How would you rank the four seasons of Succession from fave to least fave?

1. SEASON 2: this is THE shiv season idc every episode belonged to her and that’s why its perfect + it introduced shiv to waystar and therefore to the main plot (i know a lot of people prefer s1 shiv because she was independent and out of the company but THEY ARE WRONG and people that think like that shouldn’t be allowed to perceive her. you could literally tell the writers didn’t know what to do with her in s1 and nate SUCKS. I love her being a tragic girlfailure) + it has most of my favorite episodes + the beginning of romangerri + peak kenstewy angst + peak kendall angst + best finale + most interesting main conflict (the cruise scandal and sandy/stewy takeover) + SHIV SHIV SHIV

2. season 4: idk, it also has a lot of shiv and i don’t particularly care about episodes 5 and 6 but connor’s wedding and the finale make up for that. It was PURE excellence

3. season 1: the first 5 episodes were all over the place and a little boring (also, not that much shiv compared to the other seasons) but 1x06 ended my sanity and 1x07 is my fav succession episode just for the shiv/logan/kendall fight at the end so YEAH, i think every episode after 1x05 is a masterpiece

4. season 3: i love it, but the kendall and logan conflict should’ve been explored more, the ending of 2x10 set my expectations way too high and the way this storyline unfolded was kind of a let down + i hated the way they ended the stewy takeover + i hated that mattson was introduced because i hate him + i still adore this season and its still 100000/10 for me

"but i'm not gonna push it" and that expression what does it meannn like is she feeling threatened by roman? because, honestly, 24 hours before he had her the same thing and she went for his throat so the only difference here is that 1) they're in a room full of people 2) he's implying there's something written. since we've already gone through this plot, i don't think the writers will bring it back (or maybe they will?) and have her go after him, but idk that way it felt a little ooc to me

my read was that she was just putting a feeler out to see how the kids and roman would react – partially to see if there were any cracks between him and the sibs slash to see if she had any chance of swaying roman, but more so i think to see if she could subtly con him into revealing that there was no paper trail of logan's directive to fire her. i think roman has wised up a little (and is obviously generally sore about his own soured relationship to her) so that he doesn't take the bait and instead pulls a little bluff of his own (i took his expression as an "are you sure there's no evidence?" and not so much as an outward threat. i actually doubt there's a paper trail too, but how could gerri know?).

the fact that he doesn't give her any wiggle room, the fact that the siblings and stewy are a united front, the fact that they are in a room full of people, i think it makes sense that she'd back down (and it actually reminded me a little of when shiv challenges her in 2x10 in the boat breakfast scene – she's not going to fight a battle she knows she can't win). and i honestly don't think that particular exchange will have any lasting ramifications on their plot going forward, unless it concerns gerri explicitly trying to figure out if roman does have any proof that logan wanted her ousted, but even then it's like...what does it matter? if anything, now she's going to have to put herself in a position with ken and roman that keeps them from firing her, which is obviously new territory for her and the old guard

10 Favorite Family Guy Episodes

Again, like the South Park list, it’s not in any particular order. Also, it is kinda hard to pick 10, since there are over 400 episodes as of making this list! The newer seasons have a bunch of stinkers, so it’s a little easier this time around, but not by that much.

1. Road To The Multiverse - Most “Road To” episodes are pretty good, but this one really blows the others away. We’re taken on a trip through many of the infinite universes, including a Robot Chicken universe, and even a Disney universe. And who can forget “It’s A Wonderful Day For Pie?”

2. Da Boom - Who remembers the Y2K panic? The Griffins were apparently the only ones that were prepared for the nuclear apocalypse. But Peter establishes his own community and it goes surprisingly well until Stewie’s mutant octopus babies destroy the town. This also marks the debut of the longest running gag in the show: Peter and Ernie’s Chicken Fights. Seth MacFarlane even said his favorite moment was from this episode, when Peter feeds his TV beans when he sees Tom Selleck!

3. Yug Ylimaf - When Brian meddles with Stewie’s time machine to get laid, he accidentally causes time to reverse! We see Family Guy’s most infamous moments played out in reverse, such as Peter falling down the stairs, one of Cleveland’s “No no no!” moments, and the infamous ipecac puking contest! Needless to say, this was something Stewie’s and Brian did not want to go through again, but in reverse it’d be much more gross!

4. Family Guy Viewer Mail - I love a good ol’ What If/anthology episode! From the start of the show, Family Guy was given suggestions from the fans on episode ideas, and there were two episodes in the series that have answered some suggestions. They show Peter and the guys as the Little Rascals, the Griffins having superpowers, Peter having no bones, everything Peter touches turning into Robin Williams, British Family Guy, and everything being shown from Stewie’s point of view. These make for some hilarious moments in the show.

5. Hell Comes To Quahog - This episode has a similar concept to South Park’s “Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes.” A mega-store similar to Walmart and K-Mart, Superstore USA, opens in Quahog and takes away everyone’s jobs. Peter and Chris both lose their jobs due to Superstore USA having a brewery and paper route respectively. Also, the Superstore takes away everyone’s electricity to meet its power demands. Needless to say, as soon as the Superstore was destroyed, everything was back to normal. Also, who can forget “‘Meg!’ ‘*pbft*’”?

6. Pet****d - I’m not even gonna say the title. Peter is a moron. I think that’s already been established since the beginning of the show. But he wins a game of Trivial Pursuit thanks to Lois giving him the preschool questions. Of course, that makes him believe he is actually a genius. When Brian has Peter take an IQ test for the MacArthur Fellows Grant, the latter is shocked when the test results reveal that not only is he not a genius, but he is mentally challenged. Yeah, this episode aired in 2005, so some much more outdated language was used. Of course Peter uses this as an excuse to do what he wants, thinking he could get away with it, but this costs him his children after he accidentally spills hot grease on Lois. My favorite part is when Brian profanely tells Peter “I told you so” about not being a genius, but, YEAH!! IN YOUR FUCKING FACE, FUCKWAD!

7. E. Peterbus Unum - Can’t Touch Me! Instant classic. In this episode, after not being able to get a pool, Peter finds his property isn’t part of the US. Naturally, this prompts Peter to declare his house its own country named Petoria. And in classic Family Guy fashion, this goes about as well as one would expect. After being under siege from the US Army, Peter “invades” the US by breaking into his next door neighbor Joe’s yard, earning him the respect from the rest of the United Nations.

8. Back To The Pilot - Family Guy has been on the air since 1999, save for two cancellations, with the last of which lasting for 2 and a half years! Needless to say, the show has visually come a long way the past 24 years! In season 10, Brian and Stewie travel back in time to January 31, 1999, when the pilot episode “Death Has A Shadow” first aired. The world’s visuals were primitive, Meg was voiced by Lacey Chabert, Peter and the guys were watching a television set that’s not even plugged in, Stewie’s got a more diabolical genius vocabulary, Peter’s eye goes over his nose due to an animation error, everyone just sits there doing nothing during a cutaway, and the aspect ratio is in 4:3. Brian informs his past self about the biggest tragedy in America, which hails him as a hero, but causes Civil War II, and eventually a post-apocalyptic CGI future with Joe being a Terminator. Of course, Stewie and Brian have to go back and fix everything by showing up right before their counterparts do, erasing their timeline in the process.

9. Death Is A Bitch - Death pays Peter a visit. No, he literally pays him a visit! After Death sprains his ankle, the Griffins have to nurse him back to health. Of course, with Death incapacitated, no one can die, and Peter, being the idiot he is, drunkenly blabs it to everyone. Death then forced Peter to do his job for him, since the natural order of things has been disrupted with no one being able to die. Also, Stewie just can’t wait till Death gets better, as his attempt on Lois’s life has failed due to Death not lurking in the shadows. This marks the first appearance of Death as a recurring character, and the only time he was voiced by the late Norm Macdonald, whom I liked better than Adam Corolla voicing him in subsequent appearances.

10. I Dream Of Jesus - A WELL A BIRD BIRD BIRD, THE BIRD IS THE WORD! Ok, got that out of my system. Peter’s favorite song, “Surfin’ Bird,” annoys the hell out of everyone, prompting Stewie and Brian to steal it and destroy in a shot by shot remake of the printer scene from Office Space. This causes Peter to find Jesus. Literally find Jesus working at a record store when looking for copies of “Surfin’ Bird” to replace the one that was stolen. Of course, Peter reveals Jesus to the world, causing Jesus to reach celebrity status overnight. Of course the Hollywood fame gets to Jesus’ head, as he acts like a diva towards Peter. To say that many Christians did not take too kindly to this portrayal of the Messiah would be an understatement, but at least it wasn’t as bad as the way he’s depicted in a much later episode…

The Professor And I Season 2 Christmas Special

Intro: Hello, lovelies!! I hope you guys are having a good day/night and that this week is treating you all well!! Here’s a special one for you guys, this series holds a spot close to my heart, so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!!

Note: Y/N is trying hard to get back to life, but after everything that has happened, they find it difficult to do so, it’s a good thing Lena’s around to help them through this difficult time.

Season 1 Christmas Special S1 Season 2

Its been about a month now since the funeral for your father, you were slowly getting used to your new arm that Lena had helped build for you, some days were better than others, you would get irritated and fight with anyone who would try to tell you otherwise, not only were you not able to have much use with your arm, but your best friend was locked away in a place called the D.E.O. where you couldn’t go since you didn’t have the right clearance, but it was the only way for her to learn how to control her newfound powers, having almost killed you and Alex with them when you guys got into it, to say you were stressed was an understatement.

“Babe, I know it’s hard but-“ Lena tried, getting cut off by your groan of frustration as you struggled to move the fingers on your new robotic arm “Don’t act like you know how this feels! I don’t see you trying to learn to use an arm after losing your own!” You snapped, glaring at her and your features softening when you saw her wince at your tone and avert her gaze “I’m sorry” you apologized, knowing your snapping wasn’t helping anything and looking at the robotic arm, trying to move it again but failing, sweat trailing down your face from trying so hard since this required a lot of strenuous activity “It’s okay… Why don’t you take a break?” She suggested, carefully taking the arm off you so you could rest.

After she set it down on the coffee table of your guys shared apartment, she went over to you and gently cupped your cheeks “I love you, I am so proud of you” she said, looking at you and you bit your lip as you reached up with your right hand and rested it on hers “I love you too… I’m sorry you have to go through this” you apologized, knowing this was no easy task for her either “It’s worth it for you… Why don’t you go shower? Your mom is expecting us bright and early in the morning, so you won’t have time in the morning” she said, looking at you and pressing a small kiss to your lips before she pulled back, stopping when you took her hand “Join me?” You asked, just wanting her there with you since you guys had lost a lot of time together this past semester “Of course” she smiled, leading you into the bathroom.

Once your shower was over, the two of you cooked some dinner, you doing what you could with one arm before you guys cuddled up in bed for the night after dinner “I’m glad we got this place” you said, you guys having went through with your plans to move in together at semester break, having found a great place not too far from the school, but far enough to not raise any suspicion “Me too, it’s nice” Lena said, this being the closest she had ever been to someone and reaching over, gently wrapping her arms around you and pulling you to her, smiling when you nuzzled against her chest as you got comfortable and feeling her kiss your head “Get some sleep, it’s going to be a busy day” she said softly, gently rubbing your back as the two of you fell into comfortable silence.

A few hours later, you woke up with a gasp and sat up quickly, running your hands over your now sweaty face and through your hair that was still wet from the shower “Hey hey hey” Lena whispered, having woken up when you jostled the bed, turning on the lamp on her side before she rested her hand on her back “It’s okay, you’re safe, you’re with me” she said softly, hating seeing you like this, you having nightmares almost every night since you saw your father die “It’s my fault, I should’ve gotten there sooner, I should’ve-“ you rambled, starting to hyperventilate until you felt Lena gently grip your wrists before she moved to sit in front of you “It is not your fault, your father knows this” she promised, looking at your tear-stained face as you locked eyes with her, your breathing slowing down as it went back to normal “Your father loved you and he is watching you from wherever he is, he is so damn proud of you and he wouldn’t want you blaming yourself” she said, looking at you and watching as you let out a sob before you hugged her tightly “I miss him” you cried, feeling Lena tighten her grip on you “I know, baby… I know”.

The next morning, Lena drove the two of you to your mother’s house, being sure to get you your favorite Starbucks drink before you both settled in for the two hour drive, her hand never leaving your leg unless she needed to shift the gear, her driving a manual which she had tried to teach you to drive before, but that was on hold for now until you got used to your new arm which you guys had in the back so you could practice, the two of you going to stay at your mother’s for the week “Do you feel warm enough?” She asked as she stopped at a stoplight “Yeah…” You said softly, the closer you got to your mothers, the harder it was to keep your baring, so you tried not to say much.

When you guys got there and your mother opened the door, the two of you stared at one another for a moment before you hugged each other tightly, you trying really hard to be strong for her as you felt your mother let out a sob “It’s okay, he’s in a better place” you whispered, rubbing her back some as you let her cry into your shoulder, pulling back after a moment and giving her the best smile you could muster before she went and hugged Lena “Come on in, it’s too cold to be standing out there!” Your mother said, wiping her tears and giving you guys a smile before she let you both in.

“When do the others arrive?” You asked, knowing you guys would have a full house for the week since your family didn’t want your mother alone at all during these holidays “Your cousins Sarah and Jesse should be here in an hour, the others will arrive tomorrow” she said, looking at you and gesturing for you to go “Go on and get settled in your room, I’ll be in here when you get all settled” she said, giving you guys a smile before you helped Lena carry the bags into your old room “Mommmm” You whined when you saw she had put your old sheets on, the ones with One Direction on them and hearing Lena let out a chuckle “What? It’s cute” she chuckled, kissing your frown before she set the bag in her hands on the bed.

Over the course of the next few days, you guys were busy with getting last minute Christmas shopping done and decorating, to you just trying to use your new arm, the next thing you knew, it was Christmas day and your mom was cooking in the kitchen with your aunt Shelia and your grandma Betty while your younger cousins were running around in the living room, playing with their new toys “Come with me?” Lena asked, taking the coffee mug in your hand and setting it on a nearby table, leading you to the back porch after you pulled your shoes and large coat on since it had snowed overnight “Lena, it’s cold” you whined, following her as she chuckled, just leading you over to the lake right behind the house “This won’t take long, promise” she said, turning to you and giving you a small smile.

You raised an eyebrow when you saw her sudden nervous composure “Okay…” She finally said, clearing her throat as she pulled a small box out of her pocket “Lena-“ It’s not that! Not yet anyway” she assured you, having seen the panic on your face until she opened the box in her hands “This is something before that… A promise ring, I’m promising myself to you… No one has ever made me feel the way you do and if you’ll have me, I want to use this to show my commitment to you” Lena said, knowing that had been the big issue with the two of you over the semester and she wanted to make it known that you were hers and she was yours.

Staring at the ring, you couldn’t help but start to chuckle, making Lena furrow her brow “I’m sorry, I-“ she apologized, stopping when she saw you pull something out of your pocket “Ironic, we had the same idea” you said, struggling for a moment to open the box until it finally opened, a small promise ring inside it, you watching as Lena stared at it before she smiled and took it out of the box “Put it on me?” She asked, handing the ring to you before holding her right hand out and letting you slip it onto her ring finger, before she did the same with yours “No more questioning us… I’m one hundred percent committed to you” she said, resting her forehead on yours as you smiled “As am I” you said, leaning up on your tip toes and kissing her gently “Can we go inside now? My toes are freezing” you said, causing her to laugh before she pocketed both boxes and picked you up bridal style “Of course, as you wish” she said, giving you a smile before carrying you into the house, while this Christmas was sad, Lena always knew how to make you smile and one day, she would be yours… Forever.

I'm at the begginning of season 2, so obviously there's still a lot ahead that I don't know about, but generally I've been enjoying it tremendously. It's fun and hilarious at certain points while also making me want to crawl out of my skin with cringe, but the thing that truly surprised me is how much I've come to care for most characters, especially the four Roy sibilings. "It's a satirical comedy about millionaires" is not a wrong description of the show on itself, but it feels incomplete, because it's that and also very much a show that manages to get you emotionally invested in these fucked up people and their damaged relationships and feelings.

At times it feels like watching a greek tragedy, especially with Kendall's arc in season 1, which made me extremely sad. I found myself rooting for him even though it wouldn't really be an objectively good thing for him to win. In realistic terms the only true freedom for Kendall would be walking away like Stewy told him to, because none of them can beat Logan, because at the end of the day they're all aiming for some kind of ending to the dispute - the defeat of their father but also the end of this lifelong game they're playing, and the thing is that it can't end because this is being Logan's child, there's no endgame where the dynamics change, this is it. Like... Even Kendall's desire to destroy his dad is rooted in a desperate wish to win his dad's approval. He wants to beat Logan not because he has a better idea for the future of the company or whatever he tries to tell everyone else, but because beating Logan is, in Kendall's mind, the only way to win his respect. And so his decisiveness is always tinged by a touch of misery that continues to take over, all growing and growing and coming to a halt in the finale when, instead of finally breaking free, he ends up even more trapped by Logan, maybe more than he's ever been. The continuation of that in season 2 has been excruciating to watch because he's so completely broken and he has no one that could help him because he can't even acknowledge his trauma to anyone else.

As far as the other Roys go, I really like Roman and Shiv (I like Connor too, but he's obviously the most underdeveloped). I found myself getting annoyed at Roman at times during season 1 because I was, at the end of the day, rooting for Kendall despite everything I said above (lol), but at the end of the day I couldn't stay angry at him because in many ways he seems like the saddest of them all? He can't even try to defy Logan. All he can do is attempt to fight Kendall for scraps of whatever their dad can offer them that remotely resembles love. He's also the only one of them who has been confirmed to have been physically abused by Logan, and I wonder if he was truly the only one who was on the receiving end of it, because it would explain why he's more submissive than all the others. I'm curious to see if this is expanded in the future. I'm also really curious to know what is the deal with his sexual issues, but this part I'm sure will be discussed at one point, as it's a plot beat that keeps coming up.

Then there's Shiv, who... Oof. I find her so fascinating, because I think she's the closest of all siblings to have some self-awareness of their situation, and her actions pre-events of the show demonstrate that. She was trying to do her own thing! She was actually good at it! Even her marrying Tom is, in my opinion, not the demonstration of fear Logan claimed it was, but a desperate attempt to have some amount of solid love and support. But then Logan pulls her in, and again, it's tragic because on some level she is aware of the trap to hesitate, but ultimately she isn't aware enough to escape. She, too, is tempted by the promise to be the big winner at their father's game, to put her hands on the power he's wielded over them their entire lives, and I'm pretty sure it's all gonna blow up on her face like it did with Kendall's. And I think this season will only make her more interesting to watch.

As for Tom and Greg... This is seems to be a super unpopular opinion on this site but to be completely honest, I'm not as invested in either of them as I am in the siblings! I enjoy their scenes and their bizarre dynamic but their characters don't appeal to me in the same way the Roys do. I've stopped to think about it and, as far as dynamics go, I'm way more interested in seeing Tom interacting with Shiv (I'm fascinated by this mess in particular, and I'd need an entire new post to explain why because this one is already too long and confusing lol) and Greg interacting with Kendall than what they have going on between them. But I think Tom is the most hilarious character in the show by far and I always lose my mind at a random line of his everytime he's on screen. His scenes are already funny and bizarre enough on paper, but something about Matthew Macfadyen's performance takes them to a whole other level. I'm aware his role in the series only grows in the following episodes and, despite him not being one of my favorites, I'm here for it.

Mixtapes are Romantic

We all know it, everyone who recognises a trope knows it. @margarittet and I just wanted to catalogue a few obvious ones in one place to put this to rest.

So what is a trope? 

It’s an agreed-upon narrative, an archetypal, recognisable reading of a story or situation, a kind of narrative stereotype. Tvtropes says “tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations”.

So essentially a trope is a way for a writer to tell the audience something, something important that they want to get across without saying blatantly out loud... yet. They have pay off but in the mean time it’s a means to convey the authors INTENT and for the audience to be prepared when the pay off happens without being surprised.

Examples of tropes in Supernatural: 

- The cough of death. If you just cough once on screen, you’re gonna die (or at the very least it’s showing there’s a BIG health issue at hand) eg. Karen. It’s not like coughing irl. This is a long running laughed about trope in hospital dramas, you come in with an unknown cancerous tumour that should definitely kill you, you are cured and live! BUT the guy in the bed next to you who thought he was just there for a check up coughs once and he’s the one who dies.

- Love nostalgia songs. Dean singing along to “can’t fight this feeling” as a romantic link to Jo with lyrics “what started out as friendship has grown stronger”. Dean later singing along to “all outta love” as a romantic link to Cas after his death where he now feels huge guilt with lyrics “I’m so lost without you, I know you were right believing for so long, what am I without you, it cant be too late to say that I was so wrong”. 

- Redemption = Death. As soon as “bad guy” Crowley saved Cas in 12x12 and seemed on a path to bettering himself/redemption. DEAD. It’s a standard semi-villain trope, eg. Darth Vader.

- Sadness Tropes. Depression, lack of sense of belonging etc.  When Cas in early season 11 had a meltdown the flashbacks are a PTSD trope. It’s thus clear his depression is going to have a key role in the story. It led directly to saying yes to Lucifer after this was exposed further by Ambriel, but the earlier meltdown is the set up trope. 

- Longing looks and held gazes. Need I say more.

- The male gaze. The 8x07 gaze trope as Cas exits the bathroom and Dean has a full body and face reaction.

- Star crossed lovers. Lovers who are told they cannot be together. Usually due to fate, duty, family, cultural norms, or, for example sacred oaths... something will always be in the way, until it isn’t or they die.

These are standard tropes of storytelling, they pay off. The trope is there to show us the author’s intent to do so. So mixtapes, what do they tell us?

Let’s set the scene with what I believe is the most succinct quote below:

“Maybe I need some kind of a gesture. You know, something that says we’re moving forward without having to talk about it...” “A mixtape?”

1. High Fidelity - of course is the place to start, Rob making Laura a mixtape to show how he feels (romantic love of course).

“the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do’s and don’ts. First of all, you’re using someone else’s poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.”

2. Bring it On - This is my favourite, cos hey, I grew up with this movie :) So Cliff gives Torrance a mixtape to show he’s crushing on her and I shit you not the lyrics repeated over and over again are “you’re what I need!”:

“Cliff makes Torrance a mixtape that even by 2000 standards would have been outdated technology, to say nothing of the fact that all these characters would have been listening to their music in MP3 form in just a few months. Still, in movies and in real life, mixtapes have special properties, and this one gives Torrance the drive to push through the final leg of the story. It’s a lot more romantic than, say, giving someone a thumbdrive” - People Magazine

“Even by 2000 standards”. Yep 17 YEARS later it’s even better, especially when the recipient doesn't even have a tape player in their car so it’s literally JUST a trope for the trope’s sake. They could have given Cas any excuse to talk to Dean, he could have asked for his phone to be charged, his car to be fixed to get Dean out of his room, whatever, it could have been a borrowed tape that was clearly Dean’s and not a gift. Anyway he didn’t even need an excuse, he could have just gone to talk to him as buddies/brothers would after the heated exchange earlier, they’ve talked in his room before, there was no plot narrative NEED for the gift of a romantic trope mixtape (of crotch rock music that is already associated with love interests, Jo saying that’s how men think they get into her panties and John/Mary)  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3. Friends - 8x11 The one with Ross’s step forward.

Ross says: “Maybe I need some kind of a gesture. You know, something that says we're moving forward without having to talk about it.”

4. Friends -  Monica & Chandler and Chandler & Janice. A mixtape is seen as a romantic gesture twice in one episode. It’s undeniably romantic.

5. Family Guy - 4x08. Stewie comically makes a mixtape for his crush (the babysitter) because it’s such a recognisable trope.

6. Guardians of the Galaxy - I keep seeing this used as an anti argument and it’s kinda hilarious as there’s one instance of it as a platonic parent-child gift but everything else around it is 100% romantic and it’s use is overtly romantic for the protagonist. It’s a platonic sandwich (starlord-mom) between two bits of romantic bread (mom-dad and Starlord-Gamorrah). It represents the love of his mom for his dad, her gift is a legacy of that love that she then gifts to her child. Starlord then in GotG 2 uses it to woo Gamorrah, thus reinstating the original romantic meaning of the mixtape and it’s music in the movie.

7. No Strings Attached - As Adam’s feelings becomes more obviously romantic, he’s jealous of others and wants to take it to the next level, he gifts her a mixCD because it’s 2011 and a mixtape would be so outdated and too obvious a cliché for even this tacky romcom.... uhhhh ;)

Emma: “Adam, did you make me a period mix?”  Friend: “That’s so romantic!”

8. Cuban Fury - Bruce makes Julia a mixtape to show her how he feels (hint, it’s romatic, shocker I know!), he is kind and respectful of her. This is directly compared with Drew who also is vying for her attentions but does so in a sleazy and patronising way. The mixtape represents his romantic feelings and the time, thought and effort that went into making it, showcasing him as a caring person who cares for her in particular.

So yeah, mixtapes are romantic. They’re consistently romantic and used as a “moving this relationship to the next level, trying to tell you how I feel without saying it out loud” trope.

It’s so weird that they’d use a romance trope here though right? There’s been no reason to read the two of them as written as a love story for 9 years. It’s so out of the blue! No-one has noticed this before now! I’M SHOCKED AT THIS UNFORSEEN TURN OF EVENTS. 

If only there were other indications that this was just a part of the consistent theme between Dean and Cas, that it felt like the author intent in season 12 was to show us “you know, something that says we’re moving forward without having to talk about it”...oh wait ;)

I feel like this is enough, there’s no need to flog a dead horse after all. It’s a romance trope. Some lovely people did send me more though so they’re below the cut :)

Music influences college life

Prologue

Music. Music is everywhere; it travels in the wind, vibrates in the water, and moves from person to person. It’s embedded in our everyday lives. Music reaches into the deepest parts of our souls and grabs all sorts of emotions we didn’t even know we were capable of feeling. Music can define a person in ways such as how they behave to the style of clothes they wear. For us as college students we use music as a way to focus on certain task, to put ourselves in a certain mood, or to give our minds a break. We also come to find we use music as a way to connect with others. The beautiful part about music is it has the power to bring all types of people from all walks of life together. All it takes is for another person to feel the same way about a song/artist as you do and that could be the start of new friendship. Music is healing, it’s a certain type of medication for the mind and soul.

Act 1: The Piano in Johnson

Ever since I could remember music has been a part of my life. My parents never  signed me up to learn any instrument but my dad got me and my cousin different color acoustic kid guitars one Christmas and he also got me the ‘I Can Play’ piano. I loved this because it had cartridges that you put in it, hooked it up to the TV and I was able to learn different songs. The last time I played it I was probably in second or third grade and soda spilled on it. The summer of third grade we moved. Sometime after we settled into the house my parents got me a keyboard for Christmas. It came with a song book and I could read the simple treble clef and for a few weeks I would try to play it by reading or pulling up the song book on the keyboard so it would show you how to play and you would have to repeat it.

I wanted to learn modern songs so I went to YouTube and I would search for piano tutorials. There are many different versions of songs on YouTube ranging from slow and easy to hard. I always learn through a simple paced tutorial and I only play the lyrics because playing cords takes practice and it’s hard to play two different rhythmic patterns at a time. It’s easier for me to play what I can hear and every time I play a note I can hear the next lyric in the song.

Earlier in the school year,as I walked through the rec room, I saw someone by the piano with their phone out trying to play ‘7 years’  by Lukas Graham. I only heard the beginning notes as I walked through but I could immediately tell what song he was trying to play. There was also a time I walked in and as I approached the rec room I heard the piano. I noticed that there was only one other person in the space. He stopped when I walked in but after a few minutes he continued to play. I listened to try and see what he was playing but I couldn’t figure it out.

Someone recently approached me one day when I was playing in Johnson and asked me if I was good at playing. I didn’t know how to explain it. I told him “kind of, I just search the song on YouTube and follow along.” I mentioned that I only play lyrics. I asked him how he played and he responded with expressing that he “plays it by ear”.  I also talked to a girl in my audio class. She told me, “I can read the treble clef. I took piano lessons growing up.” We talked about the different ways to play and we realized she is someone who would play two parts with two hands.

The piano in Johnson is great because it gives kids in the Hall a place where they can express themselves through music and feel like they have a voice. Don’t be afraid to walk up to it and try. Maybe you’ll enjoy it as much as I do just remember that no matter what happens, if you feel inclined to play to keep practicing and never give up. Music is a part of everyone’s everyday life, don’t let someone else’s words erase who you are as a person.

Act 2: Party Vibes

My first college party was on Halloween weekend. Everyone was dressed up; costumes ranged from sexy police girl to a dude wearing a Stewie face mask (Family Guy). At one point I saw Post Malone, or more like someone who did a good job dressing as him. But that wasn’t the first thing I noticed when I walked in. It was the music. The music hit my ears the second I stepped inside. It was a song off of Lil Wayne’s new album called Uproar. Everyone was dancing. It was crazy, there were bodies everywhere moving in all different directions to the beat of the song. Everyone, from freshman to senior were on the dance floor dancing and laughing; having a good time.

Music is everything at parties. It sets the vibe of the party and gives people a way to use their “buzzed” energy. Music has this ability to make the listener feel a certain way. One of the upperclassmen here at Kutztown loves to go out. She says sometimes the parties are really lit and sometimes they’re okay, “a great night out depends on which Frat house is throwing because some play good music (a.k.a dance music rather then rap)  and some don’t.” In other words when students go out to party they’re looking to dance and get “lit”, but it’s more fun to dance along to songs that are boppy and upbeat rather than rap songs where you can hardly hear what the artist is saying. Imagine a college party without music… yeah you can’t because it’s not a thing. Music is part of the party culture whether it’s a party here at Kutztown or just a hangout in your dorm with friends.

Act 3: Melodious Coffee

It's finals week! You've been trying to keep up with your work all semester, but you are finally caught up. You try and try to make time to study, but could never really look at your notes without falling asleep. Students often use energy drinks and coffee to fight drowsiness when they know they are falling asleep, but… there's one the thing that every student uses when they are studying to stay up called...music!

You wouldn’t think most people actually listen to music while studying due to the fact at a young age you was told not to. From interviewers I came across some negative effects when trying to listen to music and study at the same time. As a college kid myself I fall victim to this technique. No matter what genre the music falls under I need to have some type of sound in the background for me to stay up and study notes. I personally don't drink coffee or energy drinks since they are not necessarily good for you; however I listen to melodious coffee which requires no money to help me fight sleep to review notes. I realize from students the variety of music that is listened to while studying is vast. It was very interesting to see that students prefer instrumental music (which contains no vocals) over music that actually contains vocals. The anonymous student answered “I would die without music in a day”, “Music helps me study it really serves as a background noise so i don't fall asleep.” These answers were the most common responses when asked the same questions with different students. We can see music most of the time has a positive effect when it comes to studying. I believe we should abandon unhealthy items like energy drinks and coffee if we can use music as our own melodious caffeine.

I wanted to give you an overall idea of how he COULD benefit your game play. And it’s simple you can use Clubber Lang on one of his two useful tasks, either the 4hr task to drop vodka or the 6hr task to clear Middleweight Boxers. So you’ll need to decide which area you want to use him on.

You can have him on his 4hr task Get Punch Drunk which will always drop 1 Vokda. So you could get up to 6 vodkas every 24hrs doing this, and these vodkas will help you attack the Ivan Drago boss at the various levels available. These attacks are the only way to get Russian Vitamns, need to unlock the Ivan Drago character.

Or

You can have him on his 6hr task Go Toe To Toe With Middleweight Boxers which will clear Middleweight Boxers, and get you a chance of 1x Milk dropping. So you could get 4 chances of a Milk drop every 24hrs doing this.  Milk is needed to Fight at the Quahog City Music Hall, you need to do this in order to  get the Headgear needed for buying buildings from Adrian’s Pet Store in this phase.

Or

You can mix and match the abive tasks, using him to get you drops of both Milk and Vodka.

So his usefulness is obvious from the above, but is he essential, well technically no, as Boxer Peter can fight the Middleweight Boxers and there will be 2 buildings that drop vodka, but these are the final 2 items to buy in this Phase of Adrian’s Pet Store, so they aren’t going to be easy to get. So yes there are other ways to get the drops but you’re going to go a lot slower tHan you would if you buy him. But hey there’s nothing wrong with that, especially if you’re not a fan of Rocky.

Final Thought:

Personally, I passed on him on him as I’m not a big fan of Rocky, got no interest in boxing or boxers, and finally I decided when this event started it would be a freemium event for me, unless Boxer Stewie was available to buy outright. But since Boxer Stewie is in a mystery box I’m sticking to my freemium plan. And yes I know this Phase will be a slow grind due to this, I’ve had Peter clear 2 Middleweight Boxers with 0 Milk drops, so I’m not expecting to get anywhere fast this phase. I’ll grind away and see where I end up. But if you’re a big fan of Rocky, this is probably a good investment, you’ll get a full character who will help you greatly in getting a 2nd character, Ivan Drago. So Addicts the decision is yours! Will you pull no punches and throw 270 clams in the ring, or have you thrown in the towel on premiums in this event like I have?

With it being part of a Limited Time Event, just make sure you make up your mind as once the event is over it is most likely they will be gone. In the end it’s your call.  What you buy and what you don’t buy is your own personal choice we can only guide you on the facts and let you know what we did and what we think.  But don’t purchase it until YOU are sure. The Professor And I Season 2 (pt. 17)

Note: Y/N has to learn to cope with everything that happened, them and Lena reconcile, we find out what exactly happened to Kara.

Red… That’s all you saw; Dominguez had done it and your father was now bleeding on the ground in front of him as Dominguez held his hands up in surrender when the cops arrived “No!” You cried, slowly falling to the ground with Lena holding onto you tightly “Let me go” you sobbed, quickly going over to your father and taking his hand “Dad-“ “This… Is not… Your fault” your father struggled, looking at you and giving your hand a small squeeze “But it is… I’m so sorry” you said, wishing you could do something as you looked at him “No need… I love you… Tell your mom… The same” he managed before you saw the light leave his eyes “No…” you cried, shaking him some in an attempt to wake him “Dad!” You cried, all but collapsing when you rested your head on his chest, feeling hands on your back but you didn’t care, your dad was gone.

When you got to the hospital, you were taken into a room and were put back on your I.V.s and whatever else you needed, you didn’t fight it, you didn’t have the energy or the will to fight it “Y/N… Talk to me” Lena said softly, her being the only one in the room with you since Alex and Maggie were with Kara and Lara was getting checked out herself “What is there to say? My dad’s dead… The one thing I tried to prevent” you said softly, knowing you would blame yourself for this the rest of your life “Honey… It’s not your fault, you did all that you could” Lena said, going and taking your hand, your eyes starting to feel droopy “It wasn’t enough” you whispered before letting the drugs drag you into a dreamless sleep.

When you woke up, you saw Lena curled up in the very uncomfortable looking chair by your bed while your mother sat in the corner of your room, staring blankly at the wall across from her “Mom?” You asked softly, watching as she looked at you and gave you a sad smile before slowly going over to you “Hey, baby… How are you feeling?” She asked, her voice scratchy from crying and her brushing some hair out of your face “I’m so sorry” you said, completely ignoring her question and watching as she bit her lip “It’s not your fault, your father was always apart of a dangerous family” she said, pulling a chair up by your bed and willing to tell you as much as needed to get you to understand that this wasn’t your fault, but she knew that it might never happen, you had your father’s stubbornness, no matter how much she wished you didn’t sometimes.

A few days later, Lena was helping you get ready for the funeral, the doctors letting you be released for the day so you could attend “How’s Kara?” You asked as Lena kneeled down to tie your shoes, you still struggling to tie them with one hand “They still don’t know what Dominguez injected her with, but they’re going to keep trying… For now she’s sedated” Lena said, glancing up at you and the two of you having started to make amends over the past few days “That’s good” you said softly, sniffling some and quickly wiping your eyes, stopping when Lena gently cupped your cheek “Are you okay?” She asked, clearly worried about you as she looked at you “No” you said honestly, not going into any further explanation and Lena wasn’t going to force you, so she went back to helping you dress.

The funeral… Was rough, you never thought you would lose either of your parents this early, you were only 21 years old, you thought you had a lot more years than you did before one of them died, but now here you were, at your father’s funeral… And it was your fault, at least that’s what you thought, getting pulled out of your thoughts when Lena laced her fingers with yours, giving your hand a small squeeze while Alex rested her hand on your shoulder and gave it a squeeze as well, you knowing this was going to be hard to get through, but both you and your mom had a great support system.

A few weeks later, you were getting ready to leave the hospital since your stitches were out and you’d be getting molded for a prosthetic in the coming week, you were going to be living with Lena for the time being since none of them wanted you on your own while you were still getting used to having one arm, looking over at the door when it opened and you saw Alex standing there, looking worried “They think they might know what Kara was injected with…”

Walking with Alex, you listened to her as she explained that they had looked at the stuff you had in the vial from the lab and discovered that it matched what they found in Kara’s blood “What are you saying, Alex?” You asked, looking at her and stopping when she stopped in front of Kara’s door “Kara has powers” she said, opening the door and watching as you looked in the room, barely dodging out of the way when a laser shot out at you guys “Kara?” You asked, looking in the room and seeing her glaring at you guys with red eyes… This was going to be a long next few months.

The Professor And I Season 2 (pt. 12)

Intro: Hello, lovelies!! I hope you guys are having a good day/night!! Sorry for the delay, I had so much I wanted to write, but of course I split it up, I hope you guys enjoy!! :)

Note: Y/N is even more confused, a plan ensues, Nia gets upset with Y/N but for good reason, Lena is panicked.

As you looked up at Lena, everything seemed even more confusing than before, you still loved Lena, of course you did… But, you also liked Lara “Thanks” you finally said, looking at Lena who nodded and helped you stand up “Of course” Lena said, glancing at Lara as the two of you set you back onto the bed, Lena refusing to let go of you until she knew you were comfortable “I got them” Lara said softly, looking at Lena and able to feel the tension in the room, watching Lena nod before unwillingly letting you go “I should get going… I’ll see you in class, Miss Croft” Lena said, looking at Lara who nodded before she looked at you “I hope you get to feeling better Mr./Miss Y/L/N” she said before heading out, leaving you feeling very conflicted and unsure of yourself.

A few days later, Lara and Lena stopped showing up, which hurt since you were used to at least one of them coming to see you, another odd thing was Vikander never responded to your email which made you very suspicious “I have to get out of here” you whispered to yourself, trying to think of how you would get out of here… You were on the fourth floor, you didn’t have a vehicle, and you were missing an arm… This wouldn’t be easy.

After a few moments, the door to your room opened and you looked up to see Maggie with Alex “Hey” you said, giving them a small smile as you sat up and gave them careful hugs “How are you feeling?” Alex asked, her having been unable to visit much with classes and work “Better… I get molded in a few weeks” you said, knowing the scars and stuff would be healed enough by then to be able to get a good mold “That’s good, one step closer” Alex said, giving you a small smile which you returned and debating on asking them for help… Alex would definitely say no, but Maggie? She may be up for an escape attempt.

You waited until Alex headed out to grab herself a coffee before you looked at Maggie “I know that look… What do you want?” Maggie sighed, raising an eyebrow “How do you know I want something?” You asked, tilting your head to the side and watching as Maggie rolled her eyes “You know why, now tell me” she said, gently shoving your good shoulder and quickly shaking her head when you asked “You know Alex will kill me if I help you” she said, looking at you and glancing at the door to make sure no one was coming yet “Please Maggie, something’s going on and I have to find out!” You begged, giving her puppy eyes and cheering when she relented “Fine, but you’re going to need more than just me” “Don’t worry, I have some others in mind”.

“You’re crazy” Nia said when you informed her and Brainy of the plan you had come up with a bit after Maggie and Alex left “Maybe, but I have to know what’s going on here and me staying in this damn hospital room is not gonna do that” you said, looking at them “They have a point” Brainy said, ignoring the glare that Nia threw at him “They’re the only one with access to the lab, they’re the only one that can get us the information we need for all this” he said, looking at Nia who didn’t let off the glare “Fine, but if we get caught, I blame you” Nia said, pointing at you and watching you nod “Of course, I’ll take full blame, but we won’t get caught” you said, looking at them and running them down on what they needed to do which included informing Maggie about it since you would stay with her for the time being to hide out.

Today was the day, it had been a week since your original meeting with Nia and Brainy, but you had gotten all the schedules down to a pat, waiting until Maggie came into your room “Okay… Everything’s set” she said, looking nervous since she’d never broken anyone out of the hospital before, but there was no going back now “Nia have the costume?” “She does, she’ll be here in ten and Brainy is ready to distract downstairs… I’ll be in my car, ready to get you out of there and Nia and Brainy will meet us at my place” she said, looking at you and you smiled “Great!” You said, watching her nod before she turned and opened the door “Hey Maggie?” You asked, watching as she turned to look at you “Thank you” you said, watching as she smiled and nodded before heading out, leaving you to prepare to leave.

Pulling on your flannel that you had asked Kara to bring you, your door opened and you looked over, seeing Nia in her nurse outfit and a rolling cart filled with clean sheets “I suggest you hurry because what I’m doing right now is highly illegal” Nia said, keeping the smile on her face as you quickly pulled whatever needles were in your arms after shutting the machines off, knowing they’d know but it would take a little longer with the alarms off before you threw your bag into the cart and carefully hopped in before Nia covered you with some of the blankets.

As Nia pushed you out of the room and towards the elevator, you heard her muttering to herself about how much you owed her for this and you knew you would find a way to pay her back, but right now you had to get out of there, feeling the cart stop “We almost there?” You asked softly, earning a quick ‘shush’ from Nia who was getting an odd look from a doctor that was in the elevator as well, waiting until he got off before talking to you “You almost gave us away” she hissed, making you wince since she had never used that type of tone with anyone before “Sorry” you responded, opting to stay silent the rest of the way.

After a bit, you heard Brainy talking with the nurse up at the receptionist desk as Nia pushed you through the area and into a side hallway before she helped you out “Head down these stairs… Maggie is waiting right outside the doors” she said before heading out of there, planning to ditch the outfit before leaving and you quickly made your way down the stairs, coughing some into your good arm since this was the most physical activity you’ve done in a hot minute “Shit” you muttered, seeing Lena’s car pull up as you exited the staircase, diving quickly in front of the nearest parked car and waiting until you heard the distinct sound of her heels clicking on the concrete.

“Yeah, I just need to visit someone and I’ll be there… Sir, I will make it back in time, promise” you heard her say, knowing that she had to be on the phone with one of her higher ups, waiting until you heard the doors to the stairs close before you got up and rand to Maggie’s car and hopped in “Go, we don’t have much time… Lena’s here” you said, looking at Maggie whose eyes widened “She’s going to kill us” she groaned before starting the car and driving off, praying to everything that was holy that Lena didn’t catch you guys.

In your hospital room… About ten minutes later… Lena walked into the room and froze, seeing the room empty and your window open, panic surging through her as she ran to get somebody “Where did they go?” She asked, panicked as she confronted a nurse “Who?” “The person that was in that room” Lena said, pointing at the door to your room “They should still be in there” the nurse said, walking over to your now vacant room and freezing when he as well saw your room empty “I’m calling the cops” Lena said, fighting back tears as she dialed ‘911’, she was scared that the worse had happened again… She can’t go through that, not again, she almost lost you last semester due to her negligence… She wouldn’t let it happen again.
