If I may: I would not presume to suggest what categories to cut during the Oscars show but – Cinematography and Editing are at the very heart of our craft. They are not inherited from a theatrical tradition or a literary tradition: they are cinema itself.
Även förhandstippade Alfonso Cuarón stämde in i kritiken:
In the history of CINEMA, masterpieces have existed without sound, without color, without a story, without actors and without music. No one single film has ever existed without CINEMAtography and without editing.
Markerar mina tippade vinnare i fetstil.
Best Picture:
“Black Panther” “BlacKkKlansman” “Bohemian Rhapsody” “The Favourite” “Green Book” “Roma” “A Star Is Born” “Vice”
Den tidigaste förhandsfavoriten var publiksuccén »A Star is Born«.
Lead Actor:
Christian Bale, “Vice” Bradley Cooper, “A Star Is Born” Willem Dafoe, “At Eternity’s Gate” Rami Malek, “Bohemian Rhapsody” Viggo Mortensen, “Green Book”
Lead Actress:
Yalitza Aparicio, “Roma” Glenn Close, “The Wife” Olivia Colman, “The Favourite” Lady Gaga, “A Star Is Born” Melissa McCarthy, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”
Supporting Actor:
Mahershala Ali, “Green Book” Adam Driver, “BlacKkKlansman” Sam Elliott, “A Star Is Born” Richard E. Grant, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” Sam Rockwell, “Vice”
Supporting Actress:
Amy Adams, “Vice” Marina de Tavira, “Roma” Regina King, “If Beale Street Could Talk” Emma Stone, “The Favourite” Rachel Weisz, “The Favourite”
Director:
Spike Lee, “BlacKkKlansman” Pawel Pawlikowski, “Cold War” Yorgos Lanthimos, “The Favourite” Alfonso Cuarón, “Roma” Adam McKay, “Vice”
Animated Feature:
“Incredibles 2,” Brad Bird “Isle of Dogs,” Wes Anderson “Mirai,” Mamoru Hosoda “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” Rich Moore, Phil Johnston “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman
Animated Short:
“Animal Behaviour,” Alison Snowden, David Fine “Bao,” Domee Shi “Late Afternoon,” Louise Bagnall “One Small Step,” Andrew Chesworth, Bobby Pontillas “Weekends,” Trevor Jimenez
Adapted Screenplay:
“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” Joel Coen , Ethan Coen “BlacKkKlansman,” Charlie Wachtel, David Rabinowitz, Kevin Willmott, Spike Lee “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty “If Beale Street Could Talk,” Barry Jenkins “A Star Is Born,” Eric Roth, Bradley Cooper, Will Fetters
Original Screenplay:
“The Favourite,” Deborah Davis, Tony McNamara “First Reformed,” Paul Schrader “Green Book,” Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie, Peter Farrelly “Roma,” Alfonso Cuarón “Vice,” Adam McKay
Cinematography:
“Cold War,” Lukasz Zal “The Favourite,” Robbie Ryan “Never Look Away,” Caleb Deschanel “Roma,” Alfonso Cuarón “A Star Is Born,” Matthew Libatique
Se den, så förstår ni.
Best Documentary Feature:
“Free Solo,” Jimmy Chin, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi “Hale County This Morning, This Evening,” RaMell Ross “Minding the Gap,” Bing Liu “Of Fathers and Sons,” Talal Derki “RBG,” Betsy West, Julie Cohen
Best Documentary Short Subject:
“Black Sheep,” Ed Perkins “End Game,” Rob Epstein, Jeffrey Friedman “Lifeboat,” Skye Fitzgerald “A Night at the Garden,” Marshall Curry “Period. End of Sentence.,” Rayka Zehtabchi
Best Live Action Short Film:
“Detainment,” Vincent Lambe “Fauve,” Jeremy Comte “Marguerite,” Marianne Farley “Mother,” Rodrigo Sorogoyen “Skin,” Guy Nattiv
Best Foreign Language Film:
“Capernaum” (Lebanon) “Cold War” (Poland) “Never Look Away” (Germany) “Roma” (Mexico) “Shoplifters” (Japan)
Film Editing:
“BlacKkKlansman,” Barry Alexander Brown “Bohemian Rhapsody,” John Ottman “Green Book,” Patrick J. Don Vito “The Favourite,” Yorgos Mavropsaridis “Vice,” Hank Corwin
Sound Editing:
“Black Panther,” Benjamin A. Burtt, Steve Boeddeker “Bohemian Rhapsody,” John Warhurst “First Man,” Ai-Ling Lee, Mildred Iatrou Morgan “A Quiet Place,” Ethan Van der Ryn, Erik Aadahl “Roma,” Sergio Diaz, Skip Lievsay
Sound Mixing:
“Black Panther” “Bohemian Rhapsody” “First Man” “Roma” “A Star Is Born”
Production Design:
“Black Panther,” Hannah Beachler “First Man,” Nathan Crowley, Kathy Lucas “The Favourite,” Fiona Crombie, Alice Felton “Mary Poppins Returns,” John Myhre, Gordon Sim “Roma,” Eugenio Caballero, Bárbara Enrı́quez
Original Score:
“BlacKkKlansman,” Terence Blanchard “Black Panther,” Ludwig Göransson “If Beale Street Could Talk,” Nicholas Britell “Isle of Dogs,” Alexandre Desplat “Mary Poppins Returns,” Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman
Original Song:
“All The Stars” from “Black Panther” by Kendrick Lamar, SZA “I’ll Fight” from “RBG” by Diane Warren, Jennifer Hudson “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from “Mary Poppins Returns” by Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, Andrew Wyatt and Benjamin Rice “When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs For Wings” from “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” by David Rawlings and Gillian Welch
Kvällens mest givna vinst?
Makeup and Hair:
“Border” “Mary Queen of Scots” “Vice”
Costume Design:
“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” Mary Zophres “Black Panther,” Ruth E. Carter “The Favourite,” Sandy Powell “Mary Poppins Returns,” Sandy Powell “Mary Queen of Scots,” Alexandra Byrne
Visual Effects:
“Avengers: Infinity War” “Christopher Robin” “First Man” “Ready Player One” “Solo: A Star Wars Story”

Browns Draft Review
The 2017 NFL Draft has come and gone. Many surprising picks and trades were made throughout the seven rounds where teams hope to have acquired great players. Personally, I have been waiting for the draft since the Browns last game evaluating players who I felt could be potential fits for Hue Jackson’s offense and Gregg Williams’ defense. Although I do not have inside information into the Browns War Room, I know that Executive Vice President Sashi Brown wanted to be aggressive and smart maximizing the draft with 11 draft picks. I have provided a grade for each selection the Browns made including trades.
Round 1, Pick 1
Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M
Sashi Brown said that he knew two weeks ago what player that the Browns were going to select at the #1 overall pick. I knew that Garrett was going to be the selection all along and that the Mitch Trubisky rumors about him being under “serious consideration” were alternative facts. Garrett is a physical specimen who will start on the weak-side and Emmanuel Obgah will be on the strong-side providing immediate impact to a defense that ranked 30th in sacks and 31st against the run. Garrett, on paper, gives Cleveland one of the best young defensive lines in football.
Grade: A
Contract: 4 years, $30.47 Million with 5th year option ($20.25 Million Signing Bonus)
Round 1, Pick 12 (Traded to the Houston Texans)
Browns Received: 25th Overall Pick and 2018 1st Round Pick
Texans Received: 12th pick (Selected Deshaun Watson)
At first, I was frustrated with the trade because the Browns had the options of selecting Malik Hooker or OJ Howard who could contribute from Day 1. The Browns traded with the Texans swapping the 12th and 25th picks and received a 2018 1st round pick giving the Browns the Texans first and second round pick in 2018. Houston is in win now mode and Watson has big-game pedigree, however, he will have to learn the complex offense of Head Coach Bill O’Brien. Overall, I wanted the Browns to take Hooker, but obtaining a 1st round pick next year is good although it will most likely be in the 20s.
Grade: B+
Round 1, Pick 25 (Pick from Houston Texans)
Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan
Initially, I did not like this pick at all, but I had to remember what Gregg Williams wants on defense. Peppers will be a strong safety and used in nickel packages which Gregg Williams primarily runs. He was the leader of the defense making plays on zone blitzes and tackles in the backfield. A bonus is that he is a playmaker on special teams in returning kicks and punts and has experience on offense in special packages. My issue with Peppers is that he does not force turnovers (1 INT and ZERO Forced Fumbles in three years), hard time shedding off blocks against the run, and not known for his coverage ability. I believe he can learn with his competitive nature and possess fire. Overall, Peppers can help with his versatility, passion, and energy.
Grade: B-
Contract: 4 years, $10.35 Million with 5th year option ($5.66 Million Signing Bonus)
Round 1, Pick 29 (Traded with the Green Bay Packers)
Browns Received: 29th Overall Pick
Packers Received: 33rd Overall Pick (Kevin King), 108th Overall Pick (4th round)
David Njoku, TE, Miami (FL)
This was an aggressive move that I believe will be a great pick, however, I thought that Njoku may be available at pick 33. I watched a couple of Miami games and Njoku made Brad Kaaya look good. He is the modern NFL tight end who is a matchup nightmare with his size, athleticism, and hands. He is 20 years old so he has a lot of learning to do and improvement as an in-line blocker is needed. Njoku will get the opportunity to get first team reps in training camp as Gary Barnidge was released.
Grade: B+
Contract: 4 years, $9.53 Million with 5th year option ($5.06 Million Signing Bonus)
Round 2, Pick 52
Deshone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
We took a quarterback! Kizer, once heralded as a Top-10 pick, fell due to inconsistency with accuracy, holding the ball too long, time mismanagement, and maturity issues (i.e. comment regarding Tom Brady/Cam Newton). Kizer has the arm strength and mobility that is desired for the position and, if he can improve in decision making and mature on and off the field, this could potentially be the quarterback of the future. The expectation would be for him to learn from Osweiler and Kessler, however, he will most likely play this year as the Browns have not had one quarterback play all 16 games since Tim Couch in 2001.
Grade: A-
Round 3, Pick 65
Larry Ogunjobi, DT, University of North Carolina-Charlotte
A 3-technique defensive tackle was a need for the switch to the 4-3 defense and Ogunjobi was noticed at the Senior Bowl where the Browns coached. He started playing football as a high school sophomore leading to him earning a scholarship to UNC-Charlotte. Ogunjobi ability to rush the passer will have him useful on 3rd downs as he can affect the passing game with penetration. The question is whether he can become a three down player as the playing the run is an area of improvement. Overall, Ogunjobi will be in a rotation with Desmond Bryant, Xavier Cooper, and Jamie Meder getting the opportunity to learn early.
Grade: B-
Round 4, Pick 126 (Trade with the Denver Broncos)
Browns Receive: 126th pick and the 252th pick (7th round)
Broncos Receive: 145th pick and 175th pick
Howard Wilson, CB, Houston
Wilson has had some injuries which drop him, but the kid can play. Smooth hips who plays well in zone coverage as he can read the eyes of the quarterback and get a jump on the ball. Wilson is a willing tackler which is a plus. He is a frail defensive back who needs NFL conditioning and coaching up.
Grade: C
Round 5, Pick 160 (Trade with the New York Jets)
Browns Receive: 160th pick (5th round) and the 224th pick (7th Round)
Jets Receive: 181st pick (5th Round) and the 188th pick (6th round)
Roderick Johnson, OT, Florida State
Johnson, a three-year starter for Florida State, played left tackle possessing the height, length, and hands. The downside is that he is technically flawed due to his lack of power and little flexibility which is exposed in bull rushes against the run and pass. He is a poor run-blocker who has awful pad level due to his tall frame. There is some potential there but he will have to make the slide to the right side as he needs to gain strength.
Grade: C-
Round 5, Pick 181
Caleb Brantley, DT, Florida
Brantley is a second-round talent who fell to the fifth round due to assaulting a woman three weeks prior to the draft and he said that he was a lazy player. With that being said, he is a 3-technique who has the ability to be a three-down player who can penetrate whenever he wants through guards and tackles. He can manage the run with his strength to shoot both the one and two gaps. He could be a special player but he must want to succeed for himself and stay out of trouble.
Note: Sashi Brown mentioned in interview that they many not keep Brantley.
Grade: A (Depends on the team keeping him)
Round 7, Pick 224
Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona State
The Lou Groza Award winner has a powerful leg that provides trajectory on his kicks. Gonzalez holds the FBS record for most FGs (96) and six additional records. Last season, he was 23 of 25 on field goals (92%) with 7 of 9 field goals from 50+ yards (78%). For his career, his touchback percentage was 75 percent. Cody Parkey was a decent kicker, however, you need a good kicker when the wind chill and gust start to occur in Late November, Early December. He could win the kicking job.
Grade: A
Round 7, Pick 252
Matthew Dayes, RB, NC State
Dayes is a one-cut back who has good vision to find holes to accelerate. He is not a big guy a 5′9 and 205 pounds, but he had over 1,100 yards at 10 touchdowns in the ACC. He lacks power and would be a longshot to make the roster and/or practice squad.
Grade: C
Areas of need
Cornerback- An experience corner that can play the nickel when Peppers is playing in the box would help. Briean Boddy-Calhoun was a great pickup as an undrafted free agent last season flashing potential, however, you can never have enough defensive backs.
Free Safety- I am surprised that we did not draft a free safety at all especially after passing up Malik Hooker. Ed Reynolds II is not a starter and the Browns will pay for it when Joe Haden or Jamar Taylor get beat in coverage. Hopefully, there is someone they are eyeing on the undrafted rookies or a veteran.
Wide Receiver- Corey Coleman will have more responsibility this upcoming season and Kenny Britt will provide some playmaking skills. Who is the third wide receiver? Higgins? Payton? Louis? They are inexperienced and unproved which does not bode well for whoever will start as quarterback. Another receiver is needed.
Overall, I believe the Browns had a very productive draft placing emphasis on the defensive side of the ball where Gregg Williams will try to maximize Garrett as an edge rusher, implement Ogunjobi and Brantley (if kept) as rotating defensive lineman, and utilize Peppers and nickel and dime packages. Hue Jackson said that Kizer will have a chance to compete for the starting QB job, but he is not ready and needs time to grasp an NFL playbook. Johnson and Wilson will be developmental prospect that may be on the practice squad.
My grade for the Browns is a B+.

Text
It's a good question, really, and a fair one too. Why go on? Especially for someone like him, a ghoul, with the threat of going feral always looming over him. Not that he has any intention of answering the question. Not fully, not honestly.
"I find spite to be particularly motivatin'." Which isn't entirely untrue but it's hardly the whole truth. His hatred of Vault-Tec, the promise of finding out the whole truth keeps him going. But what is that, really, if not hope of some kind?
Head shifted to the side, Caleb's eyes lowered toward the ground in consideration of The Ghoul's thoughts. Hope could kill, he knew that. Hope was all the things you controlled in life that could be changed to make the future worth living for. A pre-war sentiment, mostly. It was a real mistake to believe that anyone had enough control over the Wasteland for hope to be useful in anything other than keeping pipe dreams and wishful thinking alive.
“ So why go on living without it? ” He lifted his gaze back up to meet the other's, brow furrowed in question. Along with some baser human instincts— of which, survival was a form of hope— it was a vice he still couldn't shrug off, no matter what he did. The only thing that truly seemed to help was having the presence of Doubt to help balance the act. “ If you really can't change anything, I mean... What would be the point? ”
