my ranting about noko's color took attention away from this post i think but it's a good post. pokemon and yo-kai watch have such clearly different design principles that it makes this kind of thing really funny to me.

i think my favorite instances of pokemon and yo-kai with similar inspirations are the ones where you can barely tell they have the same inspiration. like. jibanyan and espeon are both based on nekomata. frostina/blizzaria and froslass are both yuki-onna. komasan and growlithe are both (at least according to bulbapedia on the latter cuz i really doubt it) komainu. honestly basically the only one i can think of where it's obvious are like. walkappa and lombre skdjfljfssfdsfdkljfds-

#puppy rambles #yo-kai watch #pokemon #like. i think yo-kai watch leans more towards making yo-kai that are just #straight-up people #whereas even most human-like pokemon are still clearly not just humans #and have something separating them from actual human beings #even if that's just like fuckin'. machop being gray #or some shit like that #also early gen pokemon didn't have a lot of anthros #gen 5+ leaned into it more i think #but there's still a good amount of ferals #whereas yo-kai watch has like #rudy. manjimutt (who's an ambiped so he doesn't even really count). noko #... that's basically it #basically every other animal yo-kai is some level of anthro #even if it's just. being still regular sized but bipedal like jibbers the koma bros and usapyon #meanwhile digimon is like a perfect in-between i think #but also the higher stages have less feral digimon than the lower stages #which kind of bugs me #side note but there's literally no regular ass cat rookie digimon #liollmon and coronamon are both lions #i'm pretty sure literally the only housecats are gatomon mikemon and meicoomon #who are all champions-#and also all anthro. i prefer ferals #... i'm realizing these tags probably reveal how much of a furry i am #i. don't think feral is really a term. outside of furries #.......... i feel like it was already obvious though ksldfjfsdklfkjfds-
