the holiday movie elf was on the television screen in a low volume, as the fireplace burned some wood inches away. cozy knit throw on top of them as they rest ( & snuggle ) comfortably on the couch. snowflakes were falling down hard on the city outside. patrick took a deep breath, looking at david lovingly, resting his head on his partners shoulder.

❛ hard to believe christmas is a little under two weeks away. ❜ patrick murmured softly as he looks at the screen for a brief moment. neither of them were really watching will ferrell put maple syrup on his spaghetti, they were just enjoying each other's company. it was rare that they were both home at the same time, even having enough time for nice dinner. it was even a bonus that they both managed to get the day off for the next day, they were not even on call. because of that, they were able to do something special.

❛ did you want to do anything special, or fun tomorrow? ❜ he questioned as he glances to dvid just above the rim of his glasses.

patrick smirked and shook his head at his husbands cheesy line. even through the long shifts, the bad days in their chosen profession, finding time to smile and laugh was nice and welcomed. ❛ so true, and you have my heart. forever. ❜ he said, their hands joined together still. ❛ i would just have to find a way to legally ignore the no practicing medicine on loved ones rule. if such a thing like you needing heart surgery were to ever happen. ❜ he knew david was healthy , so they had nothing to worry about.

❛ i know he came from jackson monroe and somebody told me that he was a child actor in nick of time? that is crazy. I remember watching a few episodes of it as a kid. ❜ he might have been a little bit too old than the intended target audience; and the basic premise of the show was blurry to him besides time travel. that is about all he remembered from it. ❛ either way, I cannot wait to meet him. ❜

he took a moment to look around, sighing happily. wanting to prolong this as much as possible. but he knew that it was best to let his husband rest his eyes while he had the chance or go back to work. ❛ would you like me to go grab dinner for you? i plan to be heading out in about two hours after my evening rounds. ❜

ever since jackson monroe had closed down, the emergency department was swamped with more people than normal. that also meant that david was becoming used to working 48-hour shifts. he knew it came with the job when he became a doctor, but it was starting to wear him out. he had just finished a quick visit with a few of his patients when he felt he could get a small break in the doctor's lounge. opening the door, he tossed his stethoscope onto the couch & sat down before closing his eyes. he had NO IDEA how long he had been out when he heard the door open once more & through half-open eyes, spotted his husband.

he chuckled at his husband's response as he sat up to make room for him. looking down, he gave patricks hand a gentle squeeze. ❝ I know & I will, but if anything were to ever happen like that, you're the only one I'd trust my heart with. I mean you already have it, figuratively speaking, anyway. ❞ the corners of his eyes crinkled as he smiled. ❝ word gets around fast but yes, I do have a new resident. he's great & other than checking in a few times a day, I really trust his judgment. I think you guys would be good friends. ❞
