It’s enervating being close to someone like Homelander.

At first, it had been deliciously overstimulating receiving the tiniest speck of his energy. What he’s comprised of. Every single experiment performed on him; everything he’s destroyed and killed in the process.

It’s addictive to Eva. She can pour all of her pain into him, and, in return, taste the bottomless pit he is. This shining beacon of macabre hope.

He reminds her constantly that she needs him. While that holds significant weight, she can extract nourishment elsewhere if she chooses to, just as she had before knowing what he could mean to her.

She requires life to sustain her own. Such sustenance can come from plants, insects, animals, people, Supes; anything that has vitality.

This is simply another aspect for him to control, and she understands that. If Homelander can feel his essence masking any and everything else in her their his world, then he’s almost as satiated as she is.

However, sometimes, it drains her more than fills. It’s a conflicting phenomena within her body. Electric currents that repeatedly shock her into rejuvenation, into a power she can hardly describe with words, and then, a heavy affectation that bludgeons itself across something that normally consists of the rarest gold. Parasites and mold and all things ugly masking what shouldn’t have become so tainted.

Homelander’s shadow, as she calls it, is what usually ruins the intense pleasure she drowns in.

She’s uncertain what might have caused him to shift, but that particular darkness now enshrouds him, and she picks up on it straight away. The warmth emanating from him fades, replaced by a cold, eternal sickness.

Eva can absorb energy through her hands. If she concentrates enough, she can use her mind as well. But that requires a lot more than she can often give.

He’s demanding of her abilities, slipping ungloved fingers inside her nightgown. He grips her breast with fervor while his tongue flicks like a serpent’s, whispering the oldest of sins into her burning ear.

He coaxes her own unsheathed palms to take so he can see himself reflected inside her shapes, dips, curves, and colors. So he can become one with something outside of himself.

So he can be more than he’d been promised. Than he’d been conditioned to believe.

It’s not the first time he’s fucked her to experience even a fraction of what and who he is.

It’s lonely being the only one like him. The singular star at the top of the universe’s Christmas tree, separate from cookie-cutter tinsel and baubles.

It’s lonely being someone who is a reflection of all they’ve gorged on and buried within themselves. Homelander digs himself out as much as he can, causing a pain so deep, it’s beyond bones.

Gradually, Eva has become his mirror, and she’s lost herself within it.

hrrr I Saw the TV Glow is still rolling around in the back of my mind. it's hitting me somewhat belatedly that what seemingly starts as mainly an identity story turns out - toward the final act - to also be a love story. two queer kids finding each other (again). the bond they forge (have always had). the feelings that start to grow (were always there) despite the lie they're living. one trying to save the other, and failing. the frail hope at the end that maybe what they had mattered after all, even if they never see each other again. maybe because they knew each other, someday things will be better.

idk. so much of the story feels so lonely. they're awkward with each other at first and they don't really "get" each other and they're absent from each other's lives for long periods and they don't have anyone else. but it's all a lie - they were best friends, they knew each other better than anyone, they are who they are because they knew each other, they were not alone. no matter how bleak the setting is, this fake world can't obscure the truth. they'll never forget each other. it will always have happened, it will always have mattered.

it's so hard to put into words but Owen/Isabel and Maddy/Tara make me so crazy, the way everything in the world works to drive them apart and yet not even losing their memories can destroy the connection between them. and it's not enough to prevent the world from tearing them apart but maybe it's enough to save their lives

It had been a gruelling three months and Belle knew that things were not going to end anytime soon. One of her closest advisors had gotten her out of her home before her cousin had started a coup but still-- life wasn't going to be easy yet. There might still be people on her side but it didn't mean anything if she couldn't get the manpower she needed to fight for her home and so she was here.... ready to beg if she had to. Which may not have helped, she didn't look as polished as she had before. Thankful that their guard had at least allowed her into the room Belle cleared her throat and looked around. "My name is Isabelle Pierce, I am the eldest daughter of Rhys Pierce and the Crown Princess of the Southern Isles." She paused, "Please... I need your help."

You will never convince me that Isabel Lovelace is not disabled post-canon. Think about it.

Of everyone in the crew, she's spent by far the longest time in space. Sure, she's probably been exercising, but that isn't going to fully stop her muscles atrophying. Her bones are going to weaken. Not to mention the fact that she went into the cryo chamber, which we know isn't GREAT for you (I know Eiffel is kind of an outlier but still. Even once is gonna fuck you up at least a little).

Then add to THAT the fact that the body Lovelace has now was created by the dear listeners. Not only are they recreating a body that's already undergone almost a thousand days of the trauma of space; they're doing it with zero existing knowledge of how a human body functions in Earth's gravity. The clones are almost perfect, but there are notable differences in internal organs, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lovelace was put back together with some inconsistencies.

All this to say, I think Lovelace would become a mobility aid user when the crew lands back on Earth. Everyone on the crew would probably end up in physical therapy, but the damage done to her body would be by far the most extensive. Whereas I don't doubt Jacobi, Minkowski, and Eiffel could regain most if not all of their mobility, I think Lovelace would use a wheelchair, and eventually with PT could use crutches or a cane some days. Even if she were to regain muscle function, she would probably have some sort of chronic pain that would necessitate mobility aids!

Isabelle let out a small sigh as she looked over the paperwork she just finished up. It had been quite a busy few weeks. With the holidays coming up she had to make sure everything was set and ready to go. Plans had to be written up, people had to be notified, and shops had to be informed. There was quite a bit to do and little time to do it. But if there was one thing Isabelle was known for it was working under pressure. Especially given the... other pressures this time of year brought. But still, she could handle it! She heard the door open as she turned her head around, a small smile forming on her lips.

"Oh, mayor! It's so nice to see you. I was just finishing up the requests for this year's Harvest Day feast," she explained, a soft blush forming on her face as she squeezed her thighs together.

after sighing for the umpteenth time, isabel finally put her pencil down, clearly defeated. composing was usually her happy place, but after losing several stacks of music meant for the ballet, she was ready to give up. however she felt someone looming over her table, and without even looking up at them, she lifted her pencil once more.
