james:  he  learns  the  names  and  interests  of  every  single  person  on  his  team,  memorises  their  birthdays  too  so  that  they  always  celebrate  them  no  matter  what.  no  one  is  left  behind  or  forgotten.  it’s  an  energy  he  forgets  to  bring  into  other  areas  of  his  life,  but  his  teammates  are  important  to  him.

inez:  she  knows  people  whisper  about  her  and  her  unique  style  in  the  halls,  she  simply  does  not  care.  fashion  is  the  way  she  found  to  express  herself  within  a  family  that  only  wished  for  her  to  conform  to  their  views  and  ideals.  it’s  her  own  secret  rebellion.

dorothea:  music  has  been  her  escape  since  she  was  only  a  child,  her  carers  playing  old  records  her  family  used  to  love  as  a  way  to  soothe  her  as  a  baby,  and  she  never  really  broke  the  habit.  when  she  is  stressed,  she  surrounds  herself  with  music  in  any  form,  and  so  her  taste  is  wide  and  eclectic.  

augustine:  the  big  city  is  a  comfort  to  her  because  it  allows  her  to  sink  into  the  feeling  of  being  a  background  character.  hours  have  been  spent  simply  people  watching  in  the  city,  imagining  the  lives  of  the  people  she  sees  -  often  they’re  overexaggerated  and  fantastical,  but  it  dulls  the  ache  of  how  she  knows  she  is  seen  back  in  her  small  town.

maeve:  she  has  had  to  train  herself  not  to  fall  hard  and  fast  for  people.  she  has  a  big  heart,  despite  her  reputation.  every  single  member  of  her  organisation  is  cared  for  as  though  they  were  family  ( because  they  are,  really.  they’re  all  she  has ),  she  remembers  birthdays  and  family  members  names  etc.  she  knows  people  question  whether  it’s  simply  a  show  of  strength,  to  make  it  known  how  much  she  knows  about  people’s  lives,  but  that’s  not  the  truth.  the  truth  is  that  she  care  far  more  then  she  allows  people  to  believe.

estelle:  she  wears  braids  in  the  same  style  as  her  mother  did.  it’s  the  only  thing  she  has  left  to  connect  her  to  the  mother  she  loved  and  cared  for  for  so  long  as  everything  else  was  taken  from  her.  the  styles  are  far  more  elaborate  than  her  own  taste,  but  doing  her  hair  that  way  makes  her  remember  her  mother  as  she  wants  to  remember  her.
