Ross for the not so nice asks 3, 12, 29, 35 & 44 thank you
Tumblr media
I love these. Thanks so much for asking!
One day, questions like this will not trigger my need to ramble and overanalyze something I wrote over a year ago, but today is not that day. Today you’re getting a rambling.
3. What is the worst pain they’ve ever experienced?
When he was still a dumb teenager who just found out what Caleb had been hiding from him, he felt so betrayed and deceived. Words can’t describe his disappointment that his “perfect cool vampire best friend” wasn’t actually a perfect best friend. It felt like his whole world crumbled and he didn’t know what to believe anymore. Caleb was the one person he truly cared about, he trusted him so much, he was his best friend, how dares he keep secrets?! Cancelled, don’t go near me.
Look. Ross had a point and as a person who also reacts a bit too dramatically to things sometimes, I can see where he’s coming from, but still. That was unfair from him. After all, he lied to a lot of people back in the day (how many times did he swear love to people he didn’t really love?). But you don’t feel so good when you’re the one who’s being lied to, eh, Ross?
Also, here’s another thing from his teenage days that brought him a lot of pain. Remember my epilogue kinda thing? That part of gen 1 where I was like “lol let’s abduct Caleb, after all I promised him I would do that if he doesn’t stop showing up every other night”? (I hate myself for that now, but at least things turned out the way they turned out I guess.) During that time, he avoided Ross. He didn’t want him to know. Which…fair, I guess. He definitely was more aware of Ross’s flaws than Ross was aware of them and he was a little cautious. (also, related to that, Ross was really blind to any of Caleb’s flaws or pains, he really only saw a cool vampire when he was younger, Caleb saw him in a way more realistic light if that makes sense)
But back to answer the question, the fact that Ross couldn’t reach out to him was also one of his greatest pains. And confusions. At least, there’s this saying, “all the bad things are good for something”. It certainly turned out to be true for them. Way later, when everything was sorted out between them (and Ross was already an adult who had made a bunch of mistakes and was trying to learn from them), they talked about this time a lot, they talked about how they both felt and what they didn’t like about the other one’s behavior. It made them understand each other better and it definitely strengthened their relationship. And I’m getting off topic but that’s nothing unusual for me.
Side note, I’m really addicted to analyzing these two.
12. Have they ever done something illegal? What was it?
Well…he was in politics, so you could think that maybe there was some bribing going on, but he didn’t do that. Never. He didn’t bribe anyone, he never accepted a bribe either. (that’s one of the few things December and Kieran taught him right haha - they weren’t completely bad parents) He did lie a lot as a politician though. But empty promises just before election are…kind of to be expected, right?
29. Does what they cannot see scare them?
Depends on what exactly it is. He accepted the existence of many supernatural creatures, he knows ghosts are real, but of course, that doesn’t mean he’s cool with all of them. When he lived alone and heard a strange noise at night, it scared him, but he would also get up to take a look at what it might be. And maybe he hoped that it would be a certain vampire breaking in, because let’s not forget that once he wasn’t mad at Caleb anymore, he started missing him, but he wasn’t sure if it wasn’t too late to reconcile. (Why do I always end up at Caleb. Ross, why does your entire existence revolve around your husband. Why are you so obsessed with him. Tell me.)
35. If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?
Ross can see that he has troubles with empathy. He’s still learning to see beyond how he feels and what he wants. It’s better these days, but a long road is still ahead of him.
44. What’s one thing they wish they could do more often, but can’t?
He didn’t realize how much he loved the sun when he was still alive. Now that he’s a vampire - and a young one who is far from mastering the art of not dying in the daylight - he misses it. He misses going out in the summer and spending the day on the beach, or just in his backyard, or pretty much anywhere.
