when gojou told megumi about how their ancestors with their same respective techniques killed one another, judging by megumi's uniform, gotta assume . . . that'd had to have been 2016 - 2017, anywhere immediately around tsumiki's curse and the night parade. gojou clarifies what he's implying by telling him this, that he holds conviction in megumi's strength and not that he should be used as this one - time - use hand grenade. yet, that's kinda what megumi takes from it, and by 2018, gojou can see this pretty clearly. one month after being confronted about it, megumi admits to himself that he never necessarily believed that this history lesson alone proved his potential &. ultimately falls back to that sacrifice bunt gojou'd flicked him on the head about. and then that resulting domino effort led a whole lot of people to death.

anyway, it's important to note that the prerequisite for gojou's tutelage was always on the basis that he was getting something in return, that he'd be able to reap the benefits of his students' strength and hard work in the end &. leave behind a world that's worth all this. but then there's all these connecting threads, the painfully earnest roots of why gojou started any of this at all when he could've had his pick of life paths, could've gone for glory or could've gone totally postal if he'd decided he still just didn't care for it all.

the timeline tells on itself, every significant landmark going hand in hand with these strides and these decisions, his own growth as a person and as a teacher, and gojou's perpetually stuck in a cycle of always making up for his own past shortcomings. he's buried under the weight of his own good intentions. it's like a funny skit, or just a really sad one. there's love here. he just can't see it as a good thing.

actually evil, but also kinda beautiful how a love from getou's past &. a love from his present both just ultimately wanted the same thing. bc . . . . they, y'know, loved him.

there's more bad gojo takes born every single day than there are pages of him in the manga, but the gojo is a lazy teacher and he never trained anyone and all his kids hate him one actually connects rlly well with this one aspect to him that i'd been thinking about re : his teaching style. just, on one hand there's him and that total cocky eagerness to accept responsibility for his students' successes, but also . . . the way that he knows he isn't always gonna be the best man for the job, and how easily he's able to identify this. for someone like maki who'd never put stock in strength gained from leaning on others, gojo wasn't a teacher so much as just an operating space, a green light, an available room for the trial &. error of self navigation. for yuuta, and for yuji, he'd tossed them into deep ( but personally controlled ) waters, watched them learn to float, and found great value in what they could learn from others that gojo himself couldn't provide.

there's no ego here, no possession or control. he does what he realistically can, and makes decisions based on what's objectively best for them, even when that means turning to outside sources for help. basically : he's a resource provider. whatever it is you need to succeed, he'll notice, he'll see it, and he'll make it happen. he's nearly never gonna be the one there when you reach the end, but he'll be the one who's set you up with the necessary materials to start. a man, teaching to fish, fed for life, etc. etc. those are the clever &. capable comrades he wants in this world.
