#i love chill fantasies ouuu#i need more lizel & the king content#LIKE? what is the lore !!#i also need someone pick to pick the novels AURGH#maybe i just aristocratic characters tbhh#jeweler richard im looking at YOUU
ANOTHER POST I MISSED IN THE TAG HELLO
Did I hear Lizel and the king? :3c Did I hear... interest in the novels?
Take my hand. I'm taking this as an excuse to yell about the king.
The first thing you need to know is that Lizel and the king are Categorically Absurd. If you can accept this premise, I will share the lore with you.
NO FOR REAL THEY'RE INSAAAANE but most of that has not been revealed (in translation) yet. We know, of course, that Lizel is the prime minister, second in power to the king. We know that Lizel was the king's tutor and still thinks of him fondly as "his former student", Lizel's go-to way of talking about the king without actually saying "king" and revealing his noble status.
Some other things we know, some of which are easy to miss:
the king is young! He's about Eleven's age, early 20s
the king is the most powerful magician in the history of their kingdom. Teleportation or transfer magic is unique to the royal bloodline, but only Lizel's king can transfer whole armies
on that topic, of course we know that Lizel's gun works via royal bloodline teleportation magic! As a duke, Lizel is related by blood to the royal family from a marriage a couple generations back.
Also yeah, Lizel's position is duke. He's young to take over the position, especially since his dad is still around, but it might have strengthened his position after His Majesty promoted him to prime minister
because yeah that was straight nepotism. His Majesty wasted no time making sure Lizel would be right by his side always
who could forget that His Majesty literally said "This kingdom is worthless without you." (manga vol6, ch29)
literally what condition would their kingdom be in if not for Lizel taming this king??
NEVER FORGET THAT THE KING IS A (FORMER) DELINQUENT
Lizel is probably the only one who thinks "former". The king is very, very good at being a king, but he's still wild
The citizens love the king for being a former delinquent
There are a couple short stories and some events later on that reveal these things about Lizel and the king, but: they both have a sense of justice. It's easy to miss because it's not the grand, shounen protag style sense of justice, but very much the both of them use their authority to help people. They are extremely selfish, like EXTREMELY, but that selfishness is tempered by them truly just caring about other people, and, as nobles, they have a rather broad view of things. For Lizel, we see this in the way he protects and enhances Gil's reputation, something that impacts how he is treated, even going so far as to [redacted for spoilers coming up in vol 11]. For the king, we know that he runs a kingdom! This kingdom is not only his home, it's Lizel's home--it may be worthless without Lizel, but Lizel needs a place to come home to, and there's just a lot one can do with the authority and resources of a kingdom behind you, so the king will be a good king. He will take care of his citizens so that the kingdom can thrive, so that he can do Lizel proud.
Oh yeah and the king can sense where Lizel is via the earrings (THE EARRINGS. ARE SO MUCH. THERE'S A SIDE STORY I NEED TO TRANSLATE)
(Mickey Mouse voice) That's a surprise clue that will help us later! Don't forget the earrings are full to bursting of His Majesty's magic. :3c You'll know we're getting close to Something Incredible when Lizel and co. visit the tropics
grabbing you by the shoulders Lizel can be so at ease in this entirely new world because he trusts the king that much. He's not even surprised when they make first contact. Only one person could do something so absurd as tear a window between worlds and it's his king. THE FAITH LIZEL HAS IN HIS KING
and on the other side, the adoration the king has for Lizel. That's his teacher, his right hand man, the only one who can stop the king's rampages, the only one who can really keep up with him! They mean so so much to each other
Vol 6, the king mentions that he would have Lizel's father executed for interrupting his chat with Lizel if he weren't Lizel's father. As just a little teaser, don't want to spoil... being important to Lizel is a pretty good defense, UNLESS the king perceives someone to be a threat to his relationship with Lizel anyway.
Bonus knowledge: His Majesty is the only character who's NOT an only child
We've only seen a bit of their relationship, but it's one of the best and most fascinating in the series. These two men have shaped each other. No one else is as important.
discovered that a gentle noble's vacation recommendation actually has a fandom so now im binge rereading the entire thing (i forgot how much i enjoyed this series)
#also handshake jeweler richard you have good taste#not the first person to like both i'm sensing a pattern#i need to catch up on jeweler richard so bad#come to the dark side (discord)#i have more lore but i don't want to spoil#what do you like about them why do they stand out#isn't the king such a guy#man of all time. insane.#lizel collects insane men and has tea with them

Most Magical Birthday On Earth
Title: Most Magical Birthday On Earth
Fandom: Kingsman
Pairing: Agent Whiskey x Reader
Author: @sheerfreesia007
Words: 4,054 (Y’all can enjoy that. Haha!)
Warnings: Fluff, just tooth rotting fluff
Permanent Tag List: @paintballkid711, @fioccodineveautunnale, @phoenixhalliwell, @synystersilenceinblacknwhite
Author Notes: The International Gang of Mischief is together in fic! I absolutely loved writing this. It was a true labor of love for me. I hope you did you all justice. This was so much fun to write and I think it’s a fitting ending for the day. I don’t even know if this is my longest fic word wise in one shot. All together I know FAIY takes that cake (it’s over 100,000 words!!) but this might be the longest one shot I’ve done if I’m not mistaken. ANYWAY I hope you all enjoyed today! I know I did while writing these. Thank you for celebrating with me today! Too many more birthdays! P.S: The Welsh Dragon is an actual drink at the Rose and Crown Pub and I haven’t tried it yet but when I make it back to Epcot I will drink one in your honor ladies and take pictures of it.

“Jack is this really necessary?” you asked as you sat on the couch in the Statesman jet. Jack was readjusting the blindfold over your eyes so that you couldn’t see anything.
“Yes, it’s necessary I don’t want to spoil your surprise. I and Tequila have been working on it for the better part of three months.” he said on a sigh. You sat there shocked not realizing all the work your boyfriend and best friend put into your birthday vacation. Jack had just told you this morning to pack for a warm climate and for a whole weekend with at least one fancy dress. He had then swept you off in the Statesman jet explaining that Tequila would meet you two there since he had to pick up your first birthday surprise.
But now the jet had landed and Jack had immediately put the blindfold over your eyes so that couldn't see. You felt him lean forward and press a soft kiss to your lips. When he pulled away you smiled lovingly.
"What was that for?" You asked softly and he chuckled lightly.
"It's probably gonna be the last time we kiss until later on tonight. You're gonna be quite busy today sweetheart." He said knowingly before pressing another sweet kiss to your lips. "Couldn't help myself." He explained softly and you laughed delighted. His hands then gripped yours and helped you stand. "C'mon then sweetheart I'm gonna slowly walk you out of the jet."
And he did, once you had stepped out the air conditioned jet the heat and humidity hit your body making sweat immediately bead on your skin. Your feet had finally hit the tarmac and Jack easily guided you along. Your hand was tucked in his elbow and you were pressed to his side looking for reassurance in your steps. You could hear voices not far off and when you stepped closer they all stopped talking making you a little self conscious.
"Oh my goodness it's Whiskey!" Came a soft squeal that you knew immediately. Loud groans were heard as your hand came up quickly to whip the blindfold from your face and your eyes took a moment to focus.
"Bubbles! You weren't supposed to ruin it!" Hissed Sparkles and the grin that spread across your face was reflected on five other faces standing only a few feet away from you. Lizzard stood in front and quickly held her arms open. Your grin never ceased as you bolted over to them quickly being engulfed in the group of women. Tears pricked your eyes as they greeted you and wished you a happy birthday. You were being passed from first Lizzard then to Flames who's fiery red hair curled in front of your face making you burst out in a watery chuckle. Then it was Scrubs who held you close as she squealed softly and rocked you from side to side. Bubbles was next and you could hear Tequila muttering behind you.
"It's like their twins, just American and British. Whiskey there's two of them!" His words made both you and Bubbles chuckle happily.
You then turned to Sparkles, who you considered to be the leader of the group, and again with tears in your eyes you hugged her tightly.
"I was hoping for a better bloody surprise but it was ruined." She said kindly and you laughed softly before pulling away.
"Best surprise I've ever gotten." You responded before hugging her once again.
"Well be prepared ladies we've got more surprises yet!" Called Tequila. You turned to look at him without leaving Sparkles arms.
"Where are we?" You asked suddenly.
"Florida." Said Flames matter of factly and Tequila groaned loudly before throwing his hands up.
"That's it! Whiskey you're in charge! It was damn chaos goin' and gettin' them from the airport! It's like herding cats with this group. One wants to go this way, the other wants to take a million pictures, and another just wanted to take it all in! They're a fun group but Jesus, Mary and Joseph! They're gonna give me gray hairs!" Tequila burst out in a rant as his hands gestured to different members of your group. You grinned as you watched Lizzard sidle up next to you and slung an arm around your waist.
"Is he always this bloody dramatic?" She asked low enough for just you and Sparkles to hear making the two of you burst out in laughter.
"Sometimes." You said with a shrug that made the two of them laugh. "Wait a minute?! Are we going to Disney?!" You cried out suddenly and both Whiskey and Tequila turned to you with crestfallen looks.
"It was supposed to be a surprise damnit!" Tequila shouted and threw his hands up again. You pulled away from Sparkles and tugged Tequila into a tight hug.
"You know I don't do well with surprises, but I appreciate the effort. If we're going to Disney you're my bestest best friend ever." You said into his shoulder.
"Yes, we're going to Disney." Tequila said kindly as he hugged you back. "Bestest best friend ever." Squealing you bounced on your toes in his arms.
"Oh! Oh! We have to go on Space Mountain and the Haunted house ride!" You began naming excitedly and Tequila laughed as your excitement began to infect the whole group as you all began talking about what you wanted to do first.
“Alright, alright. Before we start making plans let’s go over a few things.” Whiskey called out over everyone. You all turned to him expectantly and he blinked owlishly at you all. “Okay, so we’ve got dinner reservations at Restaurant Marrakesh at six and I’d like to go get drinks at the Rose and Crown pub beforehand if y’all are alright with that.” You smiled and nodded your head eagerly at him.
“That gives us plenty of time to get some roller coasters and other rides in before we’d head over to the Rose and Crown.” you said knowledgeably. Just as you had finished talking a large black SUV pulled up alongside Whiskey and he smiled as he opened up the back door.
“Alright everyone get in we’ve got just enough time to drive to the park before it opens.” he said with a wide smile. You squealed as you broke away from the group and ran for the car. Pecking Jack on the cheek you quickly climbed in and he chuckled at your enthusiasm.
The drive from the airport wasn’t very long and as you continued to get closer and closer to the park you began to vibrate in your seat in the back. You were sitting up against the window and right next to Scrubs. The whole group of you were figuring out which rides would be best to include everyone so that you all enjoyed yourselves. It was quickly decided that you, Tequila, Lizzard and Flames were the daredevils and would go on at least two roller coasters and then the rest of the rides would be others. You had told them that the must go ons were Pirates of the Carribean, Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid, Haunted Mansion, the carousel, and Peter Pan’s Flight. Everything else was up in the air. The one that you refused and immediately took off the table was It’s a Small World, that ride would drive you bonkers for days afterwards and you were not a fan of having that dang song stuck in your head for days on end.
So with that game plan in mind y’all got to the park as early as you possibly could and as you were driving under that all too familiar canopy that led into the park you couldn’t help yourself but grab onto Scrubs in excitement. She grinned over at you and slung her arm around your shoulders.
“Happy Birthday love.” she said softly and hugged you into her side tightly.
“Thanks sweetheart. I’m so glad you’re all here.” you said happily and saw a few of the other girls nodding their heads.
“It was all Whiskey’s idea. He knew it’d be a wonderful surprise for you and got in touch with Sparkles to set it up where we could all come celebrate with you.” Scrubs explained and your eyes darted to the rearview mirror where you saw Whiskey looking back at you. You could feel your cheeks heating up in a blush and saw his wide grin before he winked at you and turned back to the road.
Not long after entering the park area the SUV was directed towards the preferred parking and you smiled knowing that Whiskey was pulling out all the stops for your birthday. Once the car was finally parked you all piled out and walked to the front turnstiles where you’d be checked into the park and your bags would be checked.
You waited patiently as Whiskey picked up all of your tickets and the bands that you all would be wearing while in the park. Once he had gathered them all he began handing them out and you noticed that each band had your favorite princess on it. Smiling you watched as he handed Sparkles her Belle band, Bubbles got Cinderella, Flames was of course Merida, Lizzard was Rapunzel, Scrubs was Jasmine, Tequila was Stitch, Whiskey was Mickey Mouse and you were Minnie Mouse. Once all the girls saw that they all snickered behind their hands and you grinned before sidling up to Whiskey’s side hugging him loosely. He grinned down at you and pressed a soft kiss to your lips while everyone else made obnoxious kissing noises at the two of you. You laughed when you pulled away and grabbed Flames’ hand dragging her towards the Ferry line where everyone followed you.
Your whole group gravitated towards the front of the ferry and stood at the railing waiting for the ferry to leave the dock. Other park goers are filling up the ferry and the whole group moves to stay together and you’re all standing in a group at the railing. When the ferry finally takes off the group is just idly chatting about anything that comes to mind and soon you’re standing next to Sparkles when the far off castle comes into view. Your eyes dart to her face and watch as the joy falls over her face at seeing the castle.
“Oh it’s so pretty.” she says softly and you nod eagerly.
“Wait til you see it up close.” you respond with a grin.
The ferry ride doesn’t take very long to get the actual park and once you’re all out and through the little check in kiosks you’re all gathering in a group as Whiskey grabs a map.
“So which way are we headed to first?” Whiskey asks as he looks at the map.
“Well first we have to go get our ears and then we can head to the rides. But we’re going to go left first and make our way around the park.” you said easily and began leading everyone over to the large gift shop where they made the Mickey ear hats. Once inside the store everyone all gazed around in awe at all the different kinds of Mickey ears. But your eyes immediately landed on the ears that had clear Mickey ears with confetti on them, a birthday cake in the middle of the ears, and the words “Best Birthday Ever” on the front. Picking up a pair of them you quickly moved to the register where you asked to have your name stitched on the backside. As you were going to pay another pair of Mickey ears landed on top of yours and you turned to see Whiskey standing next to you. He had picked up a classic Mickey ears.
“ I’d like to add this to the bill please.” he said easily as he fished out his wallet.
“Whiskey, you don’t have to pay for my ears.” you said softly and he shook his head at you.
“Nonsense, the birthday girl doesn’t pay for anything this weekend while we’re here.” he responded. You all waited as your names were stitched into each of your hats and you laughed brightly when Whiskey swapped his familiar Stetson for his Mickey ears. His arm swung around your shoulder as you continued to laugh and dragged you close to his body before he pressed a soft kiss to your temple. “I love hearing your laughter. I’m glad you’re having fun already.”
“Thank you for all of this. It’s absolutely wonderful.” you said softly to him with a wide grin on your lips. He nodded his head and leaned down to slide his nose against yours gently.
“Alright c’mon you two love birds we’re all done!” called Tequila and you smiled turning to the group waiting by the doors. You watched as each woman had a knowing smirk on their face and you rolled your eyes at them before gripping Whiskey’s hand and pulling him along with you.
Your first stop was in Adventureland where all eight of you got onto the Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride. With two to a compartment you wound up next to Scrubs who demanded that you not lift the carpet into the air, you laughed and held your hands up in surrender. As the ride started Scrubs watched as the others’ carpets all rose in the air and she looked over to you, you shook your head and she sighed softly.
“Only a little bit.” she said and you did as she asked, raising the carpet only a little bit and she smiled widely. Once the ride had stopped Scrubs climbed out and stood close to you. “Thank you.” You smiled happily at her and hooked your arm around hers and began leading the group over to the Pirates’ ride.
The hours sped by quickly and as your group walked into Fantasyland you knew it was going to be your last stop here. Y’all had managed to get fast passes for Space Mountain earlier and had already ridden it so Fantasyland was going to truly be your last stop. As you walked into the Princess Fairytale Hall you could see the exhaustion starting to show on their faces. Tequila was as wired as he was when y’all first walked in and his eyes danced around the room as he walked in but everyone else was starting to look like they were going to crash soon.
You looked over to Whiskey and saw him smile softly at you and you nodded your head at him before stepping closer.
“This is gonna be our last stop for the park. Everyone’s looking worn out.” you said softly and he looked down at you worried.
“Are you sure?” he asked softly and you nodded.
“Yeah, we’ve gone on everything that we planned to and a few other rides. Plus I think once everyone sees where we’re going for drinks they’ll perk up before dinner and the fireworks.” you say with a kind smile on your face.
“Did you get to do everything you wanted sweetheart?” he asked softly and you nodded your head as you wrapped your arms around his waist.
“I did and so much more.” you responded and he grinned down at you before pressing a soft kiss to your lips. Just then a loud squeal filled the air and the two of you pulled apart to see Bubbles excitedly bouncing on her toes as Cinderella walked into the room.
The next hour was spent greeting and talking with each princess and taking photos with all of them. You knew the photos would be momentos that each and everyone of you cherished. Whiskey had even gotten in some of the photos with Tequila which had made you all cackle as since all the princesses swooned over him making Tequila jealous.
Once you were all done with seeing the princesses you led the group over to the train that went around the whole park and you heard a loud audible appreciative groan come from everyone that made you burst into laughter. They were all tired and were ready for a sit down. The train came not long after you all stood in line and as you were standing next to Lizzard you watched her sway a little and you placed a hand on her back.
“Almost there sweetheart. Soon we’ll go drinking in a place that should be familiar to y’all.” you said kindly to her and she grinned over at you before you all boarded the train.
“So this train goes around the whole park?” Flames asked excitedly.
“Yeah but the back area is all woods and you don’t see much.” you explained as you turned in your seat to talk to her. You turned back around when you felt a hand fall onto your right thigh and looked over to see Whiskey smiling at you. You rested your head against his shoulder and just watched as the train traveled along its track.
Once the train had stopped at the main entrance station it had seemed as if your group was rejuvenated a little. Y’all made your way to the exit gates and easily boarded the monorail that was luckily waiting there. You made sure to get on the one that would bring you to Epcot and you all found seats together so that you wouldn’t be separated.
The monorail ride was roughly about half an hour so the group easily caught up with what was their favorite part of the day and the tired smiles slowly began turning into excited happy smiles as everyone was able to rest their tired feet and relax a little bit in the air conditioned rail car. You were sat in between Sparkles and Bubbles as the two of them gazed out of the large windows watching everything that traveled past. When it was time for everyone to leave so that you could enter Epcot everyone got up with an excited energy hanging around the group.
You all went through the check in gates one more time and Whiskey stepped away for a moment as he made a phone call before he came back to the group. He walked next to you and smoothly held your hand with his. Grinning up at him you happily swung your hands in between each other as you led the group into the park.
When you came to stop in front of the Rose and Crown pub you were met with silence before loud squeals filled the air and you were being rushed into the English themed bar and restaurant. You laughed as the whole group of you found a table that would be able to seat you all and everyone grabbed a menu.
“Oh that’s a no brainer.” Scrubs said with a smirk and you grinned over at her as your eyes found the drink you would all be getting. When the waitress came over you smiled politely at her before Flames spoke up.
“Right, all of us ladies are gonna have the Welsh Dragon and Tequila here is gonna Cider and Fireball while Whiskey over there is gonna have Leaping Leprechaun.” she said proudly with a nod of her head. When everyone nodded their heads in agreement the waitress eagerly left to put in your drink orders.
“So Siren, having a good birthday?” asked Bubbles from across the table and you smiled nodding your head.
“It’s the best.” you said and they all laughed as Whiskey adjusted your Mickey ears on your head so they sat straight on your head. When the drinks came you all continued your conversation and time passed slowly as you all just enjoyed your time together in the loud boisterous busy pub. Whiskey looked down at his watch as he finished the last of his drink and then looked up at all of you.
“Alright finish your drinks we’ve got to head over to the restaurant for dinner.” he said adamantly and you all easily finished your drinks.
You felt the excitement fill you as your group walked through your favorite part of the park. It was back here in the Morocco part of the park that your favorite restaurant sat. And while walking through the area you couldn’t help but to admire the detail that Disney had put into making the area feel authentic. Or as authentic as you believed it to be without ever visiting Morocco.
Sitting down at your table you smiled as the dim lighting cast a glow over everyone at the table. You were sitting in between Sparkles and Flames at the head of the table across from Whiskey who sat at the other head of the table. He sent you a wink and you grinned happily. Soon your food and drinks were ordered and everyone was gazing around talking about the decor when you heard the music begin to play. Turning in your seat you watched as a belly dancer came out in the middle of the restaurant and began to dance along to the music. The jingle of the dress around her hips kept in beat with the music and you clapped along as she danced. Everyone was enraptured with her dance moves and when she finished everyone clapped and cheered loudly for her.
Not long after the food came out along with a refill of your drinks. Conversation slowed and you were happy to eat and just look around the table full of your loved ones. This truly was a magical birthday and you couldn’t be more grateful for the people around you.
Suddenly you heard loud singing coming from behind you and you ducked your head sheepishly as grins appeared on every face around you. The wait staff came by with a plate held up with a small desert and candle stuck in the middle. As the singing ended you laughed and blew out your candle as cheers rang out in the air. You shook your head as a blush heated your skin and your eyes darted over to Whiskey across the table who was grinning at you with happy eyes.
“Happy Birthday Siren!” cheered out Sparkles as she held her glass up in the air. Everyone followed suit and you clink your glass with everyone.
Walking out of the restaurant you grabbed onto Whiskey’s wrist and moved it so you could glance at his watch. It read eight thirty. You quickly slipped your fingers in between his and turned to the group.
“So the fireworks start in half an hour. I'd like to get a good spot and I know others will be already lining up around the railings so let’s all go find a spot to watch them.” you instructed easily and the group quickly moved to see if they could all find a spot large enough for everyone. Luckily you didn’t have to go too far to find a big enough spot to view the fireworks and as your group moved in front of the Japan area you quickly found a spot to gather against the railing.
Standing between Lizzard and Tequila you felt arms wrap around your middle and a sturdy chest press to your back. You smiled warmly as you leaned back into Whiskey and he pressed his lips to your ear.
“Did you have a good day?” he asked softly into your ear and grinned nodding your head.
“The best day ever.” you responded as your hands came up to cover his own.
“Good I’m glad.” he whispered into your ear. Soon the sky was darkening and a hush came over the park as everyone waited for the fireworks show to begin. When it did begin everyone gasped in awe at the display of pyrotechnics that lit up the sky. You felt Whiskey’s breath graze against your neck and you felt a peacefulness come over you as your eyes watched the fireworks explode in the sky. “I love you sweetheart.” he whispered into your ear as the finale of the display began and you tilted your head back to look up at him and he grinned leaning down to press his lips to yours in a loving kiss.
“I love you too.” you responded back once you had pulled away as the last firework went off.

The Walker’s were preparing for the lead up to Christmas at Valtoria. They had decided to celebrate in the cabin that Drake had built behind Riley’s back as a wedding present.
Riley removed the blindfold, looking around bemused. Where were they? They stood in front of a beautiful wooden log cabin, the scenery was breathtaking.
“What do you think?” Drake smirked, he knew she would be shocked, but she was speechless and frozen.
“Is this a second honeymoon? Where are we?”
“This is a permanent honeymoon. We are in Valtoria. This is our home. This is why I’ve been secretive. I organised it with Liam before we left for the honeymoon. Everyone knew- and helped out.” Riley thought about everyone trying to help Drake out without her being suspicious- not quite believing how damn lucky she was having these people in her life.
They had originally wanted to just spend the time leading up to Christmas as a family, however Maxwell was persistent about inviting himself over - “I’m the twins godfather, I’m family” he insisted. Riley felt so very blessed, having great friends surrounding her since she had first come to Cordonia- she was thankful for the health of her children and the happiness surrounding her little family and home. ‘Making memories’ with these people was an important factor, especially after all the trauma she and Drake had been through all those years ago.
The scenery surrounding the cabin was; breathtaking and serene- you could almost taste the freshness of the crisp air. Through the large open glass windows, the view was scenic especially at night time - where the dark moonlit trees of the forest, standing together in silent formations. Smell of wood burning lingering, along with the crackling fire created a warm atmosphere welcoming the Duke and Duchesses guests.
Riley was heavily pregnant with their third child- even though she was feeling lethargic, she was always excited for this holiday as it was her Gran’s favourite. Arianna and Jackson were keeping each other company- whilst Drake and Riley sorted through the decorations to turn the cabin into ‘Santa’s grotto’.
“Riley, I’ve got a surprise for you. It’s a bit sentimental- but I hope that you’ll love it.” Riley turned to her husband- providing him with a perplexed expression. “It’s been eight years since your Gran passed, I know how much you miss her. So I ordered this bauble- it’s got a photo of you and her on our wedding day. The other bauble has a photo of her with the twins.”
“Drake, I love them.” She barely spoke, holding back the tears. “I am so lucky to have such a thoughtful husband. I love you.” Tracing the baubles with her finger, she held them both towards her heart.
“I’m the lucky one Mrs Walker.” Placing the mistletoe above the fireplace on a high shelf, Drake lent in and forced his lips onto his wife’s. His tongue slipped inside her mouth, starting off gentle but soon turned demanding. Riley’s fingers ran through his hair, pulling him closer- his hands protectively holding his heavily pregnant wife. ‘Mistletoe hung where you can see’
‘Ew dad, that’s gross!” Jackson looked mortified, whilst Arianna was the sensible twin.
“Stop kissing! Right now! Uncle Max says that grown ups shouldn’t do that in front of kids.”
“Well Uncle Max is right.” Riley was slightly annoyed that they had been ‘caught in the act’. Thinking back to her saying those exact same words about her parents to her Gran.
“No uncle Max is just jealous.” Drake whispered in her ear. “You and I, will return to this later on!”
*****
Drake had cut a fresh tree from the forest for their Christmas tree this year, upon his return to the cabin- he noticed Riley sat with their child next to the fire reading them a story. Overhearing them, he was in awe of his wife- she was the most loving mom.
“He was so pleased when one day some children came with their parents to choose a fir tree to decorate their living room. The children adored him at first sight.”
“Well I hope that you adore the tree that I chose.”
“Daddy!” Drake dropped the tree to the floor, and picked up his two children- holding them tightly. “Shall we decorate the tree then kids?”
Drake set the tree into the box, a royal blue tree skirt with a snowflake pattern on the ground surrounded the box. A Walker tradition of having an old-fashioned train that moved across the peripheral of the tree skirt, was included. The green natural tree that was over seven feet tall stood dormant-with a golden star that extended towards the ceiling. The twinkling lights surrounding the branches provided a riot of colour along with sentimental ornaments from Rileys childhood, as well as Drakes.
Riley checked on the food that they had prepared- the food smelt like her Grans used to, the memory would always be in her mind. She was determined, to carry on the Smith/Brooks tradition with her own children.
“That smells lovely. Elsie’s recipe?” Drake asked as he walked into the kitchen, hugging his wife from behind.
“Of course!”
“Come and dance with me, not too much though, I don’t want you going into premature labour.” Riley raised her eyebrows at him, knowing he was joking but there was still that possibility that baby walker could make an appearance anytime from now.
“I’m going to play your Grans favourite song, whilst we dance and wait for Maxwell to provide us with his presence.” Drake noticed Riley’s lip curl up, as well as tears forming.
“Alexa play- ‘Rockin around the Christmas tree’ by Brenda Lee.”
Riley thought back to her childhood with her gran in Orlando as a ten year old- the same age that the twins are. They had spent their annual vacation visiting the theme parks and beaches.
“Hmm that smells yummy Gran. What is it?”
“Pumpkin pie sweetie. Do you want to lick the spoon? It’s over by the sink. Don’t tell your mother or father though- it’s our little secret!” Placing her finger over her lips, Riley smirked- her and her Gran had a special bond. A bond that no one would understand.
“Yummy! I wish I could live here with you. I miss you when we go home.”
“That’s why it’s important to make memories. Come and dance with me by the tree.”
“Rockin around the Christmas tree
At the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
Every couple tries to stop
Rockin' around the Christmas tree
Let the Christmas spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie
And we'll do some caroling
Elsie sung to her granddaughter, who’s eyes lit up- Elsie spun her around as she executed a perfect twirl.
“You’re a good singer Gran.”
“Not as good as Brenda Lee. She was not much older than you when she released this song.” Continuing dancing with her granddaughter- she immediately covered her eyes.
“Why are you covering my eyes, I can’t see.”
“Because your mommy and daddy are kissing underneath the mistletoe. You’ll understand when your older Ri.”
“Ew that’s gross! I am never kissing a boy. Can we get back to the dancing?”
“Of course baby girl, then tomorrow we will go and see Mickey Mouse- and I’ll tie your hair up in a big bun or high ponytail to sneak you on all the rides as usual.”
You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear
Voices singing, let's be jolly
Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Rockin' around the Christmas tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone dancin' merrily
In the new old-fashioned way
Drake whispered in her ear, as they continued dancing- with the twins joining in. Riley was knocked out of her trace, as Maxwell bounded through the door, dressed as in a red suit- his surprise for his nephew and niece.
“Ho ho ho. Merry Christmas!” He shouted over dramatically. Walking over towards their guest, Riley provided him with a soft smile, before attempting to hug him with her bump getting in the way.
“It’s not Christmas yet dipshit!”
“Drake you’re so miserable they should call you Scrooge or Mr Grinch!”
“Max, my husband is very sweet. You just don’t realise.” Referring to the surprises he had given her, he was only a marshmallow with his immediate family- to everyone else he was the sarcastic miserable Duke.
“You’ve got bigger since I last saw you. Maybe you should have come as Santa instead of me?”
“I’m 37 weeks pregnant Max! Don’t mess with a pregnant lady.”
“Sorry your grace, you know I love you- where are the kids?” Riley pointed over to the living room- Maxwell coughed needing to prepare to provide a deep voice.
“Arianna and Jackson Walker, have you both been on my good list this year?”
The two children gave each other that knowing luck- knowing exactly who it was, but decided to sneakily play along in order to receive ‘Santa’s gifts’.
“Yes.” They both said in unison, Jackson wore the infamous Walker smirk, whilst Arianna bit her lower lip and fluttered her eyelashes. Maxwell couldn’t believe the irony of how they both looked and acted like Riley and Drake. Thinking back to him and Bertrand forcing Riley towards Liam during the social season- he was glad that she was stubborn and followed her own heart. Maxwell handed the gifts over, both twins opened up their gifts before laughing at their Uncle still keeping up the Santa act.
“Uncle Maxi!” Arianna and Jackson shouted in unison- both jumping into his arms.
“You knew it was me? Riley they must get their brains from you... please don’t kill me Drake. Kids you’re getting too old to do that now.” Riley held Drake back, and gave him a whiskey. Knowing that would calm the situation down. “It’s Christmas baby, don’t do anything silly. We can all begin to sing and dance when Bertrand, Savannah and Bartie arrive.”
*****
Bertrand, Savannah and Bartie arrived eventually- they all decided to sing carols around the fire- all feeling jolly and in the Christmas spirit.
“Riley, Drake there’s someone at the door.” Savannah looked through the window, but she was too intoxicated that her vision was blurry. “They’ve got greyish hair, probably carol singers.” Riley waddled to the door, opening it there was no sight of any visitors. Closing the door slowly, she heard ‘Rockin around the Christmas tree’ playing again. Assuming that Alexa was just playing it automatically.
“Guys, turn the music off.” She shouted to her guests, not meaning to sound rude- she asked them to do this in case the person came back.
“It is off. There’s no music playing.” They all looked at each other concerned.
“Must be my imagination then Max. I’m sorry.”
“You look tired, why don’t you have a quick kip.”
“I’m fine Drake. I’m just going to prepare the pumpkin pie.” She placed a kiss on his cheek, insisting that he enjoyed his night.
Rockin' around the Christmas tree
Let the Christmas spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie
“I love you sweetie. You’re doing a fabulous job, and that smells lovely. I think the men look a bit too hot- whilst I’m here give your old gran some eye candy like I had on your honeymoon.” Riley stood frozen, hearing her Grans presence next to her- before laughing at the memories from her honeymoon.
“Mr and Mrs Walker! Put some bloody clothes on. I’m not getting any younger- you’re both going to send me into an early grave with the shock!”
“Darling calm down. I’m fine. We all came to join you for your last night. Don’t argue the toss either, madam. You’ve both had nearly 3 weeks alone together and we’ve all missed you. I love you baby girl...Drake, keep that top off- us single women need some eye candy!”
“She’s.... she was trying to strip Max then moved onto Liam. They were both mortified. I had to escape before she did it to me.”
“I’m going to ‘rock’ around the Christmas tree for old time’s sake.” Riley scrutinised the living area- overhearing them all say there was a cold draft. Unable to see her Gran, she held onto the table in shock- not only with the words from her Gran.
“Riley are you okay?” Savannah noticed the spillage on the floor, and immediately began to clean it up. Drake came into the kitchen with Maxwell leaving Bertrand babysitting.
“For fuck sake Savannah can’t you handle your drink? I think you should have your wine in one of the children’s cup.”
“I didn’t spill anything Drake! It was Riley she was spooked.” Drake looked at his wife, who looks as if she was under a spell.
“What’s up baby? Are you okay?”
“Elsie’s here. She’s been singing to me, she asked for you all to be topless again. Elsie’s coming....” Drake didn’t believe in ghosts, but believed if Riley’s Gran was here it was because she had witnessed Riley miss her. She was here protecting them all.
“Okay, she just didn’t want to miss out on all the fun, she was always up for fun.”
“I mean this Elsie is on her way. Savannah is cleaning up my waters that broke as Gran Elsie went to dance by the tree.”

Operation Eros - Part 6
Steve Rogers x Reader
Word count: 1619
You spend the next few hours with the just the boys as Natasha had eaten with you all but then gone right to bed. It’s 2am when Bucky gently shakes your hip with his hand. You’d fallen asleep, your head on Steve’s shoulder and your legs across Bucky’s lap. Through sleep heavy eyes you look at the two and find them both smiling down at you.
“I’ve got this, Buck.” You hear Steve say as your eyes drift open and closed. You do manage to see Bucky give Steve some sort of look, as if he was in on a secret, before he works his way out from under your legs. He gives you a soft pat on top of your head before he leaves the two of you.
“Alright Doll. Com’ ere.” Steve slowly moves around and adjusts until he can slowly stand with you in his arms, bridal style. “What room is yours?”
You tell him and he takes you there. Steve is gentle as he puts you in your bed and pulls your blankets up. “G’night, Doll.” He starts to move away.
“Steve?” your voice is full of sleep.
“Yeah, sweetheart.”
“Thank you… An’ I’m gla- glad you’re home,” You can’t help the yawn that breaks up your words. “An’ you’re okay… I was getting worried.”
His half smile is back. “You’re welcome, Darling. And I’m happy to be back, and that you’re here now.” He leans down and hesitates a moment before he places a soft kiss on your forehead. “G’night.”
“Goodnight.”
You find that you spend a lot of you late nights with the team, but even more so now that Bucky and Steve are home. Almost every night you fall asleep on the couch, usually with some number of snacks you had gathered on the table, and various members of the team surrounding you.
After all the time you spend with them, soon the team becomes like family. With some you feel like a little sister while to others you fit more into the more familiar role of doting big sister. Still, Steve feels less like family but very much your best friend. You have other friends in the city, girls’ nights away from the tower and such do you good. But as you take stock of this stuff one night, you notice nothing comes close to the trust and closeness you had with Steve.
Steve was the one you ran errands with, talked to when you felt stressed out, and who convinced you to take time off and take breaks. He even convinced you to ride his motorcycle with him a few times. And even though it was the med bay in the Tower, and it was Tony’s personal medical staff, Steve was the one by your bedside with the pain medicine and ice cream when you needed an emergency appendectomy.
The tower had become home in under a year, and you understood why all the team stayed and built their home here too. No one really understood them, what they saw or go through, but they have each other. And this felt safe. You finally understood why Tony had fought to get you on staff. The team trusted you with themselves as people, not just the façade of Avengers, and that meant a lot. So, you expanded your scope and started cooking classes and doing other odd ball things to help out.
Over a team dinner you had prepared, you told the team about your first paid vacation. You’d been surprised to find that what Tony meant by “paid vacation” wasn’t paid time off but rather he gave you an allotted amount to use to pay for your vacation, as well as still paying you for the time you were off.
You’d booked a trip to Disneyland with your little sister and had some funds left over. She’d moved out of New York a few years ago for college in San Francisco. She and your mom were happy on the west coast, even if you all missed each other as you were so used to it being just the three of you.
The team was happy for you as you prepare for the trip, now often crashing your nightly Skype calls to “meet the other family”. As it gets closer, you find out everyone is a little bummed they’d have to rely on themselves for late night fuel while you were away. Your absolute favorite reaction was the Asgardians’ reactions to learning about a place called Disneyland dedicated a mouse with a magic castle and princesses. Thor, in particular, asked you questions until the day you left.
It’s clear to your sister instantly that you love the team and she is happy you have made such great friends. She does however pick up on how much you talk about a certain super solider and soon has you spilling your feelings to her as you ride the Ferris Wheel at California Adventures.
Your sister, ever your biggest fan, is instantly a “shipper” of you and the good Captain and begins the endeavor to come up with a good ship name for the two of you. She doesn’t catch the gloomy glances you dive her as she gushes on, ever the fan girl, all the while knowing the Captain couldn’t possibly look at you like that. Not when he had plenty of amazing and capable women to choose from, like Nat or maybe Sharon Carter.
Encouraging her to get her mind, and consequently yours, off of the topic you set yourselves on a quest to find the perfect souvenirs for each of the team members.
Several days later, you make your way home with your bag stuffed full of things for your new mix-matched family. You make it home pretty late, so you don’t expect to meet many people. Tony had let you know that none of them were out right now though a few were working, and others were with family.
To your surprise, you hear some sort of joyful ruckus as the doors of the elevator slide open to the living areas. Before checking it out you take the back way and drop your bags off in your room then head towards the noise you hear coming from the common area.
You can’t keep the warm smile from you face as you take in the sight before you. The Livingroom has been rearranged somewhat to allow for a table to be put in the middle. At some point they must have had a game of cards going but they had long moved on. You take in four men and the evidence that others had been there. Tony’s tie and jacket are over the back of one of the armchairs, one of the mugs left at the table had Pepper’s shade of lipstick on the ring and another had Nat’s. Sam’s favorite mug was out on the table and you knew T’Challa was in town so you’re sure the mug etched with a crown was one of Tony’s jokes that suggests he was here as well. As for who is left in the room, Loki is leaning against a wall and made eye contact with you as you entered before he returns your warm smile and gives you a quick wink. His brother seems to be monitoring the other two in the room, Steve and Bucky, as they are currently sitting on the couch, loudly talking and joking with each other but with an unusual lack of grace. If you didn’t know any better you’d think they were…
“Drunk.” Loki had moved to your side, and by your request, had let you know he was approaching before he spoke. You and Loki had a good relationship because, unlike the rest of New York, you never treated him like just a villain. Since you moved into the tower the two of you had shared an understanding and comfortable growing friendship. You acknowledged his unique and complicated past but still treated him like a person who was trying to move past what he had been. It was strange to trust him, but you did and he was doing his best to respect that. And you liked that he could handle it when you called him on his shit.
He smiles at you again. “I could read the question on your face. Yes, they are drunk.”
“That’s not possible… They can’t get drunk, Steve told me. They’re Super Soldiers, they burn it off too fast to feel it…”
Loki’s eyes are sparkling with mirth and you knew he would always be the God of Mischief, no matter how “reformed” he was. “Midgardian alcohol, yes. They burn that off as you say. But Thor supplied the ale for tonight’s festivities.”
“Asgardian ale? Well what do you know…” You smiled at the boys again as Steve slapped Thor on the back and all three laughed. “How did the others fare?” You gesture around the room.
“Lady Pepper didn’t finish her drink but walked out standing straight. King T’Challa and the Metal Bird bowed out when the drink even barely started to affect their ability to walk. The Man of Iron and the Black Widow both swayed a bit as they left. And I’m not sure these two will be able to walk out of here unassisted.”
“Well, I guess they aren’t accustomed to being effected… Maybe we should convince them it’s time to retire for the night.”
Loki nods, respecting your word as he normally does when it comes to caring for the team, and moves into the room signaling the others to your presence. “The Lady y/l/n has returned from the land of the talking mouse.”
A/N: the last line with Loki is special to me because I write it two months before my trip to Disneyland where I did a meet and greet with Loki... and the actor referred to my mickey ears and went “Ah yes, the talking rodent.” MADE my day guys.

Behind the Curtain - MiniOhm
A/N: I don’t play Friday the 13th, so I don’t know how much is accurate. My knowledge is based off videos and streams because I’m a broke 15 year old. ~•~
Ohmwrecker wouldn’t be where he was without Mini Ladd. The hacker was always at his back, constantly making sure he didn’t run into cops or trip any alarms. Ohm didn’t know anything about the person, from what their voice sounded like to what they looked like to what gender they were. All he had was the name of the person and the confidence that they had his back. Which is why when the name popped up in a Friday the 13th lobby, he was to say a little surprised.
Mini didn’t recognize him, however. Ohm always used the tag Masked Gamer when he’s online with his friends. He was surprised the person didn’t use his real name like Bryce or make a new one like he did. Nonetheless, neither of them say anything prior to the cut scene. “~Ooo. Who’s going to be Jason?” Delirious pondered. “Me please.” Gorilla complained. “I’ve been it a single goddamn time. Always getting stuck as the goddamn survivor victims.” “I’m just waiting for The Face.” Mini commented. It was like several accents from around the globe mushed their way into one male voice. It was unique, to say that much. “Wait for it.” Jason came into view, but even by its feet you could tell it was Sevini Jason. “Goddamn it.” Gorilla complained. “I think it’s Satt.” Ohm commented as the generic character got killed. “There it is!” Mini shouted as the Chad made the generic scared face. “Let’s hope there’s a boat.” Bryce commented. As the screen faded to black, Ohm thought he heard a faint Mickey Mouse impression from Satt. Hopefully he wouldn’t have to hear more of it. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. He ended up spawning alone by the two seater, which bought him some time. Especially since he got a pocket knife, heal spray, and firecrackers. But the Packanack Lodge had both the four seater and the fuse box, so in essence it was a death house. Ohm made the mistake of using his pocket knife so they could put the fuse in, so maybe his other choice of going on the defensive for Gorilla wasn’t the best option. “Gorilla, call the cops!” He shouted as he swung at Satt with a baseball bat, protecting the repaired fuse box. His attack didn’t make contact. “I’m trying!” Gorilla shouted back, crystal clear because of the walkies. “I don’t know where the phone is.” “Nice try, Bitch! Huh Ha!” Satt taunted in his Mickey Mouse impression as he grabbed Ohm. “Upstairs Gorilla!” Ohm replied as he tried to struggled in Jason’s grasp. “Aw, no cool kills.” Satt complained. “Look likes I’m just going to have to kill you.” The scene quickly changed to a cutscene, that Ohm recognized when Jason stabbed his character with the pitchfork. “Gorilla, call the cops. I’ve bought you some time.” Ohm quickly got out before his character died. “Enjoy your stay at Disneyland.” Satt said, as his character fell over. The message ‘You Died’ flashed across the screen. “Fuck me in the ass.” “I mean I’d take you up on that offer, but we only just met.” Ohm would be lying if he said he wasn’t startled by Mini’s comment. He checked quick, and saw they were the only two dead. “Shit. Am I hot mic-ing?” “Are you pressing ’T’?” Mini asked. “No.” “Then yes.” Ohm groaned, before changing his audio settings quick. He didn’t need anything about who he was to accidentally slip out. “Sorry.” He apologized. “I was Jason last round, and I always change my audio settings when I do it.” “Oh you’re good.” Mini assured him. “Hey, is there anything else I can call you? Masked Gamer just … it doesn’t roll of the tongue.” “Ryan.” Ohm blurred out a little too quickly, and he felt his face grow red. “Most of my friends call me Ryan.” “Alright.” Mini said. “Hold, I was just spectating Delirious. That ass tho.” Ohm switched to Del, who was slowly walking away with the Tiffany’s character. Aka: Booty Shorts. “That ass tho.” He repeated. “I love me some good ass, though.” Ohm agreed, and Mini laughed. He smiled behind the computer screen, glad nobody but Buddy was there to witness how much of a lovesick pile of mush he was becoming. “Hey Mini, can I get your Discord or Skype or something?” Ohm asked during their 3rd game, while they waited for Bryce, as the last one alive, to either juke Gorilla until time ran out or died. “You seem like a nice guy, and I don’t want to loose you once the server eventually crashes.” “Sure thing. It’s the same handle on everything. Mini Laddd, with 3 d’s.” “Got it. I’ll add you later.” He smiled. His friends were oddly quiet, which was weird. He could practically hear Delirious’ smirk, and he had a feeling once the lobby kicked them out he was going to hear an earful from all of them. He wasn’t wrong. ~•~ Mark: Take him to the movies. That’s a great first date Bryce: I kinda see him as the Starbucks type Jonathan: Just go to an amusement park and win me a teddy bear Luke: there are no carnivals and stuff around here this time of year Jonathan: I just want a teddy bear! Ryan sighed as he watched his friends ‘debate’ (argue was a better term here) about what he should about Mini, or Craig as he found out during a round of Golf It. It was no secret to anyone who saw the two of them interact that he was practically head over heals for the guy. Most of them didn’t understand his hesitation to have the two finally meet in person. Everyone saw his as a very upfront person who usually went for what he wanted, so almost everyone was confused at the hesitation. He put the larger group on Do Not Disturb mode, and turned to the one other person who knew all the details. Ryan: What should I do? Mike: I feel like u should b open. this relationship that the 2 of u have is much more complex and developed 4 u not 2 come clean Ryan: yeah but what about Them? Mike: I think they’ll see this as beneficial 2 them right now. U guys r the best team na. Not much could really screw that up this late in the game Mike: long as u don’t move beyond friendship u should b fine Ryan sighed, knowing subconscious that his fears were simply trying to put off the inevitable. He didn’t have anything to do, and They hadn’t sent them an assignment yet (It has been a week. One is due soon). He just had to breath, and type those seven simple words. Ryan: You want to meet up in person? Craig: absolutely. When and where? Ryan: Wherever you want baby ;) After being criticized for his use of emoticons, they found out they both lived in California at the time for school. They also decided to meet at a Starbucks that wasn’t too far from Ohm’s off campus apartment. Then Mike gave Ryan the brilliant idea of adding Craig to the group chat silently. Ryan: Can you girls stop fighting and help me figure out where to take Craig when I ask him out? Luke: the man in question finally speaks Bryce: Starbucks date Mark: movies and dinner Jonathan: teddy bear!! Luke: stfu Del Craig: can we get back to the important thing here Mike: ^^
Ryan: ^^ Bryce: well, you know him best Ry. Craig: yeah, what’s your brilliant idea? Ryan: I don’t have one! That’s the problem Ryan: I’m nervous this time around for some reason Mark: that’s called being human Jonathan: just, do you and you’ll be fine Luke: Hold up Craig: holding Luke: ^ when and how the fuck did you get here Jonathan: tbh I did t even realize Craig: I’ve gotta go ~•~ Ryan’s fingers twiddled with the straw of his drink. Despite the reassurance he received from the guys before, it all practically flew out the window as he glanced around the crowded Starbucks to whoever Craig was. He had no idea what the man in question looked like, and vise versa. And the fact that the two of them were partners in crime and only he knew it shook him harder. “Excuse me?” Ryan looked up from his hands to see a man standing behind the chair across from him. He looked to be about Ryan’s height, with brown hair that had light blue at the tips and eyes hidden behind glasses. He had a storm trooper shirt on as well as a dark jacket and jeans. His voice sounded familiar, but he couldn’t quite place it. “Do you mind if I sit here for now? I’m just waiting for a friend.” “Not at all.” He replied, and the man sat down. He instantly went on his phone, in which he appeared to be texting. So it wasn’t much of a coincidence that when the man put his phone down, Ryan’s buzzed in his pocket. Craig: Here. Waiting for you. Pretty crowded. Had to sit w/ some random guy just for a seat. He smiled. He had an idea, and his fingers flew across the digital keyboard. Ryan felt like he didn’t hit Send soon enough. Ryan: look across from you. The second the man, or Craig as he figured out, looked down at the message, he held up his messages to show the man across from him. Craig’s eyebrows burrowed in confusion, and opened his mouth to say something only to be silence by the same text conversation staring back at him from Ryan’s phone. “So … you’re Ryan then?” Craig asked. Ryan had to remember to breath as now was a good as time as ever to explain. “Yeah.” He started. “I’m Ryan. But, um …” He pressed the On button on the microphone clipped to the inside of his shirt, the one that helped to change his voice. “I think you better know me as Ohmwrecker.”

Fourth of July! Anxiety really hates fireworks. So when Thomas goes out to see some, everything goes to hell.

A/N: I droppedeverything I was doing to write this because I got motivation to writeinstantaneously and I had to post it while it was still July 4th :D
Thomas had never seen fireworks in person. He’d watchedrecordings of them, and seen the fireworks on television when they broadcastedthem. They were always so sparkly and pretty and made Thomas happy. That’s whywhen his friends invited him out to go see fourth of July fireworks, he wasabsolutely giddy.
Anxiety, on the other hand, wasn’t.
They seemed stupid and unnecessary. They were just colorsbeing literally exploded in the sky like some fancy bomb and everyone wassupposed to be cool with that? How many fires started each year because offireworks? (It was 18,500 according to Logan.) And that wasn’t even to mentionthe heat of going out to see them. Sure, it was night time, but it was stillhot even when the sun went down. Why would Thomas want to subject himself toall of that potential danger?
Anxiety had tried to talk him out of it for the whole weekbefore the event, but unfortunately, the other Sides were able to overpowerhim. Logan’s logical side insisted that so long as this was a supervised andplanned event, it was unlikely that there would be any fires. Roman was excitedto see the colors and he insisted that there would be a Mickey Mouse firework, like they fire over Disneyland. Patton was just excited in general and lovedthat Thomas was going out with his friends to a social event—willingly!Anxiety’s voice was easily drowned out and he wasn’t able to stop Thomas fromgoing.
Now that the event was about to start, Anxiety was, well, anxious. He paced in the main room of their mind space. The others were by thewindow, looking out at the spectacle through Thomas’s eyes.
“This is a bad idea,” Anxiety said for the hundredth timethat week.
“Shush,” Logan said with a sigh. “He’s already here. Justenjoy the colors. Nothing is going to go wrong.”
Anxiety glared and then continued pacing. “How do you know? Can you see into the future? You know that there’s always an exception. Whatabout those 18,000 fires?”
“Those were most likely caused by unsupervised or illegalfiring of the fireworks. This is planned and legal and carefully looked after. It’s fine.” Logan leaned forward. He’d never seen fireworks in person, ofcourse, and was eager to see exactly how they looked from a first person pointof view.
Patton was almost vibrating and his smile looked like it wasgoing to split his face. “They’re starting…!”
Indeed, music had begun to play. Anxiety had heard thatthere would be some kind of soundtrack to go along with the fireworks, but thatjust seemed stupid. He didn’t have much time to brood over that fact before thefirst firework was set off. He heard a whistling as it sailed through the airand the other Sides leaned forward in the window, waiting in anticipation. Finally, the firework went off.
It sounded like a gun.
Anxiety stopped in his tracks and his adrenaline spiked. Hisheart began to race. The firework had exploded with a loud BANG and it wasabsolutely deafening. Anxiety’s ears were ringing, but before he had a chanceto recover, another one went off. BANG!It made Anxiety jump and he stumbled. He caught himself on the couch and hisheart thundered in his ears. More gunshots. BANGBANG BANG! They were beyond deafening. They completely blanketed sound overAnxiety. Each shot felt like there was a bullet ripping through Anxiety. Hepulled at his shirt and tried to breathe. The air was thin and the noise wasdizzying. Everything felt warped. The room was spinning and Anxiety lost hisfooting, falling to the ground.
He thought he heard voices, but they were like whispersbehind the gunshots. BANG! Anotherbullet whizzed through the air and Anxiety’s chest ached. He gasped, gurgled. There were hands on him and he tried to shove them away. Everything was aspinning blur of color, black danced in his eyes. BANG! Anxiety tried to curl up into a tight ball, but the handskept trying to hold him flat on the floor. He was on the floor? He must havefall—BANG BANG!! Anxiety lost histrain of thought.
More hands on his face, on his arms. He couldn’t focus orsee. There was only noise, bullets, harm, fear, danger. Anxiety felt like hewas going to pass out. He pulled at his shirt again and felt something tear.Another hand on his wrist, moving his hand from his shirt.
“Gunshots don’t echo.”
The voice cut through the noise somehow. Anxiety latchedonto it. Gunshots don’t echo. BANG!!Another shot…but then another quieter shot, behind it. An echo. Gunshots don’techo. Anxiety mumbled it to himself. One of the hands ran through his hair.Another bang, but it echoed again. There were no guns. These were fireworks.Thomas was at a fireworks show. It was fine. It was fine.
“That’s right, kiddo. Breathe. Relax.”
It took a long time. The fireworks had ended, and stillAnxiety felt dazed and things were blurry. He was shaky, and his handstrembled. At one point the hands helped him to his feet and he managed to walk, but he couldn’t tell where he was going. He was led somewhere and then laiddown. He was in bed, and pulled the sheets over his head. There was a handstill on his back as he drifted to sleep.
Several hours later, he woke up to find he was alone.Anxiety sat up and had a splitting headache. He shuffled out to get some waterand saw Logan reading a book. He glanced up and Anxiety stood frozen in thedoorway. There was a moment of silence before Logan asked how he felt.
“Awful,” Anxiety muttered. “How were the fireworks?”
“We missed them. Thomas seemed to enjoy them though, despitethe anxiety he felt during the show.”
Anxiety groaned and walked past Logan to get a glass ofwater. Logan shut his book and followed. “Look I get it. I ruined things,”Anxiety said. “Whatever.”
Logan shook his head. “Thomas may have wished that he wasn’tanxious, but he wasn’t here when you had your, ah…attack. Do you need anything?”
“Just water.” Anxiety got a glass and filled it in the sink.
There was another moment of silence while Anxiety drank.Logan finally said, “I’m surprised you didn’t know about the echo.”
Anxiety looked at Logan with raised eyebrows. “So that wasyou who told me that?”
Logan nodded. “The others couldn’t figure out why you wereso panicked, but I figured that might be the case. You probably weren’texpecting them to be so loud like that.”
“Well…Now I know, I guess.”
Logan nodded. More silence. It was always silent between thetwo of them. Logan added, “I hope you can enjoy next years.”
“Oh yeah. And cause even more trouble? If Thomas could leaveme behind, I know he would.”
“Maybe. But he can’t. So maybe we can help get you used tothe volume before next year. Then everyone—yourself included—can fully enjoythe spectacle.”
Anxiety stared at Logan. He probably only wanted to actuallyenjoy them for himself. That made sense. If Anxiety kept causing problems likethis, it would be disastrous for everyone. But even so. Maybe it wouldn’t betoo bad to actually be able to enjoy them.
“I’m going back to bed.”

Star Wars Half Marathon Episode III: The Half Marathon
You would think the second day of doing anything would be easier than the first. You have your stuff together, you know what you need, and everything should go smoothly, right? Wrong. I don’t know why but getting up for the Half is always worse than the 10K the day before. Instead of having all of my outfit in one place, part of it is usually in the dryer and things are scattered all over from where I dropped them the day before because I was too tired to go looking for them before bed. I decided to leave my wrist sweat band behind since I forgot to wash it and it got too tight to be comfortable the day before, and added one of my old Star Wars Weekends name tags. None of this helped me get ready faster, but they seemed like good ideas at the time. I even set my alarm five minutes earlier, but I still got out the door Sunday about ten minutes later than I did Saturday morning.
This time I paid no attention to where I parked and they were already letting us make our way to the buses. I recognized a voice to my left directing everyone towards the red balloons and I immediately headed her way. It was Katy, one of my friends from my college program when we worked at the Jungle Cruise. She broke off mid-sentence and yelled my name as loudly as she was giving directions, drawing laughter from everyone around us. We hugged and I told her I’d look for her at the finish.
It was about the time I got on the bus I realized I had made a critical error. I had forgotten my snack! I usually always bring two packs of peanut butter crackers and eat them on the drive in, or at least a granola bar. I had absolutely nothing, and all my cash was in the car that was now being left behind at Epcot. Oh boy.
Captain Phasma somehow made it out of the trash compactor.
DJ Elliot
I jumped in line for Captain Phasma as soon as I could. She was the only one left that I had never met, and apparently every character with a helmet talks now. I should have checked the wait times first and gone for Darth Vader because by the time I was out of her line, Vader was up to a 75 minute wait. It was about 4:15 and the characters were being pulled at 5 am. No way would I have time. I didn’t feel like waiting for Boba Fett or BB-8 again so I went over to the stage to watch DJ Elliot and Disney Parks Blog Guy do more trivia questions. There were lots of Disney Photopass Cast Members milling around, but a lady asked me to take her picture. She handed me an android and there was no camera button anywhere on the screen. I’m an iPhone girl and I was very confused. She insisted I just hold down on the screen and I did, multiple times.
She went to check the photo and it wasn’t there, instead she ended up pulling up a close up of herself in a bikini that she then could not get to go away. That was right when the Stormtroopers showed up on stage and I wanted to watch it and try to film them, but she wanted me to try again.(Like waiting until the Stormtroopers were done would have made a difference!) We tried again and the same thing happened. Getting fairly irritated at this point, I asked her if she could make it have a camera button so there would be something to push instead of tapping the screen and hoping it worked. Finally it took and she was happy, just as the Stormtroopers left the stage. She thanked me and went to join the Cast Member group photo they just announced. So no Stormtroopers video for Chelsea. (They repeated the show while I was in the starting corrals but I was too far back to be able to see it and my phone would not pick up the screen at such a distance.)
This time I was smarter and used the bathrooms in the runner only section. The line was not much shorter, but better than the one I waited in the day before. I headed for Corral F. I have never been in such a high start corral, and I was only one from the back because of their new mini wave procedure. I will say I do not like it. The corrals are HUGE and I get it is probably less work for Disney, but it’s impossible to get to the front of your corral and would be very easy to get separated. I also had issues on the course because I usually look at the corrals on the bibs of runners around to gauge where I am in the pack. It’s a little harder when everyone has either Corral F or G. Normally I can look and tell if I’m in trouble when I’m in Corral I and I see a bunch of Corral Ks around me.
My friend Andria had been doing all three races as part of her Kessel Run Challenge and we hadn’t seen each other yet, but we were in the same corral today! (Why wouldn’t we be, practically everyone who wasn’t a first timer was in this corral…) She texted me where she and her boyfriend were and I went wandering to find her, I walked straight past her when she saw me. We were both talking about how unprepared we were and how we were probably going to die. I am so mad at myself for not being clever enough to say, “I have a bad feeling about this.”
Even once our corral started moving, making it to the actual starting line took quite a while because of how many people there were. I was quite surprised by the amount of fireworks they were shooting off with each wave, I feel my other races have been one little burst where this was more like a fifteen second show.
youtube
The three of us crossed the starting line together. I saw one person with a stroller that got pulled off to the side, but another stroller that kept going. I thought strollers were not permitted so I am not sure how they made it into the corral in the first place. Over to my right I saw the line of Guest Relations Cast Members in their plaid and reflective vests and saw my friend Jeff standing there. I’ve seen him at almost every race I’ve run and today followed our tradition exactly. I yelled, “HI JEFF!”, and he yelled back, “HI CHELSEA! HAVE A GREAT RACE!” It was about that point I noticed Andria was behind me and I tried to slow up for her, but I lost her in the crowd a minute later. I looked at her boyfriend, “I think we lost her.” “Yeah, this happened yesterday. I feel bad but my legs are just too long.”
I kept pace with him up until we reached the marching band in the same spot it was at the 10K. My pouch came loose and I ran with it in my hand for a bit, but I had to stop to readjust. I have never had it come off before! I started running again immediately after, but he was already gone.
R2-D2 was in the same spot he was in for the 10K, this time with a much shorter line. I stopped fast and cut sideways to reach it, trying not to run directly in front of anyone and cut them off. His line moved quick and I probably did not wait for more than seven minutes, but it gave me enough time to realize something horrifying. In my heart I believe R2-D2 is a real droid and he’s beeping and buzzing all on his own, just like there is only one Mickey Mouse, but obviously I know he has a little help from technicians. Just usually you can’t see them. They had the R2-D2 operator sitting off to the side in plain sight! Come on, Disney, I know there’s no kids on the course since you have to be fourteen to run, but that’s no excuse! I was horrified, but I got my picture and went on my way.
Beep boop.
Pay no attention to the woman with the box.
Every burst of fireworks is comforting for me on a race, it means there’s another group of people in front of the Balloon Ladies. I heard the last one a little after the first mile marker, just as I made the turn down Bear Island Road. My strategy this time was a mixture of trying to put distance between myself and the last corral while still saving energy for running through the parks. I also knew it was only going to get hotter and that would slow me down.
The next photo op I came to was on my right, the Endor speeder bikes. I kept going since it was meant for two people and I’d look sort of sad all by myself. This stretch was a two lane road with trees on either side, and right at the two mile marker was my favorite effect I have ever seen on a RunDisney course. There were lasers flashing overhead with smoke, sound effects, and strobe lights so it was like you were running through the battle on Endor, complete with Ewok cries. I didn’t want to stop to get my phone out, but RunDisney included a video of it in their high-light reel from someone’s Twitter account.
A little further on, there was a Cast Member on the left at the end of the line yelling, “Ewoks over here!” I stopped and turned hard, and then had to double check with the girls in front of me, “She said Ewoks, right?” (Really Spellcheck, you recognize Ewok as a word but not Ewoks?) They took about ten minutes and I had to resist the urge to hug them. Race characters are not quite the same as park characters, it is more of a “smile, click, go, next!” Meeting. Plus, I was sweaty and I did not wish to get sweat on an Ewok.
There was a photo spot that was more of a scene and not characters, where you could pose in the trash compactor like you were trying to brace it. I probably should have stopped but I was worried about time and I had lost track of who was around me. I had seen the three hours and thirty minutes pacer group earlier but not in a long time. (There are multiple pacer groups and you can sign up with them to follow to hit your target time.)
The course then took us into the backstage area of Animal Kingdom, where we ran past the vehicle storage for the train and the rhino house. Where else can you see a rhino on a half marathon? We entered into the actual park between the Maharajah Jungle Trek and Kali River Rapids before turning left and heading towards Expedition Everest. I picked up the pace, it’s so much easier to run in the parks than the open road. There’s usually people cheering and it just gives you an energy boost. I swung into the restroom by Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama just before we went backstage again. Why use port-a-potties when you can have real sinks? I took a wet towel and wiped my face down. I did not think of the heat and increased sweat it would bring when I decided to leave my sweat band behind. I also grabbed a Pokestop real quick because I was unsure when I would get another opportunity.
Just backstage were two Stormtroopers and a little further down were the Emperor and two of the red guards. Behind them were members of the 501st so I am not entirely sure if the Emperor was an official Disney character or not. We came out into the Animal Kingdom parking lot and the course looped around towards the bus parking before heading back out towards the main road. There was a couple with signs off to the side that made me giggle. One had a picture of Darth Vader and read, “You don’t know the power of a Mickey Bar.”
There was another photo station half way through the parking lot, and had I understood what it was better, I would have stopped. It was the ice cave with the Wampa with a Lightsaber above you to reach for. I didn’t realize you were supposed to turn the picture upside down.
I feel like there were more water stops on the course than there actually were on the map, probably due to the high temperatures and heat advisory. Just past the next water stop was Vader’s chair, and at this point we were about half way there, just past mile six and the 10K marker. This is usually when the race starts being a little less fun. I don’t know how, but according to my runner tracking I had the exact same time on this 10K as the 10K the day before, right down to the second. Apparently all my running more than equaled out my stopping.
A little ways down the road I encountered a guy I have seen at previous RunDisney races, dressed in Gryffindor robes and holding a sign that reads “I AM NOT AT THE WRONG PARK! Hogwarts Running Club”. The Hogwarts Running Club is a non-profit organization that puts on “virtual” races themed around Harry Potter and all the proceeds go to charity. A virtual race is one that can be done anywhere, at any time, and the medal shows up in the mail. I have only done one of their races myself, and I intend to do more in the future even though I’m not counting them towards my 30 by 30. The more races I run, the more of their runners I see.
I got my first scare about time as I went up the hill on Osceola Parkway. Through the trees I could see the Animal Kingdom parking lot where we had come through and the back part was empty. I tried not to panic. The last runners still had to be at least a mile behind me, right?
I made the turn onto World Drive and, as C-3P0 would say, thank the maker there was the food stop. It’s not food per say, but a Cliff gel shot. I had never used gels in my life before RunDisney and as of yet have never eaten one off the course, but after not eating anything before the race I was running out of steam. Normally there are volunteers shouting what flavors they have but this group was just sitting at their tables. I tried to read the flavors as I went, looking for vanilla, but I couldn’t find it. Determined not to backtrack, I just took the one at the last table. I should have gone back. Mocha was disgusting and I made a mess when I accidentally bit part of the packet off with it.
It was only about a mile down World Drive to the turn for Hollywood Studios, but it seemed to take forever. The sun was high in the sky and everyone was basically at a walk. This turned out to be the most exciting part of the course for me, however. A few months ago, I noticed what I thought was a pedestrian bridge from Hollywood Studios across World Drive and ever since I’ve been very curious about what it could mean for Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land. It looks like a long box which is why I thought it might be a covered bridge for guests, with sides so no one would see the cars below. I would be walking right underneath it and finally able to get a good look. I stared at the sides of it as I slowly realized I was not staring at a bridge, I was staring at a RIDE TRACK! It looks like a coaster or something that a vehicle would be anchored on rather than driving over, and there is definitely construction going on the other side of World Drive so I’m thinking it could be transportation Hogwarts Express style. I couldn’t see a way back and there was only one track that I could see, but I am super excited about this.
Just past the ninth mile marker, the course became the same as the 10K course the day before, heading up the long ramp and into Hollywood Studios. The only good part of this was that, once I made it to the top, I could look back and see how many people were behind me. I didn’t need to worry anymore, I could barely make out the end of the crowd and there were still probably stragglers behind them!
Darth Maul was right inside the turn into the backstage area like he was the day before, but with a much shorter line. I guess that’s the good thing about seeing the same characters twice. I came up into the Fantasmic stadium but this time the 501st were no where to be found, and outside Tower of Terror I encountered some very confused guests in the park for Extra Magic Hours. Running down Hollywood Boulevard I ran across a manager I used to work with, who is usually in Fantasyland during races with a box of kleenex. (No, seriously, I’ve seen him like four times and he always has kleenex which is super helpful.) I pointed at him and yelled, “You’re in the wrong park!” As I ran by, he shouted back, “Yes I am!”
There were no Stormtoopers in the park itself this time, but I found two as I made my way backstage at the front of the park. I managed to pick up a run and keep it up as I headed into the area in front of Hollywood Studios until the course narrowed as we turned towards the Boardwalk. It’s too tight to run, and to all those people who like to try to keep running and yell “EXCUSE ME!” at everyone, I want you to know everyone around you thinks you’re a jerk.
AWR or Deathtrooper.
We made our way under an overpass and they had red light effects with Vader’s breathing playing, a simple but nice addition to what would otherwise be a rather bland part of the course. This time we took the long way around the Boardwalk, but at this point the wood was at least dry so I could keep a fast pace. Near the Abracadarbar were spectators holding signs that read, “I AM PROUD OF YOU PERFECT STRANGER!” More people were on the other side with snacks for those needing a little more energy, and I just think it’s really cool that people get up that early and do this kind of thing. One day I would like to at a race I’m not running. Near the end of the Boardwalk were the 501st and I stopped for a photo with a Deathtrooper, and then I stopped to stretch my calves while I got my phone back in my pouch.
The last water stop was backstage at Epcot and I realized we must be going around World Showcase instead of out the front like the 10K. Going over the bridge from the U.K. to France there was a very hoarse Cast Member cheering, “You’re almost there! You got this! I may be losing my voice but I ain’t losing my faith in y’all!” I powered through most of the park with a quick stop in Japan for a final selfie. There were tons of Photopass photographers out on both sides.
Finish photo by Disney Photopass.
I made my way out at the front of Epcot again to find more of the 501st waiting but at this point, I was not stopping so close to the thirteenth mile marker. There was a Disney Security guard yelling encouragement as I rounded the turn and as soon as I saw the Finish Line I moved into a dead run. I went as hard and as fast as I had left in me and crossed the Finish Line just short of a sprint, and had to pull up hard so I didn’t hit the woman who stopped in front of me. (Hint: Don’t stop right at the Finish Line. Run through it!) I headed towards the volunteers handing out medals and this time found a wonderful woman who put it around my neck instead of handing it to me. Yay! Then I got a cooling towel and I have never been so happy with the swag at a race in my life. The Princess Half you usually get a bag and sometimes it’s a mylar blanket if it’s cold. The congratulations texts started coming in and I pulled out my phone to check my time. I knew what my Fitbit said but since I always start it before I actually cross the start line I never trust it so I go off the runner tracking. 03:24:33, while not my best time is definitely not my worst. Especially since I did zero training and stopped for several photos and the bathroom.
The medical crew were in the middle of the Powerade and water stations on a megaphone encouraging people to drink and offering to open the bottles for anyone whose hands were too full. They were out of blue Powerade so I wound up with yellow. Bleh.
I headed down to the Challenge Medal tent where they checked my face against the picture they took at the Expo and made sure the bib number was correct before I was presented with my Challenge Medal. I looked enviously over at the Kessel Run Challenge and Coast to Coast Medals, someday! Then I got my snack box and headed out towards the characters. There were so many people relaxing on the ground and I understand recovery, but there are photos to get!
I hopped in line for Kylo Ren for about thirty seconds before I changed my mind and went to Darth Vader’s. Kylo Ren is in the parks and Vader is not, so I decided to wait out the forty minutes. Andria came to find me to say good-bye and show me all her awesome medals (she did the Kessel run, I swear I’m not jealous…). I kept an eye out for Katy but didn’t see her anywhere, and at this point I was too tired to look for her. The photo with Vader was super quick, but I got what I wanted and headed out. I stopped to try to take a picture with the banner, but was struggling to get the sign and the medals in the selfie. Thankfully a lady saw me struggling and offered to help, then I took a group photo for them. I started to head to my car and was worried it would take me a while to find it since I didn’t pay attention to where I parked, but thankfully enough of the other cars had left the parking lot so Cupid was easy to spot. (Yes, my car’s name is Cupid.) My fan club was waiting in the car for the perfect photo with all three medals.
I came very close to falling asleep on the drive home, but then of course once I showered, I couldn’t sleep so I resumed my Star Wars movie marathon. I finished Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones already so I moved onto Revenge of the Sith. I then watched Rogue One again even though I watched it like a week ago, and I passed out sometime during A New Hope. I’ve got more blisters than I’m used to post race, but I’m not as sore as I expected. As of right now, I don’t have another race until November for the Wine and Dine Challenge. Maybe I’ll actually get on my training schedule this time!
Probably not.
