It was well known that the current Emperor was not exactly the best ruler in the world thanks to his behavior in the movie. Almost all villagers didn't truly like him and had a hard time believing he was a changed man. Malina's father was no exception. He was very protective of his daughters, so when he discovered that Malina fell in love with Kuzco after graduation, he got irritated and constantly gave the royal teenager a cold and serious glare whenever he saw him, indicating he disapproved of Malina's possible relationship with him, thinking she deserved better than a jerk like Kuzco.

It is clear that Malina's the most popular student. However, she's always seen hanging out with guys most of the time.

Malina had a really hard time in her early teenage years to befriend girls as they were jealous of how pretty and smart she was. Whenever she tried to talk to them, she got rejected every single time, until she decided it was best to befriend boys.

She had many fun and memorable moments with them. Especially with Kuzco and Kronk. She adored them, but it was not the same. Malina has always wondered how it would be like to actually bond with a girl and do all the things only female besties would do. And no, the cheerleaders were not exactly people she enjoyed spending time with, either. For some reason.

That was until she met Yatta. The cute but talkative waitress has become her first adorable female best friend.
