🍬 and ❄️ for the ask game?
Hello, Nonnie! These are some tough ones, so please pardon the delay. I had to think for a bit. I hope you like Tolkien/Lord of the Rings because both answers ended up related to that. If you're unfamiliar with my LOTR/Silmarillion series, you can find links to them on AO3 via the pinned post on my blog.
🍬 ⇢ post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character
Well, this is a bit of a round-about way of somewhat answering your question ... I have thoughts about the Silmarillion as an in-universe document and about prejudices and biases that can slip into an historian's work. (I'm a PhD student who critically analyzes literature as part of her work, so my worlds overlap from time to time.) I also have thoughts about Eol (not an abusive rapist in my verse) and Maeglin (not an all-around creep; see Many Meetings, Ch. 2, and Duty Calls me Back, Ch. 2). And that leads me to some critical analysis of Turgon (not a great king or uncle) and Idril (it's complicated), both of whom would be considered popular, I think.
Not my best job of answering your question, but that's all I have this Friday morning. (It's been a long week.)
*No stones against anyone who doesn't like my character interpretation. There's room for all of us in the Tolkien Fandom. (I have gotten some ridiculous comments in the past on ff.net because of my treatment of Maeglin. *sigh*)
❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?
So my OC Gloredhel in my LOTR series humiliated Khamul in battle at one point during the War of the Last Alliance, as referenced in Ch. 1 of Scouring the Wild. (I also imagine the Witch King having it in for Glorfindel because of his defeat at the Battle of Fornost.) So, I have this vague plot for an AU story called "And Death Was Her Reward: A Tale of the Angmar War and Its Aftermath" where Gloredhel is captured in battle at some point after the Second Siege of Imladris and taken to Carn Dum as a prisoner. Uh, let's just say dark things occur, and she ends up dying there, and no one knows whether she's at peace or whether the Necromancers in service of the Shadow have bound her as a trapped and restless spirit. And then the plot moves to the Halls of Mandos where she reunites with the Sons of Feanor and she slowly regains her sanity and heals among the dead, and eventually there's a happy ending with her family in Valinor. I have ideas for a few scenes apart from the basic plot threads, but this would get much too dark for what I write, so this will never be written. As to who would write it best, ... outofangband or idrilsscribe, maybe??? I don't know.
