life was a willow and it bent right to your wind. head on the pillow, i could feel you sneaking in. as if you were a mythical thing. like you were a trophy or a champion ring. and there was one prize i'd cheat to win. the more that you say, the less i know. wherever you stray, i follow. i'm begging for you to take my hand. wreck my plans, that's my man. you know that my train could take you home. anywhere else is hollow. i'm begging for you to take my hand. wreck my plans, that's my man.

Willow
Before I get completely sucked into a new ship, I should at least post the first chapter of the evermore song fics
The more that you say, the less I know
Wherever you stray, I follow
I'm begging for you to take my hand
Wreck my plans, that's my man
You know that my train could take you home
Anywhere else is hollow
I'm begging for you to take my hand
Wreck my plans, that's my man
Ships in the night passing by despite the crashing waves trying to deter the sailors on their return journey. Sitting on the grass under a large willow tree in the middle of a tiny island just a single hop from the shoreline, is a young boy with glasses watching the movements of the ocean alone in the dead of night. Past the branches and leaves, the sparkling stars shine bright against the pale glow of the midnight moon. For someone who lives to solve cases, a natural born detective from the moment his eyes opened to observe the outside world, he could not even begin to untangle the mystery that is his partner. Though it’s painfully obvious to anyone who interacts with the two, the shrunken teen seems to always miss the look of longing on her face. The sound of the splashing waters in the back of his mind as he pictures her now, the hidden smile reserved just for him, admiring him from afar though they were close in proximity.
She finds him by the shore at the edge of the water looking up at the sky with his head in the clouds, she calls out for his attention, determined to set the record straight. His vast vocabulary does nothing to aid him in understanding Shiho as she strings together mixes of insults and words of caution as she tries to push him out, keeping her heart guarded and convincing him of its poison that would only lead to death. He tries to follow her logic, but she’s just not making any sense. She huffs in frustration, giving up as she decides that the priority is to get him back home before he catches a cold on this harsh winter night.
“Come on Kudo-kun, let’s just get you home. We can talk about this after we take the antidote.”
She waits a beat for him to hear her request, but to her surprise, he responds immediately by reaching to take her hand. She flinches at his icy cold touch, she doesn’t drop it as she pulls them back to land with her heart thumping restlessly the entire way home. Today was meant to be the last day they stayed in their current identities, she had thought he would jump at the chance to return to his old self, but he disappeared after the war to sit in solace under the willow tree they used as their meeting point. She expects him to drop her hand when they reach the professor’s, but he holds on tighter as he takes the lead to walk them inside. She follows him, though instead of heading down to the basement, he heads upstairs to her room.
“Kudo?”
“It’s late, we’ve haven’t slept for days, we’ll figure it out in the morning.”
There was no time for rest during such a pivotal moment in their lives, to finally be free of the ordeal they’ve had to suffer for the last few years. Now that it is over, the adrenaline out of her system, she allows herself to lay next to him one more time before she’s forced to face reality when daylight appears. Her morals have vastly changed since the moment she chose to betray the only life she knew, and though she vows to atone her sins for as long as she may live, she can’t quiet the voice in her head telling her to hold onto the boy who wouldn’t let her give up. Ruin his life and intertwine it with hers forevermore, all’s fair in love and war they say, isn’t that what she believed as well?
When he wakes, his first instinct is to reach out and make sure she’s still there, his eyes open to see that she’s barely slept a wink as she shuts her eyes now pretending to have been dozing the entire time. He takes her hand, rubbing his thumb over her soft skin as he wishes her a good morning though he was tempted to call her out on her lack of rest. Her eyes open unsure of how to proceed, so she does what she does best, speak of the business they still had to complete. The antidote still needs to be taken, they’re not getting any younger, it’s time to go. He agrees, but persuades her to wait until after breakfast, medication shouldn’t be taken on an empty stomach afterall.
He evades her request to return to his old self even as nightfall approaches once more, he takes her around the entire city to enjoy the world one last time through the eyes of a nine year old who shouldn’t have such heavy burdens to carry in their tiny bodies. She follows him every step of the way, how could she refuse when all he asked for was more time with her? Eventually they must return to their adult forms, she squeezes his hand one more time as they walk down the steps to retrieve the pill that would restore everything back to the way it should be. She releases her hold on him as she opens the drawer for the little box containing the solution for their predicament.
“Shiho, you’re still with me right?”
Hearing her real name on his lips sends her heart into a frenzy, this was the first time in a long time anyone’s called her by this name. It feels strange to hear and claim it as her own, but somehow it felt right hearing it from him. The truth of the matter is, no matter how much she tries to fight it, he would always be on her list. She nods and gives her honest reply.
“Always.”
His smile is contagious as it infects her with feelings of joy she never could imagine experiencing before. He doesn’t grab for the answer to his original problem right within his reach, no, he pulls her in close to hold her tight. A promise that this is only the beginning of the rest of their lives, they’ve had each other’s back for this long, would it matter if it lasted a lifetime?
“After this, come with me somewhere, I have something to ask you Shiho.”
Her name a spell echoed on his lips, a temptation too great to deter herself the possibility of hearing it again. Her softening gaze as she entertains the idea of forever is his undoing, he would do anything to keep that smile on her face. Together, they reverse the effects of the toxins to finally look forward to their future.
Under the giant willow tree just off the coast of the beach hidden away from prying eyes. The midnight glow of the moon shines faintly through the clouds drifting by from the gentle push of the wind buying time for the two partners waiting for their lives to change again. A young detective finally back in his body with a scientist who’s turned a new leaf since fate forced them together. No more words are exchanged; they often cause more confusion anyhow, besides, action speaks louder than words. His palms are faced upward asking her to wreck his plan, take his hand and fall deeper in this crazy thing called love. She wasn’t his first choice, but she became the only choice. For her, he’s been engraved in her heart since the very first day. She takes his hand knowing she’s the one who could ever take him home.
