few spurious rivalries are felt quite as passionately as those between groups of people with different medical problems that share certain features and/or treatment options in common, information about each of which keeps fouling up the search results for anything to do with the other.

#why would i have gotten a vitrectomy for a macular hole like some kind of chump? *obviously* it was for an idiopathic retinal detachment!#(proceeds to get mad at people with macular holes about it for wanting to know more about their thing)#there's also the situation where one condition is a lot more common (or at least better-resourced) than the other #such that one is affected by this problem to a much greater extent than the other #e.g. all the menopause garbage that trans people have to wade through to find relevant hrt information #but i wouldn't call that a 'spurious rivalry' - on one side that's the genuine pain of erasure #and on the other side it tends to be blissful ignorance that there's even a problem
