MORCANT ELDRITCH NOTT ・ 25 ・ HE & HIM ・ FC JONAH HAUER KING PUREBLOOD ・ NEUTRAL ・ SLYTHERIN ALUMNI  ・ UNSPEAKABLE SPELL INVENTOR ・ ENCHANTED PORTRAIT ARTIST ・ FIRST OF HIS NAME
✧ WAND: Hornbeam, Hebridean Black heartstring, 11 inches, and unyielding. ✧ PATRONUS: Morcant has never allowed himself to be truly happy, therefore he doesnt have memories strong enough to conjure a patronus. ✧ MIRROR OF ERISED: Morcant's deepest desire is to be loved. His reflection would show a happy and loving version of his family, alongside a partner that he loves -- and who's also approved by his family, because they only want to see him happy. ✧ BOGGART: Morcant sees himself entering the hall of the Nott Manor, but it's abandoned and empty. He's the last one of his lineage and he failed to fulfill his duties with making sure there will be a next generation, and that this generation will have something powertful to grow into. ✧ FAMILIAR AND OTHER PETS: The Nott family has a pack of fully grown, well-trained dogs that keep an eye on the manor and the grounds. The breed is Beauceron, known to be intelligent, calm, gentle, and fearless. Adults are typically suspicious of strangers and are excellent natural guard dogs. It's not uncommon to see them navigating the corridors in the middle of the night, as well as the gardens and other corners. For intruders, that's probably a nightmare, but they're great companions for Morcant. His familiar is a black kneazle called Odin, who's trained to accompany him during Unspeakable missions. His magical afinities allow him to see or feel magical aura, which helps majorly the Nott. Odin goes wherever Morcant goes, a very polite and stern familiar.
Tumblr media
Background:
Morcant Nott was born on November 8, 1950, under the sign of Scorpio. He is the son of Geraint Nott, a prominent Death Eater and member of the Wizengamot, with Astrid, a successful historian and member of the Pureblood High Society.
His relationship with his parents is strained, emotionally distant, but bound by duty and tradition. His father, the son of Cantakerous Nott (who wrote the Pureblood Directory), inherited both a temperamental nature and purist ideals.
Considering this, he raised Morcant to uphold the family’s motto: ""Strength lies in legacy." For Geraint, the legacy means supporting rigid ideals of blood supremacy and power. However, Morcant disagrees with his father’s political views and believes that legacy means their extensive magical legacy and rich family traditions. He believes that his father is dragging the Nott family through the mud with his outdated and obsessive dedication to pureblood supremacy.
They often have intense disagreements, with Morcant being very clear on his position: he is the rightful heir of the Nott family, and according to the ancient family code, Geraint cannot disinherit a perfectly capable Nott — with the sole exception of squibhood. Morcant refuses to inherit a family in shambles, one destroyed by Geraint’s laziness and obsession with Voldemort’s influence.
The only reason why he and his father still manage to have any form of a relationship is due to Astrid, a level-headed, intelligent witch who serves as a bridge between them. She holds a deep understanding of both men, and while she aligns more with Geraint’s traditionalism, she’s not afraid to call him out when he’s being impractical or unreasonable.
Morcant has always had her support when it comes to his ambition to change the direction of the family, and she’s been a calming influence, although not without her own reservations. Astrid sees the potential in Morcant but is keenly aware of the danger his rebellion against his father poses.
She believes in the importance of tradition, yet she also sees the flaws in Geraint’s increasingly obsessive nature. To her, Morcant is a reminder of what the Nott family could be — a fresh start, though she fears the cost of his defiance. She is pragmatic and often shields Morcant from her husband’s more intense moments of frustration.
Her approach to the family dynamics has always been about maintaining a careful balance, ensuring that Morcant doesn’t lose sight of his own potential while also mitigating the fallout from Geraint’s uncontrollable temper. Astrid understands the coldness inherent in their family, but she remains emotionally detached, never fully siding with either Geraint’s ideology or Morcant’s ambition.
In many ways, she’s both the glue and the anchor — but Morcant knows, despite her love for him, her loyalty ultimately lies with the family legacy, as it has for generations. The family relationship is cold and distant, but that's what is expected from a pureblood family — emotions are kept aside, they’re not relevant.
Personality:
✅ AMBITIOUS ・ INSIGHTFUL ・ DETERMINED ・ RESOURCEFUL・ CURIOUS ・ CONFIDENT ・ COMMITED ・ INTELLIGENT ・ BALANCED
❌ PRIDEFUL ・ HAS A GOD COMPLEX ・ MANIPULATIVE ・ INDIVIDUALISTIC ・ LOOSE SENSE OF MORALS ・ STUBBORN ・ PETTY
Skills and Talents:
Master in Charms: he received the title recently, his thesis was about the role of binding magic in prophecies. He argued that binding magic isn't used only from one wix to another, but from magic itself to a wix. Therefore, magic bound the wix to a destiny using prophecies. This thesis was so sucessful, that he got an invitation to work in the Hall of Prophecies, as an Unspeakable in the Department of Mysteries.
Divination: he's not a seer by any means, but the Nott family has some information on divinatory practices in the family's grimoire. Although he did study divination during his sixth year, he did not take his studies further. He got in touch with professionals in Divination Arts and actual Seers as a material for his thesis.
Research: as someone both curious and resourceful, Morcant treats everything around him as a big research project. He's a talented researcher and academic, making sure to be meticulous and paying attention to detail.
Quidditch: abysmal, really bad. Thank Merlin that sports was optional, because Morcant would literally flunk due to PE. If he has friends who are quidditch players, I would personally love if that was a running joke.
Potions: he's a decent potioneer, but it's not like he has any special skills. If he needs a common potion or antidote, Morcant gets the job done.
Housekeeping Skills: his dependency on house elfs resulted in Morcant being unable to do house chores. He cleans up after himself decently, but if he had to live alone, things would be tragic. He has no idea where food comes from, let alone how to cook.
Financial Skills: Morcant speaks money fluently. He's a fantastic economist, probably better than his father, and has a literal schedule to manage his investments. Being insightful the way he is, he has a good eye to evaluate what is a good investment or not.
Enchanted Arts: he's a gifted artist, but that's not something known to a lot of people. This is just a hobby for him, a place to vent whenever he needs to escape, so only the closest to him know it. It's not like he tries to hide it, but he's a pretty private person and has no reason to be public about it. One of his favorite things to do is paint his friends, especially because they are at a time of war, nobody knows which day is going to be their last.
Party: Morcant puts his duty above everything else, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know how to party. As someone who knows the right people, he's often seen in secret, underground parties. What happens there, stays there, and people know it. Whenever he goes to those parties, it's like he's a completely different person. His duty is left aside and the most primal need to have fun is let out.
Relationships:
Other Unspeakables: people who work in the Department of Mysteries are called this, and what they do is a secret even for the Minister of Magic himself.
Divination Professionals: contacts within the Divination community who provided material for his thesis.
Academic Circles: fellow scholars and researchers who value his expertise in binding magic and prophecies.
Other Artists: a hidden group of artists who share his passion for enchanted artwork.
Dark Arts Enthusiasts: those fascinated by the darker side of magic and who may be intrigued by his interests in binding magic and prophecy.
Business Owners: he's an investor, so I need people with promising business he can support and invest.
Financial Advisors: partners in his economic ventures or mentors who help manage his investments.
Underground Party Circles: social connections in the secret, more hedonistic side of wizard society.
Ministry of Magic Employee: this person's boss has been trying to aprehend the items in Nott Manor for literal years, since the family's obsession with keeping records managed to keep part of magical history registeres. Now Mr. Nott put the responsibility to deal with the Ministry on his son, Morcant.
Magical Law Experts: considering the amount of trouble Mr. Nott is getting himself into (but also considering the family's history), they probably have a team of trusted solicitors, barristers, etc.
Morcant has a pretty good foresight, so he would be preparing for the future, in case the worst happens.
Curse Breakers: wixen specializing in intricate magical bindings who may share professional interests.
Art Collectors: wealthy individuals who appreciate or commission his private artwork.
Artisan Wandmakers or Enthusiasts: craftspeople intrigued by his philosophical perspective on binding magic.
Collectors of Magical Artifacts: wizards who trade or study the dangerous artifacts he might encounter.

i think my brain tried to give me an anxiety dream (you're taking an essay test on multiple books you haven't read!) but i just did not care. i went up to the teacher at the end of the class and said 'hey i didn't do this test. it wasn't a mistake, i just didn't know any of the answers.' and then i left and did something else.

EVENT : the debriefing of BARBARA MORSE, aka MOCKINGBIRD, in relation to abduction and time spent on skrull planet. SUBJECT : barbara 'bobbi' morse, phd. formerly known as agent nineteen. former shield special service, level seven. former reserve avenger. DEBRIEFING AGENT : agent lindsay wheeler, level seven. DATE : october first, two thousand and fifteen, 09:15 hours. LOCATION : classified.
WHEELER : thank you for joining us, miss morse. i'd like to start by — MORSE : doctor. WHEELER : excuse me? MORSE : my title is doctor.
[ wheeler's hand tightens a bit. bobbi doesn't watch her much, just stares directly over wheeler's shoulder, straight into the security camera on the other side of the room. she's in a fishbowl in here, feels eyes on her from all sides. she has felt this way for three years — it no longer makes her want to crawl out of her skin, but she can't say the feeling is comfortable, by any means. ]
WHEELER : doctor morse. excuse me. i'd like to start by asking if you know why they chose you. MORSE : i'd like to first confirm that barton is not, and will not be privy to this debriefing. WHEELER : that's none of your— MORSE : i wasn't asking, and even if i were, i'm not asking you. i am informing the director that he is either removed, or i walk.
[ wheeler opens her mouth to respond, but then leans into her earpiece. bobbi waits for a long twenty seconds, visibly fighting the urge to leave, and looks into the camera until wheeler nods. ]
WHEELER : barton has been removed from the room, and will not be able to access this debriefing later. why did they pick you? MORSE : i was easy to replace. i have no powers. in the grand scheme of superhero work, i'm an easy trial run. WHEELER : your file spells out a good record with high marks. MORSE : i'm a great spy. that's why i'm still here. but their priority isn't spies. it's superheroes. if they can figure out how to replace the superheroes with powers — what good is a nine millimeter against a skrull thor? WHEELER : understood. let's start at the beginning. MORSE : it was april twelfth, two thousand and twelve. WHEELER : we have you listed as flying into los angeles from new york. MORSE : i was in the restroom in the c terminal at dallas international. i think they were disguised as facilities staff. WHEELER : you think? MORSE : i was knocked out, and woke up in a simulation of the west coast avengers' mansion. i can't tell you anything about the in between. WHEELER : so, bobbi morse leaves new york— MORSE : h'rpra shows up in los angeles, dies two weeks later. WHEELER : . . . h'rpra? MORSE : that was her — it's name. the one that replaced me.
[ bobbi looks down at her hands on the table. they are both her hands and not her hands. ]
WHEELER : what happened when you woke up? MORSE : i was in los angeles, in the mansion. or it was a replica. barton was there, he was making burgers. but you know that feeling where — where something's just not right? everything felt a little too calculated, a little too perfect, and barton — he looked at me like he was happy to see me, but that wasn't right. we'd been arguing so much for months on end, being near each other in any capacity was draining. we were exhausted of each other. i'd told him three three weeks prior that i wanted a divorce, and he was fine ith it. he shouldn't have been happy to see me. WHEELER : and then what happened? MORSE : i stabbed him in the neck with a skewer and ran. broke through a window and found myself in a skrull facility. he was chasing me. he thought it was fun, that i was running. it was a game to him, one that went on for the entire time i was there. WHEELER : did he have a name?
[ bobbi shifts, uncomfortably. the urge to crawl out of her own skin returns. ]
MORSE : i only knew him as clint barton for the first two and a half years. that's all he called himself. that's all anyone called him. he knew what clint meant to me, and he knew — no matter where i was, no matter what i was doing, making clint into the face of the thing trying to destroy me would haunt me. but there was one time — i'd broken into a house. there was a pair sleeping in there, and i killed them both, and i took food and clothes, but he was waiting for me.
he came out of the dark, and he laughed. he called me birdie, and he told me he loved me, and that he knew i'd come back to him eventually because i loved him. and he tried to touch me, because he always tried to touch me, and i just remember — i blacked out, and when i woke up, i was on top of him, and i'd killed him...
[ bobbi swallows, blinking rapidly. ]
MORSE : i'm sorry, what was the question? WHEELER : did he have a name? MORSE : right. there were more there, and they took me. somewhere between that house and their headquarters, they called him s'kova.
[ bobbi picks at a hangnail. wheeler watches her for a long moment. ]
WHEELER : we can pick this up again later, doctor morse. MORSE : no. i'm okay. i want to keep going. can i just get some water? WHEELER : let's take a fifteen minute break.
[ THIS INTERVIEW CONTINUES AT 09:45. ]

THE MOST ANCIENT AND NOBLE HOUSE OF NOTT
"The Notts? They're a reserved bunch, that's for sure. Don't know what they're hiding, being recluse like that. Maybe being antisocial runs in the family. The current Lord Nott, Geraint, he's a hothead just like his father. The son, Morcant, ain't half-bad, but he's just not that important yet, you know?"
click the read more to read the family's lore!
Head of the Family: Geraint Nott
Family Crest/Emblem: the Gordian Knott made out of moving snakes.
Motto: "Strength lies in legacy."
Other Symbols: the Unbreakable Vow, since the most used version was created initially by the Nott family. It also symbolizes loyalty and the binding nature of their magical practices. Ancient runes used in warding and protection, reflecting their deep understanding of arcane magic.
Location (Wizarding Community or Region) and Headquarters: The Nott family resides primarily in Nott Manor, a sprawling estate located in the remote hills of England. The manor is known for its labyrinthine architecture and its countless magical protections, warding the family’s magical knowledge and treasures.
Notable Members:
Aldric Nott: The first known member of the Nott family, Aldric wrote the Nott Code, a foundational text that established many of the family’s core principles regarding secrecy, purity, and mastery of magic. His contributions to early magical theory laid the groundwork for the family’s legacy.
Fenrir Nott: The visionary who constructed Nott Manor, Fenrir was instrumental in the establishment of the family’s headquarters, embedding powerful wards into its very foundations. His craftsmanship in both magic and architecture ensured the family’s protection for generations.
Amaryllis Nott: Through her marriage, Amaryllis played a crucial role in rebuilding the Nott Library after a devastating fire in the 1800s destroyed much of the family’s written history. She meticulously restored not only the physical structure of the library but also its vast collection of rare texts, preserving the family’s knowledge for future generations.
Vivienne Nott: Vivienne consolidated the magical practices and rituals of the Nott family, compiling them into the Grimoire of Nott. This tome remains a sacred and carefully guarded family heirloom, ensuring that their magical heritage is passed down in an organized and accessible manner.
Augustus Nott: A highly influential figure, Augustus Nott briefly held the position of Minister of Magic. His tenure was marked by his strong political influence, though his tenure was overshadowed by the Nott family’s association with more controversial pureblood ideals.
Alaric Nott: Alaric helped popularize the Unbreakable Vow throughout wizarding society, making it a standard tool for securing loyalty and obedience among magical families and factions. His contributions solidified the family’s reputation as master practitioners of binding magic.
Isolde Nott: A noted scholar, Isolde was part of the research team that developed the binding magic within the Statute of Secrecy. Her work is considered one of the cornerstones of modern magical law, ensuring that magical society remains hidden from Muggles.
Cantakerous Nott: In 1930, Cantakerous wrote the controversial Pureblood Directory, a compendium of all known pureblood families, their genealogies, and magical allegiances. His work fueled the rise of pureblood supremacist ideology within the wizarding world.
Years of Existence (or traceable history): The Nott family is believed to trace its origins back to Celtic times, although much of their early documentation was lost in a devastating fire at the Nott Library in the 1800s. Current records confirm their lineage back to the medieval period, spanning over 800 years of existence. Their magical practices are rooted in ancient, often forgotten arts, passed down and guarded through generations.
Level of Tradition and Heritage: The Nott family is deeply committed to the preservation of their magical heritage, viewing their traditions not only as a source of power but as a sacred responsibility. The fire in the 1800s that destroyed much of their early history only strengthened this resolve, making them even more protective of their legacy. Their commitment to maintaining magical purity and lineage ensures that each generation upholds the family’s rich intellectual pursuits and dangerous magical practices.
Reputation in the Wizarding World: The Nott family is seen as an enigmatic and aloof entity within the broader wizarding world. While they are acknowledged for their exceptional magical power and influence, their preference for secrecy, and their occasional alliances with darker forces, leave them viewed with suspicion. Some in the wizarding community see them as an intellectual powerhouse, while others accuse them of being insular and dangerously obsessed with maintaining control over arcane knowledge. In recent decades, following Cantakerous and Geraint's allegiance to Voldemort’s ideology, their association with pureblood supremacy has intensified, shifting their reputation toward one of more overt radicalism.
Core Beliefs and Ideology: The Nott family firmly believes that the purity of their bloodline is the key to preserving their magical power and heritage, a belief that was solidified after the Witch Hunts of the Middle Ages. They uphold that magical knowledge should be guarded above all else, and that mastery over the darkest magics is the ultimate path to power. The family views the preservation of their ancient magical practices as paramount, ensuring that no outsider—Muggle or magical—can challenge their place in history. This ideology stems from a deep-seated fear of persecution and a desire to protect their kind from ever being hunted again.
Family Rules and Codes:
Loyalty to the family comes before all other allegiances.
Secrecy is paramount—family matters and magical practices are kept hidden from outsiders.
The family must never lose their magical heritage. Marriage is seen as a means of strengthening the family line, not for political or financial gain.
The Unbreakable Vow is used to ensure loyalty and obedience, particularly within family disputes.
Traditions and Rituals:
The Oath of Nott, a magical ritual where new family members swear an oath of loyalty, often involving the Unbreakable Vow.
Regular private study of ancient magical texts, particularly those concerning rune magic, warding, and dark arts.
A highly secretive rite of passage for heirs of the family, in which they must demonstrate their mastery of an ancient magical artifact or curse in order to solidify their claim to leadership within the family.
Distinctive Traits: Members of the Nott family tend to have pale skin, dark hair, and piercing eyes. There is often a coldness to their demeanor, and they carry themselves with a certain air of superiority and mystery, reflective of their powerful magical lineage.
Recent History: check Morcant's intro!
