AO3 Wrapped (Writer's Edition)
How many words have you written this year?  246,800
How many works did you publish this year? 13
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?  m.i.a. I loved writing Jason's silly (and smart) goons.
What work of yours has the most hits?  with crimson hands.*
What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?  This is recent, so it's fresh in my mind: fine print. It was like pulling teeth to write it, and I wasn't expecting to get a big response.
Favorite title you used?  beware the patient woman.
If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?  I believe only the above is a song lyric title this year and it's from A Little Wicked by Valerie Broussard.
Pairing you wrote the most for this year?  Tim Drake & Jason Todd, as usual.
Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?  I enjoyed writing Dick & Jason, especially in what's in a name.
What work was the quickest to write?  All of them languish for long periods of time in between writing an outline/first scene, but I think I wrote the rest of fine print in an afternoon.
What work took you the longest to write?  with crimson hands took forever because I had no idea where I was going with it.
How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?  Uhhh, I plead the fifth.
What’s your longest work of the year?  leash.*
What’s your shortest work of the year?  beware the patient woman.
What WIP are you taking into next year with you? Published? None, though I'm thinking about adding an extra chapter to unrefusable offer.
What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag?  Whump.
Your favorite character to write this year?  Surprisingly, Dick Grayson. I don't know what this says about my sibling issues.
The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?  Timmy. My characterization of him is in flux at the moment.
What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?  Probably write more Dick & Jason.
Which work of yours have you reread the most?  with crimson hands, because it took so long to write.
How many kudos in total did you get this year?  59,425
Which work has the most comments?  m.i.a.*
Did you do any collaborative works this year? Sadly, no.
Did you write any gifts this year?  Yup! A birthday gift, and two exchange fics.
Did you receive any gifts this year?  Yup, 4!
What’s your most common category?  Gen.
What do you listen to while writing?  Nothing, unless I'm writing a longfic, those usually get a playlist.
Favorite work you wrote this year? I had a lot of fun with as you wish.
Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?  There is a famous saying—misattributed and mistranslated—that claims if you wait long enough by the river, you will see the corpses of your enemies float by.  They don’t mention that you have to destroy the dam first. I love this bit, and am still sad that no one appears to have caught the implication.
Biggest surprise while writing this year?  That people apparently like my fight scenes, even though to me, it's a fight to get them on the page.
*Ignoring Batcellanea, which is a behemoth that has destroyed my stats permanently.

AO3 Wrapped (Writer's Edition)
How many words have you written this year?  209,165
How many works did you publish this year? 12
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?  side of the angels. I was experimenting with writing tension and it turned out very well.
What work of yours has the most hits?  heat-seeking missile.*
What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?  People liked plus sign more than I expected, though I probably should've been expecting it after the popularity of regrowth. People love to see Slade being an idiot.
Favorite title you used?  I have to say heat-seeking missile, for the pun.
If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?  None this time, though there are a couple of quotes in there.
Pairing you wrote the most for this year?  SlaDick, without a doubt.
Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?  Same.
What work was the quickest to write?  close haul. Couldn't think of any idea for ages, then wrote the whole thing over two days.
What work took you the longest to write?  Probably virtue is truest nobility, the second chapter went over a few different iterations.
How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?  Ahaha, no comment.
What’s your longest work of the year?  virtue is truest nobility.*
What’s your shortest work of the year?  culpability.
What WIP are you taking into next year with you? Gotta write a third chapter to unmarked.
What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag?  Whump and Hurt/Comfort, to absolutely no surprise.
Your favorite character to write this year?  Dickie! I loved whumping him this year.
The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?  Slade. Man refuses to follow any of my outlines.
What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?  I want to add more protective Jason with SlaDick.
Which work of yours have you reread the most?  Probably virtue is truest nobility, because it's a story I can really sink into.
How many kudos in total did you get this year?  27,780
Which work has the most comments?  side of the angels.*
Did you do any collaborative works this year? Alas, no.
Did you write any gifts this year?  One exchange fic!
Did you receive any gifts this year?  Yup, two!
What’s your most common category?  M/M.
What do you listen to while writing?  Nothing.
Favorite work you wrote this year? Same answer, side of the angels.
Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?  “Perhaps you should return to the ball, lest your courtesy be taxed by something with greater inclination to take offense." honestly I loved writing the turns of phrase for this regency au
Biggest surprise while writing this year?  How much y'all love tension-filled scenes. I have to explore more of that.
*Ignoring Evergreen, which has destroyed all the stats in its wake, except for bookmarks.

8. You're hungry and it's imperative you address it at once immediately right that second no time to waste so in lieu of finding actual sustenance you finish the second half of that box of Mike and Ike's you accidentally had for lunch the day before and roll uninterrupted into your second hour researching bumblebee flight patterns so that one line of dialogue for a side-character in your WIP sounds authentic.
The adhd modes of food
1. You ate that burger so fast. You ate that burger so fucking fast and now the whole Red Robin is staring at you god what the fuck
2. You started eating like a normal person, but then you started talking or daydreaming and now the waitress is handing you the check but you’ve still got half a plate of cold fettuccine
3. You were going to go out to eat, but then you saw a video in your YouTube recommendation that drew you towards it like moth to a flame, and now it’s 10 pm and you’ve got an empty bag of tortilla chips in your hand and shame in your heart
4. Mac And Cheese

OKAY HEAR ME OUT! kissing simon before a mission and leaving lipstick stains on his mask. pulling him by his collar and peppering kisses all over even tho he kissed you good and hard before he put his mask on just moments ago. you decide not to tell him and he has no idea why his men are giggling like school girls at him. when he finally cracks, “what’s so bloody funny?” and soap tells him, he closes his eyes in irritation. but he’s not really annoyed. not truly. he loves knowing you purposely didn’t tell him that you left little kiss stains on his mask. loves that you can be a bit of a brat. loves that now, when he gets back, he gets to punish you <3

Production houses: but if the writers stay on strike we can't guarantee the future safety of your favorite shows 🥺🥺😭😭
Viewers who 1, have already lost their favorite shows because they were cancelled in spite of good ratings and good reviews or 2, have stopped watching new content entirely until the entire series has aired and concluded as a result of so many good shows getting cancelled on cliffhangers and thus leaving said viewers unable to gain closure with those characters and with a hollow viewing experience, so they've begun a, watching older shows they know came to a planned conclusion or b, revisiting their old favorites and enjoying the nostalgia or c, reading new books or fanfic instead: YOU ALREADY CAN'T GUARANTEE THE FUTURE OF OUR SHOWS SO GET FUCKING WRECKED AND PAY WRITERS WHAT THEY DESERVE!

"We'll fix it in post" is a phrase from the film industry, but it is inherently funnier when it's spoken by a writer because--tragic--you are also the post-production team.

Stiles: [sobbing bc he can’t save the puppy* who is going to FREEZE in the cold]
Claudia and John, who know this is absolutely NOT a dog: [trying to wrestle the pup out of Stiles’ deceptively strong three-year-old grip]
*Derek, not a puppy but a wolf cub who is admittedly tiny for his age: [head empty no thoughts, enjoying the scent and warmth of Stiles’ scarf]
Talia, watching this all go down behind a tree: [plotting how to save her son for the FIFTH TIME THIS SKI SEASON who she’s beginning to suspect doesn’t want to be saved]

Storyediting Questions to Ask
As You Read the First Draft:
Are there place that surprised you as you read your first draft? - Why do you suppose that is? - Is there material there you'd like to expand?
What are the character really doing in this story? - Might they have issues you haven't explored fully yet?
Look to the places that drag. - These might be scenes where you have avoided dealing with something deeper. - What are the characters really thinking in these places? - What are their passions, frustrations, and desires?
Imagine alternative plotlines. - How might your plot be different if ti headed off on another tangent from various points in the story? - You don't have to follow them, but they might suggest other streams that can flow into the main plot.
Think About Structure:
Does you story play out naturally in three acts?
Is there an immediate disturbance to the Lead's world?
Does the first doorway of no return occur before the one-fifth mark?
Are the stakes being raised sufficiently?
Does the second doorway of no return put the Lead on the path to the climax?
Does the rhythm of the sotyr match your intent? If this is an action novel, does the plot move relentlessly forward? If this is a character-driven novel, do the scenes delve deeply enough?
Are there strongly motivated characters?
Have coincidence been established?
Is something happeing immediately at the beginning? Did you establish a person in a setting with a problem, onfronted with change or threat?
Is the timeline logical?
Is the story too predictable in terms of sequence? Should it be rearranged?
About Your Lead Character:
Is the character memorable? Compelling? Enough to carry a reader all the way through the plot?
A lead character has to jump off the page. Does yours?
Does this character avoid cliches? Is he capable of surprising us?
What's unique about the character?
Is the character's objective strong enough?
How does the character grow over the course of the story?
How does the character demonstrate inner strength?
About Your Opposition:
Is your oppositing character interesting?
Is he fully realized, not just a cardboard cutout?
Is he justified (at least in his own mind) in his actions?
Is he believable?
Is he strong as or stronger than the Lead?
About Your Story's Adhesive Nature:
Is the conflcit between the Lead and opposition crucial for both?
Why can't they just walk away? What holds them together?
About Your Scene:
Are the big scenes big enough? Surprising enough? Can you make them more original, unanticipated, and draw them out for all they are worth?
Is there enough conflict in the scenes?
What is the least memorable scene? Cut it!
What else can be cut in order to move the story relentlessly forward?
Does the climactic scene come too fast (through a writer fatigue)? Can you make it more, write it for all it's worth?
Does we need a new minor subplot to build up a saggin midsection?
About Your Minor Characters:
What is their purpose in the plot?
Are they unique and colorful?
Polishing Questions:
Are you hooking the reader from the beginning?
Are suspenseful scenes drawn out for the ultimate tension?
Can any information be delayed? This creates tension in the reader, always a good thing.
Are there enough surprises?
Are character-reaction scenes deep and interesting?
Read chapter ending for read-on prompts
Are there places you can replace describing how a character feels with actions?
Do I use visual, sensory-laden words?
For a Dialogue Read-Through:
Dialogue is almost always strengthened by cutting words within the lines.
In dialogue, be fair to both sides. Don't give one character all the good lines.
Greate dialogue surprises the reader and creates tension. View it like a game, where the players are trying to outfox each other.
Can you get more conflict into dialogue, even emong allies?
