Slovácké divadlo oslaví svoji osmdesátou sezónu uvedením Shakespearovy komedie Sen noci svatojánské, režírované Janou Ryšánek Schmiedtovou, po 21 letech od předchozí inscenace.

i sit in my chair

in my room in my house

firelight dances up the wall

and shadows dance with it

a small fire is lit

for none larger is needed

my wife has passed

my children moved away, their old rooms closed

i cannot see much, but there is not much to see

there is only me to illuminate

and then i receive a call

i jump out of my seat

i never get calls

i pick up the phone and inquire

words conjugated by voices

sounds exchanged

and then a click

there is wonderful news!

a good friend is coming to visit!

and her family is coming as well

and they will be here soon

how wonderful to hear their voices

without knowing, i began to prepare

she will need a bed

and so will her children

and her brother! and her sister!

i jump up and begin to throw open doors

linens are washed, beds are made

my hand slides up to meet the switch on the walls of the rooms

and bright light is cast on the their contents

a school painting, band posters, a guitar without two strings

the incandescent glow projects them just as they were

with the beds now made

i will need to prepare a meal!

a record is put on as i cook

recipes i had all but forgotten

i remember how we used to dance in this kitchen

stopping only when reminded to by the smoke detector

i am setting the table

i have dusted the shelves and built up the fire

to warm the rooms left vacant for so long

when i receive a call

the receiver pressed to my ear, i inquire

her voice speaks before her words can

but they both tell me the same

i listen and exchange, as anybody would

and then a click

there will be no conpany

i am tired

i sit in my chair

in my room in my house

and as roaring flames lick the vaulted ceilings

i think

never before has a house been so empty as this
