Everyone had been telling Emmy for years now that she would be a writer inevitably, a fact she hadn’t ever believed. She had only ever been able to write non-fiction before, and was sure she was destined for a life of mediocre journalism. She had always loved fiction, of course, and she wanted to be a novelist, but she could never get her ideas to transfer down on paper correctly. That was until Misfit Manor. It wasn’t a happy tale by any means, even in its conception, and Emmy had spent a fair amount of the days spent writing it also in tears, but it had been a labor of love, and it was, after all, a full fledged novel. It had been Leo’s mother’s idea to send it out to publishers. Emmy, as always, had underestimated herself and expected to be turned down by every one. She actually heard back from a few. A couple fell through, but this one seemed to be working out. She was at a meeting at one of the publishing houses that had been considering her.
As always, social interactions left Emmy a little frazzled. This one considerably more so, since apparently they had loved her book and actually wanted to buy it. Even after months of her friends telling her this was going to work out, the fact that she had actually just sold a novel was incredibly nerve-wracking. She was still looking back at the man behind the desk as she exited his office, smiling, thanking him for maybe the thousandth time for even considering publishing her novel. The door was swinging shut behind her as she seemed to hit a wall, only the wall gave away slightly, and wasn’t a wall at all, it was a person. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry,” the words tumbled out of her mouth as she attempted to right both herself and the stranger. “That is so my bad, I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
