i don't drive because i'm scared of the clowns on the road here but as an american who has looked into the process of getting a license for work purposes, as an adult over 18 you can get a driver's license in most states by passing a written test regarding traffic laws and then a road test, with no requirement for any sort of classes beyond that so long as you know traffic laws. you can basically walk in and leave with a license the same day, no education on defensive driving or theory or anything.

that is genuinely horrifying

#how are us american licenses accepted in other countries then???? since they dont really say anything about knowledge or skills???#like for my german license i had to do 24 total hours of theory lessons and take a half hour test where you can only have minimal mistakes #and the rules around the mistakes are super strict as well like you cant have two mistakes in the same category etc etc etc #and on top of that 30 hours of driving with a teacher AND of those there was like. 12? hours? for special driving like.#night driving + country driving + autobahn #like you dont get your license unless you can prove both in praxis and in theory that you CAN be trusted with a vehicle #(whether people then choose to abide by the rules or not is of course... :/ yah)#asks #txt
