re-read your predator/prey au today and i just realized drew was drunk all night in that fic. meanwhile irl, he said that he had problems with alcohol so he stopped drinking and went sober for years. thinking back again it just makes me think of drew's situation in the au as more tragic because from the start of that fic he'd lost control and went back to his worst vices without anyone noticing!!!! is this intentional? i feel crazy

and yes it does not escape me that punk might have a type for big broken boys, preferably in a kilt. punk thinks he can fix them *haunts them in their sleep until they puke blood from the stress*

Yes, it was absolutely intentional! I even alluded to his issues with drink later on in the fic;

"Drew had spiralled before. Found solace in the worst places for his pain, too naive and scared to form the words he needed to say 'help'. He'd tried. Punk had been around back then, a veteran, a leader, a champion. And had done nothing!"

In the beginning of the fic, when Drew's in the car having drugged and kidnapped Punk, he's having a moral crisis about his plan ("What the fuck have you done? What! The FUCK! Have you done?"), but by the time Punk wakes up, he's necking a bottle of whisky and all the doubt has gone ("The mad look in those blue eyes, bleary from drink... This was no joke!"). This is the start of Drew's obsession taking over. His addiction to Punk consuming him more than his vices ever did, and it only spirals further and further into madness and self-destruction as the violence unfolds.

It's also very telling that Drew splashed out for a decent Scottish whisky - a 12 year single malt Macallan (which is a lovely btw) - as he knows full well he has passed the point of no return. Even if he survives the night, he can never be the man he once was. Like a man on death row, enjoying his final meal.

It is sad, though, isn't it? That so few have noticed that little detail, like you said? (I'm so happy you did though!)

(I also get the impression he enjoys a drink now and again these days - he certainly mentions pints with Sheamus a lot for a man who's supposed to be entirely sober. I could be wrong though. Maybe it's an alcohol-free pint he likes - Drew fans, feel free to correct me!)
