(please note that I didn't pick expressions, I spun a wheel with all the names and just drew the next expression)

This is every single character that is currently canon in the threadverse. I would yap about art commentary but like. no thanks <3

about that total drama reboot college au i was making with my roomate… we have developments!!
julia is a communications major (they rlly do have it easy, that’s one thing i learned from college) and she plays soccer for the school she goes to. definitely got a hefty scholarship. mean soccer player and she plays dirty. parties with frats on occasion but didn’t join a sorority (she’s above that) (she really isn’t but she thinks she is)
wayne honestly. i want him to go into physical therapy SO BAD. you cant tell me he wouldn’t want to help athletes get back into playing condition. he’s also such a team player that i feel like he would so want to go into PT!! he isn’t that bright but he’s applying himself to help others. didn’t join a frat, but parties with them occasionally. hangs around julia too. plays hockey for school, probably the best player on the team tbh. big scholarship that he can’t lose for hockey
raj is tough because he definitely wants to do something with sports but i could also see i him wanting to help lgbtq youth. his coming out was smoother than expected but he knows it’s not always like that, so he wants to make a difference. i could see him in sports management but also in gender and sexuality studies. i think he goes between them a lot. also plays hockey for school and got a scholarship for athletics
bowie is so sports management, he probably wants to be a coach or smth. we all know how much he wants to win, so i could see him managing a team pretty well. again he didn’t join a frat but he parties with them like he’s in a frat. bowie has the most college experience ever. good for him. he also plays like every sport he can with his schedule. like basketball, track, wrestling, etc
emma is soooo goes in as an education major thinking she has it all together and then she just doesn’t. and she switches to psych after actually ending things with chase because she wants to help people who were in her position before (please emma just be normal i’m begging you)
chase is also a communication major because he wants the easiest degree possible that will let him goof off while he gets it. he IS in a frat and he’s the worst kind of person you can imagine inside a frat house. ripper is also in a frat with him. they’re so annoying and honestly when bowie sees them at parties he avoids them like the PLAUGE.
i still have more for this au because i love college and i love being in college and it’s so fun to imagine my favorite characters having the time of their lives like i am lol

charlotte for the character ask
the literal love of my life let’s gooooooo
First impression: insta love, man, saw that woman get cockblocked by her husband on the phone, try to smoke it out, get scolded, drink from her secret little liquor flask she keeps at work, and it was just pure love from there on out
Impression now: hasn’t changed at all tbh, I think I’ve definitely dived a bit deeper at what I think truly motivates and guides Charlotte in my writing since I first got into Hatchetfield, but she remains one of my top favorite characters in Starkid canon, she’s so damn incredible.
Favorite moment: I don’t think it gets any better than almost hooking up with Ted right next to her zombie husband’s corpse. If Ted hadn’t said the wrong thing they would have just fucked right there on the spot, how craz-amazing would that have been???
Idea for a story: lbr I’ve written plenty of stories about her already, she’s in my top 10 most written characters on AO3, but like I always did mean to write an Emma/Charlotte fic that I never did end up writing. Just would love for those two to hook up.
Unpopular opinion: all the discourse around Charlotte makes me condone and downplay her flaws even MORE, checkmate Charlotte haters, she’s done nothing wrong, it’s morally righteous to cheat on a disgusting evil cop. Charlotte is in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM anywhere near as bad as him. everything bad she’s done in their marriage, he has done too, and a million other worse things.
Favorite relationship: relationship I think would be BEST for her is her and Sylvia who takes no man’s shit and is therefore the polar opposite of Charlotte who hardly fights back when shitty men treat her terribly. but the relationship I enjoy the most is probably still good old CharTed tbh. They’re a trashcan on fire. I can’t stop staring at it.
Favorite headcanon: I think there’s an extremely significant overlap between Charlotte’s home decor taste and Dolores Umbridge’s. plates with kittens and everything. I think her house is absolutely fugly, so kitsch it is.

What’s something you used to believe in that you don’t anymore?  Father Christmas.
What’s your favorite dinosaur?  Stegosaurus.
Do you believe in reincarnation? If so, what would you like to be reincarnated as?  No, but if it existed and I could pick, then probably a nice, pampered house cat lol.
What are three scents that you like?  Fresh coffee, bacon, cut grass.
Do you ever use the grounding technique 54321?  Yes. I learned it in therapy and have found it quite useful in the past.
Where would you relocate if you were forced to leave your place of residence?  Scotland or Australia.
What smells better... fresh baked bread or fresh brewed coffee?  I love both, honestly. They remind me of bakeries and being on holiday.
Have you ever met a president?  I actually went on holiday with the president of Ireland as a kid. Not intentionally, we did like, this group walking holiday and she was there with her husband, oldest daughter and bodyguard lol. She was super nice and very down to earth. I actually stayed in touch with her daughter (Emma) for a while but we lost touch at some point.
Has anyone ever given you a gag gift?  Yeah. I really don't find them funny, tbh.
Do you find smoking unattractive?  Yes. It stinks.
Do you think flirting is cheating?  No. But I guess it depends how you define flirting.
Have you ever liked someone who had a girl/boyfriend?  Yes.
Would you ever take someone back if they cheated on you?  I haven't but nobody can predict the future.
What's a word that starts with the third letter of your first name?  Cookie.
How many wives or husbands do you want?  One is enough, lol.
What's your favorite color gummy bear?  Red.
What's the last movie you saw in the theater?  Les Miserables - the concert.
What color is your iPod?  When I owned an iPod it was blue.
What’s a quality that your sister has that you absolutely can’t stand?  I don't have any sisters.
Have you ever dated a smoker? If not, would you?  Yes, but I wouldn't do it again.
Do you share a middle name with any of your siblings?  I don't have any siblings.
Name one of your psycho exes?  Ha, Chris.
Have you ever been drunk at work?  No. I wouldn't have the balls to do that.
Have you ever taken a pregnancy test?  Yes.
How many bananas have you ever eaten in a row? I can do two if they're mashed or in a dessert or something, but generally one is my limit. I have one on toast with peanut butter pretty much every morning.
Do you have a protective father?  He was when I was growing up, but not so much nowadays.
Have you ever had to choose between two people?  I guess so.
The last thing you remember dreaming about:  Cats. But I don't remember anything more specific than that.
The last place you went:  To do two cat visits. One for Benny and one for Jess.
The last time you held a baby:  Uh, years ago. I don't really spend time with small children or babies.
What’s the scariest video game you’ve ever played?  I can't think of any scary ones.
If you had the chance to slip through a portal, despite being unaware of any of the effects and/or consequences, would you do it?  No. I'm too much of a worrier lol.
When someone copies you, are you more flattered or annoyed?  Depends on what they're copying. It pisses me off when people copy my business-related stuff - especially if it's almost a direct copy. But if someone copies my outfit or breakfast order then it's just whatever, really.
Which is worse: Stale chips or flat soda?  Flat soda.
What health problems do you have?  Sacroiliitis, generalised anxiety, depression.
Have you ever had an anaphylactic reaction to anything?  No, thankfully not.
Do you have sensitive skin?  Yeah, it's pretty sensitive.
What would you name a baby boy?  I have no desire to have a baby of either sex.
What would you name a baby girl?  ...
Do people's rude comments bother you for a long time?  It depends who's saying it and why.
Name three things you find boring.  Fishing, the stock market, Bitcoin.
What excites you?  Animals, sunshine, having days off.
Would you send your kids to Sunday school?  No.
What is the most interesting biography you have read?  The only one that really stands out is John Lennon's.
Do you think your life story would make a good book someday?  Nope.
Do you buy art for your walls?  No.
Would you ever decorate a room with a travel theme?  No.
What insects do you think are pretty?  Ladybirds, butterflies, dragonflies.
Do you love God?  I don't believe in God.
Is there an ice cream flavor that you strongly dislike? Which one?  Pistachio.
Do you own any books with an image of a cat on the front cover?  I'm sure I do.
Does anything you own have an image of a bird on it?  Maybe.
Does anyone you know own a spaniel? How about an Irish setter?  Yeah, spaniels are a dime a dozen around here, lol. I know a couple of Irish setters too. Gorgeous dogs but utterly bonkers.

Give me your thoughts on every tokrev female character (you can skip yasuda if you want....lol)
yeah ok 👍
u sent this ask like a month ago but smth i saw recently was the theory that to “save mikey” takemichi had to “let go of hina”, making the series finale include hinatas death. which... i get it hinatas not a particularly popular character (tbh none of the girls are ✌️😃) but the idea that she has to compete with mikey over who’s “worth saving” is just stupid. regardless, idk what 2 think abt hinata. it’s probably just wonky writing but at times hinata was almost a paragon of forgiveness kindness etc that it was funny how she had people killing and dying for her. and she heard kisaki was the guy doing all this awful shit and was like “oh yeah tettas just silly like that 😝” GIRL??
as much as emma being sunshiny and content w/ everything is nice it would have been interesting to see her perspective on being in between the toman-tenjiku conflict idk. does she shoulder worries about her family that she doesn’t let on? plus sort of having to ‘grow up fast’ being neglected for much of her childhood (why she noted being ‘lonely’ in that one chapter), a lot of ideas that just went unexplored -_-.
takeomi was curbing senju’s potential but so was wakui bro. she had a whole arc and backstory just to be hit in the head by sanzu and forgotten about i’m still mad about this idk what i expected and i know nothings gonna be done about it now but senju was such a solid character... the balance/inbalance between being seen as an ‘invincible’ leader of brahman vs. just also being a kid, and how in both roles her obstacle was the dark impulse (brahman is like the reincarnation of og black dragons to stop mikey’s bastardization of shinichiro’s vision of ‘age of delinquents’, and how senju blamed herself for sanzu’s mutilation by the hands of mikey) she was a lot more involved with mikeys dark impulse thing than a lot of people let on. im so tired of mikey conversations though so honestly ignore that last part
yuzuha is one of my favorite tr characters she never appears but thats ok i’ll just make shit up and live in delusion. sm stuff abt yuzuha is just so crazy! smth smth yuzuha being so similar yet different from taiju about using violence, “i hate it so much i want it to die but i love my family” & “why would god make me kill my siblings which i love so much?”, both of them emulating their parents but failing etc... but also the yuzuha trivia is good fun. she does archery and girls love her swag. she also hates “good looking guys”. i think about that one a lot. just like me fr (wildly different reasons).
ill add yasuda out of spite just bcz u said i had the option not to. she may have had like 4 panels total but her ride or die attitude lives on forever in my heart 😤😤 shoutout yasuda love u y-dog

OUAT Thoughts Pt.60--Episodes 10-13
I have watched through S6E13; spoilers DNI. Also, spoiler warning for anyone further behind than I am.
I had the chance to watch two extra episodes today (even though there were real-life things I probably *should’ve* been doing). It was a pretty good day.
—David and Snow look so stately as monarchs. I love how elaborate their clothes are. And all the jewelry.
—Once again, I’ve been made sad about what the Charmings could’ve had. Their life where they got to raise Emma would’ve been really good for them. But—you know, curse aside—the life they got turned out pretty great.
—I love that Pinocchio is where Emma got her last name from. I honestly never wondered where she got her name, although I probably should have, but this is the coolest possible option.
—Princess Emma was a huge wuss. I can hardly believe there was a version of her that wasn’t tough. But I also kind of enjoyed that in the alternate reality, she was more reliant on her parents. Them having a closer relationship was probably the best part of that entire mess.
—I love that when she was out picking flowers, Emma was singing the song from the original Snow White animated movie.
—Actually, wuss though she may have been, Princess Emma was adorable. I’m in love.
—Actually, Episode 10 reminded me that if I didn’t love Hook to the moon and back, I would totally chill with Emma x Regina. They have the reluctant co-parents to friends thing, and their personalities are a pretty decent match. Also the aesthetic is impeccable.
—I really like what’s happening with Rumple and Belle recently. They’ve gone from fighting and constantly misunderstanding each other and both taking things too far, to being two very broken people who are trying to do the best they can for their wayward son. I think that dynamic works for them now, because they’ve had a lot of marital issues and while Rumple is incredibly troubled, Belle also has some *stuff* and actually showing their brokenness is exactly what they and their relationship need. You know me, I’m a sucker for the raw stuff.
—So lemme get this straight. Gideon lived through twenty-eight years of being raised by the Black Fairy and not didn’t choose to be evil, but now that he’s out of her realm he wants to kill the savior? His logic is absolute bogus, man.
—It’s cool that Pinocchio and Emma were friends in the alternate reality. They’re kinda my BROTP for the show. I want Pinocchio to be like the cool, sage older brother she never had. I also want them to get into trouble together, like racing his motorcycle vs her yellow bug down the main road of town.
—Regina’s feathery red cape was cool.
—I feel bad for Regina. I bet it was hard for her to go back to acting like the Evil Queen after she tried so hard to put all of that behind her.
—Once again, I’m loving the fact that people are going to see Archie. They all need some therapy, tbh, and having the heroes go talk to someone about their problems is the best.
—Rumple (secretly) giving David’s father help finding James without asking him to pay was cool. That’s the kind of extra dimension he suits best.
—Actually, I think Episode 11 was brilliant. The stuff with David’s father I wasn’t a huge fan of only because the Pleasure Island freaks me out, but the emotional connection between David and Hook was beautiful. And seeing David first become seriously unhinged and then come back from the brink was amazing. (Although, I kind of wish he had killed King George, because that guy was a right arse and he would’ve deserve death. As you can see, I would be more of a Rumple than a Hook in the OUAT world.) I think Episode 11 is one of my favorite episodes in a while.
—Lol speaking of Pleasure Island, my mom asked if that was from the original Pinocchio story, and my answer was ‘Idk, but they did this in Kingdom Hearts, so probably.’ If it’s not in the original fairytale, then for sure it must’ve been in the animated Disney version?
—What Rumple did for his sons was such a twisted kind of sacrifice. I really love the trope where the person who’s already gone dark does the dark thing the clean soul needs done to protect them. I explained it terribly just there, but it’s stunning. Of course, it doesn’t work so well when either the two people aren’t connected enough for it to matter, or if the soul we’re supposed to believe is clean has disproven that theory by their past actions (looking at Snape and Draco over here) but for Rumple and his sons? HELL. YES. He’s lived the darkness—heck, with Bae he’d barely even touched it and he already knew he wanted better for his kid. Also, the way Belle responded was perfect. She didn’t get mad about the fact that Rumple had drained the Blue Fairy, or that he had helped Gideon get closer to his goals. She understood why, and she also grasped the peculiar nobility of it.
—Gideon looks like a big ol doofus walking around Storybrooke in that robe.
—How big a deal is this whole ‘Hook-killed-David’s-dad’ thing gonna be? Because now that he and Emma are engaged, I really don’t want anything to derail their happiness.
—Leave it to a pirate to pick out a gorgeous ring.
—I can’t decide whether bad Robin and the Evil Queen getting together is better or worse than what I expected to happen—Zelena and bad Robin getting together. Either way it’s not good.

I saw you reblogged some captain swan gifs! ever since “because, Evan” I’ve been imaging a buddie scene like the CS scene from season 4 when Emma asks what Killian’s happy ending is and he says “don’t you know, Emma? It’s you.” using her first name to make it more intimate and vulnerable.
Imagine it’s after Buck breaks up with Taylor and they’re talking about it and Eddie asks why and buck shrugs and looks away and asks “why did you break up with Ana?” and Eddie says “she wasn’t what I wanted” and Buck says “neither was Taylor” and there’s a long pause and then Buck finally asks “what do you want, then?” and Eddie gives him a meaningful look and says “don’t you know, Evan?” all soft and emotional.
YES OMG!! i kid you not, any sort of parallel between these two would probably make me spontaneously combust, captain swan was my last big otp before buddie! and that scene from s4 is definitely one of my all time favorites!! i know cs was already together then but imagine them using a similar line to bring buck and eddie together finally?? i don't think i could handle it tbh.
i mean the parallels between these two couples are endless! buck and emma are so similar, being the reckless, more passionate ones with abandonment issues and killian and eddie being the ones who try to keep them in check and balance them out, know what it's like to lose love and now have to fight to go after what they want! god, i never even thought of this before you sent this ask tbh, but thinking about it now is making me so emotional. 😭
eddie gives him a meaningful look and says “don’t you know, evan?” all soft and emotional. maybe he doesn't quite add the 'it's you' bit, he pauses and he's terrified of taking it further, even though he knows it must be showing all over his face, but he can't quite bring himself to say it yet, because it seals the deal, leaves no room for doubt. but, buck sees it, anyway, because he knows him, like the back of his hand and he's overcome with emotion, at the feeling of being wanted, so much so that he can't even speak. he just sways into eddie's space and presses their lips together, his actions speaking louder than his words ever could, as they always have, between the two of them.
...now i need to see this in fic form, lmao

So....Cherik Drqgon age.
Erik as Blackwall who somehow ended up as the inquistor with opening portals and shit. (Blackwall aka my favorite and toughest bitch)
Logan as the Iron bull
Emma....Vivienne obviously because she's THAT bitch.
Raven as Sera (I hate Raven but people hate Sera for some reason. SHE'S UNDERRATED AS FUCK! HAVE YOU SEEN THE BOWS SUE GETS TO SHOOT! THERE IS A BOW THAT WILL LITERALLY BLOW UP THE ENEMY! AND HER SPECIAL MOVE CUTS! THAT MOVE HAS SAVED MY ASS SO MANY TIMES LIKE YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE!)
If not Angel can be Sera. Let Raven be Iliyana.
Moria as Cassandra. (She gets a Lotta damage but that bitch ain't giving up.)
Charles....um Solas? I don't know. Pale smart bastard. You don't suspect him at first but once you found out the truth. You can't help but wonder. WHEN WAS THIS WHEN THE ENEMY SENT A DRAGON TO KILL US! YOU TELL ME THAT YOU WEREN'T AS WEAK AS YOU APPEARED TO BE! It's the kind of rage that you never really get over.
I don't know who would be Dorian. Janos?
Selene obviously Morragan.
Apocalypse as corypheus
Varric.....Gambit?
Cole....Peter. except you know the dead part. No dead quicksilver on this shit. I'm not Joss Whedon.
I only know Dragon age Inquisition. I don't know who else the rest would be.
Ohhhh I like this idea!! A fusion of two of my favorite things? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP
Tbh I think that in DA!verse it would make sense if mutants were mages, because they’re two opressed groups fighting for their rights, and you have Circle of Magi (controlled by the Templars) and apostate mages (which could be paralleled to Erik’s Brotherhood).
Blackwall as Erik though... lmao they do both have some sort of lumberjack aesthetic, don’t they? :D Also the fact that Blackwall tried to hide his real identity and was actually on a run!
I don’t mind Raven, and I think she could’ve been Leliana maybe? They’re both talented spies, after all!
Viviene as Emma is a perfect fit! Also LOVE Cassandra as Moira, especially since they both have kinda started their corresponding teams!
I’M STILL CACKLING BECAUSE I’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THE PARALLELS BETWEEN SOLAS AND CHARLES JUST THE OTHER DAY (and let’s get real, there’s at least one VERY PROMINENT parallel, ie THEM EGG). But also yeah, could’ve worked! A wise and patient mentor at first sight who turns out to be someone insanely powerful... not sure how the whole Dread Wolf thing fits Charles, but it could’ve been an interesting take on dark!Charles!
Love Corypheus as Apocalypse! Both undead/undying bastards with a god complex :DD
Iron Bull as Logan sent me cackling, makes sense too!! Although Bull seems more gentle than Logan sometimes XD Still, a huge scary looking hunk who cares for his people... sounds about right! Also iirc Logan used to have a team of his own (or at least lead the X-men at some point?) in other verses (there was an animated series, I’m pretty sure, and probably some comic runs?), so also adds up!
Cole seems a little too melancholic to be Peter for me... but I can’t think of any other characters for either of them :D
But really, speaking of Dragon Age games, I think you would’ve enjoyed DA2, I wouldn’t go into details about other characters if you don’t know them, but there you have Fenris - a runaway slave whose master experimented on him and made him into a terrifying weapon (and who kills his former master in the end), which sounds familiar huh? ;D - and then there’s Anders - a soft-spoken mage who runs a free clinic for people but who is also possessed by a spirit of Justice (that later transforms into Vengeance). Both have Erik vibes (esp with the stunt that Anders pulls at the end when he blows up the Chantry and essentially starts a war), although I think with the rivalry between the two they’d make a good Erik/Charles parallel!

thank you @sinterblackwell for tagging me in this bookish ask game! these questions were really interesting !
how many books are too many books in a series ? i'm honestly pretty tolerant for long book series, i love seeing a world develop over lots of books - started the bone season series recently which has 4 books so far and is slated to have seven, it's going to be a bitch waiting but at the same time there is something so thrilling about having this sort of returning event year after year (i grew up with the HP books so that really marked me i guess). that said i think that only really works when the authors have solid plans because when an author gets stuck and you have to wait ten years for the next one that really sucks (lol GoT). and i think beyond 7-8 it's definitely getting excessive.
how do you feel about cliffhangers ? hmmm...depends if they're well done or if they feel like shock value. i think every book needs to feel like a cohesive unit and some cliffhangers happen too soon, without enough resolution - that said, i love it when books open up a new (but related) mystery in the last few lines
hardback or paperback ? i used to buy paperbacks only but over time those really get damaged super easily (i've moved a lot) and it feels like a waste of space and paper. so now i'm doing this thing where i mostly buy ebooks and whenever i really like a book and want it in my permanent library - or when a new book is coming out that i know i am going to love - i buy hardbacks ; at least when the covers are aesthetically satisfying. i just really love the idea of starting to build my 'forever library'
least favorite book ? it's tied between Manon Lescaut, which i was forced to read in high school and is the most irritating story ever about an old timey dude falling in 'love' with a prostitute and blaming her for it and everything else that goes wrong in his life until she dies and he can 'be free' ; and The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi which made me so uncomfortable i had to stop like one third of the way in and is a torture p*rn, fetishistic, racist mess about a Japanese cyborg girl who gets exploited and abused by everyone she meets. It's possible that these two books were trying to make a point about how the things they're depicting were bad, but there is a level of misogyny and violence that feels too illustrative, exploitative and graphic to ever serve that purpose properly in my mind.
love triangles, yes or no ? i'm not against a love triangle when it's well done, i.e it has a real impact on the plot and is tied into the themes of the story. For example, I think the triangle in the Hunger Games is a good one, because Peeta represents (to simplify it massively) peace whereas Gale represents violence, the escalation of war and never ending conflict, so Katniss choosing between them is not just about moody teenager feelings. That said, the trope has definitely been overused in YA ; I really hate love triangles when it's just an excuse to stall the plot and throw in artificial delays because the characters are being wishy-washy and indecisive and non-communicative assholes. also i wish more of them got solved by polyamory or something.
the most recent book you just couldn't finish ? last year, If I loved you less by Tamsen Parker, a modern wlw retelling of Emma which I expected to love but the overly casual-quirky writing and the excessively immature MC just irritated the hell out of me
a book you're currently reading ? rereading The Raven Cycle right now, I'm on the Raven King and I'll reread Call Down the Hawk after, I want to get to Mister Impossible
last book you recommended to someone ? Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed
oldest book you've read ? hmmmmmm not sure but the thing that comes to mind rn is the Tao Te Ching by Laozi, 6th century BC
newest book you've read ? ehhh probably Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell
favorite author ? lol i absolutely cannot answer that question no matter what i say it feels like a betrayal
buying books or borrowing books ? buying, i'm a shitty borrower tbh because i like having books sit in my TBR pile and just randomly decide to read them out of the blue
a book you dislike that everyone else seems to love ? the night circus by erin morgenstern - it's so popular everywhere and I wasn't even able to finish it ; it's the epitome of style over substance for me ; sure the descriptions are beautiful but they feel so empty and void of any meaning or character development ; it drags for chapters and chapters and then boom ! instalove, which is when i dropped it because that's one of the things i hate the most. i checked the rest of the plot on wikipedia to be sure and yeah it annoyed me too so.
bookmarks or dog ears ? bookmarks. i only ever dog ear my study books
a book you can always reread ? letters to a young poet by rainer maria rilke
can you read while listening to music ? nooo it's way too much input when i get into a book it's Intense i can't deal with anything else
one pov or multiple povs ? i absolutely love a well done multiple POVs when the switching allows you to compare the perspective of different characters and how it shapes the narrative and how they think of each other and how it slowly all merges together ! Especially when it's dumbasses in love pining over each other !!! chef's kiss !!!
do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days ? depends, i binge when i have the time and it's gripping but not always and that's fine
who do you tag ? @beeexx @all-the-wr0ng-places @smblmn @peoniesandsmiles @bremmommye @dorkdumplings @petitspaceling @hellswolfie @iamshannonmcfarland if you want to no pressure !!!

Ep 38 is another good one! We are on a roll. I have some thoughts on why and whether I could still end up whining in future episodes again... but for now let’s just enjoy the moment.
We are finally catching up with Yamato (and Jou) who has the sort of episode you’d expect from the brooding lone wolf of the group. I wish they’d pushed it just a liiiittle further than they did and I’ll tell you why below. Still, the point is we learned some things we needed to about Yamato, and with some higher than usual stakes (for a side plot) than usual.
Pic of the day, though, is all about his highness, our lord and savior, JOOOOOOOOO.
Tumblr media
You will bow before him, peasant!
More below.
Like I said, the stakes are a bit high this week:
Tumblr media
Right off the bat, Gabumon’s been beaten, captured, and tied to a cross...
Tumblr media
... where Mephismon (this guy) is apparently planning to kill him in ritual sacrifice.
In other words, this episode is: Yamato and Gabumon Go To Digimon Hell
:P
I mean... Mephismon even looks scary. Very Satanic. Gives me chill, lol. Probably not as scary for kids who didn’t grow up being hit over the head with a Bible every day by evangelicals, though. Sometimes I look back on my childhood and just think “wtf?”
That being said, Mephismon is the sort of lackey you’d expect Millenniumon to have, much more in the vein of Devimon or DarkKnightmon. Aka, pretty darn scary. I was so frustrated for so long by all the small fry Digimon Taichi “struggled” with by himself for no apparent reason - they felt like filler episodes, tbh - filler for a show that has no reason to have filler!
And I STILL do NOT understand why we got WarGreymon’s evolution over a totally forgettable nobody Digimon, but these recent episodes with Koushirou, Mimi, and Yamato have all been serious crises where the characters put everything on the line, and yet nobody evolves. It’s not that I think they HAD to evolve here - I can see they’re leading up to it and since that guarantees more focus on them in the future, I’m totally down for that. What I don’t understand is why Taichi DIDN’T get that. Why play WarGreymon so early? The episode itself did involve Taichi challenging himself, but it all felt so setup. And so unmemorable that it’s just hard to care.
Anyway... I’m ranting about things that didn’t happen in this episode. Rant over xD Back to Yamato.
Tumblr media
His desperate play to rescue Gabumon by himself goes as well as you’d expect.
Yamato: I’m too cool for this shit
Tumblr media
He is chased by those gas mask-wearing Digimon whose name I forget. But they are conveniently blown back by the gush of a timely geyser. Geyser, you say? That means hot springs must be nearby. If hot springs are nearby...
Tumblr media
Jou: Now I know what it feels like to be Team Rocket!
Jou falls out of the sky and right into Yamato’s path. Dressed in nothig but a towel, he looks to Yamato like a scrawny, nerdy, guardian angel.
Tumblr media
Yamato: You’ve gotta help me, Clarence. Fly me to the top of the mountain.
Jou: I can’t, I haven’t got my wings.
Yamato: Yeah, you’re about what I’d expect my guardian angel to be like...
So, Jou immediately starts to chatter at Yamato, and it looked to me like Yamato might be getting annoyed. If this were 99 Adventure, he’d had snapped and said something like, “Can’t you see Gabumon’s gone? Aren’t you even going to ask about that or do you only think about yourself?”
But this is 2020 Yamato, and 2020 Digimon Adventure, where the kids are all Very Nice and don’t have much in the way of flaws. That’s my number one complaint about this show so far. So Yamato just waits for the moment where Jou needs to take a breath to break and ask for his help rescuing Gabumon.
(Gomamon reminds Jou to get dressed first, thankfully.)
Tumblr media
Up on the mountain peak, Mephismon sacrifices the Data of poor blue!Elecmon to the fragment of Millenniumon he is guarding.
Tumblr media
At first I was like, why do Yamato and Jou know about these crystals?? But then they’re like, we heard from Taichi over the digivice. Ah, of course. I kind of miss the old digivices that pre-date smartphones :P
Tumblr media
Yamato explains how they ended up in this situation, and I REALLY like this. They came across Mephismon sacrificing innocent Digimon on their journey to reunite with the rest of the team, and it was Gabumon who insisted they had to stay and save them. Gabumon!
So this is not the first time we’ve seen the Digimon partners take initiative this season. The lack of personal flaws and personality clashes are my least favorite part of the reboot, but the increased agency of the Digimon themselves is probably my favorite. When DanDevimon swallowed Taichi, it was Agumon’s pain that caused his warp evolution. Not saying Taichi had nothing to do with it, but the focus was certainly way more on how losing his partner sent Agumon over the edge. Now we’ve got Yamato actually arguing with Yamato because he feels so passionate about rescuing the captured Digimon.
Yamato’s not heartless, of course - he just prioritizes the people closest to him first. And I have no idea if we’ll see much more of this sort of willpower from Gabumon - it’s partly there for convenience, since no one else is around. (Last time, it was Sora who wanted to help others at their own risk and Yamato clashed with her over the same thing.) The other reason is, this is the episode where we find out how Yamato and Gabumon became friends - which is especially important for the guy who gets the Crest of Friendship - so they needed something a bit more meaty than “the proof of our friendship is I follow you wherever you go and do whatever you want.”
But I love it because it really makes them feel like partners.
Tumblr media
Of course, Yamato can’t say no in the end, so he and Gabumon go to save the Digimon. But they’re overwhelmed.
Tumblr media
The vision of his partner’s bony ass shrinking into the distance as bullets fly overhead will haunt his dreams always ;^;
Tumblr media
Yamato: Once a psychic read my palm and said I have an unusually short life line. I guess she was right. But she also said I’d marry Emma Stone and have eight children.
Jou: are you sure she wasn’t just playing a game of MASH?
Tumblr media
While Yamato and Jou plan their strategy, we switch back to the rest of the team, where the girls are having tea time.
I know I complain about this every time but WHO DA HECK decided Sora and Mimi should wear the same color scheme look what you did now they both blend into the couch
Tumblr media
The boys talk a bit of shop, then Takeru reveals that he and Yamato don’t live together because their parents fight and don’t get to see each other because they both work so much. He doesn’t really come out and say “they’re divorced” but he says he and his brother are separated. Even though Yamato calls Takeru to talk a lot, Takeru still feels sad that there are things he misses since they live so far apart.
Tumblr media
Taichi assures Takeru that Yamato will be fine, pointing out that Yamato had already been adventuring in the digital world for an unknown amount of time before Taichi’s group ever got there. Wow, haven’t referenced that in literally ages. I’m glad these things are finally relevant again. Also like how it seems to confirm Taichi still kinda holds special admiration for Yamato. That seemed like the route they were going way back when Yamato joined the group in episode 8, but then it wasn’t touched on till now.
Tumblr media
Then we get the long-awaited Yamato & Gabumon origin story! Yamato appears to have arrived in the digital world in a similar way that Taichi did. He looks the same, so probably it wasn’t a huge time difference (in human world time anyway).
Tumblr media
At first, Yamato’s like, “leave me alone. I don’t have any interest in the digital world. Where’s the exit?” And Tsunomon says, “Fine, then I will just protect you whether you want me to or not.”
Tumblr media
Yamato: Reeeeeally wishing Ikkakumon could fly, lol
Tumblr media
Yamato recalls how, despite his chilly behavior, Tsunomon still jumped to his rescue.
Tumblr media
(The rescue involved Ikkakumon shooting torpedoes up the mountainside so Yamato can grab them and climb to the top. What I don’t get is why this didn’t draw Mephismon’s attention :P I guess he figured his gas mask lackeys would handle it but uh.)
Tumblr media
Past!Yamato rescues Tsunomon, who is so touched that he is able to evolve. Yamato makes an attempt to remain aloof...
Tumblr media
... but in the end he turns into Taichi :P
So that’s the origin story! It’s more or less what I figured. Kind of surprised we didn’t get any scenes of them in the digital world proper, since I got the impression Yamato was familiar with that world as well as this plane that seems to be a sort of interface between worlds. But maybe not, who knows.
What they try to do here is set up that Yamato is an aloof type who tries to avoid relationships. But he snaps out of it and warms up to people so fast that it’s hard to really appreciate it. Plus he doesn’t really do much to push them away other than say “leave me alone.” Eh.
Tumblr media
Lol it’s funny because he’s strapped to the cross but because his leg fur hangs like that, from behind it looks like he’s just standing there....
Tumblr media
Mephismon starts to sacrifice Gabumon!
Tumblr media
A power blast of dark energy starts to pulse from the mountain, sending everyone to their knees. Jou thinks fast and hides inside his bag. Nylon is good at blocking out satanic chanting after all.
Tumblr media
His eyes fall on... his textbooks! Social studies, chemistry, the periodic table, Japanese history memorization textbook... these useless books! Could they actually be useful?!?!?!
no.
no they couldn’t
Tumblr media
Yamato: Ahh! That’s it, I have got to start lifting more.
Tumblr media
But wait - Jou gets an idea. There’s something that calms him when he’s stressed and that’s... chanting passages from his rote memorization technique books x’D So he sits down and... it’s basically a throw back to the Bakemon episode in 99. I believe he’s chanting things from the Japanese history book, but as I’ve never been a Japanese kid, I’d have to do more research than I want to to figure out for sure.
Tumblr media
He then switches to chanting the numerals of pi! He has pi memorized! x’D I don’t know why that should surprise me. He soon begins to glow with the Zen energy of a cram school trance.
Tumblr media
Jou: 3.14159265359... 3.14159265359...
Tumblr media
Gas mask Digimon: 3.14159265359.... 3.14159265359...
These bright ripples emanate from Jou, counteracting the evil ripples coming from Mephismon’s mountain. It soon pulls the gas mask Digimon into the trance as well.
Tumblr media
Ikkakumon: ... I have no effing idea what is going in this episode on anymore
Tumblr media
Jou comes out of the trance to discover the gas mask Digimon ARE NOW HIS OBEDIENT SUBJECTS. WHAT.
(see I told you you’d bow)
seriously what just happened! XD is this Jou’s mutant power
or is this something all Japanese children who survive juku can do as a result of spending so much time memorizing shit
Tumblr media
Ikkakumon then is able to shoot a bunch better pathway of torpedoes for Yamato to climb and MEPHISMON STILL DOESN’T NOTICE
Tumblr media
Yamato finally makes it to the peak!
Tumblr media
Mephismon’s like, “nice try, but what were you planning to do now? You left your friend at the bottom of the mountain and I’ve got your partner. And I doubt you’ve memorized all the numerals of pi.”
Tumblr media
He kindly creates an evil burning vortex to increased the hellishness of the landscape. He understands that a Yamato episode needs the proper ambience.
Tumblr media
Gabumon’s about to be sacrificed to Digi-Satan lmao
Tumblr media
Yamato steps into the pentagram and get shocked. But he presses on despite the difficulty (and the hellfire), thinking about how much his partner means to him.
Tumblr media
He drops to his knees while Gabumon begs him to save himself.
Yamato: “You’re my... friend!”
Tumblr media
The power of friendship destroys the pentragram and also frees Gabumon from the cross.
Tumblr media
The Crest of Friendship glows...
Tumblr media
Gabumon is strengthened and becomes... WereGarurumon.
:P
Yeah... seemed like a good time for MetalGarurumon but whatever.
Tumblr media
After a cool but brief fight, Mephismon is defeated.
Tumblr media
He appears frozen? Can Gabumon freeze stuff? Whatev. Anyway he’s frozen and then disintegrates.
Tumblr media
Gabumon is tired but happy. Their bond is now even stronger.
Tumblr media
Cute Takeru on Pegasusmon flies down to his brother at last.
Tumblr media
And the others wave up to them from Komondomon. Aw. So finally the team is back together! ;__; Please let it last this time, please please please....
Kay so, overall... I liked this episode. The whole “You’re my friend!” bit would have been stronger if we’d seen more of Yamato resisting that though. I don’t really know why but the reboot seems to pull its punches a lot. I really wish they’d let the kids be mean to each other like 99 Adventure did sometimes. Being mean doesn’t mean you’re a bad person and a terrible influence on children watching your show. It just means you are human and your viewers can learn from watching your mistakes and seeing your growth. Try to understand that, showrunners :P
A missed opportunity in this episode: Yamato and Jou. I was excited that they were gonna be together because they often clashed in 99. And in the reboot as well, it was established that Yamato is annoyed by Jou, although he’s much more polite and hadn’t said anything about it till now (just stayed away from wherever Jou was until he fell asleep lol). So I thought, in this ep, we’d see them butt heads and learn to work together, something like that. But aside from the very first moment where Yamato might look a teensy bit annoyed, they just get alone fine. Idk. Not interesting.
In the end, though, the ep was clearly meant to be Yamato only and Jou was just there as a matter of convenience so the whole group would be together at the end. Since the team is finally reunited, I hope we do start to see all of them interacting in different ways that show their personalities more. Might not be the same as 99 (or, I should say definitely won’t be, at this point), but just something more than “look how well we all get along.”
Next week...
Tumblr media
Looks to be a light and funny episode. The Burgermon were one of my fav bits of Frontier. But I’m a little nervous about this being a Jou epiosde. It’s his turn, I know, but everyone else got something meaningful. Even Mimi - though there was lots of humor in her episode, she was also major league cool the entire time. Maybe that will be the case with Jou here, but I’m not sure because 2020 Jou is a little different - more scatterbrained, more open, more talkative, less serious, less likely to act sullen... he’s quite different, now that I think about it. So I’m actually having difficulty imagining what his personal test will be in this episode. Guess we’ll have to wait and find out. Maybe it won’t even be that kind of episode anyway.
Also, just a guess, but next week is ep 39. So ep 40 maybe will be the start of something big again. It would be good timing: the team’s together and everyone’s had a chance recently for an episode to themselves...
See y’all next week! As usual didn’t check for typos :P

Hello, I hope I'm not bothering you, but do you have any good "enemies to lovers" recs, may they be books or movies?
I neeeever am bothered by people asking for recommendations.  Those are my favorite asks because I am nothing if not in love with my own opinions, lol
Books
Obviously, The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn, the best Bridgerton book, because I’ve been blogging about it lol.  If you haven’t read it, it’s basically “rake tries to seduce the beauty of the ton, beauty’s older sister cockblocks him, he realizes that He Is Into It”
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne is a classic.  Very light and fluffy contemporary, two people who’ve always hated each other begin competing for the same job and fall in love.
Kate Quinn’s Mistress of Rome series is a saga and the initial big ship of the first book (which you do have to read lol) is not enemies to lovers.  However, the NEXT ship which dominates the last two books of the series (which is four books long, and tbh... I recommend the second book but it’s a prequel and can be skipped technically) is SOOOOOOO GOOD.  It’s really “childhood friends to young lovers to SEVERE ENEMIES still secretly in love” and it’s literally epic lol.  Essentially, the series is set in Ancient Rome and Sabina (very bitchy Roman noblewoman) and Vix (child of a former gladiator, soldier) are friends who I think lose their virginities to each other?  And are in love as kids.  But then she fucks him over and marries the emperor.  Who he actually begins to loyally serve!  But he haaaates Sabina because she.... constantly backstabs him lol.  But he also looooves Sabina and gets off on everything she does.  And she wants him so badly.  And it is delicious.  And I live for it.
Both of the Evie Dunmore books I’ve read, Bringing Down the Duke and especially A Rogue of One’s Own are very enemies to lovers.  In Bringing Down the Duke it’s a bluestocking versus a duke who for political reasons is her enemy.  In A Rogue of One’s Own it’s another bluestocking versus a rake who has known her basically all their lives.  They have to begin working together and fall in looove.
Sarah MacLean LIVES for this trope lol.  Her first true enemies to lovers was Twelve Scandals to Start to Win An Earl’s Heart, in which the heroine is a scandalous young woman and the hero is a duke determined to avoid scandal--and he rebuffed her before the book began, so they hate each other.  But he also has a massive boner around her, of course.
My favorite MacLean book, A Rogue By Another Name is another “childhood friends turn enemies to lovers”.  The leads, Penelope and Bourne (last name lol) were best friends as kid and he basically fell off after life set in.  Her family now has hold of his ancestral lands, and Bourne essentially blackmails Penelope into marrying him so that he can get those lands, after which she DESPISES him even though they had..... extremely great sex lol.  It’s SUPER GOOD, and it involves borderline voyeurism, which is great.
Then No Good Duke Goes Unpunished is very enemies to lovers.  The heroine was set to become the hero’s stepmother--then he woke up covered in blood with her missing. He then finds out, after years of being despised by society as a presumed murderer, that she is very much alive with a fake identity lol.  It’s WILD.
The Rogue Not Taken is an enemies to lovers roadtrip romance.  The heroine thinks the hero is a horrid rake who purposefully ruins marriages.  He thinks she’s a stuck up brat.  They end up journeying together and he eats her out in a moving carriage.
Theeen there’s Daring and the Duke.  The hero literally thought the heroine was dead (MacLean loves this) and is OBSESSED with her, but she hates him because the man who raised them both basically pitted them against each other after their days of being childhood sweethearts.  It’s very dark and delicious, and there are blow jobs!  Blow jobs don’t happen enough in romances, especially historical romances.  More BJs!  They are fun!
If you’re interested in a dark and BONKERS romance, Desperate Measures by Katee Robert is a retelling of Disney’s Aladdin about a modern Jafar and Jasmine getting together after he takes over her father’s criminal empire.  It’s definitely extremely explicit and a bit fucked up.  The book comes with content warnings; the first sex scene is dubcon.  (Like you’re reading from her perspective and she WANTS IT but she says no.)
Beach Read by Emily Henry is a cute contemporary in which the hero is a literary author and the heroine is a romance novelist.  They find themselves in neighboring beach houses and basically challenge each other to write in the other person’s genre.  Very light enemies to lovers.
A Heart of Blood and Ashes is a fantasy romance by Milla Vane!  Essentially, the hero’s parents were killed by the heroine’s father and he’s out to kill her father and overtake his throne.  Luckily, she’s on board.  But he needs to marry her in order to accomplish his goals.  They do not trust each other whatsoever and torment one another a lot.  For context, within the first fifty pages she gives him a handjob while her hand is covered in her own brother’s blood (and yes, he did kill her brother).  It’s great.
The Worst Best Man is about a wedding planner who suddenly finds herself needing to work with her ex-fiance’s brother... who she holds responsible for her fiance leaving her at the altar.  Very fun and sexy contemporary.
The entire Four Horsemen series by Laura Thalassa.  In each book, the heroine falls in love with a literal embodiment of one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, who is here to bring the end of the world.  VERY heavy enemies to lovers.  Kinda dark at times?  Kinda fucked up at times?  I love it a lot?  It begins with Pestilence; War and Famine have already been released, but Death has not.
From Lukov with Love by Marina Zapata.  It’s a figure skating romance; a down on her luck skater pairs up with a male skater who is extremely successful, and who she’s known for years and hated.  Verrrrry slow burn, but fun.
Movies
The Proposal, of course, starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.  You’ve probably seen this, but the setup is that she’s his evil boss, he’s her assistant, and she’s about to lose her visa so she bribes him into marrying her so that she can get citizenship.  But ruh-roh, they have to go to Alaska for his family reunion and he’s also got a great body and is like, an Alaskan Rockefeller?
Obviously, Clueless which is enemies to lovers by way of former stepsiblings, and also by way of the only valid retelling of Emma.  Emma itself is not enemies to lovers, really, but Clueless amps that aspect up a bit.
If you want a super tragic version, warning lol--House of Flying Daggers.  It’s a wuxia movie, so melodramatic to the max.  She’s a blind daughter of the leader of a vigilante group, he’s a soldier who’s gone undercover to follow her to their stronghold.  Many reveals and one of my favorite dramatic love stories ensues.
Princess Diaries 2, duh.  Baby Chris Pine?  Anne Hathaway?  PLEASE BITCH.
365 DNI.  If you haven’t watched yet, watch it and thank me later.  The greatest cinematic contribution of the last decade.
Down with Love.  It’s a delightful take on like, 50s/60s sex comedies in which the heroine writes a book that convinces women to ignore love and men, which makes the hero look bad and makes it difficult for him to get laid.  So he sets out to basically.....  wear a different persona?  And seduce her?  It is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen, and I adore it.  Renee Zellweger and Ewan Macgregor have great chemistry in it too.
The Thomas Crown Affair, starring extremely hot Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo.  She’s an insurance investigator, he’s a billionaire who basically is suspected of stealing priceless works of art because he’s bored.  She investigates him and immediately begins fucking him.  Has a scene where she dances with him while wearing a completely transparent dress.  Then they fuck everywhere in his house.  I have never wanted to be between two people more.
The Painted Veil.  A socialite marries a dorky scientist for convenience, then cheats on him.  He finds out and basically forces her to go to China with him, where he is fighting the cholera epidemic, as an extremely long and petty murder suicide attempt.  But they get to know each other!  And the ice begins to melt!  Warning: tragic but lovely.
Casino Royale YES I SAID THAT.  The James Bond reboot movie that explains why he’s such a whore!!!  HE WAS BROKEN!!!  Basically James Bond is not like... a learned man... in this movie.  So he’s a cocky bastard and the Bond girl is impossibly sexy Eva Green as Vesper, who’s the “money man” on his mission.  They begin as bickering assholes and then fall in love.  But also!  Tragedy!
The animated Anastasia movie is one of the finest enemies to lovers movies of any time, I will defend this forever
Anyway....  Hope this gives you some ideas!  Lol

Back on my superhero movie adventures, I have at last watched the older Spider-Man movies (all five of them) and also - finally watched the first Venom!
Thoughts about them all under the cut:
The Sam Raimi trilogy: probably the most well constructed of the bunch of modern live action Spider-Mans, and this includes the mess that the third one is. They are good, but stil, they are dated movies and it shows in several ways. My biggest complains overall is the lack of female characers and that the ones who are there are written in shallow ways. Mary Jane is the biggest victim - most of the times it feels that she’s mostly there to be kidnapped and scream, and to be disputed as a prize between the male characters. Also, the lack of communication between Mary Jane and Peter is annoying, not endearing, and makes them loose power as a couple you would root for.
Individually speaking, the first movie is a good Superhero origin film - not subtle, full of cliches but it works, I feel like it does have a heart, you know? It tries, and I can forgive some of its faults because I feel it does try to say something.
The second one is the best of all, the one with most heart and emotion. Peter's struggles and frustration as his life falls apart around him while he's trying to be good can be very relatable, and the subway scene when he's saved by all the people who swear to not reveal his identity is one of the best superhero scenes in anything ever. Also absolutely loved his scenes with May, this Aunt May is probably my favorite of the three Mays of the live action movies.
The third one is a bit of a mess, because I think it tries to cram up so much stuff in a film. There’s three villains here! Sandman, Harry/New Goblin and Venom, and it’s just too much for a single movie, methinks. Still, it’s not all bad - this is the film who does the most for Mary Jane. She’s a lot more relatable and complex in this movie - her sadness and anger that her career took a turn for the worst, that she tries to save face for Peter but is lowkey jealous that he’s doing much better than him, her frustration that he doesn’t have time for her, her anger that he just kiss another woman right in front of her salad and for thinking nothing is wrong with that makes her look like an actual person and not just a woman put in a pedestal/an untouchable object of desire for Peter. I think the last scene of them embracing after Harry’s death is probably their sweetest moment in the entire trilogy.
The Marc Webb movies: these two movies are hit and miss for me. I think Andrew Garfield was pretty great as Peter, but the plot drags and seems to take too long to start in the first movie. In the second one, the plot mess seems even bigger, tho I do like both the antagonists in this one - Harry/Goblin and Electro are both pretty good characters.
I do wish they had introduced Harry in the first film tho - I think it would have make his and Peter's relationship deeper, and the mutual betrayal in the second movie would weight more.
Peter and Gwen have a LOT of chemistry on these films. Emma Stone is a great actress overall, and Gwen is written in a much more sympathetic way than poor Mary Jane in the Raimi trilogy ever was, and she works very well with this Peter. Her death in the second movie is an absolute heartbreaking moment, could see it coming from miles away but it's still very powerful and very, very sad.
Anyways. Peter B. Parker from Spiderverse remains the best Peter Parker, but these movies have a lot of good stuff on them.
Venom: Yooo Venom! Man, this movie is a LOT of fun. It's not perfect by any means, pacing is off at the beginning, montage feels weird at turns but tbh none of this matters because it's very entertaining, it's fun to watch. This is mostly Tom Hardy, of course. His Eddie is an incredible likeble character despite his faults, and so is Venom, who is so, so much more likeable than I thought he would be.
Everyone knows this about Venom but truly, this movie works mostly because the relationship between Eddie and Venom is really very compelling, their interactions truly the highlights of the movie, the best moments. I can't wait to see Venom 2 tbh, hopefully I'll be able to do it soon.

Hi, so I’m going to watch spn s7 for the first time soon, and don’t really want to watch the whole Cas-less stretch from 7x03 to 7x16, but also don’t want to miss anything particularly good/important, so wondered if you had any recommendations as to what episodes to watch / not watch? No worries if not, just you seemed like a good person to ask (given your tags on your s13 post). Thanks!!
Hey no worries! I'm honored to be trusted with this haha. I've definitely come to appreciate S7 more over the years and think there's still value in it. Usually in a first watch I like watching everything because there will always be small character moments. But there's also a lot of fillers in the Gamble era that have little to no impact on the story later on that you can just read an episode summary for. Here's my suggestions:
7x03: CAN skip but I enjoy it. Good Sam flashback episode with some more lore on John's A+ Parenting, does set-up some dumb conflict thing between the brothers that happens this season. You'll get told what happened later on though and besides that, the characters involved never get mentioned again.
7x04: Watch! There's a heartbreaking cameo and it's a good "let's explore your psyche" episode for Dean. Also, Sam tries to be a lawboy and it's hilarious.
7x05: Definitely skip. Unless you're a diehard Buffy stan and want to see two alum reunite. Basically they hunt a married witch couple whose arguing and secret affairs are supposed to be a metaphor for how Dean isn't communicating things and is holding information from Sam. Dean does have a nightmare about Cas tho (thankfully you can just watch it on YouTube.)
7x06: WATCH. The best episode of the Leviathan plot that'll explain their situation for the rest of the season (and provides some important Leviathan lore). Super fun moments, and Bobby and Jody are there too! Also thee Robbie Thompson's first episode.
7x07: Skip. Basically, after the events of 7x06 the brothers reunite for a psychic and necromancer case and decide to keep working together.
7x08: Could skip tbh, but it's Garth's first appearance (who is beloved by all) and overall a wacky but fun episode. So...watch?
7x09: Watch. It's another big Leviathan/Main Plot episode (even if a less fun one), Dean brings up Cas while drunk, and there's something big that happens at the end.
7x10: DEFINITELY WATCH. The only episode guaranteed to make me cry.
7x11: Can skip. But there's a fun teen hunter named Krissy Chambers who was basically the OG Claire Novak and who shows up again in S8. But unfortunately both of her episodes are fillers.
7x12: Could either way on this one, watch if you have time but don't worry if you need to skip. Fun time travel episode with Eliot Ness (if you're a Deangirl definitely worth it to see Dean being a nerd in an old 40s get-up.) Also a good Sam and Jody episode that sets her up as their new best friend. At the very least watch my favorite dick joke of the season.
7x13: I honestly say skip, tho I know some people will say "no, how could you!!!" Basically, Dean sleeps with a monster lady and accidentally becomes a baby daddy to a monster daughter for an episode. They're never brought up again and I personally hate the ep, but a lot like it.. You could always go back and watch it if you ever see meta/fanfic about Emma and get curious!
7x14: Definitely skip but it's hilarious. Sam and Dean fight some evil, murderous clowns. Like actual clowns.
7x15: I say Watch. Biased because I like this episode, but it does set-up a Sam plot that'll be especially relevant for Cas's return (and it makes demons fun and homoerotic again.)
7x16: Skip. Some old thrift items turn out to be cursed, including evil ballet shoes. Definitely read the plot summary of this one for a couple small things, but otherwise all you need to know is that Sam's still not doing so great.
And Cas comes back in 7x17, of course. Honestly every episode after that in S7 is worth watching for plot reasons or Cas, Charlie, Garth, Kevin, Meg, Crowley, etc. 7x19 might be the only one where you can probably read a plot summary and call it a day.
That's my thoughts, if anyone agrees/disagrees definitely feel free to chime in! 👇

EIGHT: A NEW MUSICAL
Book by Emma Score and Lyrics by Taylor Swift Divorced, Beheaded, Died Broken up with x8 and then immediately forgotten about
Eight Tritons. Eight Taylor Swift Albums. One Ageless Love Interest. Coming to Broadway November 2020!
**None of this is canon, it’s just for the lulz. (Well, some of the Tritons did date Tony but I’m not basing it off of that and tbh their song choice is barely canon I went based off of vibes and also album release order)**
Lights up on the stage. It is set up like a concert, the lighting neon, with all eight Tritons standing in a line in age order from left to right. Their costumes are based on the era in which they were in upper sixth form (from Attina rocking a 2009-inspired outfit and Ariel in her 2020 best.) They are frozen in time, and slowly the music begins.
ATTINA: ONCE UPON A TIME ANDRINA: A FEW MISTAKES AGO ARISTA: I WAS IN YOUR SIGHTS ADELLA: YOU GOT ME ALONE ALL: YOU FOUND ME, YOU FOUND ME, YOU FOUND ME ME ME ME ME MELODY: I GUESS YOU DIDN’T CARE AQUATA: AND I GUESS I LIKED THAT  ALANA: AND WHEN I FELL HARD ARIEL: YOU TOOK A STEP BACK (etc the song continues they all have their individual parts but they sing the chorus together of I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE)
AQUATA explains the concept of the show: by some Swynlake magic, they have all realized that, during their final year of Swynlake Secondary, they all dated TONY RYDINGER. And now they are going to have a competition: who had their heart broken the worst by Swynlake Secondary’s infamous immortal badboy?
ATTINA reflects on her idyllic summer with Tony, hanging out on the beach together and, for a few brief moments, escaping the intense pressure she felt all the time.
ATTINA: WHEN YOU THINK TIM MCGRAW I HOPE YOU THINK OF MY FAVORITE SONG THE ONE WE DANCED TO ALL NIGHT LONG THE MOON LIKE A SPOTLIGHT ON THE LAKE...
She sings TIM MCGRAW and decides that it’s pure nostalgia, really, and maybe she could take herself out of the running. She’s happy with her life now.
ANDRINA appears and makes a snarky comment, instigating a brief bickering match between the two. ARISTA breaks it up and suggests that ANDRINA sing her song. ANDRINA said that she didn’t subscribe to the idea of this contest and she didn’t understand why one guy was getting all this attention, but fine, she would sing her song.
ANDRINA: YOU’RE ON THE PHONE WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND SHE’S UPSET...
What follows is an extremely sarcastic rendition of YOU BELONG WITH ME remixed with upbeat electronic club tones and featuring a showstopping dance break. ANDRINA remarks that if she can’t prove that Tony broke her heart, she can prove that she had the best performance.
ADELLA remarks that ANDRINA did steal the show, but it’s not over yet. She launches into a sincere and heart-wrenching rendition of...
ADELLA: NEVER THOUGHT WE’D HAVE OUR LAST KISS I NEVER IMAGINED WE’D END LIKE THIS YOUR NAME, FOREVER THE NAME ON MY LIPS...
She sings LAST KISS and explains how she fell for TONY hard, and she still wonders why he dumped her and whether he really loved her. There is a solemn silence.
ARISTA agrees that she fell for TONY too, but now, she can look back on the memories fondly. She mentions that red is her favorite color (and her tail color, of course) is...
ARISTA: LOSING HIM WAS BLUE LIKE I’VE NEVER KNOWN MISSING HIM WAS DARK GRAY ALL ALONE REGRETTING HIM WAS LIKE TRYING TO KNOW SOMEBODY I NEVER MET BUT LOVING HIM WAS RED
*~*~*~*~*~*~INTERMISSION~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The curtain rises, and now it’s MELODY’S turn to bring the energy up. She reminisces on TONY’S classic vibe, and reaches the realization that it was probably because he was immortal. But it also meant he was a bit old-fashioned, which she liked for a bit, but eventually... it went out of STYLE.
MELODY: YOU’VE GOT THAT JAMES DEAN  DAYDREAM LOOK IN YOUR EYE AND I’VE GOT THAT RED-LIPPED CLASSIC THING THAT YOU LIKE...
She passes the microphone to AQUATA, expecting her to sing a cruel breakup song. But instead AQUATA admits that she had feelings for TONY-- a lot of feelings. So many that she hated how smitten she was with him, and she’s still embarrassed about it.
AQUATA
YOU’RE SO COOL, IT MAKES ME HATE YOU SO MUCH... YOU’RE SO GORGEOUS, I CAN’T SAY ANYTHING TO YOUR FACE ‘CAUSE LOOK AT YOUR FACE AND I’M SO FURIOUS  AT YOU FOR MAKING ME FEEL THIS WAY BUT WHAT CAN I SAY? YOU’RE GORGEOUS
Surprised at herself, AQUATA passes the mic off as quickly as possible to ALANA, who reveals that she actually does not remember TONY at all. Somehow, the curse skipped her.
ALANA: I FORGOT THAT YOU EXISTED IT ISN’T LOVE, IT ISN’T HATE  IT’S JUST INDIFFERENCE... SO YEAH
The rest of the Tritons stare at ALANA in confusion-- why didn’t she mention this before? But now there is just one competitor left, Ariel, who also thinks this contest is dumb, and instead takes the moment to address her song to some current relationship drama she’s going through...
ARIEL: BETTY I WON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT WHY YOU SWITCHED YOUR HOMEROOM BUT I THINK IT’S ‘CAUSE OF ME...
Which is such an iconic song that everyone forgets about the contest altogether. They decide to forget all about TONY once again and instead sing a song dedicated to each other...
ARIEL: I’M ONLY UP WHEN YOU’RE NOT DOWN
ALANA: DON’T WANNA FLY
AQUATA: IF YOU’RE STILL ON THE GROUND
MELODY: IT’S LIKE NO MATTER WHAT I DO...
ANDRINA: WELL, YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY
ADELLA: HALF THE TIME
ARISTA: THE OTHER HALF I’M ONLY TRYING
ATTINA: TO LET YOU KNOW THAT WHAT I FEEL IS TRUE
ALL: AND I’M ONLY ME WHEN I’M WITH YOU!!
Dancing, confetti cannon, party time, everyone in the audience gets up and joins the party. Epic guitar solo. THE END.

so one of my favorite parts of Emma is the bickering between her and knightly especially the fight after she does(n’t) persuade Harriet to refuse mr Martin and since you’ve seen it, I’m curious how their arguing/bickering is in the new movie?
I’m trying to think. Yes I think the bickering was good.
I noticed the characters more so than the bickering. Emma is insufferable in the beginning, really bratty tbh, and entitled, but this is the first time I’ve really seen Harriet’s effect upon her. She really has changed for the better by the end of the movie, and it isn’t even Knightly who gets her there. I think it’s Emma herself who sees what she’s done to Harriet and how unfair it is, and not just Harriet, either. This Emma learns a lot about the responsibility of her privileged place. She CARES. She’s not just manipulating people because it’s a game for her and shows her power over them, which is what it was to start.
Knightly was, I found, much more accessible. And he seemed to be QUITE aware that he was in love with Emma from the beginning. She was, however, clueless. She’d essentially given up the possibility of marriage because she couldn’t leave her father, so she plays games with others.
But the JEALOUSY was a palpable thing in this version. Knightly clearly hated Frank Churchill because Emma admired him from afar. And Emma was not only jealous of Jane Fairfax because she was compared to her, but also because Knightly admired Jane.
They bickered quite a bit over Frank and Jane. And Miss Bates of course, although to her credit, Emma QUITE knew what she’d done before he scolded her.
We got quite a bit of singing. Emma sang and played. Knightly sang and played the violin a duet with (OMG) Jane Fairfax. Leading to some of the jealousy mentioned above.
Sexual tension was probably the most heightened in this version compared to the others, as far as I can recall. Knightly is damn near SALIVATING over Emma while she believes she’ll never marry so doesn’t even THINK about it until perfect JANE comes into the picture and then oh, yeah. She doesn’t like it. Then when she realizes Harriet is in love with Knightly oh she can’t deal with that.
The dance scene, where Knightly dances with Emma after she begins to realize she has feelings for him is HIGHLY charged.
Yo. When neither of them was wearing gloves I was like, OH IT’S ON. And it was, most definitely.
Did I say he was salivating? He was PANTING. I am not even exaggerating. Fall on the floor unable to deal PANTING.
I think we get more from Knightly’s pov and perhaps that’s why he’s more accessible. He’s not the “perfect” gentleman. He’s not so high above her in sense, because we can see how he’s longing for her and putting aside his life, his whole house shut up, because, imo, he’s waiting for Emma to notice him.
Emma is very young, and Knightly is older than her, but we can see in this version that he’s not all that old himself.
I really liked the character development in this one. Emma is always in danger of getting on my nerves, but this Emma got over herself quicker. She was less managing and more just a kid who was enthused and sometimes hurt by the things going on around her.
The movie as a whole was kind of jumpy. The transitions weren’t smooth, but I think they kind of meant it that way. It was light and funny, bordering on physical comedy sometimes. Keep an eye on the servants. The footmen in particular are hysterical.

What are some of your favorite lines you've written for your fics? (Also I'm sorry things aren't going well right now. Sending love 💜)
right its time to go diggin im using this as an excuse to reread everything because i cant think of any lines off the top of my head even though i know theres a shitton
premptively putting a cut here because this will probably end up long as shit and you know what fuck yea to that because fuck yea to being proud of what youve made
SO
hallelujah, first thing i posted:
If those bastards want to make her part of their shitty musical, then she’s going to make it difficult. Or at least inconvenient.
The hive is not inconvenienced in the slightest.’
- idk if this is as funny as i think it is but i find it funny
"Nobody dies with dignity, Emma. There's no honour in the thing, however you dress it up."
- wrote that to sound creepy and now i cant decide whether i actually think its true
But he’s holding her like she’s his salvation, as if it’s his life hanging in the balance.
- salvation is just a good word tbh
It’s hopeless, but she refuses to be killed by a game of fucking ‘got your nose’.
purgatory, intended to be a shitpost but now i unironically think of it as the best thing ive ever written
After a few years (or maybe seconds, it’s not clear) / it takes a moment (or maybe it doesn’t, who knows?) / An undocumentable amount of time passes. /  They might have slipped into an uneasy silence lasting millenia - or milliseconds - if it wasn’t for the jolly tune that suddenly fills the air. / for minutes or years or millenia or maybe even eons / After a brief, indescribably long nap / But the incomprehensible amount of time seems somehow shorter this time.
- 2 in one of fucking with the concept of time and hinting at an unreliable narrator, hell yea. its about the weird atmosphere, baybeeeee
“Does one day of trying the hardest we could outweigh years of not trying at all?” Emma wonders aloud. Paul squeezes her hand.
“I damn hope so.”
He doesn’t ask if she believes in Hell.
- even without context i like this line but in context it really helped set the sombre tone so i could do a full 180 at the end of the chapter
Emma wonders whether they’ve been sent to musical hell for failing to stop the musical apocalypse
- love the implication that there is a hell dedicated to annoying people via musical theatre
“You said- you told her you’d never be in a musical?”
“Yes.”
“And then you died performing a musical number?”
“I- yeah, I did.”
“Brilliant! Now, that is stupid!”
- probably my best characterisation of death, sounds like something that would be said in a stupid deaths bit, i can hear it in his voice
teachers pet
“It’s only blatant if people know about it. So in actual fact this is secret favouritism.”
- hidgens gives absolutely 0 shits about the ethics of the situation good for him
“And if that is kidnapping, well, consider yourself kidnapped.”
- once again ethics simply do not matter
“Oh, where is your sense of adventure? Are you not curious about the results of washing baked beans?”
- this line hants me when im trying to make stew or just have some fucking beans on toast because I am curious about the results of washing baked beans
“Well, if it isn’t, and we both die, then I’ll be quite disappointed. We did spend all evening on this, after all.”
- priorities
finishing what we started, actually originally a scrapped ending idea for igtlt that i liked too much to abandon entirely
“How many bullets?” He eventually asks.
“Enough.”
- they just know what theyve got to do
Only thing left to say is a big ol’ fuck you to… God, everyone else in the fucking world. Oh, and God. Fuck you God, you prick.
- gotta love them tto refs
wildfire, almost 20,000 words of angst that im going to read through because fuck it why not
She doesn't understand the order, at least not yet; a dog doesn't understand the first time she's called to heel. But that can change. Though, from the bared teeth of this dog, the trader guesses it may take a while.
- this is actually something i really like doing in narration, calling a character something in dialogue or comparison and then directly calling them it in the narration
He understands; she doesn't want to show weakness to someone who could exploit her, doesn't want to show gratitude to someone she hates. But the tribeswoman is tired and scared and hurt, and it's obvious. She's broken, at least for today.
The loneliness, however, refuses to wane. It settles in her chest like a physical need, a craving for closeness.
- got inspiration for this description by thinking about hugging my partner while i was stuck in lockdown
"You can say that again," the older woman mutters, shaking her head. "God-fuckin'-damnit, Lauren, why d'you never think about the implications?"
Jemilla turns to her with a questioning look. "Who's Lauren?"
"She-" Molag begins to explain, then pauses. She thinks for a moment, then shakes her head. "I don't even know."
- crossover jokes hell yea
He’s tolerable, she’s decided, at least relatively so, but not trustworthy. If she could truly trust him then he wouldn’t be involved in all this. If she could trust him, she wouldn’t know him.
The thinly-veiled threat in his grin
She stares up at the man, shaking, whimpering, pleading. Wordlessly begging for him to stop.
- gotta love reaching the breaking point
She probably looks insane, bruised and bloody and laughing quietly to herself in a cage. She doesn’t care. They can think she’s insane, just as long as they don’t think they broke her.
laughing as they rediscover half-forgotten days spent as children let loose in a world that seemed so huge and yet so small at the same time
“You know, kids like Zazzalil - scrawny little things born as Autumn died - they’re not supposed to see Spring.”
- i will see any character without a detailed fleshed-out backstory and say ‘is anyone going to make headcannons about that’ and then not wait for an answer
Maybe the pain will shock her out of her head.
im going to live twice
It feels more like a bag of broken crockery than a human.
- this was the only time ive ever had to describe something really gory and decided to make it as uncomfy as possible
she notices with a concerning level of non-concern
Paul Matthews is gone, boy. And if I catch you using a dead man’s name again, well.
- its about the ✨forced disconnect✨
It stares at him, and for a moment he sees the young man that Benny used to be, silently pleading for the agent to tell him he'll be okay.
"In my defence, that was the Colonel's idea.” The man raises his hands in surrender. “I wanted to call you Lauren. I was outvoted.”
- i will take literally any chance to make a 4th wall joke and that is a threat
“I’ll see what can be done,” he assures it, knowing full well that nothing will be.
- xander doesnt flat out abuse emma in the way mcnamara and shaffer do but hes still cruel in subtler ways
“No chance of being hurt?”
Xander nods. “No chance of you being hurt.”
-  ✨foreshadowing ✨
If only he was free, free to just get up and go find Blue and tell her - actually tell her, out loud, with words - that she’s going to be okay. If only he could say that and have it be the truth.
She holds onto that piano. Right now, as she kneels crying into the tabletop, it's all she has.
- ‘sir thats my emotional support near-complete stranger’
smoke and feathers
Irony can be a cruel, twisted bitch.
- probably the best opener ive written
There’s a sort of pathetic irony in the fact that she slipped on a stone while wading across a shallow stream and broke her neck.
The stars move across the sky, and she still doesn’t know why.
- sounds poetic and all while also being a fuck you to the chorn twist because i hate it
It seems like every time she looks away the moon goes from waxing to waning and back again, time marching onwards in one unending night, swallowing one unending forest.
Even with her limited view of the person’s face, Zazzalil can see the softness in their expression. She’s hit with a pang of longing for Jemilla.
They share those tender looks that make Zazzalil long for home.
The kind of silence only shared between people who can appreciate the simplicity of each other’s presence
aaand thats pretty much all of em. i know when you said ‘some’ you probably meant less than this but i will give a consice answer to a question when pigs fly. i was going to do the double e au too but its past 1 am now and im going to bed. thanks for this ask because whether intentionally or not you just made me read 48,860 words of fic and thats a damn good distraction when things are getting a bit shitty :)
