Current obsession: Cats. I don't know. My ever lingering interest in wwii. The German perspective, the civilian perspective, society both Western and Eastern and the response to it. Social culture in Germany from 1910ish to 1960ish. Ripuarian dialects (which I can barely research because my German is ridiculously poor and subpar at best). Sexuality during wartime + post war Europe. The loss of niche cultures and dialects in post war Europe. How Germany and Europe have reconciled with the past + how it hasn't. The connection between everything sociological and anthropological past and present and how it makes me feel totally unhinged.

More distantly and faintly because I can only have One Obsession to dedicate myself to in this lifetime — Japanese folklore, the myth of the 'American' cowboy in modern memory and the exaggeration. Twentieth century industrialization and loss. Italian Mafia both in Italy and the US. Werewolf lore. Cinema as a whole esp the birth of it up through the early 90s.

I actually went into this live with the purpose of reporting it, and heard her say “if you’re new, follow me on Insta,” so that’s probably another goal of making these; even if they can’t make money on tiktok from them, they can direct people to a site where they can. Also as I was looking through the reasons to report a live, the closest I could find was “nudity and sexual content,” which this doesn’t really fall into and it’s so so so frustrating that they walk that line of plausible deniability (“what? I’m just putting my makeup on. I’m fully clothed. Don’t sexualize my body”).

So apparently “Jesus” is coming back soon and so is “god”. According to religious people i’ve spoken with, they’re “excited to give god and jesus a huge hug and thank them for everything”. How many times have they said that these magical beings are coming back and it never happened? I’m pretty sure they’ve been saying it at least once every decade for the past 2,000 years. I remember that “god” was supposed to come to earth during 2013. Never happened. Now it’s 2021. Let’s wait and see.
