𝗜𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆, 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀. Living in the Dock Ward (as his home, shown in game to reside by the waters, would squarely land him), reveals a handful of things about our favorite mage. For starters, far from lavish, these more rough-and-tumble neighborhoods is home to those citizens more familiar with labor. It held more dangers than other wards and offered fewer sights less besmirched by grime, and what's more, as it is squabbling at its quietest and deafening at its loudest, it is, most would tell you, far from ideal. Still, this is where Gale lives, his tower that he looks to with an exceptional amount of fondness. Upon purchasing it, of course, it had been the one of the premiere locales in his list of houses. He wasn't born wealthy, truthfully, and as such, hadn't exactly the means to go off elsewhere, but for a young man with magic enough to stun his goddess, a few spells here and there can go a long way.
That said, despite his mannered air, he is, he would tell you, of a more humble background. Growing up, he'd only his mother and the help of her family to rear him right. He was never poor, mind you, but he didn't have the luxuries that his more 'sophisticated' air might initially impress. In fact, were it not for his brilliance, he may have very well achieved a considerably different life. However, a child prodigy as he was, he had managed to win the tutelage of the revered Elminster. In turn, the famed wizard had took to Gale, training him expertly into a well-learned mage, and in fact, Elminster even helped when paying for his schooling, which, on a monthly basis, required 10 gold pieces. As everyone already knows, Blackstaff Academy was neither very cheap nor easy to stay in. Still, relying less on finances and more on his brilliance, even when other great mages were exceptionally well off, he managed to keep up and even surpass.
Under Mystra, his propelling fame truthfully earned him a comfortable amount of gold. In less ravishing degrees, he once more found that financial backing after taking a rather hard hit following his failing with Mystra.
