Stephanie takes Haruo to the nearby park and Mariko helps Minato garden while Riley heads to the living room. Riley sits on the floor and Nancy grins at this before plonking down next to them. They pull their legs in and glance at their daughter. “Nan, I’m not mad. But I am disappointed that you didn’t tell mom, me, or your grandparents that you were going to somewhere we don’t know about, and that you didn’t come home til late. I was so worried, I thought something happened to you.” They say, their brown eyes full of concern and Nancy’s stomach churns. “I’m so sorry Ren, I got so excited by the idea of going on an adventure and didn’t think.” Nancy says, and Riley nods.

Nancy glances at them and scoots closer. “So, your mom told you we’re not grounding you this time, right?” They say and Nancy nods. “Yeah, thanks Ren. I swear I’ll let you guys know next time.” She says and Riley nods again. “Okay. But if there is a next time you will be grounded and have your tablet taken away for one week.” They say firmly and Nancy nods. “I understand,” she says and Riley sighs, stretching their legs out in front of them. Nancy copies them* and they grin at her, reaching over to smooth a lock of hair off her head.

They sit silently for a second and Riley looks over at Nancy. “So, what happened by the well?” They ask. Nancy gets up and plonks down in their lap, and Riley laughs. “What? The floor is hard and cold and I need to be comfy to tell the story.” She says and Riley nods, putting their arms around their nooboo. Nancy explains about seeing a ghost girl, Edith and how she talked to her a bit and saw her grave. “That’s so sad. I wonder where her parents are and maybe if she could find them and go with them?” Riley says, and Nancy nods. “Yeah, I feel so bad for her. She’s just alone out there,” she says and Riley nods and hugs Nancy closer to them, just grateful that she’s safe and okay.

Also, I had Riley write down a bucket list and they got this very sweet and fitting item. I feel like they are a good parent, and they always try to be there for their kids and just listen. 😊
