hide away and find your peace of mind
set at the end of SGA 1x11 The Eye, right after the team regains control of the city. it is my professional opinion (no seriously i'm an emt lol) that Elizabeth and Rodney should've gotten hypothermia 😤
"Everyone okay?" John asks, looking around the room as Teyla more or less carries Beckett in. He keeps glancing back at Elizabeth, just to convince himself she's really not dead. Now, she's leaning heavily on the console, her eyes closed. "Elizabeth?"
She blinks, taking a moment to focus on him. "I'm alright, Major. I think I should just get out of this jacket, it's a little too warm in here."
John blinks at her. The large, empty, mostly-metal city running on minimal power isn't what he would call warm. But when he notices that her jacket is still dripping rainwater as she sheds it, some old first aid training lights up in his head.
"Hey," he says suddenly, "getting out of that wet jacket is probably a good idea, but I don't think you're as hot as you feel-- do you want my coat? It's dry... drier."
Elizabeth takes it when he hands it to her, frowning as she slips her arms into the too-big sleeves. John turns to Rodney and Dr. Beckett.
"Rodney, how long were you out in the storm?"
"I've lost track of time," Rodney mutters, and though he doesn't seem as foggy as Elizabeth, John suspects the shivering he'd written off as a shock reaction is actually far worse. "Beckett, what do you think?"
"Not sure he's gonna be much help right now, Major," Ford reports, standing next to the desk chair the doctor is sitting in so he doesn't slump over and fall out of it. "Dr. Beckett? Carson?"
Beckett awakens slightly with a groan before bending double and getting sick into a hastily provided trash can, thanks to Teyla's quick reflexes. John concludes that it's probably best to take matters into his own hands.
He's pretty sure his Basic Life Support certification hasn't even expired yet.
With the power still spotty and no doctors lucid enough to help them in the medbay anyway, John decides to just grab supplies from wherever he can find them and bring them back to the command center. He delivers portable space heaters first, and then blankets and dry clothes, just spare sweatshirts and sweatpants that will probably fit Rodney and be huge on Elizabeth. And then he goes for medical supplies just in case, spending the whole trip trying not to think about Elizabeth changing clothes or if his own wardrobe would fit her any better. None of those thoughts are any of his business.
The medbay brings him heated blankets-- provided he can plug them in-- and a thermometer that looks battery powered, at least. The storm is still impossibly loud, and John reflects that he might not mind one of those blankets himself.
When he gets back to control, Elizabeth and Rodney have changed clothes, and Ford and Teyla, the geniuses that they are, have dragged mattresses from wherever the closest living quarters were, taking up the floor of the briefing room. It's kind of cozy, with the heaters, and John plugs in the heated blankets and passes them out to everyone's enjoyment.
"If it's still storming," Elizabeth murmurs, her words slurring, "I might... try to get some sleep. Before the others come home."
Rodney squints. "You don't look so good."
"At least I'm not oozing blood everywhere," Elizabeth retorts, and John realizes he's gonna have to keep juggling things a little longer.
"Let me see your arm, Rodney," he requests, as Teyla hands him bandages from a first aid kit. "Elizabeth, honey, I don't think you should go to sleep just yet, but how about you take this thermometer and tell me what it says your temperature is, okay?" He doesn't know where the pet name comes from. Hopefully she won't remember later. Ford is giving him a look, though.
Teyla, god bless her, helps Elizabeth coordinate her hands enough to handle the thermometer, and it beeps just as John finishes wiping off Rodney's arm, much to his patient's protest. "What does 34.8 mean?"
"Damn, that's celsius," John says, beginning to wrap the bandage. "I don't know."
"Human body temperature is 37 degrees celsius," Rodney informs him. "She's too cold."
There's a stretchy wrap that seems like it's made to secure the soft bandages. John adds that. "What else am I supposed to do?"
"You could share body heat, Major," Ford pipes up, helpful as always. John glares at him.
"We've really only got the mega-bed, anyway," Rodney points out.
John moves slowly down to the mattress, taking a non-electric blanket for himself. "Elizabeth?" He asks, sitting beside the edge of her heated blanket. "Is it okay if I get in your personal space?"
She smirks at him, which feels incredibly in-character for her even if her eyes are still a little too glassy. "Well, I don't have a decent pillow, do I?"
It's nice, when she settles herself against his chest, and not just because she shares the electric blanket. Her skin is still far too cool to the touch, even though she's flushed. Even with Teyla on her other side, relaxed but not dozing, John still feels a little too awkward. "Rodney?" He asks, trying to joke. "Wanna hug? You seem a little chilly yourself."
"I've got more muscle mass to keep me warm," he insists, but he makes his way over to lie with them, folding his hands behind his head and letting John throw an arm over his shoulders. Ford drapes them in another heated blanket before returning to Beckett Duty-- and snapping a picture with a field camera.
Rodney laughs, and Teyla smiles. "Fuck you," John offers.
But Elizabeth is starting to feel warm again tucked against him, and he decides it's not a terrible way to wait out the storm.

Doctors Say High Heat is Good for Your Health — Sweat It Out with These Best Home Saunas
Gone are the days when a sauna was synonymous with a trip to the spa or gym. Today, personal home saunas are flourishing, offering an easy way to reap the many health benefits of elevated body temperature right from your home. Rising evidence supports the claim that regularly using a sauna can improve cardiovascular health, aid in sleep, and even enhance cognitive functions.
Dr. Zeke McKinney, residency program director at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, highlights that one of the primary benefits of sauna use is cardiovascular health. “The heat causes blood vessels to dilate, which increases blood flow,” he explains. Research backs this up, with a 2019 study showing that frequent sauna use significantly reduces the risk of sudden cardiac death and improves overall cardiovascular health.
Beyond cardiovascular benefits, saunas may help with better sleep, reduced inflammation, and the elimination of toxins through sweat, according to Dr. Hunter Scott Waldman, an assistant professor of exercise science. He also notes that while the research is still emerging, there’s promising evidence that saunas may enhance insulin sensitivity and provide mental health benefits.
Choosing the Best Home Sauna
When selecting a home sauna, you’ll encounter a range of options including wet, dry, and infrared models. Each type offers different benefits and features. Wet saunas use water to increase humidity, dry saunas heat the air, and infrared saunas use light to warm your body directly. “Infrared saunas might not need to be as hot since the heat penetrates the skin directly,” notes McKinney, adding that they are often less expensive.
For those with specific needs or limited space, portable saunas and outdoor options are also available. However, if you're looking for quality and versatility, Sun Home Saunas stands out with several excellent options.

The sauna includes the same mobile-app control system and audio features, making it a versatile and enjoyable addition to your home.
How to Choose the Best Home Sauna
When selecting a sauna, consider several factors. The ideal model should reach temperatures between 140 and 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Wood options like cedar and hemlock are popular due to their heat-resistance and pleasant aroma. Features to look for include a control panel for temperature regulation, a timer, and auto shutoff for safety. Extras like Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi, internal speakers, and comfort features such as ergonomic seating or tablet holders can enhance your sauna experience.
Additionally, think about the electrical requirements and installation needs. Some saunas may need a dedicated circuit and professional installation, while others are easier to set up and plug into existing outlets.
With the right choice, a home sauna can provide a luxurious and health-boosting retreat right in your own home. Whether you opt for the expansive Luminar series or the more compact Solstice, Sun Home Saunas offers options that cater to a range of needs and preferences.

The Ultimate Guide to Infrared Saunas: How to Choose the Best One
In our fast-paced world, the quest for relaxation and wellness is more important than ever. One of the most effective and luxurious ways to achieve both is through heat saunas. Saunas have been cherished for centuries for their numerous health benefits, from improving cardiovascular health to promoting detoxification and enhancing overall well-being.
In this comprehensive guide, let’s explore everything you need to know about infrared saunas, including their benefits, different types, and tips for choosing the best one to suit your needs.
The Science Behind Heat Saunas
At the core of a heat sauna's appeal is its ability to elevate the body’s temperature, inducing sweating and promoting various health benefits. When you sit in a sauna, the heat causes your blood vessels to dilate, increasing blood flow and improving circulation. This process helps to relax muscles, soothe aches and pains, and promote healing. Additionally, sweating is one of the body’s natural ways to detoxify, helping to eliminate toxins and impurities through the skin.
Health Benefits of Heat Saunas
Detoxification: Regular sauna use can help remove heavy metals and other toxins from the body, promoting a cleaner, healthier system.
Improved Circulation: The heat from the sauna increases blood flow, which can help reduce muscle soreness, improve joint movement, and enhance overall cardiovascular health.
Stress Relief: Saunas provide a tranquil environment that promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and improves mental clarity. The endorphins released during a sauna session can elevate your mood and leave you feeling refreshed.
Skin Health: Sweating helps to cleanse the skin, removing dead skin cells and promoting a healthy glow. Regular sauna use can improve skin tone, texture, and elasticity.
Pain Relief: The heat from a sauna can help to alleviate pain from conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It also helps to reduce inflammation and improve mobility.
Types of Heat Saunas
There are several types of heat saunas available, each offering unique benefits and experiences. Understanding the differences can help you choose the best one for your needs.
Traditional Finnish Saunas: These saunas use a combination of high heat and low humidity, typically heated with a wood-burning stove or electric heater. They provide an intense, dry heat that can reach temperatures of 160-200°F (70-100°C). Traditional saunas are excellent for those who enjoy a robust and invigorating sauna experience.
Heat Saunas: Unlike traditional saunas, infrared saunas use infrared heaters to emit radiant heat that directly warms the body without heating the surrounding air. This type of sauna operates at lower temperatures, typically between 120-140°F (50-60°C), making it more comfortable for longer sessions. Saunas are known for their deep penetrating heat, which can provide more targeted relief for sore muscles and joints.
Steam Saunas (Steam Rooms): Steam saunas generate moist heat by producing steam from boiling water. They typically operate at lower temperatures (110-114°F or 43-46°C) but with higher humidity levels. Steam saunas are great for respiratory health, as the moist heat can help to open airways and alleviate congestion.
Portable Saunas: These compact and convenient options are perfect for those with limited space or those who want to enjoy the benefits of a sauna on the go. Portable saunas can be either infrared or steam-based and are designed to be easy to set up and take down.
How to Choose the Best Heat Sauna for You
Selecting the right heat sauna depends on several factors, including your personal preferences, health goals, and available space. Here are some tips to help you make an informed decision:
Determine Your Goals: Consider what you want to achieve with your sauna sessions. Are you looking for intense heat and detoxification, or do you prefer a gentler, more relaxing experience? Your goals will help guide you toward the right type of sauna.
Consider Your Space: Evaluate the space you have available for a sauna. If you have a dedicated room or outdoor area, a traditional or infrared sauna may be suitable. For smaller spaces, a portable sauna might be the best option.
Budget: Saunas come in a range of prices, so it's important to determine your budget beforehand. Traditional and heat saunas tend to be more expensive, while portable saunas offer a more affordable alternative.
Health Considerations: If you have any medical conditions or concerns, consult with your healthcare provider before using a sauna. Some individuals may need to avoid high heat or humidity, making an infrared or steam sauna a better choice.
Quality and Features: Look for saunas made from high-quality materials and with features that enhance your experience, such as adjustable temperature controls, timers, and ergonomic seating.
Final Words
Heat saunas offer a myriad of health benefits, from detoxification and improved circulation to stress relief and enhanced skin health. By understanding the different types of saunas and considering your personal needs and preferences, you can choose the best sauna to incorporate into your wellness routine.
Whether you opt for a traditional Finnish sauna, an infrared saunas, or a portable option, regular sauna sessions can be a transformative addition to your lifestyle, promoting relaxation, rejuvenation, and overall well-being.
