Lyla Topaz-Pierce… my my my. I wonder who sent this in! The little girl is definitely more like her father, Sweet Pea. The temper, the lack of patience, how possessive she is of her belongings and her parents from a very young age but something that she does love is reading. From a few months old, Toni would read to her as she settled the little girl to bed and watch as she’d fall asleep before Toni would even finish the chapter. This continued into her young life, Toni bringing the little girl to bed with a new book every few days. The pair enjoying the moment together, immersing themselves in a book together until Lyla would fall asleep soundly. If Sweet Pea isn’t busy with the Serpents for Lyla’s bedtime, Toni would drag him to read story time with them too. The three of them squeezing onto a single bed unsuccessfully but Lyla wouldn’t care because she’d have both of her parents there to say goodnight. Despite things being far from perfect, it is moments like that with Lyla that tell Toni that everything is going to be okay and that her and Sweets are doing a good job as parents, that Lyla would grow up feeling loved which was something Toni often did not !!

                They’d been fighting so much, but when had they not fought? Usually it was over stupid little things but this time.. everything had elevated. She’d told Sweet Pea that she didn’t want to go to college, that she’d stay behind in Riverdale. How was she supposed to leave her family, her best friends and the guy she was in love with? It just didn’t seem like the right choice for her but he’d kept pushing her away during all these fights. He’d grown more hostile, they spent less time together and it always ended up with the two of them screaming at one another. 

                 The words were like a slap to the face but they made so much sense. It made sense why he was pushing her away, why he didn’t want to be around her so much and why he was shoving college down her throat. He didn’t love her, he’d lost the love he had for her… or had it ever been there? Had he just told her that so she’d stick around when he wanted someone and now he saw his way out of that… Her eyes brimmed with tears, hands shaking and the fight was lost. Her shoulders slumped, taking a step away from him as she tried to form some words.

                  Eventually her eyes met his, her heart aching and she wanted to beg him to love her. But she knew that she couldn’t force that onto anyone, no one could be made to love her. ❛ Did you.. did you ever love me, Sweet Pea? ❜ Toni whispered to him, the hurt was clear, voice was no longer loud and full of defence. It was broken, it was wavering from the emotions that threatened to spill over as she looked up to the man who owned her heart. There was no one else for Toni… but it seemed that she was not the one for him.
