i guess i've been doing this for a while but it's worth noting how fascinating it is that, by having accumulated a basic mandarin vocabulary, my brain is now actually able to listen to the mandarin and read the english subs and then piece the puzzle together to get closer to the original meaning. i feel like i'm able to catch much more nuance this way and it makes me feel happy
#. like just now xiao heng said sth like 你真是无心的东西#. and it was translated as 'you are heartless'#. which is not exactly wrong#. but it totally missed the 东西 part. which gives it a bit of a different air imo idk#. it's just crazyyy bc when i first watched cdramas i got exhausted quickly bc i couldn't stop trying to understand the audio while#. simultaneously reading the subs#. like i couldn't turn it off#. but 1) I've gotten so much better at it and 2) re: mandarin i don't even need to turn it off anymore fjfjfjdks#. thanks to learning mandarin by osmosis i guess...#r watches#r watches the double
