It felt a little absurd, the prospect of a refuge of gossamer sheets and stacked satin pillows in the midst of an expensively furnished apartment and he was agonizingly aware that if ran witnessed this, he would never live it down. it was a strange sort of solace, carved out of that luxurious space. where the shafts of afternoon light didn’t quite reach, where the furtively kept collection of old and arduously sourced records sat on the record player, rendering famous songs from times bygone. It was like there was an expectation, keep up with the newest, most modern technology. yeah, he indulged a little but there was an appreciation of this sort of classic, retro assortment that would undoubtedly be lost on ran. what he did not anticipate was the consensus of their leader. for in all things izana felt untouchable. an exalted, commanding presence no matter what setting he was in. so for him to gaze upon this fastidiously assembled and concealed haven of his and not wrinkle his nose in disdain meant that there was far more to izana than met the eye. he hadn’t asked, didn’t pry. the haitani brothers had reigned hell over roppongi for so long that having izana’s blessing and being assimilated into his gang hadn’t felt much like acclimatizing.  “ hell, you’re right.” he could only imagine the mocking tirade he would meet at the hands of ran, who valued the luxurious and sumptuous and would most likely be offended that the refuge encroached on his side of the apartment. there wasn’t much that in his life that didn’t accommodate ran to some degree, so this, immature as it was, was a severance from that. the record player, varnished wood and the needle, hovering in a momentary reprieve. “ I would never live this down.” the soft, diaphanous sheets that cast the inside in a subtle, ambient glow. the pillows that were arranged in a semi-circle with the player in the middle. “ but you won’t tell him.” it’s spoken as if it’s a revelation, as if peeking back out between the parted hangings there’s a fostering of trust that wasn’t built on blood and violence, but rather, a disparate, sincere understanding. “ will you ?” it didn’t require an actual answer and the reply he does earn was earnest and polite in a way that felt so foreign he didn’t know what to do for a moment. grappling with it, he laughs, a genuine, shocked sound before pulling the sheet further back to allow him access. “ atleast someone around here has manners.”  the space wasn’t really intended to cater to guests but with a little rustling of pillows and the draping sheet of the entrance drawn back it felt almost inviting. “ I’ll even let you pick the track.” and he gestures to an immaculate stack of records, their packaging pristine despite their vintage.
