the naturals program at the fbi wasn't made for friendships, & it definitely wasn't made for whatever this is between you & michael.

you both are good at your jobs. he reads people like a book, stripping away the layers of other people's meticulously built masks with an infuriating smirk. & you▰well, you notice patterns. a change in habit, a shift in behavior, an inconsistency in the way a person moves or talks. little things no one else catches, but to you, they might as well be flashing neon lights.

so when michael looks at you, oh, you notice.

when his teasing becomes a little more pointed, when he hovers in doorways or leans in too close with a knowing smile, when his eyes narrow every time you do something unexpected▰you notice.

& it drives you crazy.

not because he's obnoxious (which, admit it, he is). not because he always needs to get the last word in. but because he sees you like nobody else does. & you don't know whether that's exciting or scary.

the case the naturals are working on is a brutal one. a serial offender targeting young women, each one disappearing after an uncanny pattern of near identical routines. they’re being watched before they disappear. stalked. hunted.

patterns.

that’s why you’re here.

michael sits across from you in the briefing room, arms folded, eyes staring intently at you. it's not out of character▰michael is always watching. always interpreting. but this is different. this is intense, evaluating, like he's attempting to draw the response directly from your head before you can voice it.

you take a breath. "he's not watching them. he's studying them."

dean fidgets beside you. "go on."

you touch the files spreaded out on the table. "each victim changed their routine just before they disappeared. not a significant change▰just a little one. one took a different route home from work. another changed supermarkets. one began morning jogs instead of evening ones." you glance up, catching michael's eye. "it's as if he was waiting for a change. a pattern break."

michael leans over, fingers tapping on the table. "he doesn't want to be predictable, either. if he attacks after the change, there's no definable pattern in his attack."

you nod. "right."

a sly smile jerks at his mouth, & something flashes through his eyes. admiration? humor? he's proud of you for solving the mystery▰quite possibly because it proves he believed in you when you first began.

you roll your eyes. "don't look so smug, townsend."

his smile grows.

later, following the briefing, you are alone in the kitchen, still studying the crime scene shots, looking for another thread to pull.

michael slides into the seat beside you, his presence as effortless as ever. “you know,” he muses, “for someone who spends so much time pointing out what people don’t notice, you’re pretty bad at taking your own advice.”

you glance at him. “what’s that supposed to mean?”

his gaze dips to the file in your hands, then back to you. “you’re exhausted.”

“i’m fine.”

michael huffs a laugh. “you always say that.”

because it's true. because you refuse to be or feel anything else.

& then michael reaches out, his finger tracing along the edge of the paper you're holding in your hand, & you feel▰he's not just discussing the case.

you look at him, your pulse racing.

michael townsend is always watching you.

& sometimes, you allow yourself to watch him too. sometimes.

it happens two nights later.

a breakthrough on the case.

a suspect.

you & michael are paired together, following a man who matches the profile to a t▰too to a t.

the night is cool, the streetlights buzzing softly as you creep along in near-silent footsteps. michael stays close, always in your line of sight, his body a steady presence beside yours.

& then▰

a sound.

a flash of movement.

before you have time to think, michael's arm is across your waist, pulling you back into the entrance of a doorway.

your breath hitches, but not out of fear.

michael's close. far too close. his warmth against you, a solid weight of him, the spread of his hand across the small of your back. the thud of his heartbeat clashing with your own, where the rise & fall of his chest matches yours.

neither you nor he moves. neither of you breathe.

inches from the curve of your ear, he whispers, "he's watching."

your heartbeat lurches.

you know he means the suspect. you know this is just part of the job.

but the tone he use slow, cautious, measured▰puts a chill in your spine.

michael townsend is watching you.

& for the first time, you wonder if maybe.. you do want him to.

the case closes three days later.

the suspect is taken into custody. the patterns you discovered were the solution to taking him down.

it should be over.

yet still, when you're standing outside the safe house that evening, your body tense with the heavy weight of exhaustion sinking into your bones & organs(if that even makes sense). oh, & you still have the sense that you're being watched.

not like the victims were. not like it makes your skin prickle.

but like it catches your breath.

you turn.

michael stands leaning against the railing, arms folded, watching you with that same traceless face.

you furrowed an eyebrow. "find something you enjoy, townsend?"

his lips curl, but his eyes remain serious. "always."

your stomach knots. not with fear. not with dread.

but with something else.

something you can't quite bring yourself to say.

& when michael townsend moves a step closer▰slow, measured, giving you every opportunity to back away.

you don't.

because maybe, just maybe..

you've been watching him, too.

a very quick explanation of kenny's backstory

// HISTORY.         kenny mason grew up on an isolated louisiana farm with his parents, 5 older sisters, aunts and uncles, as well as a few other folk who weren’t blood but were treated as they were. the farm was pretty self sufficient, the masons going to town every other week or so to sell at farmers markets and for supply runs. one particularly hot spring day, some of kenny's cousins went out hunting to bring back a deer to share with the family — a rather normal pastime for the mason boys — but something about this deer didn’t look right to kenny. the fur was matted down funny, the eyes bulged from the poor things skull. his cousins insisted that it was just the heat that did it to the poor buck and kenny wasn’t convinced. he tried to warn everyone off eating it, just in case, but because they are a "no waste" kinda family and all kenny had to go off of was a gut feeling they ate it anyways, and teased him to no end while doing it. kenny went hungry that night, and was the only one that didn't eat the deer’s meat. the changes didn’t take long, everyone on the farm started acting strange pretty quickly; it was little things at first — forgetfulness, listlessness, unable to sleep properly, and some began coming down with some sort of flu. then came the hostile and violent attitudes. It reached a fever pitch when in the early hours of the morning kenny snuck to the kitchen to investigate the source of a horrible ruckus, witnessing his father murdering one of his older sisters and eating her right there on the kitchen table. kenny watched in horror as everyone started turning bloodthirsty and decided then that it's time to go — the only one of his family he was able to pull away from the chaos is the youngest of his older sisters, but even she began to get aggressive, biting and scratching at his eyes. in the struggle he is forced to kill her to escape. he steals the family camper van and drives off, scared about what's happening to his family, absolutely devastated about killing his sister --- so he stays on the run, never settling down, living in the back of the camper van, afraid that some day he will be found out for the murder of his sister, or possibly blamed for the chaos at the farm. or worse still, hes scared that one day he will get sick just like they did.

i  won't  lie.  my  portrayal  is  different  than  what  you  would  expect  from  what  the  sources  from  which  ace is from.  manga  /  anime  comes  and  what  happens  to  it  pre  -  timeskip  and  post  time-skip.  while  i  have  important  details  listed  in  my  pinned's  meta  masterlist  and  also  in  my  carrd,  i  talk  about  it  i  know  that  some  facts  can  be  overlooked  (  which  is  no  problem  )  so  i  seen  other  blogs  do  things  like  these,  and  i  find  it  helpful  to  list  a  pill  of  the  canon's  blog  in  shorter  version  for  easy  understanding  of  what  to  expect  on  my  blog.  what's  listed  is  my  personal  analysis,  changes  and  what  is  incorporated  in  replies  within  the  one  piece  world.  triggering  content  ahead  so  be  warned.   any  character  mention  does  not  have  to  apply  to  the  muse  that  you  play.  you  don't  have  to  as  a  writer  acknowledge  these  things  /  we  can  come  to  terms  or  i  don't  mind  going  canon  vanilla  if  you  don't  wish  to  acknowledge  these  portrayal  infos.  i  don't  mind  worldbuilding  facts  along  with  other  people  as  well  and  in  fact,  it'd  be  happy  to  do  so. for more info click the links under certain sentences ! or head to my study directory in my pinned.

001. rouge  didn't  die  right  after  ace  was  born.  i  don't  like  that  fact,  i  don't  like  it  when  people  speculate  that  ace  was  over  a  year  old  before  he  left  his  mother's  belly.  that's  just  supernatural  to  me.  there's  nothing  said  that  rouge  was  anything  but  normal.  and  the  risk  of  death  for  a  child  who  is  longer  in  his  mother's  body  than  40  weeks  rises  really  high.  ace  would  have  died  if  rouge  had  kept  him  longer  than  a  month  over  the  estimated  birth  peroid.  while  i  understand  that  she  wanted  to  defend  him  with  this  was  never  said  to  be  risky,  it  is.  rouge  held  ace  in  her  womb  for  2  week  more  before  his  birth.  that  was  enough  time  for  garp  to  secretly  transport  her  to  a  safe  place  on  one  of  the  islands  on  the  south  blue.  she  gave  birth  to  ace  and  raised  him  for  3  more  years  before  her  health  began  to  deteriorate.  before  her  death,  she  entrusted  ace  to  garp.  

002. ace  was  13  by  the  time  he  met  luffy.  the  reason  for  the  outstretched  timeline  is  to  fit  the  fact  listed  above.  ace  was  raised  first  by  rouge  before  he  even  got  to  foosha  village.  ace  is  older  and  it  is  also  the  reason  of  my  canon  being  tied  to  the  canon  with  another's  person's  muse  (  law  ).  he  was  more  destructive  to  himself  than  he  was  to  sabo  or  luffy.  when  yes,  he  was  indeed  a  bitter  child  after  growing  up  to  understand  what  happened  to  him,  why  he  is  here  and  why  the  world  stands  closed  to  him  with  a  wall,  he  didn't  blame  anyone  but  himself  for  it  and  his  grief,  anger  wasn't  taken  out  as  much  on  luffy  as  he  was  taking  it  on  himself.

003. your  muse  has  obviously  no  prior  knowledge  of  his  past.  all  that  is  known  is  that  ace  is  a  pirate,  his  name  is  portgas  d.  ace  and  his  alias  is  fire  fist  ace.  since  forever  his  identity  has  been  hidden  by  him  at  the  cost  of  everything.  the  first  person  to  ever  know  who  ace  is,  who  his  biological  family  is,  is  sabo  and  then  deuce.  the  fact  that  ace  is  roger's  son  didn't  come  to  light  (  for  the  public  )  until  ace  was  thrown  in  jail  and  then  sentenced  to  death  which  he  avoided.  only  whitebeard  and  certain  members  of  the  crew  (  marco,  izou  )  knew  about  who  he  really  was.  his  priority  was  and  still  is  to  talk  as  little  as  possible  about  himself,  where  he  comes  from  and  the  only  parental  figure  he  adheres  to  is  whitebeard.  ace  considers  him  his  only  father,  because  he  has  no  memory  of  roger.  he  doesn't  hate  his  biological  father  to  the  point  of  disrespect.  he  just  thinks  he  owns  him  nothing.

004. ace  is  a  hunter  and  gambler  first  and  pirate  second.  living  for  a  really  long  time  in  a  forest  that  was  like  a  real  jungle.  filled  with  predators,  snakes,  crocodiles.  everything  you  can  imagine,  ace  fought  to  survive,  ace  hunted  to  be  able  to  bring  meat  back  to  dadan  to  be  able  to  feed,  to  be  useful  in  what  he  does.  he  has  incredibly  sharp  instincts.  he  has  insane  tracking  abilities,  knows  how  to  hunt  and  follows  his  own  hunting  code.  he  doesn't  harm  the  first  better  animals,  he's  not  cruel  to  them.  ace  in  fact  connects  very  much  with  animals,  and  they  resonate  with  him  just  as  much.  his  gambling  addiction  began  in  his  early  teens  when  he  played  to  win  money  with  adults  in  the  gray  terminal,  in  taverns  placed  within  the  goa  kingdom  to  earn  his  and  sabo's  common  goal.  he  would  steal  from  people,  pirates.  but  the  card  game  was  becoming  something  he  was  really  good  at.  his  addiction  can  be  cruel,  and  ace  is  really  serious  when  it  comes  to  gambling.

005. post  -  timeskip  when  ace  underwent  rehabilitation  from  the  damage  he  sustained  after  the  war  over  marineford  he  learned  to  use  haki.  like  luffy  and  his  crew  ace  spent  his  days  training,  improving  his  own  health  and  mentality.  his  haki  empowered  ability  of  the  mera  mera  no  mi  he  mastered  is  called  '  the  fudo  myoo  '  in  short,  a  god  of  fire.  much  like  luffy's  gears,  ace  extended  the  power  of  mera  mera  no  mi  thanks  to  his  hard  training.  the  fruit's  awakening  ability  is  called  the  demon  inferno,  allowing  ace  to  create  fire-like  creatures  that  are  independent  but  controlled  by  ace  and  his  flames.  are  a  living  part  of  him  and  have  inherited  behaviors  and  abilities  (  eg.  agility,  speed,  strength,  combat  ability  )  that  ace  observed  in  animals  during  his  life  as  a  hunter  /  during  his  voyages  and  adventures  over  the  seas.

006. ace  has  narcolepsy.  which  is  basically  a  sleeping  disease.  he  finds  it  hard  to  stay  awake  for  long  periods  of  time  which  causes  him  to  fall  asleep  suddenly  and  randomly.  he  sometimes  experiences  muscle  tone  which  is  basically  caused  by  strong  emotions  such  as  anger,  sadness  and  excitement  but  most  of  the  times  laughter  is  the  strongest  case.  there's  no  cure  to  this  disease  and  since  ace  doesn't  really  have  medication  for  this ��to  at  least  keep  the  symptoms  in  check  it  appears  pretty  frequently  in  his  case.  most  of  the  times  ace  falls  asleep  while  eating  because,  when  the  meal  is  rich  in  carbohydrates  and  protein  which  are  essential  to  build  up  strength  he  gets  an  uptake  of  tryptophan  from  the  protein  and  then  an  increase  of  serotonin.  eating  also  causes  blood  sugar  levels  to  rise,  which  can  lead  to  a  decrease  in  energy  and  the  more  he  feels  tired  the  easier  it  is  for  his  narcolepsy  to  trigger  suddenly.

007. ace  is  depressed.  maybe  he  doesn't  look  like  that  at  first  glance.  when  someone  meets  him  ace  seems  to  be  an  incredibly  kind,  carefree  and  confident  person.  and  yes,  he  is  exactly  like  that.  however,  ace  also  has  some  problems  with  his  mentality  that  were  born  when  he  was  a  child  left  behind  within  the  walls  of  the  goa  kingdom.  he  also  struggles  with  a  lot  of  insecurity  when  it  comes  to  his  relationship,  self-worth  and  survival  trauma  after  the  war.  ace  post-  timeskip  doesn't  resemble  himself  in  some  aspects  that  happened  before  the  war.  it  changed  him,  the  way  he  had  to  live  changed  him.  what  happened  between  luffy  and  him  changed  his  perspective  about  a  few  things,  about  his  will  to  live.  he  wants  to  live,  he  finally  understood  that  he  doesn't  want  to  die.  he  wants  to  live,  even  if  it  is  a  sin.  even  if  his  existence  is  hell  on  earth,  he  wants  to  live  because  luffy  proved  to  him  that  despite  who  ace  thinks  he  is,  there  are  people  who  love  and  loved  him.

008. ace  is  indifferent  heat  or  high  temperatures.  they  are  completely  indifferent  to  him,  and  he  would  most  likely  feel  a  change  in  temperature  only  if  something  were  hotter  than  his  orange  flames.  (  these  flames  reach  around  1,100°c  to  1,200°c  /  2,000º  f  to  2,200º  f.  )  otherwise  ace  does  not  feel  a  change  in  climate,  temperature-wise  would  be  logical  considering  when  he  was  moving  through  the  deserts  in  alabasta  his  clothing  was  completely  black.  as  is  well  known,  black  or  dark  colours  attracts  heat  and  sunlight  but  it  made  absolutely  no  impression  on  him  even  when  he  spent  hours  in  the  bare  sun  in  the  middle  of  the  desert.

the rpc's distancing from riverdale is very much understood, however, my portrayal of archie is incredibly personalized and wholly adapted to a personal trajectory of mine over the last half a decade. inspiration is taken from the cw show for his backstory, but my default verse for archie is only vaguely season five - like, but that's about it as far as similarities go. this character is a comfort muse unfortunately and incredibly comfortable for me to write simply because of how long i've been doing it. if you hate riverdale, i promise i've heard it all before and am not here to hash it out, but to write what's practically become an original character for me. if you don't wanna be here, simply scroll or block, beloved.

i'll be frank : i write pretty sporadically, and this goes for ic and ooc interactions. i can get overwhelmed juggling responsibilities often, and socializing is one of the first things to go.     i un  /  fortunately work 40 hour work weeks, and only get every other weekend off,  so my schedule makes consistent activity difficult on top of my focus. if i can successfully plot something with you, i find my muse is sooo much more involved, but i'm contradictorily bad at it due to the reasons above ; it's truly hit or miss, and i understand if that becomes frustrating for any of my partners.    sometimes i’ll be able to get out a couple drafts a week,  others merely once,  or not at all. if i haven’t replied or answered something in a while,  please know it’s nothing personal, i’m just taking my time until i feel good about what i can put down.     writing is a hobby i enjoy, but if you're looking for a blog with any sort of regularity, this isn't the one for you. i have other rp blogs i try to run as well,  therefore i might be very slow on this one at times.     i can be quite the flaky rp partner,  so i apologize in advance for that and completely understand if my antics   [  or lack thereof  ]   result in an unfollow. if i go longer than two months without activity, i'll try to make a hiatus notice.

POWERS BREAKDOWN.

as stature, cassie can grow and shrink at will — & without the will. microdosing on pym particles from a young age, they ingrained themselves with her heart and allow her to use their abilities without the need of a suit or canisters. the only catch is, being attached to her person as they are, they react and shift with her emotions; guilt causes her to shrink, anger causes her to grow, and so-on. more specifically, cassie can grow up to 250 feet tall, though at her limit it's difficult to maintain for long; the enhanced size grants her greater strength ( 25-75 tons ) & greater durability. on the other scale, she can shrink down to half an inch, roughly. she is by all means similar to ant-man, giant man, etc. etc. the big difference being that it all comes from her and not from a suit. as stinger, following the loss of her heart, cassie retains her ability to grow and shrink except more in line with other size-shifters — though she still has the pollution of pym particles in her system from so long with them, the vast majority come from her new suit. aside from that, her suit is equipped with a pair of bio-synthetic wings, a set of wrist blasters, and a helmet which allows her to communicate with over 5000 species of insects. as cassie, she's been taking self-defense and various combat classes since she was young as a result of being kidnapped so often; her hand-to-hand combat is no joke for somebody her age. she has personally trained with wolverine and captain america. during her time with the initiative, she undertook classes pertaining to military training and strategies.
