it's no secret that stefan salvatore's biggest weakness is none other than human blood. niklaus mikaelson knew such all too well from previous adventures with the ripper, whomst he'd grown fond of and used for his own agenda, pleasure. this time was no different. stefan was at the original family's mercy, and compelled to drink until he gave in, until his humanity slipped through his fingers altogether and gave place to the monster stefan so desperately tried to hide from the world.

if previously he'd tried to fight the hunger for elena's sake, this time, he had katherine at his side attempting to stop him from losing control of himself. “ go katherine, ” the youngest salvatore announces, “ he'll have me kill you... ” and between the two of them, stefan can say with certainty that he is unable to do so, even after everything, but will that be enough to keep the ripper at bay?

stefan immediately shakes his head, though he cannot hide the smile as he tells her : "i don't dance, i'm a terrible dancer". does that mean he won't go? absolutely not. he will, if that means spending time with elena - and seeing her happy and well.

She has sat herself in his lap and is giving him the 'I'm bored, fix it' look.

stefan knows her well, perhaps too well. when things are quiet, uneventful, katherine is not entirely satisfied. she needs the rush, the thrill and if there was none ongoing, then she'd find a way to create it for their own sake. “ hm, yes? ” pen in hand, stefan looks at her and smiles, “ let me give you a hand, come here— ” cupping her cheeks, the young salvatore brother leans in to press his lips to hers quite gently — but eagerly.

Shes gonna crawl in bed with Stefan because shes tired, and doesn't want to sleep alone.

stefan watches as katherine walks inside the room and makes her way over to the other side of the double bed, laying down without saying a single word.

She's practically bulldozed her way into his lap and has curled up, her head on his shoulder. Fingers lazily reaching up to run through his hair as she murmurs.

"Just gonna rest for a minute..."

arms wrapping loosely around her figure, stefan finds that, although he weren't necessarily tired before, he was quick to give in to rest. perhaps it was katherine's presence, or the fact she knew just how to get him to settle down by running her fingers gently through his hair. in her hands, stefan feels something he hasn't felt in a very long time : human, vulnerable — and he knows it's okay to drop the walls near her. katherine wouldn't hurt him : not intentionally. “ i love you. ” he mumbles before giving in to sleep.

as meredith and bonnie step out of the room, stefan finally allows his gaze to settle on elena. he had recently told her about his nature, and how damon and he came to be the way they were, so when a doctor was suggested — stefan tried to push himself up, and was thankful elena dissuaded the others' idea so casually. no one could know, they were not meant to know or if they were, it just was not the time. “ damon. ” stefan confirmed. yet another quarrel, though this time, damon had made the mistake of bringing elena's name into it, and stefan was not allowing that. clearly, he was left without a choice. damon's diet made him much stronger in comparison to his younger sibling, and so pinning him and even feeding off of him was not a problem.

with the others out of the room, stefan reached for elena's hand, his thumb smoothing the back of her hand gently. “ — i am okay. ” he reassures. just weak. damon did not have it in his heart to murder his brother in cold blood, or so stefan hoped. “ — thank you. for staying. ” and for bringing him the calm, peace of mind and spirit he needed in that very moment.
