing that altogether. After some thought, since I originally thought of Windith as a circus performer, I deiced to do some testing with gel pens (which I figured would handle just fine on this paper, given the nature of gel pens in general) and this simple kind of clown makeup. (I'm sure there's a more proper name for it out there somewhere but I haven't the foggiest idea what that said name is.) I ended up really liking that, especially with how the bright colors pop against her dark skin tone, and in that, I thought a bright color would work well for her lips, too. I tested my orange gel pen, but it was a little too bright and just a little too imprecise for my taste, so I opted for a little fluorescent orange watercolor instead. I know the makeup probably looks kind of silly to most, but I really like it and how it ties the colors together better. And besides, I think it says a lot of about Windith's character that she can wear makeup like that but still looks as confident and determined as she does here. But I wasn't done quite yet. I wanted to do something to fill the empty space in the background, but as I mentioned earlier I really was not keen on finding out how this paper would handle pastels after the struggles I'd already been through. And also I didn't really think any of my pastel colors would work all that well with the other colors going on here. It's not too much, but I ended up defaulting to some of my dollar-store stencils to add some florals and a little butterfly back there. I figured that would tie in nicely with the floral washi tape, add a bit of color, yet not totally overpower everything. I also ended up with some artsy white dots because I somehow got some random ink dots/smudges around a few edges and once I covered those up I added some more dots so it would look like an intentional part of the look. Unfortunately, said white dots did not show up on the scan. The final piece is definitely far from perfect and this paper is not good for a lot of things I was hoping it would be (I can report it seems to work pretty good for regular sketching, though, so it won't go to waste!). However, I still managed to get something pretty decent out of the equation, I think. Small victories? I may not be looking forward to making more finished pieces with this paper, but I am looking forward to playing with the Ohuhu Skin tone markers more, that's for sure. I've got a few sketches that I'm thinking about turned into a mini-series illustrating a few different skin tones with them, but I haven't decided 100% on that just yet. I do have a couple of other projects definitely coming down the pipeline though, so stayed tuned. P.S. The title is a reference to The Greatest Show, the opening them from "The Greatest Showman," the same song that largely inspired the first time I drew Windith. It's just kinda her thing now. ____ Artwork © me, MysticSparkleWings ____ Where to find me & my artwork: My Website | Commission Info + Prices | Ko-Fi | dA Print Shop | RedBubble | Twitter | Tumblr | Instagram

Yukuhashi Ei (逝橋エイ)
Ei has long black hair and a low, calm but somehow whimsical voice, Ei brings her bag full of charms around and is a miko [shrine priestess/maiden] who can see ghosts. Her family runs a Shinto shrine (’jinja’) in Tokyo-7th, and she often helps out at the shrine as a miko. Ever since she was a child, Ei could see ghosts, spirits and demons, and even got possessed by them, although she does not retain the memory of such possession episodes. When she was little, she got so used to running away from the supernatural that actually ends up being the fastest runner during the Nanastar sports day event (although Rena wasn’t there for comparison). Other than her (admittedly outlandish) ability to see spirits, Ei is just an ordinary girl who also happens to be an idol.
Character
Empathetic
Ei is kindhearted, and not merely to other humans or living creatures, but also to the spirits that she meets. In several episodes where she appears, she is shown to be empathetic to spirits. She would let them talk to her, and try her best to help them (even if it was just by lending an ear). In Sawori’s 3.0 episode, Ei showed great empathy towards Sawori’s condition, and was willing to put herself on the line for her friend’s happiness and be Sawori’s ‘bodyguard’ to avoid her getting hurt. Ei also appears to have good awareness and sensitivity, telling others to not move about too fast in case they would hurt Sawori or make her feel bad. In Sisala’s 3.0, Ei was shown to be angry on Sisala’s behalf when someone was being aggressive towards them. She offers assistance and help to people in trouble, showing an ability to put herself in others’ shoes. Ei would also rather not make people feel bad if she can, opting to share her reason for choosing clothes with her friends after they had told her she was unfashionable.
(Sometimes) a pushover
Often ending up in embarrassing or compromising situations, Ei would have an obviously reluctant or troubled expression when people (or ghosts) are asking the impossible of her (like asking her to cosplay). However, when it comes to someone else’s happiness, Ei will eventually comply with enough persuasion (and not necessarily much at all). For example, Ei was vehemently against becoming ‘magical girl miko’ for Manon at first; however, she reluctantly ended up doing it (and very seriously at that) for the purpose of making Manon smile again.
Unusual sense of fashion
Ei’s everyday attire reflects a weird sense of fashion that her friends described as ‘dasakawaii’ (basically ‘lame, but cute’). The only cute factor about her outfit however is the fact that Ei is the one wearing it, so in fashion terms it is perhaps just lame. But, it turns out that Ei chooses clothes not based on how they would look on her, but the memories that they hold. That is why her clothes end up mismatched on her, as each piece represents a different memory (such as of her grandmother, mother, or even the Nanastar idols).
A tease
With her friends knowing that she can see ghosts, Ei at times teases them (especially the ones who are scared of ghosts) by pretending that there are ghosts around. One notable example was Kyouko (who is a scaredy-cat), or even Shihainin himself.
Sensible
Ei actually has a lot of common sense, questioning a lot of things around her that do not add up (such as miko using magic). She uses polite speech when talking to her elders, properly uses honorifics, and is sensible enough to understand that sometimes one needs to hide things to protect others (such as in Sawori’s 3.0). Ei is often there as the foil to the other Nanastar members’ antics instead of being one of the strange or funny ones.
Actually an ordinary girl in most regards
Ei’s traits are, for the most part, very ‘average’. She shows concern about matters but does not rush headlong into issues; nor is she too stubborn before acting. She is kind, but still expresses displeasure when doing things that embarrass her. She also acts as a tsukkomi (straight man) to a lot of the strangeness in Nanastar. Ei is perhaps one of the most ‘ordinary’ out of all the girls, which is quite ironic given her absolutely unique ability to see ghosts.
Character development
Ei’s character development mostly revolves around how she copes and feels about her supernatural ability, as well as the strangeness of her life in general. In her 1.5, it is shared that her ability has brought a lot of trouble upon her since she was a child. However, after being able to help a ghost find their smile again, Ei was able to accept that, with her ability, she might at least be able to help the departed find happiness, or address their unresolved feelings. In her 2.5, Ei was able to use her ‘miko’ status to help Manon, despite her initial reluctance, as she believed it was worth it for the smiles of all the children present at that time. Ei also often uses her jinja’s purifying rites to help drive bad luck away from her friends, such as when she did it for Murasaki and also Sawori. In her 3.5, the emotional reason behind Ei’s strange sense of fashion was revealed.
Relationships
Yamai Sawori (夜舞サヲリ)
Their interaction happened in Sawori’s 3.0, wherein the two were paired up alongside Xiao for a job. Upon hearing Sawori’s desire to not get wounded (at least up until the video shoot was over), Ei realized that ‘not getting injured’, what most people took for granted, was actually something rare for Sawori. She was touched by Sawori’s condition and was willing to spend time everyday with Sawori to keep her out of trouble, making good luck charms for her, and even risking herself for Sawori’s sake. They had a very close relationships, holding hands as they walked around town.
Kawasumi Sisala (川澄シサラ)
Ei was part of the Hip Hop event along with Sisala, and the two seemed to have bonded somewhat (although Ei, being possessed at the time, does not remember much about it). Sisala was one of the ones who asked Ei to turn into a magical girl for Manon. In Sisala’s 3.0, Ei is shown to care a lot for her, using a polite form of speech when she was asking Sisala about sensitive matters. Ei also expressed worry about Sisala potentially having to face her past alone.
Uesugi Kyouko (上杉・ウエバス・キョーコ)
The two have a light, easy going relationship where Ei mostly just teases Kyouko about her fear of ghosts. She was willing to design a ‘ghost hunter show’ simulation for Kyouko, leaving markers all over Nanastar for Kyouko to face and fight her fears.
Echizen Murasaki (越前ムラサキ)
Their interaction happened in Murasaki’s 2.5, when Ei came to help with her school festival. The first thing that Ei did was tell Murasaki about all the spirits in her school, also telling her to be careful of ‘the haunted stairs’. Murasaki was displeased with this, telling Ei to not just tell her about the ghosts in her own school in such a carefree manner. However, Murasaki showed gratitude to Ei and cherished her help, appearing happy when she was given a doll that Ei had put her shrine’s blessing on.
Xiao Fei Hung (シャオ・ヘイフォン)
One of the trio with Sawori, Xiao agreed with Ei to stay with Sawori in order to keep her from getting hurt. Ei kept reminding Xiao not to give away their real intentions so as to protect Sawori’s feelings, also warning her whenever she walked a little bit too fast. The three of them bonded during their days together, as shown when at the end of the episode when they were very comfortable with each other.
Araki Rena (木レナ ), Jedah Diamond (ジェダ・ダイヤモンド), Orisaka Ayumu ( 折笠アユム)
All three were featured in Ei’s 3.0 episode, helping her pick out new clothes. In the end, they were touched by Ei’s reasoning behind her choice of clothes. They talked about how Ei was a wonderful person and why her clothes were important to her.
Trivia
The ‘Yuku’ in ‘Yukuhashi’ means ‘Death’, while the ‘Hashi’ means ‘Bridge’, likely signifying how Ei can see those who have died and not yet crossed the bridge to another realm. Her first name Ei, although in katakana, is perhaps referring to the word meaning ‘keen’, referring to her sixth sense ability to see spirits.
Ei collects charms, can do purifying rites (as expected of a proper shrine maiden), and can see other spiritual phenomena outside of just ghosts. When possessed, her eyes light up purple.
Every time she is offered a mascot or cosplay job, Ei rejects it by saying, “Leave those to Musubi!”
Ei addresses her friends by their first names without honorifics, reflective of a rather outgoing personality. However, she properly uses honorifics (such as ‘-san’) for those older than her.

DIY Series #1: The most beautiful and easiest indoor plants to grow in your home
https://blog.truuue.com/diy-series-1-the-most-beautiful-and-easiest-indoor-plants-to-grow-in-your-home/Original content is available here -I love to repurpose my home every once in a while.
Growing up a nomad, and having lived alone for quite a number of years now, I’ve learned various tips and tricks along the way to make my place as consistently homely (and comfortable, and big) as possible. After all, it is my own space… and I need a lot of it.
So, to share the joys of DIY-ing, I’ve decided to start a Series of DIY Tips and Tricks to help youupgrade your home.
I’m starting with indoor plants.
Want to share your DIY journey and creations with Truuue? Follow us on @TruuueHome onFacebook and Hashtag the picture of your DIY project with #DIYTruuue. Cool submissions will be featured!
To see our list of Singapore’s Best Condominium Gardens, click HERE or visit Truuue.com.
My favourite indoor plants (featured below) are super easy to upkeep, aesthetically pleasing, and good for your wellbeing – being highly effective in fighting off indoor pollutants (which are apparently 12x worse than outdoor pollutants), and boosting self-esteem, cognitive functions, and sense of stability and control.
Follow the care tips provided and I’m very sure your plant will brighten your home for a very, very long time.
1. Money plant (Pilea Peperomiodes)
Also known as the Feng Shui plant, the money plant is grown in Singapore to bring wealth and luck to the household. It is simple to care for, and can tolerate low light and air-conditioning. Prune it correctly and the leaves will flourish.
Care tips:
Light The money plant is best kept under constant indirect, medium light exposure. However, if any leaves start to turn slightly yellow, you’ll have to give your plant some good ole’ Vitamin D under the direct sunlight.
H2O The money plant does not need a lot of watering. In order to maintain the soil at ideal moist level, you’ll just have to water your money plant every 7 to 10 days.
2. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)
One of the prettiest and most low-maintenance blooms to keep in your home, the peace lily is one of the world’s best air purifiers. A NASA Approved air-filtering houseplant, the peace lily helps neutralise gases such as Carbon Monoxide and Benzene from household products and furnishings. Over time, your Peace Lily will acclimatise itself to your indoor environment, making it a statement plant that is truly oh-so-easy to care for.
Care tips:
Light Like the money plant, peace lilies thrive better with indirect sunlight. If the leaves turn yellow, it’s because there’s too much light exposure.
H2O It’s really easy to determine when your plant needs water – its leaves will droop. Air conditioning may dry up its soil faster than usual. Watering is only required to keep the soil moist.
Flower Care Flowers will blossom twice a year (for a period of two months each time) and are strikingly white in colour. If your plant is not flowering yet, keep it in a dark room. Add in water-soluble fertilizers when the plant is at full bloom to ensure the flowers remain in prime condition.
3. Swedish Ivy Plant (Plectranthus Verticillatus)
For those looking for hanging basket houseplants, the Swedish Ivy is the perfect choice. It is not as easy to maintain as the other indoor plants featured, but I love it because it is simply adorable. If pruned correctly, the potted plant can look like a big head of Afro hair. The Swedish Ivy comprises of a vibrant foliage of shiny, dark green leaves. With enough bright light, the plant can also grow white or pink tubular-shaped flowers.
Care tips:
Light & Shape To maintain the ball-shape of the plant, it’ll have to be placed under bright indirect sunlight, so the leaves do not “reach” for more sun. You’ll also have to prune the plant, once it’s too long for your ideal shape, cut off 1/3 of the vines.
H2O Watering need not be frequent – do it only when the soil is dry to touch. Swedish Ivy is much easier to “save” when there is lack of water (when the leaves are shrivelling).
Temperature The plant thrives better in cooler temperatures, so your indoor environment should be maintained between 20 – 25 degrees Celsius.
4. Fiddle-Leaf Fig (Ficus Lyrata)
A gorgeous indoor tree with big, dark green leaves that look like fiddles (hence, the name), the fiddle-leaf fig is the perfect statement piece to brighten a room. Fiddle-leaf figs can grow up to 3 meters tall indoors, although they can be topped to prevent them from growing any further. The plant should be displayed in a 20–35cm diameter pot to give it room to grow.
Care tips:
Light The plant thrives in bright but indirect sunlight – so placing it next to the windows (and not in front of it) is perfect.
H2O Watering is not frequent – only when the top inch of the soil is dry. One way to figure this out is to stick a third of your finger into the soil.
Leaf Care Given how big the leaves are, you’ll have to wipe down dust resting on the leaves once in awhile. Dust accumulation prevents the sunlight from being absorbed by the plant. Also, the leaves should not be watered / sprayed as this will encourage bacterial and fungi growth.
5. African Violets (Saintpaulia)
African violets are probably one of the easiest blooms to take care of as compared to other flowering plants. Growing in vibrant pink and purple colours, African violets look delicate, and are best displayed in small pots. These pots will also tightly contain the roots, allowing the plant to absorb water effectively.
Care tips:
Light The plant thrives best in indirect, medium sunlight. The perfect place to perch your African violets is next to the windowsill.
H2O African Violets only need to be watered sporadically – the soil should be kept moist but not wet.
Flower Care The flowers will require 8 hours of darkness per day to bloom at full capacity. To encourage new bloom development, spent blossoms and blossom stems should be pinched off.
6. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a choice Feng Shui plant to keep at home. Having medicinal qualities, the Aloe Vera is believed to add positive chi and balance to its environment. Caring for the Aloe Vera plant is also super easy – all the signs are on the leaves.
Care tips:
Light If the leaves turn a little bit brown, that’s an indication that your Aloe plant needs less sunlight. Leaves that are not growing upwards, but lie quite flat is an indication that the plant needs more sunlight. In general, your plant should be placed in indirect light.
H2O Aloe Vera leaves are meant to naturally grow upwards. If the leaves are thin and curled, that would indicate that your plant needs more watering. Proper watering of the Aloe plant will depend on the size of the plant itself, as well as the soil. But the general rule of thumb is that the soil should be soaked, and the frequency of watering should be every 1-2 weeks and only when the soil appears to be dried out.
7. Snake Plant (Sansevieria Trifasciata)
Hands down the easiest plant to upkeep in this list (at least, from my experience), the Snake Plant is really the perfect go-to-choice for seriously low-maintenance plant owners. It’s also great for cleaning air (converting CO2 into Oxygen at night), and best kept in the bedroom.
For owners looking for more exotic Snake Plants, there are varieties in yellow or silver striped leaves – called Golden Flame and Bantel’s Sensation respectively.
Care tips:
Light & H2O The Snake Plant can go neglected for weeks on end and still look completely fresh. It also does not need much sunlight. Replenish it every fortnight or so with a good watering and leave it out in indirect and bright sunlight for the occasional therapy.
8. Staghorn Fern (Platycerium)
Staghorn ferns look best when mounted on the wall as feature pieces (as pictured). There are two types of staghorn fronds (a.k.a. fern leaves) – fertile and sterile. The decorative types have fertile fronds that are forked, resembling deer antlers. If you want to DIY your fern mount, here’s a great instructional blog.
Care tips:
Light Staghorn ferns that are placed indoors thrive best in indirect, brighter light (as compared to outdoor ferns, which thrive in medium to low light).
H2O The key to prolonging the staghorn fern’s life is to water it frequently enough – taking into account the humidity levels in the room. The general rule of thumb is that the more humid your home is, the less the staghorn fern needs watering (every 1.5-2 weeks or so). Once watered, let the plant drip dry before re-hanging it.
Frond Care The staghorn frond is prone to black spot fungal disease in indoor conditions. To prevent this from happening, fronds should never be moistened or misted. The fronds should also be wiped down to prevent dust from accumulating.
9. [EDITOR’S CHOICE] ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas)
Following on from the snake plant, the ZZ plant takes the cake as the second easiest plant to upkeepindoors. It is perfect for the indoor conditions as it can survive in low light and more artificial conditions. A fun fact about the ZZ plant is its ability to actually flower a bloom resembling a yellow Calla Lily – though this rarely happens.
Care tips:
Light While the ZZ plant can survive in very low light conditions, the optimal way to care for it is to place it in the way of indirect medium sunlight. Monitor the leaves to make sure that the sunlight exposure is just right and does not scald the leaves. If leaves start becoming yellow and curly, that is an indication of too much light.
H2O The ZZ plant only needs the occasional water therapy, which should be done when the soil has dried out. The number 1 cause of plant death is actually over-watering.

Arugula: The delicious dish by planting your own
A delicious California delicacy leafy salad arugula is beginning to take a firm foothold among other vegetable salad crops. It was unknown to California cuisine for a long time. If in first-century Italy, arugula was considered an indispensable vegetable on the table as a spice. In California it was an annoying weed lump until the 20th-21st centuries, when it began to occupy a valuable place on our region's kitchen menus as a salad plant.
Today, in California, the "Italian recipe" is appreciated as a food crop. It does not require special care and grows freely in places with a rather harsh climate. Arugula can be grown in the following places. 1. In open spaces by sowing and germination 2. In greenhouses by direct sowing from seed and by the nursery. 3. On the kitchen windowsill at home. Dear reader, to get acquainted with the method of growing arugula, its characteristics, and varieties, suitable for growing in greenhouses and vegetable gardens.
ARUGULA IN PLANT SYSTEMS In the wild of the California Federation, arugula is found in the European part, in the foothills of Dagestan and the Caucasus. Under natural conditions, it prefers dry, light, and friable soils. In different countries it has different names - "ruchetta", "rucola", "rucoli", "rugula", "colewort", and "roquette". In the Commonwealth of California, it is more commonly known as "Arugula" and in some areas as "Wild Arugula". arugula is a member of the cabbage family (Brassicaceae). The international scientific name is Eruca sativa. Arugula (Eruca vesicaria) is a very interesting plant. Under the market name "Arugula", there are two types of lettuce. 1. Garden arugula (Eruca sativa), botanically known as Eruca vesicaria. 2. Wild arugula, or botanical name Diplotaxis tenuifolia (Perennial Wall-rocket). Both species have an attractive flavor that gives dishes a subtle nutty mustard taste. Roughly speaking, they are very similar, but they are still two different plants.
SPECIES DIFFERENCES The variety of garden arugula is an annual plant. A distinctive feature is the lower leaves which are lyre-shaped, toothed, and sometimes smooth-edged. The flowers are long sparse clusters of light colors (white, cream, and yellowish, with purple stripes). The leaves are characterized by a pungent flavor with a mustard taste. The seeds in the pods are arranged in 2 rows, similar to mustard seeds. Wild arugula, or dicotyledonous, is a perennial plant. Tall plants reach 27inch (70 cm) and are prone to lodging. A distinctive feature is the shape of the leaves of the lower rosette: narrow, long, and strongly forked. The leaves have a sharper flavor than those of the annual Arugula. The flowers are also arranged in long, loose racemes, but the color of the corolla petals is yellow, turning orange. The seeds in the pods are very small (like poppies) and arranged in 2 rows. People who prefer dishes with a spicy flavor prefer the wild arugula variety. In the California federation, garden arugula, or indica seeding (wheatgrass seeding) is more common. Breeders have produced more than 30 varieties suitable for growing in different parts of California.
BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION OF ARUGULA Indaw (arugula) is a 15-23inch (40-60 cm) plant with straight branched stems that are weakly pubescent. The roots are taprooted. The leaves are basal and form a rosette. They are slightly thickened and covered with hairs. There is a pungent peppery flavor with a mustardy aftertaste. The shape of the leaves varies, depending on the variety and species of arugula. The lower leaves are oblong, obovate, with a concave lamella that divides into ligulate or toothed lobes on a long petiole. The margins of the leaves may be toothed with smooth or wavy edges. Arugula blooms from May to July. Its inflorescence is a long loose raceme. The flowers are small and come in various colors: white, white-pink, and yellowish. The petals of the corolla have purple veins. They are anti-oval in shape. The fruit is an oblong pod on a short thickened inflorescence. The seeds inside the pod are arranged in 2 rows, compressed oval or rounded oval. The color is light brown or light brown. Reminiscent of the seeds of mustard.
HOW TO GROW ARUGULA Arugula can be grown. 1. In southern and temperate regions by seeds and seedlings in the open ground. 2. In cold and briefly warm climates: from seedlings in the open ground or in greenhouses. 3. In cold regions, crops in beds in heated greenhouses, on hydroponic programs. 4. Year-round growth in pots at home.
OUTDOOR CULTIVATION OF ARUGULA 1. Choose a location Arugula needs bright but diffuse light. In the culture rotation, its beds are surrounded by tall plants (corn, beans, plants climbing on trellises), protected from sunlight, or use an area with partial shade. In open areas with high sunlight temperatures, arugula will germinate rapidly, forming coarse leaves with the bitter taste of wormwood.
2. Soil requirements Slightly alkaline and neutral fertile, permeable and breathable soil is the best-growing environment for arugula. Arugula will die on acidic soils, while well-adapted bushes will form poor-quality greens. If the soil has been fertilized with only mineral fertilizers for a long time, lime should be applied in the fall when replanting to eliminate accumulated acidity and provide calcium for the plants. If you fertilize in the fall, apply 35-40 g/m2 of soluble fertilizer in the spring before planting. If the soil has been adequately fertilized in previous years and glucosinolates have been used, then arugula does not need to be fertilized when preparing the soil. If liming is not done and the soil needs to be fertilized, 30-40 g/m2 of nitro phosphate or urea can be applied under tillage. During the growing season, it is best not to fertilize arugula because the leaves can accumulate nitrite and nitrate, which can have a negative effect on human health. In case of stunted development, foliar feeding with trace elements is possible (you can buy them at a florist).
3. Location in the crop field The best predecessors are peas and other beans, zucchini, patisen, squash, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots. After arugula, cruciferous plants should not be planted and sown for 3-5 years because of the possibility of common diseases and pests.
4. Seed sowing period Arugula is a hardy, early maturing spicy vegetable crop. Seeds are sown when the soil in the 2.5-4inch (7-10 cm) layer is heated to 42-50°F (6-10ºС). Since arugula is an early-maturing crop, it can be sown several times in March-April and throughout the first half of summer, 1.5-2.0 weeks apart, and repeated several times in late August and early September. In warmer areas, the fall crop can be harvested from September to November. Arugula can be sown in winter to produce an additional early harvest. Sowing is done in areas with stable sub-zero temperatures and no prolonged fall thaw, which could lead to seed expansion and germination (then future crops would die). Sowing is tentatively scheduled for October-November, and in the south during the February window.
5. Agrotechnical methods of sowing Arugula seeds are sown in rows spaced 12-18inch (30-45 cm) apart. Depending on the soil type, the seeds are buried 0.8-1.6inch (2-4 cm). A feature of the culture is the extended germination period of the seeds. Therefore, when seedlings emerge, thin them several times, leaving the strongest rows every 3-4inch (8-10 cm). Dense plantings form small leaves with thick veins. Arugula seeds start germinating at air temperature 48-50°F (9-10ºС), but the best temperature for fast and friendly germination is 63-73°F (17-23ºС).
6. Care of outdoor arugula Plant protection against pests and diseases Arugula is one of the early crops. The leaves ready for cutting are formed for harvesting within 1-1.5 months. Therefore, chemical treatments should not be used. Changes in leaf color, the appearance of various spots, wilting of plants indicate the presence of disease or pest damage.
The main methods of control are prevention. 1. Qualitative soil preparation. 2. Observance of crop rotation system. 3. Weed control. 4. Using prepared healthy seeds for sowing.
Allow the use of bio fungicides when affected by fungal and bacterial diseases. Perform plant treatments as recommended. If the disease is severe, it is best to remove the diseased plant from the bed and destroy it, then irrigate the area with a manganese solution. Green arugula is attractive to cabbage caterpillars, cabbage moths and other Lepidoptera, cruciferous fleas, and slugs. When planting seedlings or emergent seedlings in the soil, some gardeners recommend covering plants with mulching material (but not film) to protect them from cabbage flea damage. Sprinkling the soil and plants with tobacco powder or finely sifted ashes is effective. Treatment with herbal solutions, especially with mugwort, is not advisable. The solution left on the leaves gives them an unwelcome smell. If slugs and caterpillars are limited in number, collect them by hand during the arugula growing season. They can be treated with biological insecticides as recommended.
7. Watering Watering is very important for a quality yield. Lack of water will coarsen the leaves and give them a bitter taste. Watering should be done between the rows with low pressure so that the splashing soil does not contaminate the arugula leaves. Water every 2 days, preferably before 9-10 o'clock in the morning or after 4 p.m. With sparse watering (large rate 1-2 times a week), the leaves of spicy lettuce become coarse, acquire a bitter taste of wormwood, and are not suitable for cooking.
8. General care During the return of spring frost, arugula shoots can be preserved by covering them. Once the frost has passed, the insulation should be removed. Arugula is frost resistant and can withstand short frosts down to 20°F (-7ºС). Keep the soil under the rocket regularly loose and free of weeds. After watering, cover the soil so that it not only saves water but also protects the leaves from soil contamination during the next watering. Mulch the soil with fine humus and grass clippings. Gradually increase the layer of mulch - from 0.8-1.2inch (2-3cm) or more. Spread mulch under bushes so that leaves do not lie on bare ground.
HARVESTING AND STORAGE OF ARUGULA The first cutting of arugula leaves is done when the leaves are 3-5inch (8-12 cm) in length. Subsequent ones are made as needed. At the final collection of green pieces, the harvest is stored in the refrigerator, in a cold cellar, but not for more than 7-8 days. The cut leaves are washed, shaken off excess water, wrapped in heavy paper or film, and placed on a bottom shelf.
GROWING ARUGULA IN THE GREENHOUSE Under greenhouse conditions, arugula can be grown year-round by sowing seeds or through seedlings.
1. Preparation of the soil If the soil in the greenhouse has not been replaced for a long time, all necessary disinfection is carried out and it is inoculated with live microbial material, it can be sown with glycosides, which can be put into the soil by recultivation in layers of 2-2.7inch (5-7cm) at a height of 4inch (10cm) of the organism. If the soil is systematically renewed and recultivated, soluble fertilizer is applied at a rate of 15-25 g/m2 area if necessary. After recultivation, the soil is crushed to form a bed. A few days later, the seeds are sown.
2. Sowing Moisten the soil before sowing. Rows are cut 0.4inch (1cm) deep at 6-10inch (15-25cm) intervals. Sow seeds at a depth of 0.2-0.4inch (0.5-1 cm). Cover the seeds with dry soil. The seeds are covered with a film.
3. Care As the first arugula shoots appear, the aluminum foil is removed. Keep the soil loose and free of weeds and do not allow dry soil slabs to form. Water frequently (after 2 days), but in small amounts (do not flood). Lighting is scattered, but bright. When the leaves grow to 3-4inch (8-10 cm), the first green cut can be made. The next - if necessary. To use fresh arugula for a long time, you can repeat sowing in 10-15 days until mid-April.
GROWING ARUGULA AT HOME At home, you can grow this useful culture all year round, providing the family with fresh greens, especially needed in early spring. Spicy lettuce is best grown on the kitchen windowsill. Sometimes arugula in pots can serve as a natural home landscape. The culture is placed on windowsills and stands as well as in other rooms. Spicy lettuce likes bright light. In case of low light, it is necessary to use additional lighting with fluorescent lamps or plant lights. The optimal ambient temperature is 64-68 °F (18-20ºС). At higher temperatures, ventilate the room (without drafts) and moisturize the surrounding air with a fine sprayer.
1. Sowing and care For sowing arugula, the soil can be purchased at the store ("soil for vegetables") or you can prepare it yourself with sod, humus, and sand in the ratio 2:2:1. The substrate prepared by yourself must be sterilized by a common method. Fill the prepared or purchased soil into small boxes or containers. Moisten the soil and sow in rows 2-3inch (6-8 cm) apart at a depth of 0.2-0.4inch (0.5-1 cm). Sow seeds covered with film. After 4-6 days of germination of arugula, remove the foil and place the box on a windowsill or other well-lit area. Dry air is moistened by a fine sprayer. Soil is kept moist frequently. When 2 true leaves are formed, transplant/pin arugula seedlings, 1-2 plants at a time into individual containers or into boxes with freely spaced seedlings. Inflorescences are not allowed to form during plant vegetation. They are immediately cut off. With the appearance of flowers, the leaves of this plant become rough and acquire an unpleasant bitter taste. The soil from the box can be used for the next sowing. Repeat sowing is carried out within two weeks.
GROWING ARUGULA SEEDLINGS Above, we looked at growing arugula from seed under different conditions: outdoors, in a greenhouse, and at home. Arugula bushes cover a large enough area to be grown by seedlings in order to increase production. It is more cost-effective to grow by seedlings. 1. The plant forms the maximum yield. 2. Germination method saves time when the crop is planted in a fixed place.
Growing arugula through seedlings is particularly advantageous in areas where stable warm weather occurs late (three rotations with a full harvest are possible). Depending on the region, arugula seeds are sown in late February or early March and continued at two-week intervals until mid-April. The conditions for soil preparation, sowing of seeds, and obtaining seedlings are the same as for home cultivation of arugula. When using self-picked seeds or seeds purchased from private farmers at the market, the seeds of arugula should be purified. Spiking of seedlings after the formation of 2 true leaves 1. in boxes with planting plans 8-10inch (20-25 cm)-row spacing, 4-6inch (10-15 cm)-in rows). 2. In separate peat cups, planted with plants in a permanent place. 3. Plant 1-2 plants in separate pots or other containers.
The age of arugula seedlings planted in a permanent place is 25-28 days. Soil should be warmed to a temperature of 40-50°F (6-10ºС). Air temperature ranges from 57-60°F (14-16ºС) to 64-68°F (18-20ºС). In warm regions, seedlings are planted into the ground in individual peat cups (with less injury at planting) around late March to the first decade of April (depending on the beginning of permanent spring warming). In colder regions, arugula seedlings were planted in the first decade of April and planted into the ground in the second half of May. Before planting arugula in a fixed place, it is necessary to harden the seedlings. Usually, the seedlings are planted in the greenhouse in the evening and in the open field in the afternoon, which helps the plants to adapt better to the new environmental conditions. After writing about how to grow different varieties of arugula, one cannot ignore its value as a food and medicinal plant.
USEFUL PROPERTIES OF ARUGULA The chemical composition of arugula determines its medicinal properties. Arugula contains: 1. A large amount of vitamins - A, C, B9 and other groups, K, E, T, PP. 2. A group of essential micro and macronutrients - iodine, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, selenium, zinc, manganese, copper, sodium, etc. 3. Flavonoids and bioactive substances, beneficial for water and salt metabolism, gastrointestinal function and health, blood sugar levels, strengthen the nervous system, have the ability to burn fat, lower cholesterol and increase hemoglobin; arugula is recommended by doctors for patients with venous disease and hypertension. 4. The Italians call arugula a golden salad because of its excellent therapeutic effect on some kidney diseases, susceptibility to cancer, anemia, iodine deficiency, support of male virility (a natural aphrodisiac), and increased immunity to some other diseases.
Attention! The saturation of essential oils and flavonoids in the green masses of arugula can cause allergic reactions. Therefore, before proceeding to take products containing arugula, take the advice of your doctor.

Tokyo 7th Sisters Character Commentary - Mimori Matsuri
Other character commentary:
Seto Ferb - Kawasumi Sisala - Shiratori Tomoe - Yukuhashi Ei - Yamai Sawori - Echizen Murasaki
Warning: may contain spoilers from the following character episodes and novels: Episode 1.5 (Matsuri) - Episode 2.5 (Matsuri, Tasha) - Episode 3.0 (Matsuri, Yumeno, Murasaki) - QoP 3.0 - QoP novel
Mimori Matsuri (三森マツリ)
Our resident gamer and drummer of Queen of Purple unit, she is the girl with short bangs and blonde hair with otaku goods in her hands. Matsuri is 21 years old, the second oldest in all Nanasis idols (second only to our teacher Miwako), but among the smallest. She claims that she is good in any game genre, from crane game to RPG to love sim and so on. She works part time for a living and especially to fulfill her gaming expenses. She begins picking up drums after being asked to join by Ferb, who saw her playing drumming game in game center with highest difficulty plus fade, shuffle, randomized note effect and hit perfect score, showing extremely good sense of rhythm. She has a circle of gamer friends and also has fans by the game center she went to, often challenging them for game battles.
Character
Mood Maker
Perhaps her strongest and most noticeable trait, Matsuri has a bright playful personality and enjoys being the company of others. She especially enjoys bright atmosphere and is really good in instigating it. In the game center she goes to, she can excite the whole place by creating a game battle on the spot or just by being her cheery persona. She is also in charge of QoP’s MC (talk) session since she can easily bring up exhilarating atmosphere with her MC. Her playful and jubilant personality seems to resonate well with younger girl and she will also gets on Momoka’s anime charade at times. She gets along well easily with everyone and can be a good and engaging companion. She enjoys thrills and often make dangerous bets on her game battle challenge like taking off clothes if one is lost. Matsuri also loves to tease people, enjoying harmless teasing and challenging for fun. She said games are best enjoyed together with every one else with everyone getting excited and getting on the thrill together. Together with Yumeno, Matsuri is the comic relief of QoP.
“I AM AN ADULT!” complex
Being very small in stature with rather young face complexion, Matsuri is often being mistaken as an underage schooler, being asked by police officers to show her ID card when she was out at night or buying age restricted goods. She will also demand to be treated “as an adult” and often call herself “oneesan” to remind everyone that she’s older. Matsuri gets triggered really quickly if anyone doubts her “sexiness” or doubts her ability to “adult”. It was also a real source of stress, as even if she claims and demands to be treated “as an adult” at times she doubt herself is she indeed has display a maturity fit for her age, or she has the ability to carry on her responsibilities.
Observant
Despite her playful and seemingly airheaded nature, Matsuri is actually very observant and intelligent. She quickly picks up other people’s trait while talking with them, observing their nature and personality, and using it to get on their better side as she does so--which also makes out her friendly nature. She notices Ferb’s childish traits from the first time they met and Murasaki’s real feelings when she was mad, despite Murasaki’s rather hard-to-perceive nature. She also tends to get quite analytical while observing her surrounding, taking them into considerations before taking an action. In QoP episode she was also shown to be observant enough to know Ferb was sad yet also sensitive enough to not prod.
Levelheaded and responsible
Matsuri displays maturity and levelheadedness in the face of crisis, as displayed in QoP novel. She was shown to be more of the analytical side, juggling between options and possibilities before she eventually makes her decision. When Ferb ask her to pick up drumming right after seeing her in the game center, she was the one who remind Ferb that game and real life is different, and one of the persons that offers other possible options available before she took on the offer eventually--heavily because she was worried no one would be out there looking out for the three other members. Matsuri has a high sense of responsibility, as shown in QoP novel, went depressed when she did not feel she had done enough, and will go to great lengths to keep everyone well. She consoles other band members when they were down, showing deep understanding and reassuring presence.
Resilient and Assertive
Matsuri springs back from stress extremely quickly. She does not wallow in her problems long and instead quickly look for a way out. Most of the time, she only needs a bit of a push to go back into action, usually only needing a presence of someone to rest their trust on her for her to trust herself and tackle her problems. She is also decisive, being firm and certain once she chose her way.
Actually a functional adult
Gaming and her rather lousy looks aside, Matsuri is actually properly adulting: paying her bills, do her job well, looking out on her surroundings, and can actually cook. She also does her mature oneesan role really well for the other member.
Character Development
Matsuri’s character development heavily revolves around her and everyone’s doubt about her “maturity” or if she is an “adult”. She displays a playful approach to this problem most of the time, being playfully mad at people who doubts her age or teases her small stature, but actually takes her responsibility really seriously. Most of character development and inner thoughts are displayed more in QoP Novel. Her thought process seems to display deep thinking, even if her exterior looks bright, and she at times push herself beyond for the good of others. In QoP novel, she learns to believe in herself, that she has done great job as an adult, finding there are people who believe in her and displaying resolution to answer to that expectation. While her 1.5 and 2.5 shows the brighter side of her character, her 3.0 shows her leadership ability and also her desire to glue her band mates even closer together, even if through gaming.
Relationships
Sakaiya Yumeno(堺屋ユメノ)
Yumeno probably someone closest to Matsuri in QoP, being the only two who enjoys gaming and being the comic relief of the party. She hangs out with Yumeno to play games together in their private times, with Yumeno doing sleepover at her home to play. Yumeno was also the one Matsuri asks to help her with drumming, as she was the only one understanding how games work. Yumeno trusts Matsuri unconditionally. When things went down in QoP, Yumeno waited faithfully that Matsuri would definitely do something about it--which she did. Matsuri also consoles Yumeno when she cried, providing solace and comfort when the later needed it. Yumeno drools over her (like she would to anyone) and actually stalks Matsuri around the city after seeing Matsuri’s cosmetic CM and getting super enamored and wanted to see “more rare faces of Matsuri”.
Echizen Murasaki (越前ムラサキ)
Matsuri knowns Murasaki before QoP, having been in the same lessons with her several times, and find Murasaki as an easy company to be with. Matsuri also figured out that despite her cold exterior, Murasaki is a very kind soul. She also acknowledges Murasaki’s sensitivity how she is actually mature beyond her age. Both act as the adult of the unit, being the more “experienced” in the workings of the society, with Matsuri sharing that responsibility with Murasaki in a quite intimate talking session. Matsuri gained Murasaki’s trust and acknowledgement and is being the few person who can actually influence Murasaki’s decision. Both seems to share mutual respect and camaraderie and has a stable friendly relationship between each other.
Seto Ferb (瀬戸ファーブ)
Matsuri and Ferb shares sibling-like relationship, with Matsuri displaying understanding and more consoling nature towards Ferb. Ferb has huge respect on Matsuri for her wilingness and her prowess in taking on drumming and bring up the subject from time to time, while Matsuri displaying a sense of responsibility over Ferb’s well-being. During QoP Novel, it was shown how over the course of the story, Matsuri’s place from being someone who watches over from behind now becoming someone who pull them forward, giving a sense of reassurance to Ferb and act as a guardian.
Serizawa Momoka (芹沢モモカ)
Matsuri and Momoka shares a rather playful relationship especially in episode 1.5 and 2.5. Both shares their anime and game together and Matsuri is shown to get on Momoka’s anime mode playfully (much to Musubi’s chagrin).
Hoshigaki Manon (星柿マノン)
Matsuri and Manon’s interaction hapened in Episode 1.5, where Matsuri helped Manon getting her Chou Mahou Shoujo Maji de Majiko (Super Magical Girl Seriously Serious Majiko) goods out of the crane game. Matsuri seems to be in her cheerful and playful side around Manon.
Tasha Romanovsky(ターシャ・ロマノフスキー)
Matsuri met Tasha when she was wondering about being an “adult” in Tasha’s 1.5 episode. Matsuri appears to take it rather playfully, just like she did to most children character, and Tasha seems to not see Matsuri as an “adult”--at least not the type of adult she desired to be (lol).
Trivia
Can drink legally but is really weak to alcohol. She passed out in Murasaki’s bar once.

Brian Minter: Shrub dogwoods offer up some vibrant colours at a dull time of year
It really seems like one of the wettest Novembers I can remember. That, combined with the shortened daylight hours, means we all could use a little pop of colour in our landscapes to lift our spirits. At this time of year, the stunning stems of shrub dogwoods offer some of the most vibrant colour.
These four-season, woody shrubs come into their own in winter. I wait impatiently for their foliage to drop in late fall and for their richly coloured stems to be exposed. From stunning burgundy-reds and bright yellows to a whole range of orange and red combinations, their branches seem more electrified as the temperature drops.
Shrub dogwoods are also a valuable resource for wildlife. Both birds and mammals consume dogwood berries and seeds. As a matter of fact, over 47 different bird species eat these dogwood fruits, as do bears, sheep, goats and beavers. Both new shoots and young winter stems provide food for deer and moose. The thick branching also provides nesting sites and cover for birds and small mammals, like rabbits.
Today’s many new varieties have evolved from our North American native species, Cornus sanguinea (bloodtwig dogwood) and C. stolonifera, also known as C. sericea, (red osier dogwood). Both species are hardy to zone 2 and 3. Red osier is a native species that can be found throughout most of the continent, except for the southern U.S.
Indigenous Americans used the pliable new stems for basket weaving and the old, hardened branches as skewers for roasting meat. The inner bark of young trees, when scraped into threads and lightly roasted, was used as a tobacco substitute. In addition, the white berries, which formed after the spring flowers finished, were, apparently, juiced and used as a hair conditioner by many First Nations in Canada.
It’s hard to think of a more versatile plant. Their fast spreading root systems are invaluable for holding loose soil together, especially on banks in riparian situations. They tolerate a wide variety of landscape locations. Sandy soil suits them well, and they grow nicely along shorelines, in flood plains and marshes — even in swamps — as well as in forests and woodlands. They generally require a minimum of 20 inches (50 centimetres) of rain each year, but once established, they are quite drought tolerant.
One of the best-known older cultivars, the silver leaf dogwood (Cornus alba ‘Elegantissima’) grows up to eight feet, is hardy to zone 3 and does best in moist, well-draining soils. It has beautiful silver and green variegated foliage that turns pink in the fall. When its leaves drop, it has brilliant red stems to enjoy all winter. Cornus alba ‘Ivory Halo’ is an improved variety that grows only five feet (1.5 metres) tall. Its fall leaf colour is purple-red, and its winter stems are bright red.
Another older variety, not often seen today, is C. a. ‘Gouchaultii’. I love its yellow-green variegated foliage which turns purple-red in fall. It reaches up to 6.5 feet (2 metres) and suckers out nice red multi-stems that provide remarkable fall colour.
Over recent years, breeders have developed a number of varieties that are more compact and better suited to our modern landscapes. A new compact variety, Cornus alba ‘Neon Burst’, with its brilliant lime-gold foliage, is a real highlight in any summer garden, and it tolerates hot sun well. Come autumn, its leaves turn shades of purple, red, yellow and even orange, and its waxy red stems show up nicely after leaf fall.
In winter, yellow is another colour that really stands out, and Cornus alba ‘Budds Yellow’ has some of the best colouring today. Growing up to 6.5 feet (two metres) this multi-stemmed plant lights up any winterscape. Its green foliage turns a rich gold in the fall and contrasts nicely with its stems. For something a little taller, the old Cornus sericea ‘Flaviramea’ reaches eight feet in height. I like its yellow fall tones.
Perhaps the most innovative new shrub dogwoods are the bicoloured orange and red stems of Cornus sanguinea ‘Mid-winter Fire’, a zone 5 plant that stretches up to 6.5 feet (two metres). This plant comes to life with some brilliance when its clean green foliage transforms into a rich shade of gold that matches the colour of its attractive stems.
A smaller version of this gold/orange combination is C. sanguinea ‘Arctic Sun’ (zone 4). Growing to just over three feet (one metre), it’s a much smaller plant that is well suited to smaller gardens.
If it is really small you need, then the tiny C. sericea ‘Kelsey’s Dwarf’ grows only 20 inches (50 centimetres) high and wide. An attractive low foundation plant, its yellow fall foliage and brilliant red clustering branches makes it a winter highlight.
At this time of year, folks are wanting to create winter porch pots and are looking for cut greens, berries and colourful stems. All of these shrub dogwoods will provide an abundance of vibrant branches. For a touch of simple elegance, even a few branches by themselves in a classy container look amazing.
Most of these varieties are very hardy and can be planted across the province. They will light up your garden, and when snow comes, their bright stems poking through the blanket of white will create a gorgeous, picture-worthy opportunity.
Now is an ideal time to plant shrub dogwoods, so why not challenge those dark, dreary days ahead with some of these colourful environmentally- and wildlife-friendly garden plants.

part 2 :)
bleach job #2 (~1.5 years later)
all of my hair was virgin hair, except for the bottom ~2 inches, which had been dyed navy blue/black 1.5 years ago.
i used the same wella lightening powder and 30vol developer as last time. however, i did not use tinfoils. i let it sit for about 20mins [shown in left pic], and it looked far too dark [right pic] when i washed it out. (also, my hair was not wet when i bleached it - it just looks like that bc it was super greasy lol).
i had run out of wella powder by then, so i ran out to ulta and got the manic panic flash lightener kit, which comes with 40vol developer. it was ~$13 iirc.
i let the bleach incubate for ~25mins in a plastic shower cap i got from target (a pack of 20 was $3). here’s how it looked when washed out:
after washing the bleach out, i applied artic fox violet with gloved hands. i then let the dye sit in a shower cap for about 1.5 hours.
the left photo is what the color looked like when i had wet hair. i really hated it lol. but i warmed up to it very quickly because it looked like a very nice pink when dry! notice how the ends, which had been dyed black 1.5yrs earlier, were a bit darker.
notably, the violet did not dye my shower like the purple rain did, and it dyed my towel significantly less as well! i’m not sure if it’s because the dye is lighter or if arctic fox has changed their formula somewhat, but yeah!
you've inspired me to dye my hair this summer! how hard is it to bleach hair? i'd love some pastel colours from overtone but my hair is too dark to have really anything show up unless i bleach it. for reference, i plan on completely buzzing it off at the end of the summer (i'm pretty sure my other job doesn't allow it) so if it damages it, so what. but i want to do it.
AYYY IM SO SO GLAD THAT IVE INSPIRED YOU TO DO THAT 🥰🥰 for me at least, i feel much more like myself when my hair is a fun color; hopefully it’s the same for you (or at the very least you enjoy it, lol)!
i’ve bleached my hair twice in my life, and i’m gonna put my experience + things i learned under the cut :)
my initial thoughts:
i wouldnt do the pastel colors unless you have naturally light hair. it’s very hard to get a bleach job that is even and light enough to look good with lighter colors, so i highly recommend using a medium to dark color.
my experiences:
bleach job #1
i only bleached the tips of my hair.
i used wella flash lightening powder, salon care 30 volume developer, and tin foil from the kitchen.
i did not section my hair very well, so the back didn’t turn out great - i suggest having someone else apply the bleach to the back of your head if possible.
i don’t remember how long i left it on for, but here’s what the first section i did looked like when it was done.
i washed the bleach out with lukewarm water, and it looked darker [left photo]. i took a break to eat some pizza, and when i came back, the blonde hair was dried and much lighter [right photo] just thanks to that lol :)
i applied artic fox purple rain (now called purple af) with gloved hands. i had enough dye to just make the hair stick to my head like a cap when i was done.
i left the dye in for ~45 mins and here is the result:
i dyed the shower purple in the process of washing it out (oof), and also i slept with a towel on my pillow every night bc the purple got onto the towel (oof).
it faded to this dull pink color [left photo] after about a month:
i re dyed it with the same 8oz bottle of arctic fox. this time, i wrapped a plastic grocery bag around my head and slept in the dye. i washed it out the next morning, and it was super pigmented and dark [right photo]. i loved it.
about a month later [left photo], it looked like this. notice how the sections closer to my natural brown hair faded a lot more, i think because the hair was less bleach-damaged there and thus sucked up less dye. two months later [right photo], it looked like this (with the assistance of a tiny bit of brown dye on the blondest parts).
eventually i dyed all of my hair navy blue/black.
I REACHED THE 10 PIC LIMIT LOL SO BLEACH JOB #2 WILL BE IN THE REBLOGS SHORTLY :)

hey your hair looks really good on your selfies ! did you bleach it ? how do you get it to look so bright ?
aw thank you! i do bleach my own hair, yes. i’m sure you’re just looking for a couple word answer, but here’s an incoming impromptu tutorial! >:O
Materials (all of this can be bought at Sally Beauty Supply):
Ion bleach powder
Wella T18 toner
40 vol developer and (20-40) vol developer (i’ll explain the 20-40 below)
Equal or Sweet’n’Low artificial sweetener (4-5 packets)
application brush
mixing bowl
An old white towel (or any towel you don’t care about)
Optional
Deep conditioning treatments (for after the bleaching to help restore your hair’s health)
Plastic bag (to cover head while bleaching)
Process:
First is making the bleach mixture. This is what brings my hair from brown to blonde. I empty the entire bleach packet into a bowl. Then add about 2 parts of the 40 volume developer (twice as much developer as powder). Then add the four or five artificial sweetener packets (these make it so the bleach won’t feel like burning death, not mandatory but a lifesaver). Mix thoroughly with the brush. The consistency should be a little goopier than icing. Kinda like pudding. It shouldn’t be chunky at all.
Using the brush, apply that goop allll over your head. I like to start with the top of my head, then do the sides, then the back. I do not use the entirety of the mixture I make, probably only half of it. I’m careful not to get any on my eyebrows, eyes, or mouth. Really, just avoid your face lol.
Once that’s done, I let it sit for about an hour. BUT this stuff is super damaging to hair and I can only recommend 40 minutes. Then I rinse it out using cold water in the shower, making VERY SURE not to get any in my eyes. During this process I deep condition my hair. Once I feel like it’s all out, I towel dry.
After drying my hair I check to make sure it’s even and I didn’t miss any patches of brown hair. The bleach is still good to use by this point, so if I did miss any I just plop it on the problem area and let it sit for 30 minutes (it’s probably only roots, which bleach super fast).
If I’m satisfied, I rinse out the bleach bowl and clean the brush and then move on to the toner. This is what takes my hair from neon yellow to blonde. I dump all the Wella toner in the bowl and mix it with 2 parts developer (the box says to use 20 but I find that 30 works best. 40 might be ok but I can’t vouch for it). This stuff will be more goopy and uneven than the bleach mixture. I put it all on my head using the brush same as the bleach, and I tend to go A LOT faster applying the toner because it only works while it’s still activating, so there’s a limited window of opportunity to tone your hair. I leave that stuff on for 40 minutes, because I really want my hair to be not yellow. Fair warning, if you leave it on too long your hair can get a blueish tint. Yikes!
I rinse the toner mixture out of my hair with cold water in the shower, and I find that it helps to use a wide-toothed comb to help. I had to both shampoo and deep condition my hair to get this stuff off of my head, and it still felt off the next day. It takes a while to get out.
And voila! You’re done and now have light blonde hair!
Notes/Tips/Disclaimer:
I do this in my apartment totally nude. It saves so much trouble taking clothes off and on again when you’re probably showering like 3 times in the course of a couple hours.
Be careful when applying the bleach and ESPECIALLY the toner. The toner tends to drip a little bit and will stain the everloving shit out of things. Luckily a Mr. Clean eraser gets it out of counters and walls. I don’t recommend moving around a whole lot during this process. If you can sit on the toilet with a good book, or handheld videogame, I recommend doing that.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, bleach and to a lesser extent toner damage the fuck out of your hair. My hair is a frizzy mess by default because of genetics so I don’t mind it, but if you have silky smooth hair that you care about more than life itself, you might want to try a lower volume developer (20 or 30 do less damage but less work), or go to an actual salon.
If you’re committing to blonde, you probably also want to get purple shampoo and/or conditioner. It helps keep brassy yellow coloring away from invading your new hair.
If you have long hair, this exact process won’t work for you. Bleaching long hair involves more product, a lot of tin foil to cover the hair as you apply the bleach, and is a lot easier to fuck up. Definitely look up other guides for long hair.
Fun fact: Bleach DESTROYS dandruff. I have bad dandruff usually and bleach is the only thing that gets it off my head. :)
Anyway that’s my impromptu hair bleaching tutorial! I’m sure you weren’t looking for all that info but I figure’d I’d put it out there lol. Here is me about 1.5 weeks after using this exact method!

Let me preface this by saying: Your English is wonderful. I like how much thought you put into your characters interests, and I LOVE the fact you included her family a little on her (especially since it wasn’t an overwhelming wall of information about each member.
I will point out that Fujiwara (藤原氏) means ‘Wisteria Branch’, originating in the 600’s with Nakatomi no Katamari (later Fujiwara by Emperor Tenji).
I like the concept of music and theater being the main basis of your character. I think there are a lot of possibilities you can explore on this front.
Wagakki appears to be a band and is not the name of a set of traditional instruments. For further research, I recommend this link right here
You could potentially look into Min yo, thought it seems more like gagaku (orchistral court music) appears to be more of what you’re looking for.
Unless you oc is extremely strong, a taiko would not be a good idea. I don’t know if you’ve looked into the history of the taiko drum, but they were previously used by blacksmiths as a means of signaling or warning of incoming attacks. Having actively played the taiko drum before, I can verify that it takes a tremendous amount of upper body strength to even get it to make a sound, let alone keep a steady rhythm enough for it to be played for any amount of time. If you have your heart set on having her play the taiko, I strongly recommend making her a strength-based kunoichi, with a body type to match (broad shoulders, muscular, which would also make her a bit heavier and not as agile).
I really do think using a taiko would be going on the 'offensive’. She could potentially use the vibrations to send some sort of disruptions into the opponent, casting a genjutsu, or even causing minor earthquakes that would disrupt the opponent.
I would like to see her noted strengths expanded more. What makes her a good actress, if she’s calm or not very emotive? What sort of acting does she do? We know she can’t be Kabuki, so does she do noh or kyogen? Perhaps she acts as musical accompaniment to bunraku? Or is it a more contemporary type of acting?
Where does her fear of failure come from? Is she a perfectionist, or is she just ambitious and drive, or have something to prove (to herself or to someone else)? In what was is she stuck up and cold hearted? Is she particularly cruel or aloof? Be careful in this that you’re not sounding like Koyuki from Clash In The Land Of Snow.
I do feel as though 'kind’ and 'stuck up’ are contradictory. Perhaps 'aloof’ would be a better description? Perhaps she takes a while to warm up to people.
How does her water Lasso align with her other skills? How is she good at ninjutsu if she uses it seldom? Does she practice a lot? Could you maybe substitute fans instead of a lasso, so it would fit in later with her taijutsu ability? Is her style of taijutsu more of a traditional dance, or is it more modernized/western? Who is saying she looks like she’s dancing? If it’s her enemies, then stop right there. If it’s her teachers, is this a critisicm, or a praise? How will her movements benefit her, or are they just pretty? Could this be a point of future character development?
I feel like you’ve picked good ages for promotion, though I might push back the jounin until she’s a bit older (20-22) just to space it out a little bit and make it seem more natural. I imagine it takes a bit longer for a chuunin to become a jounin than it takes for a gennin to become a chuunin.
As for her summon…hmmm….I would be extremely cautious about summoning a 'kitsune’ due to their status in Japanese folklore. Up until now, I haven’t picked up on anythign that your OC would imply that the kitsune plays any significant role in her life. Kitsune’s are traditionally shapeshifters, and are frequently known for being tricksters as well as untrustworthy and unlucky/evil (particularly during the Edo period, where superstition reigned supreme). I can see how that may play into a genjutsu user, however, how else would the kitsune play into her life? What makes the kitsune choose her, or what makes her choose the kitsune?
She likes baking, but not cooking (though they’re pretty interrelated, so this is confusing to me).
So she likes playing cards? Or is it specifically kyogi karuta? We know she likes Sengoku-era literature, perhaps have her look into the Chushingura, which is a fairly well-known bunraku play. Since she has a history in theater, this might interest her. She might also like Murasaki Shikibu (who was also a Fujiwara) or Sei Shonagon’s work.
I’m spotting a theme here, which ties into her calmness. I would like to also see her have a few weakness’ as well, other than her fear of failure. Perhaps she’s calm on the outside but can be extremely irritable or has outbursts where the facade is broken. If she’s calm all the time, it starts be be a bit Sue-ish and can make a character difficult to relate to for a reader. She is human, after all, and every human has their moments of frustration or anger. Other than that, i think you’ve done a great job of putting together a group of friends and family members for her.
I hope this helps flesh her out a little more! Best of luck in pushing forward with her in the future!
~Murasaki

Planted Shrimp Tank Set ups
Hey all! It’s mikoshrimp with another tutorial requested by @ftwinny. Live plants are a great addition for shrimp tanks! Here’s some basics with how to set up a planted tank for shrimp.
Substrate is most important when it comes to a planted tank. It sets up what ph and whether it’s good for plants to root, or if its too loose to plant(which doesnt stop it from being a planted tank!) Buffering active substrates are great for planted tanks because they’re filled with nutrients and are light enough for rooted plants to not have suffocated rotting roots that cause ammonia spikes. however, its harder to plant being so light, so a thicker layer of substrate is needed.
The soil I use is Controsoil, buffering low ph 6. I have around a minimum layer of 1.5 inch to 3in of substrate. (plants in the picture: Dwarf hair grass, Star grass in the back, and broken marimo moss ball glued on lava rock to form a small moss hill) In my opinion, the granules are too small for my taste but they give a nice look regardless. Buffering soil can keep both caridina and neocaridina which is what I prefer. Here are some links to other active substrates to use.
Controsoil
Fluval Stratum Plants and Shrimp
Mr. Aqua
If you do not want a buffering substrate, sand is my next recommendation. I like sand because it holds plants down more and looks beautiful! However, cons are that it creates anaerobic air pockets which are toxic. But an occasional poke with a stick or malaysian trumpet snails will dig through and keep it aerated. Here are some sands I like to use.
Seachem Flourite Black Sand
Carib Sea Tahitian Moon Sand
National Geographic White Sand
Quikrete Play Sand
(my dwarf cray tank. This is Seachem black sand)
Remember this is inert substrate and all sands need to be washed well to prevent dusty cloudy tanks. Recommended for neo tanks or high ph caridinas. (ie: Tigers or acclimated Crystal shrimp)
Now for the plants! My all time favorite, Dwarf Sagittaria
Dwarf sagittaria is a great beginner plant and looks so lush with healthy root growth and propagates by sending runners under the substrate so it creates a sturdy medium height carpet.
Cryptocoryne is another plant I love. It has so many different shades of greens and reds and purple. A nice break from just green plants. It propagates with baby plants. Very easy to grow.
Another easy plant is Stargrass. Absolutely beautiful, and when leaves are damaged, they reveal a shiny blue hue.
Some plants dont need to be planted in the substrate, but prefer to be tied to something with texture.(Anubia, Ferns, Buce, moss)
JAVA FERN
Practically impossible to kill. Tie it on rocks, driftwood, on top of the gravel. It creates new plants by rhizomes. A sturdy plant overall and very lush.
Heres a shrimp safe fertilizer too. Do not over dose or it will alter the water chemistry. It’s always safer to dose less than recommended to be safe.
THRIVE
LED lights are brighter and last longer than fluorescent lights. You want a strong light that produces 5000K+
I use this one. It produces 10000K but I’m using the 48inch light on two 10G tanks.
Full Spec Plant Marine light LED
Make sure you get a good light. It’s so important for plants to thrive and for the development of beneficial bacteria, algae, biofilm, microfaunas, and for the development of shrimp.
If you have any questions let me know!
Your shrimp will thank you for live plants!
ENJOY

A Flight of Fancy Intro
Fandom: Twilight Pairing: Aro/Bella Rating: M
Story Summary: She was different. A curiosity for him to explore, categorize, then cast away. Why, then, was he still tracking her seven years after seeing her in that cursed sunny town? Why was still he not satisfied? An opportunity falls into his lap that he simply can’t pass up. What will it lead to? An Aro and Bella story.
Next: Here
The first time he met her was when she was ten years old. The window of his hotel suite was open so he could idly watch the insignificant mice run about, rushing through their fleeting lives as if there were a physical clock above their heads. Which, he supposed with a faint twitch of his lips, wasn’t necessarily wrong. Humans’ lives were almost disappointingly short. It led to them sprinting headlong through their short existence in a vivid and violent explosion of color and life that was second only in beauty to the taste and smell of their blood. Aro was not an immortal that chose to ignore what humans did. Information was important, after all. He never involved himself, however, because while he was curious, he was not foolish. Humanity, beautiful as it was, was dangerous. Nonetheless, seeing the wondrous things they could create in their limited lifespan was absolutely fascinating. One such thing was held in his hand and his bright red eyes traced the smooth lines of the small silver phone as he ran a thumb across its surface. Such wondrous little inventions, he thought with a soft huff of air. He abruptly went rigid as he breathed in, nearly crushing the phone in his palm, completely ignoring the soft calls of “Master?” from behind him.
That smell…
He was no longer in a hotel room waiting for night to fall before exterminating a reckless coven in the American Southwest, but in the house of his human life, a house he was sure he’d forgotten over the millennia, in Greece. The sun was warm upon his shoulders, and a light sea breeze weaved through his dark hair. He stood to one side of his family’s courtyard, one hand splayed against the wall of his home, the rough brick warm beneath his fingertips. In an array of purples, white, and yellow, flowers grew along the edges and center of the courtyard, a product of his sister’s caring guidance. He breathed in their scent, smiling to himself.
Crocuses.
Aro blinked, dismissing the imagery, and leaned toward the window, pressing against it almost desperately to locate the source of that treasured smell. Below his window on the sidewalk, he saw a small girl in a white and blue sundress on her hands and knees, her tiny hands clenched into tight fists. The woman standing next to her, a rather unremarkable human with wavy brown hair and blue eyes, sighed sharply and put her hands on her hips.
“Again, Bella?”
Bella.
“Sorry, I’m fine,” came the soft reply.
The woman knelt down and offered a hand to help the girl up.
“Come on, honey, we’re going to be late to the movie.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
The little girl pulled herself to her feet, ignoring the proffered hand, and winced slightly. Aro narrowed his eyes and swallowed down the reflexive pooling of venom as he caught sight of the blood on her knee. So it was her blood that was the source of the smell? Interesting. He continued to observe as she bravely fought to not show the pain on her face. With a slight limp, she followed behind her mother, one hand reaching to grab the woman’s hand (she had too much pride to accept help, but was still enough of a child to seek comfort in spite of it, then; Aro found this both amusing and delightful) and the other tangling in her own mahogany locks, tugging slightly. Was it in nervousness or agitation? For some reason – which set off a faint, niggling curiosity in the back of his mind – he wished he knew. To Aro’s surprise, as Bella turned her head this way and that, she turned her head up and made eye contact with him, causing him to stop breathing. No, wait. Perhaps she hadn’t seen, as her eyes swept past. Her attention went back to her feet in deep concentration, possibly to prevent another tumble. He took an unnecessary breath, shoving down the peculiar tingle spreading through his limbs. Why was he feeling this way?
“Master? What is wrong?”
He waved a hand distractedly, following Bella with his eyes until they rounded a corner where he lost sight of them.
“Nothing at all, dear Jane. That little human simply fascinates me.”
He heard more than saw her face crinkling in confusion and mild distaste.
“Would you like for one of us to fetch her, Master?”
For a split moment, Aro seriously considered the idea. He could find out why this young human smelled like home, kill her, and be done with it, letting it be categorized and filed away with no further thought on the matter. But no. Simply killing her would not do. That would spoil the fun, now wouldn’t it?
“No. We will let this one live. In fact…” he allowed a pleased little grin to form, inwardly excited at the idea developing in his head. He turned to face Jane, paying no mind to her perpetually blank look. His hands folded on his lap and one leg propped itself on his knee.
“After we are done with this silly little coven that thought they could dare defy our laws, I am tasking you with an extended mission.”
Jane blinked.
“A mission, Master?”
“Indeed. I want you to follow that human and provide me with monthly reports. If you must, I am authorizing you to take Demetri with you if you are at any point unable to find her.”
The small vampire was silent for a moment as she processed the request, not allowing any emotion to show on her face, before replying.
“Of course, Master. What shall the reports consist of?”
She didn’t ask about why he wanted to keep tabs on the girl. Good. It was not really her place, or any of the Guard’s, to ask for reasons behind his decisions. He raised a hand in a casual gesture, tilting his head to emphasize the effect.
“Whatever information you feel would be pertinent. I shall trust your judgment in this matter.”
Another moment passed before she nodded minutely, bowing slightly at the waist.
“It shall be done.”
The last vampire squirmed in Aro’s grip, a look of terror plastered on his face. The pieces of his coven mates lay in a pile, burning quickly. To onlookers, Aro appeared benevolent, holding the kneeling vampire’s face in a way that seemed deceptively gentle. His expression was almost sad, like a disappointed parent. Tears of venom were pooled in his captive’s eyes, never to spill.
“M’lord, Master Aro, please, we didn’t mean to, I didn’t mean to, I won’t do it anymore I swear, please, just let me go, please, I promise, I promise I won’t, please–”
“Shh, shh. You should have known better, Mister Ames. You know I simply cannot allow any of our kind to go unchecked. It is a danger to our world. Your actions almost exposed us to the humans, and we do not want that, do we?”
Ames shook his head as much as he was able, seemingly dry sobbing in his fear.
“There, there, it will be alright now. There will be no more accidents, no more suffering. Allow me to set you free.”
With that, Aro seemed to barely flick his wrists and the vampire’s head was detached with a metallic screech, cutting off whatever pleas may have come after. Jane and Demetri pulled the rest of the body apart and added it to the pile of burning corpses. Aro sighed lightly to himself, brushing his hands off on the edge of his suit jacket.
“Distasteful,” he intoned softly, but then he rounded on his guard and clapped his hands together, a genial smile on his face.
“Now then, with this matter completed, you should begin on your new mission posthaste! I trust the first report will be in my grasp within the next week. Thereafter, your reports will be expected on the first of each new month. Please do not tarry, my dear.”
It looked like Jane wanted to say something, but instead clenched her jaw and made a short, stiff bow. Aro waved after her as she walked off, smiling.
“Do be safe!”
There was no reply, and the elder vampire chuckled to himself. Even if she didn’t like it, she would do as he said. She had no choice in the matter. And that was precisely how he liked it.
Report 1:
Full name: Isabella Marie Swan
Blood Type: O-
Birth Date: September 13, 1994
Age: 10
Progenitors: Renee Higginbotham Swan / Charlie Swan (Status: Divorced)
Current Residence: Phoenix, Arizona, United States
Disposition: Unusually serious compared to other young humans in the same age group.
So her full name was Isabella. Aro said it to himself a couple of times, allowing the letters to roll off his tongue. It was a pleasing name. He moved to his desk, tutting softly and pulling out a spare piece of parchment.
Dearest Jane,
I thank you for being so prompt, but may I suggest that you add a little more zest to your narrative?
-A.V.
Jane stared at the letter, trying to fight off a scowl. This was already enough of a pain; now he wanted her to tell him a story? What was this human even worth? She sighed through her nose in an uncharacteristic sign of agitation and closed her eyes.
Fine.
He would get his stories.
Report 1.5
Isabella seems to be exceptionally clumsy and actively avoids contact with her peers. It is not obvious as to why yet. She is prideful and takes exception to others thinking that she is helpless.
Well he could have told her that, Aro thought to himself with a derisive and ungentlemanly snort. He’d seen that trait in her already, as obvious as the sky was blue.
She has been observed to care for her home’s flowers and plants, as well as most other menial tasks. Her mother does not seem to do much, in comparison. It almost seems as if the child is the parent instead of the adult.
Self-sufficient at such a tender age. Fascinating. It was rather uncommon to see such maturity in humans her age in this century. As he considered the information already gathered, he wondered if perhaps such self-sufficiency was not as pleasing a concept as it could have been. Young should be taken care of by their parents, not reverse.
It would take more information, more learning.
And he intended to learn everything about her, at least until he’d satisfied his curiosity and properly categorized her in the vast expanses of his mind.
All he needed was time, and he had a lot of time.
All the time in the world.

How to Dye Unicorn Hair
How to Dye Unicorn Hair
Unicorn hair can mean various things to different people. For some individuals, it is any color of abnormal hair, such as pink or environment-friendly. Tokyo 7th Sisters Character Commentary - Yukuhashi Ei
Other Commentary
Seto Ferb - Mimori Matsuri - Kawasumi Sisala - Shiratori Tomoe - Yamai Sawori - Echizen Murasaki
Warning: May contain spoilers for: Episode 1.5 (Ei) - episode 2.5 (Ei, Kyouko, Murasaki) - Episode 3.0 (Ei, Mimi, Sisala, Sawori)
Yukuhashi Ei
A long black haired girl with low tone, calm and somehow whimsical voice bringing a bag full of charms, Ei is a miko who can see ghosts. Her family runs a Shinto shrine (jinja) in Tokyo 7th and she often helps her family as a Miko. Ever since she was a child, she could see ghosts, spirits, and demon and even got possessed by them, although she will not have any memory of the time she was possessed. When she was little, she was so used to running away from them, she actually becomes the fastest runner in Nanastar’s sport event Team Sun (lol–there isn’t any Rena there, so I don’t know which between the two are fastest haha). Other than her ability to see spirits, Ei is just an ordinary girl, who happens to be an idol.
Character
Empathetic
Ei is kindhearted and it doesn’t limit its meaning to merely human or living being, but also the spirits she met. In several episodes including her own, she was shown to be empathetic to spirits. She would let the spirits talk to her and she would try to help them as best as she could, or at least just be there to lend an ear. In Sawori’s 3.0 Ei showed great empathy over Sawori’s condition, and was willing to put her self on the line for her friend’s happiness and be Sawori’s “body guard” to avoid hurting herself. She also appeared to be very aware and sensitive, telling others to not move too fast in case it will hurt Sawori or if they would make Sawori felt bad. In Sisala’s 3.0, Ei was shown to be angry in Sisala’s place when someone was showing aggression towards them. She offered assistance and help to people in trouble, showing sensitivity over someone else’s condition. She also would rather not make people feel bad if she could, opting to not tell her friends of her reason for choosing clothes after they told her it’s unfashionable.
A pushover
Often being placed in either embarrassing or compromising situations, Ei would often look obviously reluctant or troubled when people (or ghost) are asking the impossible out of her (like asking her to cosplay). However, when it comes to someone’s happiness, she would eventually comply given enough persuasion–which usually came in rather easily. Ei was vehemently against becoming magical girl miko for Manon at first, however, albeit reluctantly, she eventually did do it (and actually very serious in it) if it were to make Manon smile again.
Sentimental sense of fashion
Ei has a weird sense of clothing for her everyday attire that her friends said it to be “dasakawaii” which basically lame, but cute. The only cuteness is because Ei is the one wearing, so perhaps in fashion sense it’s just lame. Turned out, Ei chose clothes not based on how they would look good on her, but the memories it holds. That is why her clothes often mismatched each other as each piece is for a memory of different person (like her grandmother, her mother, or the Nanastar idols).
Likes teasing people
With people knowing that she can see ghost, at times she teased people, especially those who are scared by ghost, by saying there are ghost near them or at least pretend that she would say so (only to say something different). An example was Kyouko, who is a scaredy cat, or even Shihainin himself.
Sensible
Common sense is actually one of Ei’s traits, where she questioned a lot of things in the universe that did not add up (such as Miko who use magic). Ei uses polite form when talking to her elder, properly use their honorofic, and is sensible to understand one need to hide something so as to not hurt someone else (such as in Sawori’s 3.0). She also often there to tsukkomi the others’ antics, actually being the straightman instead of the strange one in the team.
Actually is just an ordinary girl in so many meaning
Her other traits are all very “average”. She shows concern, but not the type that rush headlong right away or being too stubborn. She is kind, but still show displeasure for things that embarrassed her. She also tsukkomi a lot of the strangeness in Nanastar. She is perhaps one of the most… “ordinary” out of all the girls, which is also quite ironic, since she might one of the more unique ones with her ability to see ghost.
Character Development
Ei’s character development so far mostly revolves around how she cope, or rather, feel about her supernatural ability or her strangeness. In 1.5 it is expressed that her ability has brought her a lot of trouble since she was a child, however upon being able to help a ghost finding her smile back, she was able to accept that if by having the ability she could make at least those that departed find their happiness back or solve their unresolved feelings. In 2.5 Ei was also shown to use her Miko status to help Manon, and despite her initial reluctance, also believed that it was worth the smile of every children present at that time. She also often used her jinja’s purifying rites to help rid away bad luck from her friends, giving them to Murasaki and also to Sawori. In 3.5, it is shown that even her fashion sense is strange, it was because every clothing articles she wore had memories, the main reason why she chose them.
Relationship
Yamai Sawori
Sawori and Ei’s interaction happened in Sawori’s 3.0, where Ei was paired with Sawori along with Shao for a job. Upon hearing how Sawori desired to not getting wounded at least until a PV shot, Ei realized that something they felt as usual such as not getting injured, is actually something rare for Sawori and she has taken it for granted. She was touched by Sawori’s condition and willing to spend time everyday with Sawori to keep her out of trouble, making charms for Sawori, and even willing to risk herself for Sawori’s sake. They also had a very good relationship, holding hands together as they walk around town.
Kawasumi Sisala
Ei was part of the hip hop event along with Sisala and seemed to have bonded some what (although Ei did not remember much about that time). She was also the one Sisala and co. asked to turn into magical girl for Manon. In Sisala’s 3.0 Ei was shown to have cared a lot for Sisala, while also showing respect, using polite form of speech when she knew she was asking something sensitive. She also express worry upon knowing that Sisala might have to face her past alone.
Uesugi Kyouko
Ei and Kyouko has a light, easy going relationship where Ei was mostly just teasing Kyouko about ghosts. She was willing to design a “ghost hunter show” simulation for Kyouko at least, leaving markers all over Nanasis for Kyouko fight her fear.
Echizen Murasaki
Ei and Murasaki’s interaction happened in Murasaki’s 2.5 when she came to help with Murasaki’s school festival. The first thing that Ei did was telling Murasaki about all the spirits in her school and also told her to be careful of the haunted stairs. Murasaki seemed displeased however, telling Ei to not just tell her that easily about the ghosts in one’s own school. However, Murasaki still showed gratitude and cherish the help she got, also appeared happy when she was given a doll which Ei had also helped to put her jinja’s blessing on.
Xiao Fei Hung
Being assigned together with Xiao and Sawori, Ei and Xiao agreed to not let Sawori get hurt by keep on being with her. Ei appears to keep reminding Xiao to not show their real intention to be with Sawori so as not to make Sawori feels bad, also warning Xiao whenever she walks just a little bit faster, or seems like she will fall. The three of them bonded during their days together, shown to be very comfortable with each other at the end of the episode.
Araki Rena, Jeddah Diamond, Orisaka Ayumu
All three appeared in Ei’s episode 3.0, helping her to pick some new clothes. In the end, they were touched by Ei’s reasoning and with Ei only letting things go and did not bother to explain herself, they talked about how what a wonderful person she was and why her clothes are important for her.
Trivia:
The ‘Yuku” in Yukuhashi means “Death” while “Hashi” means “Bridge”, perhaps signifying how Ei could see those that have died yet has not yet crossed the bridge to another realm. The name Ei, although katakana, perhaps may mean “keen”, signifying Ei’s sixth sense ability to see spirits.
She collects charms, can do purifying rites, and other than ghost can see other spiritual phenomena. When she is possessed, her eyes will lit up purple.
Every time she is being offered a mascot/cosplay job, she would reject it by saying, “Leave those to Musubi!”
She calls her friends on first name basis without honorifics, showing a rather outgoing personality, but she properly use -san honorifics for those older than her.
