i've observed that too- specifically in the white cis femme community, there is a lot of hostility toward lesbians who are attracted to men and/or have slept with men. a lot of it stems from lesbian separatism and radfeminism- a lot of white cis femmes get wrapped up in that culture very easily, unfortunately

there's a lot of hostility toward male and transmasculine lesbians in the white cis femme community. i love cis femmes, but unfortunately many have fallen down the terf rabbit hole and believe that lesbian means woman attracted woman only, and it's unfortunate, because it's such a narrow view on lesbianism and leaves out most of the varied and complex relationships with sexuality and gender when it comes to lesbianism. unfortunately many white cis femme lesbians get wrapped up in believing that any expression of masculinity beyond androgyny or soft butch is too "aggressive" or "hostile".

a lot of people hold the belief that for whatever reason a lesbian is "tainted" once they've slept with a man, as though other lesbians will catch some type of contageous disease just by being near a lesbian who sleeps with men. it's really childish behavior- it's okay to not be attracted to men, but it's not a personal attack when another lesbian does find men attractive. it doesn't say anything about you- your partner's sexual identity doesn't have to line up 1:1 with yours in order to be legitimate

i know MANY lesbians who are attracted to men in some capacity or another and don't even consider themselves bisexual. for some people they acknowledge that attraction but don't consider it to be something that changes who they are, and this is an okay expression of this experience as well

bi lesbians have always been a part of the community, there are many photographs from events both recent and further in the past that show support for and acknowledgement of bisexual lesbians. dyke marches in particular have been very inclusive spaces for bi lesbians, and queer protests and pride meetups usually have a good number of bi lesbians among the crowd. it's a term that's been used for decades, and the example that i have readily available is a comic strip written by Alison Bechdel in 1999:

there's no reason why lesbian/sapphic/dyke attraction would be "cancelled out" by being attracted to men- one does not stop having a sapphic relationship with other people just because they find men attractive, especially considering that some men are lesbians, too. genderfluid and bigender people exist as well and it's okay for lesbians to be attracted to people with multiple genders

a lot of butches identify as both men and women and it doesn't make their partners not lesbians to be attracted to them. lesbian attraction is complex and there is a lot more to it than just being attracted to women. there's a lot of culture rooted in genderfuckery here, and even if a lesbian is attracted to a cis man, it doesn't matter. that's still okay. it doesn't 'cancel out' their lesbianism

some bi lesbians aren't even attracted to men, but rather a multitude of other genders. that doesn't make them not lesbians, either. you don't just stop being a lesbian just because you're attracted to multiple genders. it doesn't change anything about you, especially not the rest of your identity and your focus in life. for some, the people they're attracted to is very important and for others it's just a fact of life that isn't their primary focus

it doesn't make a woman or lesbian "straight" to be attracted to genders other than women

It’s finally time to introduce the secondary project I’ve been working on >;Dc

I’ve had this queued for sometime in June, did not check when, so hello on [random date in june] ;D

I’m also here to explain how I’ll be posting this stuff going forward! Everything will be posted here, on my main account before being reblogged over to Soul’s Anchor a side bog with the place holder title. Unless it deals with more adult/suggestive content or heavier topics, of which will be exclusively posted to Soul’s Anchor side blog. As I don’t want certain themes alongside AM! I’ll also be referring to this series as Anchor for short! I will encourage any and all Questions, Mentions, and Thoughts to be directed there for those interested and those who are not, dw! You’ll only see the initial posts here, no asks or follows up, but this is still my art account and I shall enjoy it as I please ;3

Brief Synopsis about the Story:

A queer love story following a cursed pirate and a cult refugee implanted with a god’s eye as they combat the reality of living in a world which was created solely to feed the gods that govern it. All whilst a sapphic couple attempt to help guide the pair along a path to to a better future, one that’s validity comes into question. A dark fantasy story that aims to represent the disabled community, the LGBTQIA+, and SA survivors written by fellow members of these communities.

Also brief disclaimer, I, Phlurrii, am simply an ally to the disabled community, my partner in crime writing alongside me, ArtJunco on Instagram, is our resident community member ;]

Anyways onto the meat of this!

Below is a collection of some, emphasis on some, of the concept art and processes I went through to develop and create one of the two main characters, Lumae.

Here are some of the earliest ideas, the basic thoughts I had in my brain when developing this goober after a 3 hours pacing in my kitchen at 1 am when that inspiration struck. His hair was the HARDEST bit for me to figure out. Which sucked as usually the hair is one of the first things I figure out because of how much I love it, so it was Agony while brainstorming that part.

I also briefly considered a goatee, however it was so cruelly shot down by my dear friend. So in stead we compromised that he may get one later down the line story wise… and see how we feel then. However, upon finally figuring out his hair I was bloody elated, still has some tweaks now and then, but the base is there.

As for this next concept, this was actually the FIRST thing created for Lumae and what started everything else about his character/design! His eyes! They are still my favourite but about him and something I adore whole heartedly! They are the core of his character ;3c

These next few are early refs and mock ups of his full design, testing our colours, experimenting with shading, getting used to drawing humans again, and general concepts I had for him as a character! Also a sneak peak at Ayric, our second main goober for this story! Who was lovingly designed and created by ArtJunco!

And finally his most recent WIP ref! The only thing currently bothering me about his design is the colour for his boot covers, I have no idea what to do with them so I’d you have suggestion or ideas, sincerely, feel free to shoot an ask to the Anchor blog! I’d genuinely love outside opinions!

As for the main curiosity of why I’m doing this, for those that missed the last post, I’ll give a brief explanation below ;3

Butch and femme identities come from a time where lesbian meant sapphic. Lesbian was an umbrella term back then as we didn't have the word bisexual used for people like us. If you liked women, you were a lesbian, didn't matter if you *exclusively* liked women or not. So, all sapphics used them and identified with them. Bisexuals were right beside lesbians building the butch and femme culture. Even after the word bisexual began being used, bisexual butches and femmes existed.

Those identities are not even limited to only queer women. Even queer men use butch and femme.

I'm transmasc, and lesbians scare me. I know there are non-radical feminist lesbians, but so many of the lesbian spaces I know of have been taken over by TERF brainrot that 'lesbian' has practically become a dog-whistle (to me) for TERF. I see lesbian stuff and I feel afraid. Seeing pro-lesbian stuff has almost become like seeing aggressively patriotic or Christian stuff. It makes me worry that the person displaying lesbian pride is going to attack me for being trans. And I hate all that! I know nice lesbians, lesbians who accept trans people, lesbians who don't see me as my agab or a confused butch. I should not be afraid of other members of the queer community. But because of the TERF/rad-fem infection, I am. Sorry for coming into your inbox and ranting, your last post just sort of sparked something

no, that makes sense! i totally understand what you mean…sometimes i feel similar in the way that i don’t necessarily feel comfortable interacting with a lot of blogs centered around lesbianism anymore, simply because so many of them are radfems. it’s so aggravating to realize that your identity is being gatekept, I really hate it, and i hate that you’re scared of being attacked for being queer by other queer people…the point of a community is that we stand WITH each other, not against. i’m so disgusted that so many lesbian spaces have been taken over by radfems and terfs, especially because so many of us aren’t cis. it’s like they’re saying you can be one or the other, lesbian or not cis. sorry for replying to your rant with another one, i don’t check my inbox often, I just hate that even within the queer community we can’t feel completely accepted.

 So uh

This post has made quite a few people really fucking mad if the anons telling me to kms are anything to go by.

Therefore, I want to try and clear up a few things, because I fear the meaning behind the message was trying to share may have gotten lost in the unclear wording and poor grammar.

1. I myself am a lesbian, and genderqueer. Just know before you get mad at what I'm saying that this is coming from the point of view of a queer person.

2. I am not trying to attack fellow lesbians in any way. What I was trying to say was that transphobia is prominent in lesbian spaces, and that can make them feel unwelcoming for trans and nonbinary lesbians

3. I don't agree with the anon's comparing lesbian flags to white supremacy and christian propaganda, I think that's a bit extreme. What I do agree with is that TERFs taking over lesbian spaces excludes other lesbians

tl;dr The point of this post was not to attack lesbians for being themselves. I support that wholeheartedly. What I do not support is the exclusion and fear that follows trans and nb people in lesbian spaces. This was not supposed to be interpreted as an attack on sapphic, it was supposed to be an attack on transphobia. If me defending trans and nb people makes you upset or uncomfortable, I would suggest asking YOURSELF why you're so bothered by trans people being supported instead of attacking ME for standing with my fellow trans and nb lesbians.
