Late Morning || Cheapside, London || Early April 1800
The chime above the pawnbrokers rung out as Adelson stepped out onto the street, grin flashing along with the pocket watch that rested heavy in his hand as it caught the late morning sun.
There was no identifiable mark to determine the maker, but it was clearly well-made with an elegant chain that would save him the trouble (and embarrassment) of fumbling with his pockets. Buying from a pawnbroker wasn’t the ideal way to obtain such an item (one would prefer a family heirloom, perhaps a gift from a king or prince that was subsequently passed between Dukes for generations) but it had the look of an accessory with a storied history, and that was ultimately what mattered.
He made a show of clicking open the lid of the watch, the corner of his mouth quirking up. He fancied he looked like any busy and important gentleman about Town. The smile slipped from his face as he caught sight of the time. Damn, he was going to be late.
The clang of St. Paul’s bells solidified the point. He dropped the watch back in his pocket and looked around. Shorter and slighter than the other gentlemen milling about, it was an effort to see through the crowd and identify the best route to the main street. He pushed onto his toes, stumbling into a passerby as he fell back onto the heels of his feet. “I beg your pardon,” he said hastily, attention still split as he oriented himself.

To his left, the river burbled happily, mocking him. To their right, the cool shadow of the forest beckoned. Adelson was forced to trudge along inbetween, feet growing heavier with each step.
“Perhaps most of the group has already returned to the house. We might do the same, if only to check that we are not holding up the party.”
It was wishful thinking talking more than logic. “One bird each is respectable. Enough success to bring this outing to a close, to be sure. ” Something skittered in his periphery. He frowned, pausing misstep, but wrote it off and continued along when their surroundings remained undisturbed. His vision was liable to go a bit fuzzy these days.
“Once we get far enough along and have a catch each, we should head south. Lord Halifax is sure to best all of us anyway, he has excellent instincts. The ton underestimates him. He possesses a certain acuity that—”
Adelson stopped short. A grouse stood in the middle of the path just ahead, brazen, it’s tiny black eyes assessing him.
He fumbled for his gun, lined up the shot, braced himself, missed again. The feathered devil darted away, feathers thrumming like a low, throaty laugh.
“Not a word.”

Kit, who had gone into this rather biased against his hunting partner, felt the unfamiliar feeling of guilt as if he’d betrayed him. As if that moment in the clearing, the fever dream with all of the George’s running a-mock, solidified an unspoken understanding. Kit clapped Will on the shoulder, a sly grin on his face as if to say ‘atta boy as he snatched his flash back, took a swig, and them promptly handed it back. “I’ve had enough of the woods,” Kit told him as he stepped gratefully onto the boat and greeted both men.
Moments later, there was a flurry of chaos, wings flapping, dogs barking and Effingham shouting orders. Kit fired, and though the furious squawk let him know it was a valiant effort, no grouse fell from the sky. “Damn,” Kit muttered, lowering his gun as he watched the flock fly away unscathed. Then turning his attention to Effingham, he lied. “You’re the first party we’ve come across. It seems everyone scattered rather nicely.” He turned to Jacobs then, giving the man a nod. “Tell me, what short stick did you draw to be paired with our dear Captain?” Kit laughed, noting the bit of tension between the two. Kit, who’s choice of direction had led them into more trouble than he wanted, was content to allow the Earl to make the geographical decisions. “Take us North, take us South,” Kit told him, reaching expectantly for the flask from Hastings. “I am but here for the ride.”
@baronwillliam
“The woods are nice,” William muttered without any intent of being heard, closing up the flask and slipping it into his own pocket for the moment since apparently he and Dartford shared things now. Or maybe he just understood that a good, strong drink was needed when it came to dealing with certain people. Maybe he should be proud of Dartford for not taking a swig directly in front of the king, come to think of it.
“We didn’t scatter well enough.” William took in their surroundings with an expectant gaze. The wind appeared to be picking up, the breeze causing the trees to rustle as the cry of birds carried across the water to them, and William hummed before reaching into his coat to retrieve Dartford’s flask and hand it over.
“The way I see it, we have three options. Cross to the other side of the river, allow the river to carry us away to a different point to disembark, or don’t bother with the boat - but the larger of a party there is, the more noise we’ll make to scare away the game. Smaller parties are better.” In other words, Will did not want to team up. “Perhaps we should switch, you two on land while Dartford and I take the boat since he seems so keen on water travel now.”
@adelsonjacobs
After hills, meadows, water, constant disparagement and now, from their new compatriots, no promised deliverance of Lord Halifax, Adelson’s brittle patience was nearly entirely withered away.
There was no room for careful nuance, only frustrated extremes. He was too hot, too tired and too irritated to appreciate the levity in Lord Thorne’s tone. The suggestion that being paired with the Earl was a trial grated at him. An objective observer might have pointed out that Adelson had done very little to suggest that it wasn’t, to which Adelson would have been prepared to reply that it was quite different when he was churlish with Lord Effingham.
“I quite agree with Mr. Hastings,” Adelson said cooly. “Smaller parties are better, and I find I much prefer my current one.”
“Jove,” Adelson said sharply, with the prim command of a Duchess. The dog sat at attention, for the first time looking the part of a hunting hound (save his nose, yellowed with pollen from sniffing at a patch of buttercups.)
Some failings could be overlooked.
He nodded North, along the shoreline. It was counterproductive to stake out in the same direction the other gentlemen had come, but this path would keep them close enough to woods as to hopefully yield results.
“Lead the way.”
@ixnay-on-the-ipshay
-
He stared in some bemusement as Dartford swanned right past them all – had ensconced himself with a-a flask and a quip, even as Hastings laid out, hrm, options.
“Good God, Hastings – lighten up; this is-is no campaign in need of-of strategy. Having just come from the water – as I had just said –” the last bit aimed at the viscount who had-had hailed them as if he was in a hackney for hire and they the driver and horses both, “– I should prefer to have my try at the-the woods, now that you both are so-so generously quitting it.”
Damme it, did this mean he was – agreeing with Mr. Jacobs? A glance over his shoulder confirmed it, along with Jove’s status as either easily duped or a fickle traitor – sitting primly at the other man’s feet, tail thumping.
Best not to think too much on it.
He gave Dartford and Hastings each a nod – shouldered his own rifle – and gestured ahead. “Godspeed to you both – the boat lists terribly to one side and-and has only the one set of-of oars, mind you; we shall be off. Mr. Jacobs, we should follow along the banks upstream – less chance of us getting turned in-in circles.”
Once they had gone far enough that he judged they were out of-of hearing distance, he added in an undertone, “Poor Hastings; given Dartford’s state – I wager Hastings will be the fellow manning the oars for them both. Rather – dubious that they say they have not run into anyone else, however; my prior visits did not indicate Cliveden being quite that expansive an estate.”

THE SEASON SO FAR as told by Henry “Harry” Cadogan
“Now really,” Harry sighed, lifting his eyes to give Primrose a baleful look. She arrived in London in a flurry, and already the parlor was strewn with her affects. Immediately, she had taken to him -- minding her younger brother, goading him, pushing him toward opinion. “You wish me to rate them?”
It was -- as it turned out -- a rhetorical question.
Adelson Jacobs → ⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ “A damned fool and an irritatingly good equestrian.”
[ When Harry Met Adelson™... at an outing of the Two-Trot Club, a society for equine enthusiasts. While they immediately bonded over this, their friendship did not last: Adelson is a curmudgeon on the subject of love, and Harry finds this a truly lacking characteristic. ]
Alexandre Mortier → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “Dresses well, seems to have an unholy penchant for red wine. Ah, the French!”
[ When Harry Met Alexandre™... they have not yet! Though I presume they have encountered each other at Brooks’s, where Harry is fiendish about oysters and card games. ]
Anthony ‘Tony’ Fraser → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “A true gentlemen and brave to boot! I should like to dine with him any evening.”
[ When Harry Met Tony™... at Brooks’s! With oysters! Harry immediately took to Tony’s cheerful attitude and foreign flair, and he thinks they are two kindred spirits, galavanting around the Ton in search of love. ]
Archibald Howard St. John → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ “Quite reformed, once out of Beatrice’s clutches. We are a complimentary pair.”
[ When Harry Met Archie™... Archie came to 131 Kean Street in search of his elder sister, Beatrice, with whom he had a friendship. What luck -- instead, he found Harry! Harry considers him an odd fellow with a good outlook upon the world. He enjoys their conversations and confides in him. ]
Atticus ‘Kit’ Thorne  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Absolutely capital! A rake, a riot, and really quite dreadful at paper-projectiles.”
[ When Harry Met Kit™... at Oxford! They were troublemaking lads who seemed to egg each other on to further adventures. He’s glad to find him in London, though their objectives seem different. ]
Aurelia Merchant  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ "Quite lovely of face, though we have not yet met.”
[ When Harry Met Aurelia™ ... they haven’t yet! Though I am sure Harry noticed her at the Regatta. ]
Caroline Hale  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “Attractive and useful! Though she did side with the modiste’s assistant quite readily. Women.”
[ When Harry Met Caroline™... at Mrs. Bell’s modiste! The assistant was refusing to hand over a package to him for lace, and Caroline kindly intervened to assist him. ]
Catherine Lockhart  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “Reminds me of a songbird, all chat and bright smiles.”
[ When Harry Met Kate™... they haven’t yet! Harry surely noticed her at the Regatta, or Margate thereafter. He finds her youthfulness charming. ]
Conrad Mowbray  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “A capital lad, surely!”
[ When Harry Met Conrad™... they haven’t yet! But when they do: this star rating might change. ]
Dulcinea Hallivand 🦉 → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ “Bless a woman who knows what she prefers.”
[ When Harry Met Lady Hallivand™... Harry sat through one of Lady Hallivand’s lectures on maritime birding in the spring. He found it interesting, though her affectation
Diana Bartlett  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “A marvel.”
[ When Harry Met Diana™... at Pleasant Pairings, a blind-date event held at Gunter’s Ice Cream Shop. They immediately engaged in a game of mystery identities, and Harry has been captivated ever since. ]
Emmeline Thorne  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ “Excellent taste in lace and weather events.”
[ When Harry Met Emmeline™... at Mrs. Bell’s, again! She entranced him with lace selection, a vision of the future, and her pretty smile. ]
Frances Fitzroy  → ⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ “It is amazing that such an icicle can dance.”
[ When Harry Met Frances™... at the Queen’s Ball! He found her quite attractive, but she laughed at exactly zero of his jokes. Off the list. ]
Henry ‘Harry’ Cadogan  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “The best lad.”
Henrietta Fortescue  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “All I know, I’ve heard in rumor. Seems she’s quite a popular one.”
[ When Harry Met Henrietta™... they haven’t yet! He’s heard some stories of our Coquette, though. One wonders which are true. ]
Jeremiah Ackerley  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ “One wonders how he’s managed this far, really, being so poor at badminton.”
[ When Harry Met Jerry™... at the badminton courts! Harry now considers their weekly matches an unbreakable appointment each Saturday morning. ]
June Croft  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “How curious a name. What will they think of next? September?”
[ When Harry Met June™ ... they haven’t yet! But soon. One hopes. Particularly as she’s familiar with one of his best lads, Kit. ]
Lucy Herzog  → ⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ “For a princess, she has abhorrent taste in men.”
[ When Harry Met Lucy™... only in gray matter! He knows that she is friends with Adelson, which he finds baffling. ]
Margaret Mulgrave  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ “Quite foolish in her beliefs, though she manages to be enrapturing all the same. Keep her away from a mallet, for cert.”
[ When Harry Met Margaret™... at Margate, playing croquet! He is rather fascinated by her, and almost protective in a brotherly way -- which suits, for they shall soon be cousins-in-law. ]
Nicholas Brooksbank  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ “Prefers not to have fun, but can be coaxed into doing so. Capital.”
[ When Harry Met Nik™... at Oxford! Harry and Nik are polar opposites at times, and had a way of clashing while in school. It will be fun to see how they get on now that they are proper adults. ]
Ophelia Vane  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ There is no comment here, save for a lifting of brows and a sudden interest in his fingernails.
[ When Harry Met Ophelia™... in their adjoining courtyards, one perfectly lovely May morning. Harry had lost his hat in the petunias the night before and Ophelia returned it to him. He has been her captive ever since. ]
Richard Harcourt  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ “Upstanding, decently decadent, and sporting a much better haircut than when I saw him last!”
[ When Harry Met Richard™... in childhood! The boys have been distant cousins for some time. ]
Sarah St. John  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ “An excellent lady of commerce, though she is dreadfully distractible.”
[ When Harry Met Sarah™... buying a cream-salve for his skin after a particularly disastrous encounter with a dull razor. He’s indebted to her supplier. ]
Sebastian Herzog  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “Can one even speak poorly of a prince, much less one in absentia? He seems quite strapping and built for sport. A shame he left.”
[ When Harry Met Sebastian™... they haven’t! Though I am sure Harry made his acquaintance at one function or another. ]
Sidney Wyatt  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “Appears to be a person, yes.”
[ When Harry Met Sid™... they haven’t! All Harry needs in his life is Jerry. ]
Sophia Weston  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “I thought widows were meant to wear bl-- ouch, Primrose! That was my ear!”
[ When Harry Met Sophia™... they haven’t! Though he’s surely noticed her presence at the Queen’s Ball and Regatta. ]
Victoria Howard St. John  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “Effingham’s lady-wife. Always seems to be glowering at an angle. Perhaps it is unhappiness at home? I know I could not bear Effingham’s chat all day.”
[ When Harry Met Victoria™... they haven’t! CAL YOU HAVE TOO MANY CHARACTERS. ]
William Hastings  → ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ “Good man, good man. Bit hard to pick out of a crowd, though. Is he Irish? He’s mastered a clever goodbye.”
[ When Harry Met Will™... they haven’t, formally. But Harry has noticed him, particularly as a fellow gentleman at the Regatta amidst all of the fanfare. ]

Kevin Cage of @spotlightsaga reviews... Riverdale (S01E06) Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Airdate: March 2, 2017 @cwnetwork Ratings: 1.089 Million :: 0.38 18-49 Demo Share Score: 7.5/10 **********SPOILERS BELOW********** In my head instead of the hearing the iconic 'Riverdale' riff, I hear "DUN DUN DUNNN!" This episode was literally slathered down with rich, dramatic elements and juicy subplots. I hear the comic book purist moan, but the television lovers are rejoicing. At some point, 'Riverdale' just took off running and hasn't slowed down a bit... "It's not a sprint, it's more of a face paced gallop", with high-fiving plot sticks as the series navigates it's way through the marathon. Personally, I'm eating it up, and comic book purist should let up... 75+ years of a well developed world and characters don't just immediately translate on screen...They have to come of age, especially in a high school setting. I mean do we really want the show to just jump in to the widely-known facts about certain characters? Hell no we don't!!! We want to strap in, take a ride, and then comeback next season when they add a couple of new dips and flips. Patience, my young ones, patience! It's actually kind of funny, because I literally know almost next to nothing about the Archie universe outside of this show, but there is one key thing about a character I do know... And mentioning it here could be considered a spoiler, and I'm not a spoiled sport, so I won't do that... But let's just say if they choose to go down than route. Which I think they will, when and if they do it - it will be revolutionary! I just don't understand why people get so caught up in canon, that they can't even allow a show six episodes before they demand it. And can't we all agree that no matter what happens in the future for any of these characters that life is complicated, chemistry is weird, and I'm willing to bet that everyone flipped head over heels for that Jughead/Betty kiss. What's interesting is what happened right after. Sure Betty kissed him back and for a split second there were fireworks emitting from my television screen, but Betty is so caught up in Jason's mystery, the involvement of Polly, and the overall thrill of the chase, that she barely even reacted! If I was Jughead I might be offended, or turned on by Betty's passion, or simply confused. Either way, it's one of the three... Where the show will take it next... Well, that's for us to find out, not for comic book purist to shout out on the highest mountain. I mean, are they pissed they've dedicated so much time to the digest itself and just have no idea where this is going next... Because if so, that's an ego thing, and all egos must be checked at the door. Anyways, that's not even the tip of the iceberg. Josie & the Pussycats were highlighted nicely in this episode, we've established that well ummm .... Josie is kind of a bitch, but the show gives us the why and reasons why she has to be strong, she's gotta be determined, she HAS to succeed... So any hint of discord and she's a bit of a spaz. Luckily, she really isn't all that bad, and even though she lashes out with more then just purrs and pats, she lashes out with claws fully extended! Josie is rational enough to step back and really think things through once she processes all of her feelings. I wanted Valerie to work with Archie, and the show made me legit mad at Josie, but by the end I was glad that Archie ended up going alone and that Valerie returns to the band. Veronica put a lot of effort into swaying Kevin to get him back Into the talent show, and after Valerie initially turned him down to do a duet with him on stage, she even offered up to go out there with him. Veronica may not be a 'Valerie' when in comes to being musically inclined, but damn Archie, don't ya owe the girl something? Talk about a snub! On top of all of that 'Ronnie' is dealing with some serious issues with her mother, her lack of devotion to her incarcerated father, and the fact that Veronica's mom seems to be cozying up with Archie's dad. Veronica isn't the type of girl that you want on your bad side. Remember that Archie! Even though 'Riverdale' gave us another blast of an episode (man this show is really filling the void that other shows have left behind), we still all felt the absence of Cheryl Blossom. She must be floating around her creepy mansion like the "Gothic Heroine" as Jughead described her as in the last episode. Hopefully she won't stay gone for too long, she's one of my favorite characters in the show and though I'm glad that Chapter 6 expanded this 'Riverdale Universe' even further, I'm going to need Cheryl back next week ASAP!

The Latest: Businessman wins Maine GOP governor nomination
New Post has been published on https://is.gd/6quV45
The Latest: Businessman wins Maine GOP governor nomination
The Latest on primaries in five states (all times EDT):
12:32 a.m.
Republican businessman Shawn Moody has won Tuesday’s ranked-choice voting primary in the race to succeed Maine’s firebrand Gov. Paul LePage, while no clear majority winner has emerged in the Democratic primary.
The founder of a string of auto repair shops won a majority of the Republican vote, meaning there’s no need for additional rounds of voting under the system used in a statewide primary for the first time in U.S. history.
If the Democratic result holds when all of the votes are counted, there would be additional rounds of vote tabulations next week.
__
12:17 a.m.
Democrats have settled a bruising primary for Nevada governor, nominating Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak to take on the state’s Republican attorney general in November.
Sisolak, who had the backing of former Sen. Harry Reid and chairs the powerful commission overseeing the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding communities, defeated his commission colleague Christina Giunchigliani.
His general election opponent, Adam Laxalt, easily won the backing of Nevada Republicans.
__
12:09 a.m.
South Carolina Rep. Mark Sanford has lost the Republican nomination for his congressional seat to an opponent who attacked his criticism of President Donald Trump.
Voters on Tuesday decided state Rep. Katie Arrington would be the Republican candidate in the coastal 1st District.
Arrington spent her campaign calling Sanford a “Never Trumper.” And hours before polls closed, Trump posted on Twitter supporting her.
Sanford is a former governor who has never lost an election in eight races in South Carolina, even after he admitted to an affair with a woman in Argentina.
In defense of his stance on Trump, Sanford has said he criticizes anyone regardless of party if they deserve it.
__
11:35 p.m.
U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei (AM’-uh-day) has defeated conservative activist Sharron Angle and won the Republican Party’s nomination as he seeks re-election to Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District.
Amodei defeated Angle on Tuesday in the race for the district covering Nevada’s northern half.
Amodei is expected to win re-election in November to the Republican-heavy district.
He was first elected in 2011 to replace Dean Heller, who had been appointed to the U.S. Senate.
Angle is a former legislator who gained national attention in 2010 when she unsuccessfully challenged ex-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. She also lost a 2016 bid to become the GOP’s nominee to replace Reid.
___
11:20 p.m.
Three Democrats have locked up nominations for congressional seats in Nevada.
U.S. Rep. Dina Titus defeated challenger Reuben D’Silva on Tuesday in her bid for re-election in the 1st Congressional District.
Susie Lee cruised to an easy primary victory in a key congressional race in Nevada, setting up a battle in November for the seat left open when U.S. Rep. Jacky Rosen decided to run for Senate.
Lee captured the nomination against largely unknown rivals in the 3rd District covering much of suburban Las Vegas.
And Steven Horsford won the primary for the 4th District seat he held in southern Nevada for one term before Republican Cresent Hardy defeated him in 2014.
He’ll face a rematch in November against Hardy, who captured the GOP nomination Tuesday night.

11:05 p.m.
Republican state Attorney General Adam Laxalt has defeated more than half a dozen opponents to become the GOP nominee for Nevada governor.
The 39-year-old faced state Treasurer Dan Schwartz and six other lesser-known candidates in Tuesday’s election.
Laxalt is a former lieutenant in the U.S. Navy who has served as the state’s chief prosecutor since 2015. He’s the grandson of former U.S. Sen. and Nevada Gov. Paul Laxalt and son of former U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici of New Mexico.
He supported Donald Trump for president in 2016.
He’s backed in his bid for governor by billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson and Americans for Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group funded by the wealthy Koch brothers.
Moderate Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval is leaving the office because he is term-limited.
___
11 p.m.
Nevada Republican Dean Heller has secured his party’s nomination as he seeks re-election to the U.S. Senate.
Heller defeated four others in the Republican primary on Tuesday. He was able to cruise through his primary race after President Donald Trump earlier this year persuaded Heller’s main challenger, Danny Tarkanian, to drop out. Tarkanian sought a U.S. House seat instead.
Heller is considered the most vulnerable Republican U.S. senator seeking re-election this year because he’s the only one running in a state that Democrat Hillary Clinton won in 2016.
Heller was a past critic of the president but has become closer to him in recent months and helped deliver the overhaul of the U.S. tax codes to Trump’s desk in December.
Heller is expected to have a close race in November against Democrat Jacky Rosen.

10:55 p.m.
U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford is trailing in the Republican congressional primary in South Carolina to an opponent supported in last-minute tweets by President Donald Trump.
As results came in Tuesday, Sanford told a crowd in suburban Charleston: “I’ve always been a realist and at this point, based on the numbers I see, I’m going to lose this race.”
With much of the vote counted, state Rep. Katie Arrington was on the cusp of winning outright. But as Sanford spoke to the crowd, the race was still too close to call.
Arrington says Sanford criticized Trump too much, calling him a “Never Trumper.” One ad said “it’s time for Mark Sanford to take a hike — for real this time.”
That refers to 2009, when Sanford’s aides said he was hiking the Appalachian Trail while he actually visited a woman with whom he was having an affair in Argentina.
___
10:25 p.m.
Archie Parnell has won the Democratic nomination in a South Carolina congressional district despite revelations from a divorce filing last month that he beat his wife more than 40 years ago.
Parnell garnered the nomination Tuesday even after Democratic officials including the party’s chairman ask for him to leave the race.
Parnell’s divorce records say in 1973 he broke a glass door with a tire iron, then beat his wife. Parnell didn’t deny the allegations, but said he was a changed man.
Parnell defeated Mark Ali of Rock Hill, Sidney Moore of Rock Hill and professional clown Steven Lough of Camden.
Parnell’s win sets up a rematch with U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman. Parnell lost by just 3 percentage points in a special election last year.
___
10 p.m.
Results are upcoming in dozens of legislative and primary races in Nevada now that polls have closed.
The most closely watched race Tuesday is the gubernatorial primary race in which Clark County Commission colleagues Steve Sisolak (SIHS’-oh-lahk) and Christina Giunchigliani (joon-kihl-ee-AHN’-ee) are vying to be the state’s first Democratic governor in two decades.
Nevada Deputy Secretary of State for Elections Wayne Thorley has said voters were turning out in higher rates than past primary elections because of the close primary race to succeed outgoing Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Republican U.S. Sen. Dean Heller is expected to breeze through the primary race after President Donald Trump earlier persuaded his strongest GOP opponent to drop out.
Election officials in two counties said there were a small number of display problems in which some voters didn’t initially see a complete list of candidates. Fewer than 30 voters were affected.
___
9:25 p.m.
Republican state Sen. Kelly Armstrong has won North Dakota’s U.S. House primary.
Armstrong is vying to replace Rep. Kevin Cramer, who running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Heidi Heitkamp. Cramer won his primary Tuesday.
Armstrong easily defeated former Marine Tiffany Abentroth and former North Dakota State football player Paul Schaffner. State Sen. Tom Campbell also appeared on the ballot despite dropping out of the race.
Armstrong, an attorney from Dickinson, has strong ties to the state’s oil industry.
He’ll face Democrat Mac Schneider, a Grand Forks attorney who had no opposition in the primary. Schneider served two terms in the North Dakota Senate before being unseated in 2016.
___
9:25 p.m.
Joe Cunningham has won the Democratic nomination in South Carolina’s coastal 1st Congressional District.
The construction lawyer and yoga studio owner defeated Toby Smith on Tuesday and will go on to face a Republican in November’s general election.
The district, which includes Charleston and the southern coast, has not elected a Democrat since 1978.
___
9:20 p.m.
Incumbent Henry McMaster has been forced into a runoff for the Republican nomination in South Carolina’s gubernatorial primary.
McMaster was an early supporter of President Donald Trump, and he was the top vote-getter in Tuesday’s primary. But he failed to win the 50 percent necessary to avoid a runoff. Now, he and Greenville businessman John Warren are headed for a second contest June 26.
The vote tested the heft of Trump’s endorsement in South Carolina, where McMaster became governor last year following Nikki Haley’s departure to serve as U.N. ambassador. As lieutenant governor, McMaster was the nation’s first statewide elected official to back Trump ahead of South Carolina’s early presidential primary.
McMaster was unsuccessful in his 2010 gubernatorial bid, losing a four-way primary to Haley. The GOP nominee faces Democratic state Rep. James Smith in November.
___
9:10 p.m.
U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer has defeated a little-known opponent to win North Dakota’s Republican primary for U.S. Senate.
Cramer easily beat Air Force veteran Thomas O’Neill on Tuesday.
Cramer now faces a tougher campaign to unseat Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in a race seen as critical for control of the closely divided Senate.
Cramer is a former state Republican Party chairman. He was first elected to the House in 2012 and has easily won re-election twice since then.
Cramer initially passed up the Senate race this year but said he changed his mind at the urging of President Donald Trump and others who saw him as the GOP’s best hope to defeat Heitkamp.
___
9:05 p.m.
History is being made, in slow motion, in Maine where ranked-choice voting is being used for the first time in a statewide primary election.
Democrats and Republicans ranked candidates for governor from first to last in Tuesday’s primaries in a system that’s sometimes called instant runoff voting in 11 local jurisdictions where it’s currently in use.
But there’s nothing instant about Maine’s process.
If there’s no majority winner, then the ballots will be shipped to the state capital for additional tabulations. Under the system, last-place candidates are eliminated and votes reallocated until there’s a winner.
If it comes down to that, then Secretary of State Matt Dunlap said winners won’t be announced until sometime next week.
Mainers who approved the system in 2016 also voted Tuesday on whether to use the system in November for federal races.
___
8:55 p.m.
Longtime state Rep. James Smith has won the Democratic nomination in South Carolina’s gubernatorial race.
Smith defeated Charleston consultant Phil Noble and Florence attorney Marguerite Willis in Tuesday’s primary.
Smith has led the pack in fundraising, but recent polling in the race showed many voters had yet to make up their minds.
The incumbent, Republican Gov. Henry McMaster, is seeking his first full term in office.
Smith has served in the state Legislature for 22 years. He was a JAG officer in the U.S. Army Reserve and South Carolina Army National Guard but resigned his commission after the Sept. 11 attacks to enlist in the infantry.
Smith has selected fellow state Rep. Mandy Powers Norrell as his running mate.
___
8:50 p.m.
Corey Stewart has won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Virginia and will face incumbent Tim Kaine in the November general election.
Stewart beat state lawmaker Nick Freitas and Chesapeake minister E.W. Jackson in Tuesday’s race.
Stewart is a conservative provocateur who often feuds with members of his party. He’s a one-time state chairman of President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and nearly won the 2017 Republican nomination for governor.
He has pledged to run a “vicious” campaign against Kaine.
Former governor and 2016 vice-presidential candidate Kaine didn’t face primary opposition.
The Democrat is the early favorite to win the general election. Virginia Republicans haven’t won a statewide race in nearly a decade, and Kaine has a massive fundraising advantage over Stewart.
___
8:10 p.m.
U.S. Rep. Barbara Comstock has won the GOP nomination as she seeks re-election in her northern Virginia congressional district that is a prime target of Democrats trying to gain control of the House.
In the Tuesday primary, Comstock fought off a challenge from Shak Hill, who attacked the two-term incumbent as insufficiently conservative and weak in her support of President Donald Trump.
Comstock represents Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. It stretches from the wealthy suburbs of McLean, inside the Capital Beltway, west to Winchester. Comstock won re-election in 2016 with 53 percent of the vote, but Democrats have high hopes of claiming the seat. Voters there supported Hillary Clinton in 2016 by a 10-point margin over Trump.
Six Democrats ran in that party’s primary Tuesday for the opportunity to unseat Comstock.
___
8:05 p.m.
Democrats have elected state Sen. Jennifer Wexton as their nominee in a northern Virginia congressional district key to the party’s hopes of gaining control of the U.S. House.
The 10th District stretches from the wealthy suburbs of McLean inside the Capital Beltway west to Winchester. It is considered the most likely seat in Virginia to flip from Republican to Democratic — Hillary Clinton carried the district by 10 points in 2016, though Republican incumbent Barbara Comstock won re-election with 53 percent of the vote.
The race attracted six Democrats, including four who raised $980,000 or more. Wexton was the only elected official and the favorite after receiving the endorsement of Gov. Ralph Northam.
But several other candidates outraised or matched Wexton in fundraising. One competitor, Alison Friedman, committed $1 million of her money.

7 p.m.
Polls have closed in Virginia and South Carolina’s primary elections.
A bellwether Virginia congressional district promises to be among the most watched races nationally Tuesday as five states hold primaries.
President Donald Trump also will be a factor, notably in two Republican primaries in South Carolina.
Trump is weighing in for South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, an early supporter of the president’s 2016 campaign, and against Republican Rep. Mark Sanford, an outspoken critic of the president who is facing a Trump devotee.
Elections are also scheduled in Maine, Nevada and North Dakota. Together, they raise to 21 the number of states having held their 2018 primary elections so far.
___
5 p.m.
President Donald Trump is urging South Carolina Republican voters to dump frequent critic Rep. Mark Sanford.
Trump says Sanford “has been very unhelpful to me” and is poking fun at his infamous disappearance in 2009, when he was found to have been carrying on an extramarital affair with a woman in Argentina.
Trump tweets “he’s better off in Argentina.”
Sanford was elected during a 2013 special election to the U.S. House seat he had held previously despite the controversy which led to his divorce from his wife, Jenny.
He has called Trump untrustworthy and culturally intolerant, prompting Republican state Rep. Katie Arrington to challenge Sanford.
Trump tweeted his endorsement of Arrington along with the swipe at Sanford.

4:40 p.m.
A bellwether Virginia congressional district promises to be among the most watched races nationally in primary elections in nearly every region of the country Tuesday.
President Donald Trump also will be a factor, notably in two Republican primaries in South Carolina.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has the president’s backing but faces challenges from four other candidates. Republican Rep. Mark Sanford faces a challenge from a state lawmaker painting the outspoken former governor as insufficiently loyal to the president.
Elections are also scheduled in Maine, Nevada and North Dakota. Together, they raise to 21 the number of states having held their 2018 primary elections so far.

Archie Bradley played Santa and a human bowling ball over the weekend
Tumblr media
Archie Bradley played Santa for Arizona State University’s famous Curtain of Distraction. (Twitter/@TheSunDevils)
Archie Bradley, the very talented reliever for the Arizona Diamondbacks, is definitely enjoying his offseason. He was in the Phoenix area for his friend’s bachelor party over the weekend, and he had the time of his life at two different sporting events: an Arizona Coyotes hockey game, and an Arizona State University Sun Devils basketball game. And if you’re wondering if Bradley just watched those games, you know better than that. He was involved in both of them in the best way possible.
Let’s start with Saturday, when Bradley went to the Coyotes game. He participated in a round of human bowling on the ice, and he was the bowling ball. Outfitted in a Coyotes jersey, helmet, knee pads and elbow pads, Bradley sat on a plastic sled and was catapulted down the ice by an actual slingshot until he ran into a bunch of foam pins.

OK, that looks like a lot of fun. And if you’re curious how it looked from Bradley’s perspective, he was wearing a GoPro and recorded the entire ride.

Bradley’s weekend of fun sporting events wasn’t done, though. On Sunday he went to an Arizona State basketball game and actually played a role in their victory against Vanderbilt. Bradley and his voluminous beard played Santa in ASU’s famed Curtain of Distraction. When the opposing team makes free throws, an actual curtain is pulled back on the sidelines and something weird and funny emerges to distract them. On Sunday, it was Archie Bradley as Santa.

And it might have worked! According to azcentral.com, Bradley is unofficially credited with causing Vanderbilt to miss one free throw.
What a day!!! GREAT WIN Sun Devils! Thank you @SunDevilHoops & @942Crew for the love! Get to cross the #CurtainofDistraction off the off bucket list!! #ArchiesAdventures #Day2 #AZSportsTakeover pic.twitter.com/pOdfU2PVmQ

It certainly looks like he had a great time. Though doesn’t Bradley look weirdly familiar dressed as Santa? He looks a little bit like this guy …

This is *not* Archie Bradley, this is actually Kris Kringle from “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
If anyone ever does a live action version of the 1970 Rankin/Bass stop-motion TV special “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” Archie Bradley should definitely play young Kris Kringle.
