could u write something for being andrew Peter Parker’s little sister?? Not no way home related like maybe she brings home a boyfriend (in the correct universe lol) and he gets all protective and spies on her date as Spiderman?
Y/N is in her room, inspecting her appearance in the full body mirror she has. Peter walks by her open bedroom door, backtracking when he realizes she's in a skirt and nice shirt with a pair of small heels -- something she rarely wears.
"What are you wearing?" Peter asks, a quizzical look on his face.
"Clothes." Y/N deadpans making her brother roll his eyes.
"Why are you dressed nice?" Peter asks.
"Maybe I just want to look nice." Y/N shrugs, gathering a few items and stuffing them in her purse.
There's a knock on the front door and Y/N brushes past her brother, trying to answer the door, but May beats them to it.
"Oh, hello." May greets the young boy.
"Hi. You must be May, I'm Randy." The teen introduces himself.
"Hello." May shakes his hand before turning to her sheepish niece and confused nephew.
"Um, Aunt May, this is Randy. You remember when I mentioned that we had been talking." Y/N says, walking up to them and standing next to her date. "We're going out for dinner and a movie."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, you're going on a date?" Peter questions, rushing up to them.
"Yes, Pete. A date." Y/N nods.
"Wh-when was this planned?" Peter asks.
"A few days ago." Y/N says.
"Well, you two have fun. Be back at a decent time, Y/N." May instructs.
"Of course, Aunt May." Y/N smiles, giving her aunt a kiss on the cheek. "We'll be safe. Promise."
May softly smiles, walking off, leaving the three teenagers alone.
"So, uh... when'd you meet?" Peter asks.
"Peter..." Y/N quietly warns.
"School." Randy answers.
"Ah. School. Yeah, that-that's something. Solid place to meet." Peter says. "Where exactly are you going?"
"The, uh, the Italian place a few blocks away that Y/N really likes. Then the movie theater that's near it." Randy informs.
"Yeah, so we're not far away. That's great. Bye, Peter." Y/N quickly ushers Randy out, shutting the door behind them.
- - -
Randy and Y/N are in the middle of dinner when Randy spots a flash of blue and red.
"Yo, I think I just saw Spider-Man." Randy says.
"What?" Y/N asks, looking around outside. It's easy as they're sat next to a window.
"Yeah, he was there." Randy points a certain direction and Y/N looks, but doesn't see anything.
After a few more moments, Y/N glances outside, spotting the Spider-Man outfit hiding somewhat behind a bush.
"Um... can you excuse me for a few moments?" Y/N asks with a tight lipped smile.
"Sure." Randy nods.
Y/N quickly exits the restaurant, finding the bush and walking up to Spider-Man.
"What do you think you're doing?" Y/N asks making Peter turn to her.
"Uh... no-nothing. I'm patrolling. You never know what danger could be around. Innocents getting attacked." Peter says.
"Pe--" Y/N stops, trying not to give away his identity. "Spider-Man. I can handle myself. Stop being overprotective and spying."
"I'm not spying. I'm watching out. Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Looking out is my job." Peter says.
"So go look out for someone else. Other people who might be in danger." Y/N says.
"I am. Just while also watching you." Peter says.
"Stop spying on me and my date. I am fine. He's nice and funny and I like him. Don't ruin this. Go hang out with Gwen or something." Y/N says. "If I see you one more time tonight, I'm burning your skateboard."
"Wha-- Y/N." Peter whines.
"I mean it. Leave." Y/N tells him, going back to her date.
- - -
Randy and Y/N get back to the apartment and stay outside the door.
"I had fun tonight." Y/N says.
"Yeah, me too." Randy smiles.
The two lean in for a kiss, but before their lips are able to touch, the door opens making them jump apart. They turn and see Peter in the doorway with an innocent smile on his face.
"Hey. You're back." Peter smiles, ignoring Y/N's heated glare.
"Right. I'll see you later, Y/N." Randy smiles at her, risking a kiss on her cheek. "Nice to meet you, Peter." He awkwardly smiles at him. Peter forces a smile back and Randy leaves.
When she no longer sees him, Y/N turns to her brother with a harsh glare.
"What?" Peter asks. "I didn't spy on the rest of your date."
"You were standing behind the door." Y/N says.
"Which isn't spying. Maybe I was going to get the mail." Peter shrugs.
"We got the mail on the way back from school, doofus. I was with you." Y/N argues. "I'm burning your skateboard. Or blocking up your webs." She says, making her way to his bedroom.
"No, Y/N. Come on." Peter chases after her to prevent any damage she'll cause. "I'm sorry. But hey, you're safe."

Oh my gosh Tony Stark making fashion choices based on young RDJ movies, I love it 😂😂
sometimes tony’s just so tired of having to put on the Tony Stark Persona. it’s already shitty enough that he’s the youngest person at MIT with no one to relate to. he feels alone most of the time and the feeling doesn’t go away even when he’s surrounded by people.
he doesn’t want to go out, he doesn’t want to have to put on a show.
so on the weekends when he doesn’t have to go to the lab to work on his thesis project, tony and rhodey would stay in their dorm and binge-watch movies. they go to blockbuster and rent a bunch of movies. tony keeps the vhs tapes close to his chest and rhodey carries the bags full of popcorn and soft drinks. they get back to their dorm, tony wheels out the tv they shouldn’t have in their room and sets the first movie up while rhodey goes to microwave the popcorn in the common room.
tony’s still young, he’s still experimenting and discovering who he really is when he’s not Tony Stark™. he doesn’t really have his own sense of style yet and kind of just randomly pairs together the clothes that jarvis and ana buy for him the summers before he goes off to school.
the characters from the movies he and rhodey watches start to become sort of role models for tony. they’re all unafraid of being themselves, of expressing who they are fearlessly, whatever the consequences may be.
like so many boys growing up in that era, tony develops a bit of a crush on molly ringwald. he starts watching whatever movie she’s in, and that’s when he first comes across this actor called robert downey. they’re watching the pick-up artist one night when suddenly rhodey says to tony, “hey, you know you could be doppelgangers.”
“what?! no way,” tony replies. “my face is one of a kind, honeybear.” but he grabs the vhs box and runs to the mirror and holds it up. he looks at his reflection then back at the cover and he thinks, oh. kind of.
he doesn’t even realize he’s doing it, but tony’s style starts to evolve. he sees the outfits that rdj wears in his movies and he fleetingly wonders, how would those pants look on me? next thing he knows, he’s browsing through macy’s and buying clothes for himself that he’s certain he’ll carry well. he doesn’t know how he’s so sure of it, but it’s just a gut feeling.
a couple years later, tony’s sitting alone in his apartment, missing rhodey who’s just gone off for his first deployment. tony’s feeling nostalgic, so he goes to the nearest blockbuster and rents some of his and rhodey’s favorite movies. he’s a quarter of the way through weird science and ian and max are being jackasses at the mall when tony squints a bit at the screen and thinks, i have that exact same outfit.
it happens again when he moves on to watching tuff turf. jimmy parker gets out of his car and tony gapes at the shirt he’s wearing. a shirt that’s almost identical to one that tony has hanging in his closet.
tony hops off the couch and runs to his bedroom and flings open the closet door. he paws through his drawers and the racks and every few items of clothing he comes across, he suddenly has vivid flashbacks of watching robert downey in a movie or that god awful season of snl wearing something incredibly similar.
he hadn’t even known he’d been making his fashion choices based on what his doppelganger wore for his roles, but to be honest, tony can’t complain. he’s grown more comfortable into his skin in the last few years, and the clothes on his back had helped him hone in his confidence immensely.
tony goes back into the living room and starts the movie back where he had left off. the next time the downey kid comes on screen, tony smiles a little and says a mental thank you.
#sdlalghsl idk what this is i didn't mean for it to be ficcy but#shrug emoticon#tony stark#kay writes things#anonymous#ask

it must be love — p.p.
summary: a series of moments where y/n and peter say ‘i love you’.
warnings: fem!reader. just fluffy :’)
wc: 2.3k
THE SOFT FABRIC drowned your body, so much so that the short sleeves almost came to your elbows and the hem grazed your thighs - covering the cotton of your little pyjama shorts wholly. It smelt like him, like honey and hazelnuts and all things great. The very thought had your beating heart, candescent and warm, becoming doused with a gracious intent.
It brought a glow to your cheeks, a soft smile lifting your lips as you peered down at yourself. It was one of his science pun tshirts that you loved to no extent, and you were wholeheartedly surprised when he had plucked the clothing item from his drawer and gently placed it in your hands with a shy smile only a couple of minutes beforehand.
It was his favourite shirt, and he wanted you to wear it.
The revelation only made the apples of your cheeks glow an even darker hue, your body blushing along with them. You turned to the mirror of his bathroom, eyeing the way your face was makeup free, but glowing with a radiance of pure happiness and a fading fiery blush. You looked happy, you observed as you grappled with your hair in the reflective surface - finally getting it up into a messy bun on the top of your head after a few tries. You were happy, and you only had Peter Parker to thank for that.
Gingerly, you twisted the lock with a click, and opened the bathroom door. The light under May’s bedroom door was out, and you knew she’d gone to sleep for the night. It was quite late, after all. With that acknowledgement, you tiptoed past her door and crept across the hall - ever so gently opening Peter’s bedroom door and slipping inside, not wanting to wake the kind woman.
Your warm eyes of honey and love were instantly brought to life when you saw your boyfriend stood in the centre of his room, clad in cerise hello kitty pyjama bottoms and a plain shirt. The gracious light from his bedside lamp had his features glowing angelically, the light luminous against the pout of his cupid’s bow and the rosiness of his cheeks, as he flicked through the channels on his tv - unaware yet so lovely.
Your bare feet padded quietly against his carpet as you neared him, wounding your arms under his and around his middle from behind. You felt him jump lightly against your daint hold, obviously not hearing you come back from getting ready for bed despite his spider-senses. You didn’t know that Peter’s thoughts were so consumed by you that he couldn’t concentrate on anything else, not even the abilities of his superhero alias.
The sound of your faint giggles, as you leant your forehead on the area between his shoulder blades and pressed a kiss to the middle of his back, had Peter smiling so lovingly. Your heartfelt affection always warmed his heart, and he couldn’t help himself when he swivelled around in your gentle clutch and let himself hug you back - close to his chest, where you belonged.
“Nice pyjama bottoms,” You mumbled into his clothed chest, and he could practically feel your teasing smile pressed up against him.
“I look better than you, baby,” He joked right back, his beam happy as he pulled back just so. He peered down at your attire and the grin on his lips slowly dropped into an open-mouthed gape, his eyes widening and his cheeks suddenly ablaze with hot reds.
The sight of you dressed in his favourite science pun tshirt, your legs on display and seemingly going on forever - it stirred feelings up in Peter that he’d never felt before. You, in his adored ‘I’ve lost an electron,’ ‘Are you positive?’ tshirt. You were perfection, how did he manage to get himself someone like you?
You noticed his reaction, bashfully bringing your bottom lip between your teeth. Your arms unwinded themselves from around his middle as you stepped back slightly and tugged the material, trying to cover more of your skin, shy under his admiring gaze.
“Okay,” His voice was high in pitch as he nodded, swallowing roughly, before planting his hands on the curve of your waist and tugging you close to him once again, “Okay, um, I take it back. Y-You look so so pretty, you always do, wow, I love you.”
-
Wistful tears tumbled down your rosy cheeks as you peered up into his hazel eyes; they were filled with worrisome concern as they darted across your features, to and fro and wide with anguish. Your trembling bottom lip broke his heart into shattered pieces in his chest, and he hated how his thumbs couldn’t keep up with the tears falling from your eyes of glass.
His hands tenderly held your face between them, cradling your cheeks with his fingertips getting lost in the strands of your hair and the pads of his thumbs swiping away the tears as they raced down your cheeks. But, soon they were collapsing in heart-wrenching drops like unrelenting rain, too quick for him to wipe away before they slipped from your jaw and hit the carpeted ground.
Seeing you like that tugged ruthlessly at Peter’s heartstrings. Bad day, he knew. It happens, he knew that too. But, you never deserved it to happen to you, not someone as kind and caring and beautiful as you, that he was so certain of. The sound of your dismal sobs slipping from your lips, the feeling of your fingers clutching his tshirt in their grip so desperately.
He couldn’t help but wrap his arms around your figure, the unmerciful cries racking your body as he pulled you close to his chest. With his chin resting ever so gently atop your head, his arms wound tightly around you, and his body faintly rocking the two of you back and forth in a soothing attempt to calm your cries, Peter found himself whispering sweet nothings and everythings all at once to the shell of your ear. That it would be okay, that he’s there and will always be, that he loved you.
Awhile later, all that could be heard was the light sniffles of the remnants of your broken sobs. Your tear stained face was resting in the crook of his neck, your fingers delicately tracing the hemline of Peter’s shirt. You were so utterly grateful for him. He was an angel, and you were sure that you didn’t deserve him. Not when he dropped everything and raced to your house as soon as he heard your faint cries in his ears when you dialled his number.
But you didn’t want him to rethink, and come to the rightful conclusion that he deserved the world and more. So instead, you simply pressed a kiss, so soft and so loving, to the exposed area of his neck - your lips mumbling against his skin just after, “Please stay and cuddle with me? I love you.”
And he did.
-
He was ecstatic. Just like he always was when he took a test in Chemistry and got his results back later on in the week.
Other students sat anxiously in their seats waiting for their teacher to hand back their test with their percentage written in the top right-hand corner, the taunting vermillion ink of the pen in the shape of a number staring back at them.
Peter didn’t sweat, he and everyone else in his class knew what he was capable of in Chemistry, and it was not a rare occasion for him to get 100% and pass with flying colours. Everyone knew he was a genius, and it got to the point where it was simply expected of him - nobody gawped at the giant three-digit number, nobody grinned and patted his back in congratulations, nobody noticed his efforts. Not anymore.
Nobody but you.
Your reaction when he flashes you the sheet of paper with his grade etched into it always has his heart lifting in his chest, glowing with such adoration. You, despite knowing that your boyfriend was a complete genius and would go ever so far in life because of it, never failed to be utterly astounded with his intelligence and hard work.
Your eyes still blew wide with excitement, your lips still turned up into a radiant beam, your arms still flung themselves around his middle and pulled him close to you. Even after it had been the billionth time in a row that he’d gotten full marks.
“I’m so proud of you, Peter! That’s amazing!” You squealed quietly, your heart bursting with admiration and joy as you pressed a swift kiss to his lips, then another, and another, “You’re amazing; you’re so smart, I love you. I love you. I love you.”
-
A knock at the door, and immediately you were a grinning mess of flustered breaths and racing hearts. You weren’t expecting him, he hadn’t called or texted to let you know that he was coming over, but the rap of knuckles in a familiar tune let you know who was standing on your porch, regardless.
Tap tap, pause, tap tap.
You opened the door, a soft smile pulling your rosy cheeks upwards as you saw Peter standing on your front step. His eyes were bright upon seeing you (despite your lazy attire of sweatpants, his Midtown hoodie, and your hair up in a messy ponytail), his cheeks flush from the cool spring wind, and in hand: a bouquet of perky daffodils, bright the colour and sunny the feeling.
“Hey,” You greeted quietly, moving to the side to let him into the warmth of your home before shutting the cold outside with a thud of your door closing. Spinning around, your eyes were gleaming with a soft kind of happiness as you leant up on the tips of your toes and pressed your lips to his, your fingertips so daint and delicate in caressing his jaw.
When you drew back, he was smiling down at you. His smile reminded you of honey, sweet and lovely, and you had to peck his lips one last time because of it.
“Hey angel,” He took the hand hanging limply by your side and locked his fingers between the gaps of yours, “I saw these when I was walking back from the shop and thought of you, because you’re bright and sunny and I love you.”
-
Bonus:
The cafeteria was filled with bustling students, chattering to their friends, casually munching on their lunches. Peter’s lunch remained in front of him, untouched. Instead, he sat beside Ned, his chin rested in the palm of his hand and his eyes locked upon something on the opposite end of the lunch hall.
He was captivated, not hearing a word that his best friend was saying. Rather, the entirety of his attention was focused solely on you. You were sat with Michelle, your smile wide and your hands flying up animatedly as you explained something to the brunette girl.
The two of you did usually sit with Peter and Ned during lunch, the quartet close and tightly knitted as friends. But that day, you’d wanted to tell Michelle about the dress you’d brought for Homecoming - and Peter wasn’t allowed to know any details of your outfit until the night; it was a surprise. The only clue he was allowed was the colour, purely because May wanted his tie to match your dress. A deep red.
So, Peter spent the whole of lunch with fully-fledged heart-eyes, peering over at you across the distance between the two of you with a longing of wanting to be close to you again. He thought you always looked beautiful, but you’d pinned your hair back and out of your face that day so your features were glowing under the light of the sun filtering in through the windows even more than normal. He felt compelled by the radiance, and he couldn’t look away even if he wanted to. Which he didn’t.
“Peter, listen to me for like two seconds. I’m the guy in the chair, you’re supposed to listen to me,” Ned snickered, his elbow jabbing at the arm that was holding Peter’s head up.
The lovestruck boy jolted back at the offending action, glancing over at his friend with slumped shoulders and eyebrows knitted into a furrow. “But look at how good my baby looks today,” He let out a dramatic sigh, “She’s so pretty and I can’t even tell her right now,” His voice came as a childish whine, his eyes moving back to where you were beaming with happiness as you showed Michelle something on your phone.
Then, the shrill shriek of the bell echoed throughout the grounds of Midtown High, signalling students to make their way to fifth period. Peter knew that Ned shared your next class, and as Ned was turning away to walk to Product Design - Peter called out to him shamelessly over the sound of jostling students.
“Ned! You gotta tell (Y/N) that I said I love her!”

Walking The Wire (96/?)
Summary: Tony Stark always knew about Peter Parker. He didn’t know that Peter was going to get superpowers and become Spider-Man, but he always knew about Peter because Peter was his son.
This will span from pre-Iron Man up through the rest of the MCU (eventually including Infinity War) and will be for the most part canon compliant except where I’ve taken some liberties and interpreted canon a certain way.
Pairings: Pepper/Tony, Tony/Steve (endgame), Tony/Mary (past)
A/N: If you want me to tag you when I post new chapters let me know. This fic is also on AO3
I used Collider’s MCU timeline to stay canon and the title of this fic is an Imagine Dragons song that is just so fitting for Peter and Tony

Chapter Ninety Five
“I used to sketch them a lot,” Steve said.
Peter had gotten a little distracted by something Tony had left out -- some sort of new SI project from the look of it.
“You drew me my graduation card,” Peter said as turned away from the work table to look back at Steve.
Steve had almost forgotten about that. “I did,” he said, “I also attended your graduation.”
Peter’s jaw dropped open and his eyes widened and it was all that Steve could do to not laugh because he’d never known a person to display their emotions like that. “Why would you do that?” He asked after a moment.
Steve pushed Dum-E’s claw away when it came to tug at him. “It was a spur of the moment thing when we found out when your graduation was. Tony and I snuck in and sat in the back. We were wearing disguises, but we we were there. I’m actually surprised no one noticed us or approached us.”
Peter looked shocked, like he couldn’t believe it was true and Steve couldn’t really blame him because it did sound a little crazy.
“He never told me that,” Peter said. “He sent the card and we emailed about it, I think, but he never said he was there.”
Steve shrugged. “Tony didn’t want you to know.”
“Tony didn’t want him to know what?”
They both turned. Tony stood just within the workshop and it was clear that he had just arrived.
“You came to my Middle School graduation,” Peter said and he moved closer, standing next to Steve.
Tony rubbed the back of his head and he nodded. “Yeah. We did. No one even recognized us or they didn’t want to believe that it was us if they did.”
Peter shook his head and laughed. He couldn’t believe it. He couldn’t imagine them sitting in the back row among all those parents and teachers and whatnot.
“It was boring which is a given, but it was nice to see you in person at a time when I didn’t think you’d ever learn the truth.”
Steve could tell that Peter was still a little surprised by the whole thing, but he also saw that Tony was glad for the distraction. Clearly going to see May Parker hadn’t gone as well as Tony had hoped. He wondered what that meant for Peter.
“You could have told me then,” Peter said.
“That’s what I told him,” Steve said and he remembered having a small whispered conversation about approaching Peter and how much it had seemed like Tony wanted to approach him and yet knew he couldn’t.
“It wasn’t a good time,” Tony said. “But, I should have. Or earlier.”
They had never spoken about it, but Steve was sure that Tony regretted not being in Peter’s life earlier.
Peter spent the entire day with either Steve or Tony. At some point he’d gone back to his room to get changed out of his pajamas but he joined them back in the workshop and Tony’s newest renewable energy tech which Peter didn’t understand entirely but figured was brilliant. They had all joined Sam in front of the TV for a movie after a lunch that was ordered in by Tony and Peter got to see someone eat even more than he did for once. Steve had grinned at him. “It’s a good thing we know someone that can afford to feed us.”
Despite all the fun that he was having, Peter still couldn’t stop thinking about May and the fight and what had gotten him to the tower in the first place. Peter had expected her to text him or call him, but there had been nothing. It wasn’t at all like May to not try to check in on him but maybe -- maybe she knew he was okay. The person that did text him throughout the day was Ned.
Guy In The Chair: Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t coming to school today?
Peter: Forgot. I’m at the tower with my dad.
Guy In The Chair: Wait...wait...did you meet Captain America? And Black Widow? Oh my god, Peter, you have to tell me everything.
Peter was a little surprised that Ned knew until he looked it up online and there were a whole bunch of articles about the return of The Avengers. Everyone knew about it, then. Peter texted him about meeting them and about how nice everyone was. He didn’t tell him about the hot chocolate, but enough about Steve to keep him from pestering him too much.
Peter: I think Captain America wouldn’t mind meeting you.
Ned was a good distraction from thinking about May and how things were going to go. By the time that dinner rolled around, Peter had considered calling May but he didn’t know what he could say. If she hadn’t changed her mind about Spider-Man it would be another fight and Peter didn’t want that. He wanted them to get back to normal but maybe they just wouldn’t. The prospect of that scared him. He needed May in his life.
“You’re thinking kind of hard there, kiddo,” Tony said and nudged him.
“I just -- I don’t know what I’m going to do about May,” Peter said.
Tony nodded. “She’s always going to be your family and it’s hard to fight with someone you love. It hurts more. Hey, do you want to do something fun?”
Peter could see that his dad was just trying to distract him but he nodded anyway. Something fun turned out to be online shopping for room decor.
“I was thinking that If you’re going to be staying for a while we’re going to make sure that room at least reflects who you are.”
“Which is exactly what Peter wants from his bedroom,” Steve said, walking past them with empty take out containers.
“His room is boring right now, Steve,” Tony said.
Either way, Steve joined them in the workshop not too much later. He carried a sketch pad and he sat down on the futon just a few feet away from where Friday was displaying the items they were browsing for on a screen.
Peter appreciated the gesture even if it was unnecessary but he was happy to just let his dad have his way since he seemed excited about the whole thing. It was lucky Steve was there to voice his opinion when Tony found something a little too unnecessary.
They ended up buying all kinds of things. From posters to a weird looking lamp, a new dresser, a bunch of desk organizers, new sheets and duvet, as well as curtains. And then to top that off there were orders for clothing and when Tony saw them - plush pillows of all the Avengers which were not for Peter but for his living room.
“This is getting a bit excessive,” Steve said eventually as he peered through everything and found that it wasn’t only Peter that had gotten things but all of them. “I think he has enough stuff. I think we all have enough stuff.”
By the end of it the one thing that was clear to Peter was that his dad wanted him to feel welcome and that Peter was welcome to stay for a while and even if he didn’t, he would always have somewhere to go. He just needed to talk to May. Maybe that conversation wouldn’t go well, but Peter needed to try if only because she was still so important to Peter and he didn’t want to lose her.
“I think I still have to get a few things from home,” Peter said.
“I can have Happy go,” Tony offered.
Peter shook his head. “Do you think I should go talk to her? I don’t think she’s going to change her mind but I — I should try.”
Tony turned to look at him slowly. “If you think it would help. It’s up to you.”
“I don’t like when we’re mad at each other,” Peter said. “Maybe I’ll just give her a bit more time, though.”
It might help her calm down some more than if Peter didn’t go back immediately. Peter didn’t think she’d completely change her mind, but maybe she might let him explain himself. He figured maybe that’s why she wasn’t reaching out either.
“Up to you, Peter,” his dad said and then opened up a new page to show him a few more things.
“I really don’t--”
“Just look,” Tony said. “I’ll be right back. Maybe you’ll like something in there.”
“Don’t be afraid to tell him no,” Steve told him when Tony had left. He was in the middle of turning the page on his sketchbook and Peter was very curious to see what he’d drawn but didn’t want to ask.
“What?” he asked.
“Tony. He can go a little crazy with spending his money on people but he won’t be offended if you tell him you don’t need something. It’s just a part of him -- he shows he cares that way.”
“Oh,” Peter said.
After she had had some time to think and let some of her anger wane, May still couldn’t be completely okay with Peter being Spider-Man. She would have been opposed to anything that was self-destructive and dangerous. It made her wonder how Ben would have seen it. Ben who had always been in awe of Captain America and who had really been impressed with Tony once it turned out that he was Iron Man. He had loved The Avengers, too, and May remembered suddenly that Captain America had actually saved Ben during that attack in New York. It hurt to not have him for this. To not know for sure what he would have thought or how he would have felt. All of that was compounded with the fact that Peter just -- he wasn’t there.
After the first day -- and after Tony had stopped by -- May had really started to miss Peter. The house felt huge without him and May felt lonely. She’d stared at pictures for a long time. Old ones from when Peter had first come to live with them. It had been the right thing to do to take in Peter despite how much her life had changed because of it. But that wasn’t a bad thing. Peter was amazing -- he was sweet and wonderful and May would do anything for him.
What May couldn’t understand was how easily Tony was just letting Peter be Spider-Man. He had said something about how he was making sure that Peter didn’t get hurt, but it wasn’t reassuring to May about his parenting skills. It did make May a little less wary but she also knew that there was no guarantee that Tony could keep Peter safe all the time. Maybe the suit and his powers and Tony’s involvement helped but for May it was always going to be hard to know that Peter was putting his life on the line. She would feel the same way if he went into the army or became a police officer or a firefighter. But...but Captain America had saved Ben and countless others. Peter was doing the same. He was helping and saving people and it was noble and wonderful and it was making a difference but he was Peter -- her Peter and she hated that she would rather he not help, but she just loved him too much and wanted him to live.
She had a mixture of feelings and thoughts about it and she didn’t reach out to Peter because of them. The thing was that at the end of the day she always went back to not wanting him to do it. When she saw Peter again it had been almost a week since she found out he was Spider-Man. He entered the house like normal, using the front door even, and then stopped short when he saw her.
“Peter,” she whispered.
“Hi, May. I came -- I wanted to get some of my things.” Peter said but he didn’t move, staring at her.
“Yeah, of course. How -- how is everything?”
“Good, I guess. I haven’t been...it’s been kind of busy. I -- I’ll go to my room.”
May followed after him and watched him as he walked into his room. It was just as he left it and he stepped right into the middle of it, but then moved towards his desk and the school things he’d left behind. He packed those up first.
“I didn’t mean for you to really leave,” May said after watching him for a while. “I -- I’m trying to figure out how I can be okay with this. I just don’t want anything to happen to you and it’s hard for me, Peter, you have to understand that..”
Peter let out a breath and he turned to look at her. “I get that. It was a lot for me and I didn’t think I should do this at first. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do, but I have to do this, May.”
“But why?” May asked and she really did want an answer.
Peter put down a book he was holding and he moved to sit on his desk chair. “I have powers, May. Got them from a spider a while back -- I guess about a year ago now -- and because I have them I have to this. I can do this. So I should. Otherwise when bad things happen and I didn’t stop them then that’s -- I’ll feel like it’s my fault. That’s not something I want to feel again.”
“Again?” May asked.
Peter gulped and her shifted a little in the chair. “I had my powers already when Ben--” Peter closed his eyes as he trailed off.
May’s chest ached and she couldn’t say anything and instead she looked at Peter who seemed to be collecting himself. He cleared his throat and smiled tightly at her.
“May, when Ben died I had my powers. I could’ve -- I should have stopped it -- the guy that...Anyway, I didn’t. I froze and I can’t do that again not when someone’s family is in danger and I can help. That’s why I do it, May. And I know you don’t get it or want me to do it but I have to.”
“Oh, Peter,” May whispered. She moved forward and her arms just instinctively went around him, pressing his face to her waist since he was still sitting and Peter’s arms around around her too.
It was a while before she let go and looked at Peter. She pushed his hair back and he looked up at her and he was still so so young.
“I don’t like it,” she said. “I really don’t, Pete.”
“I know,” Peter said, “but I have to do this, May. I was -- I was thinking that maybe it would be better if I...well, I’ve lived with you for almost my entire life and Tony’s my dad. I get to see him from time to time but with school and...and Spider-Man I don’t see him all the time. I think I want to live with him for a while.”
It was a punch to the gut to hear that and yet May should have seen it coming. It only made sense. After all, Peter and Tony had become closer and closer since Peter had met him and May didn’t mind that. She was happy that Peter had a relationship with his dad it was just difficult to face that it was changing her relationship with Peter as well.
Her whole life had changed when she and Ben took Peter in. Neither of them had ever wanted kids but they had known that if they didn’t take him that he would go to Tony Stark and neither of them expected that to be a good thing. It had come easy somehow, to take care of Peter. Peter had always been easy. It had been so easy to love him too and all her reservations about kids had flown out the window because of him. Still, at times it had been hard to think about everything they’d given up for him. She and Ben had wanted to travel the world and do countless other things that just hadn’t been possible with a kid. None of it was really possible now either because it was only her. Ben was gone. And now...now Peter was leaving her too and he was all that she had left.
“May?” Peter asked.
May shook her head and then she sighed. “That’s -- if that’s what you want I can’t stop you. Kind of like I can’t stop you from being Spider-Man I suppose.”
Peter nodded. “I won’t be gone forever, May. I’ll come and stay here when I can and I’ll definitely visit. You’re still -- you’re my Aunt May. I’m going to miss being here. I’ll miss you.”
That made it hurt a little less but still it all felt like a goodbye and it felt like it was all entirely her fault. If she had reacted a little differently or just not tried to give Peter that ultimatum things might have been differently. She remembered what Tony had said about how in order to not lose Peter he had allowed him to continue being Spider-Man. Maybe letting him go and letting him do what he wanted was her way of keeping him even if meant that he wouldn’t be living with her anymore. The other thing that helped was remembering that Peter would have been leaving in a few years for college anyway. This was going to be like that. It was just happening earlier.
“You have to call me every week and I expect texts almost daily,” May said. “I want to see you just as often. It will -- it will take me some time to get used to you being Spider-Man and I’m going to worry every time I hear anything about him -- you. And I will support you 100% if you were to change your mind on being a hero.”
Peter laughed. “I know,” Peter said. “I know, May. But I’m doing the right thing.”
He was the one to hug her first and she held him back tight. “I love you, Peter.”
“Love you too, Peter.”
He stayed with her for the rest of the day and when she saw his bag later, he hadn’t actually packed up too many things. Mostly his school stuff, a few articles of clothing, and a couple of knick knacks. For the most part his room remained the same and that made May feel a little better. She wasn’t sure that she would ever truly accept Spider-Man, but she needed to let Peter do whatever he needed to do and just hope that Tony could keep him safe.

Week 7: Instagram face filters
Instagram face filters and augmented reality
Using Insta filters daily but have you guys ever wondered how it works and what is the magical technology behind it? The functionality of the Instagram filter is based on a facial detection technique that recognizes patterns of bright and dark pixels as separate sections of the face. The image within the frame of the camera is mapped out with a sequence of coordinates that identify these locations as eyes, lips, and other features. The filters are then aligned with these coordinates to ensure that virtual elements remain in position even when the user is not standing in one certain place and moving around (but they have to make sure that nothing covers their face). That is the reason why in Covid 19, everyone wears masks so which makes it difficult for the technique to identify their face. A user can try on numerous designs in seconds before selecting one, snapping a selfie in a photo or video format, and emailing it to a friend. Some filters just provide virtual cosmetics, allowing users to experiment with different cosmetic looks. Others use quirky decorations – flower crowns, dog snouts, flying butterflies – while also changing the visage underneath. According to Word Stream, Over 40 billion photos and videos have been shared on the Instagram platform since its conception and 500 million users use the “stories” feature daily. With this kind of scale and usage, dressing up in the mirror image of a smartphone is no longer just for fun; it has become a worldwide phenomenon. In order to give an explanation about those massive numbers, user can easily reach their fashionable beauty ideal – which was previously thought to be impossible – becomes instantaneously attainable for the masses with the simple swipe of a touchscreen
In May 2019, Instagram announced that anyone can build custom AR filters using its Spark AR Studio platform. Currently, it is available for Mac and Windows. It’s also easy for other Instagram users and followers to find these filters to apply. Anyone visiting your brand’s Instagram profile can click the new face icon.
The question is why did Instagram create this new feature for all of their users?
Firstly, whether you are a normal user or KOL, you can show off your brand’s personality. Custom AR filters reflect your brand’s tone, especially if that tone is fun, colorful or weird and gloomy. They also often reflect the unique parts of your brand, helping you stand out from your competitors. I remember that last year, I saw many Vietnamese local brands use this feature on their IG story. They first create that and re-up all other user's stories who use their filter. Instagram has started an AR shopping feature with brands such as Warby Parker, MAC Cosmetics, Ray-Ban, and NARS Cosmetics. It allows users to try on brand items from eyeglasses to shoes to see if they fit or are trendy or not without going to the store to try them on. In fact, this is still not 100% complete like trying on real-life clothes, but it is also considered a new step in the filter industry. Secondly, when Incorporating your brand’s logo or symbol into an AR filter, it is helpful a lot in increasing the brand’s awareness. Nowadays, you don't have to worry about your design disappearing because there is one separate part called Effect Gallery displayed in your IG account where everyone can find out. In addition, when people consider that filter and decided to apply your filter in their story, all of their followers will be exposed to your brand. Viewing an AR filter for Instagram Stories, there’s a “try it” button on the bottom left-hand side of the screen. There is no limitation for using filters so your brand can be spread plenty of time without any paying fee.

Celebrity power:
Celebrities have a huge impact on fashion trends mainly because of the number of followers on their social media platform, and these followers desire to look and dress like them. Films, Music videos and what celebrities are currently wearing also have an impact of current trends.
When you think back to trends like the hippie style in 1967 and early 70’s you are also reminded of the music genre such as Jimi Hendrix’s and the impact he had on that style. This is because artist had a massive influence on the clothes people wanted to buy. This applies to every generation like the Rock N Roll time when artist such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
Also, film actors and actresses such as Audrey Hepburn made pieces of clothing such as the little black dress so iconic and a statement piece that is said to be needed in every woman’s wardrobe and Marilyn Monroe to only inspired women to embrace their size as she was classed as a larger model, she was also the face of Coco Chanel’s perfume.
Princess Diana was a fashion Icon to not only England but maybe the world. Fashion designers constantly wanted to see what she would wear as they knew she would be on the front cover of most magazines. They wanted to create clothes similar to what she was wearing as they knew this is what the public and especially middle-aged women would want to aspire to dress like.
The same goes for the Kardashians. There is an awful lot of girls and women out there that inspire to look like these women. This gives them the power to influence trends and even promote their own brands.
This is known as the trickle-down theory. As celebrities or people with power and money can explore the latest styles which is then adopted by their followers that what to copy their style. People like Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner have millions of followers and its these people what will buy the product that they are wearing/ promoting.
But not all celebrities are trend setters, it depends on people’s perception of style and fashion is and can even be affected by that person’s environment and culture.

Subcultures:
Fashion subcultures are groups based up on certain features of costume or appearance that make them distinctive enough to be recognised as a subset or wider culture and can show a particular age span, gender, social class, or ethnic identity. I think the music was a big part of subcultures as the fans would replicate what the performers wear. Subcultures have influenced trends by using a bubble-up theory: street culture fashion and consumerism inspires the designers and the trend predictions.
Teddy boys were the first young generation in the 1950’s to create their own style and make it acceptable to dress up. They would wear tapered trousers, long jackets, and fancy waistcoats. Celine A/W 19 collection depicted this very well. The roots of the Teddy Boy lie much in the rebellious attitude of early Rock and Roll music.

In the 1960’s the modernist had a big impact on fashion and music. The key fashion staples included tailored suits, soul and R&B music and motor scooters. This period was known as the swinging 60’s all around the world. This decade introduced hot pants, coloured tights, miniskirts, and plastic macs became iconic Designers such as Chanel SS20, Louis Vuitton SS13 and Saint Laurent SS19 have all done similar pieces in bright vibrant colours that really resemble the 60’s fashion.

In the 1970’s punk subcultures centred on punk rock music. The music had a big impact on subculture as people were taking inspiration from the punk rock artist and the way the music made you feel. The punk look is one of the most recognisable styles as the ripped clothes, big colourful hair, platform boots and accessories like safety pins are so iconic.

The 1980’s were known for their bold styles, colours and silhouettes and not forgetting the permed hair, it was one of the most electric decades in fashion with trends spanning from biker jackets, ripped tights, oversized blazers. Pop stars such as Madonna and film actresses like Sarah Jessica parker did have an impact on the fashion industry as there fans wanted to dress similar so the clothing they would wear in the movies and in the music videos, the style would often be replicated for the consumers to buy.

Style tribes:
Style tribes are a group of people joined by a distinctive look. Style tribes can influence and spread the perception of new fashion looks. An example of a style tribe is the “Essex look” when you hear this you think of fake tan, big eyelashes, large hair and small dresses and heels. This is a style tribe. Another is the “Hippie” look. When hearing this you generally think of colourful tie dye flowing materials and flower headbands.
There are so many different style tribes and recognisable looks all around the world.

Social media:
The younger generation are always on social media and are constantly seeing pictures of celebrities that have the most influence on fashion trends today. People born between 1990 and the 2000s are known as generation Zen (Gen Z) these people are known for using the internet from a young age and are comfortable with social media and technology. Gen Z Is the rise of the bloggers.
Also, platforms like Tik Tok have a huge influence on music trends.
A fashion blogger is someone who will write an online magazine or blog using the power of social media to be able to identify the latest trends. They identify what is out there and what is happening.
A fashion Influencer is somebody that has a large number of followers and these followers desire to look, and dress like them. They want to duplicate the look and influencers and the power to influence people’s opinions on what to buy. Brands endorse them to attend fashion shows, parties, dinners and more and to wear their clothes on social media to help expand their brand. Take kylie Jenner for example she has 210 million followers. If she posts a picture in a certain dress or shoes her followers would most likely want similar aesthetics so will go out and purchases similar items. She also used this platform to promote her makeup and skin care line for free. Whereas people like Holly May Murphy (the fashion blogger) they use this platform to not only record current trends, but she creates videos to help people style clothes and gives advice and information on different things like skin care and how to style chunky boots etc.
Brand slaves are people that feel they need designer labels to fit in and be recognised by their peers. They want to buy these expensive things so they can post it on social media.

Global issues:
Now the world is experiencing a worldwide virus and lockdown the fashion industry is truly changing. The human impact gives a new perspective on consumption habits. Fashion trends are now focusing on comfort as it knows most people will now be having to stay at home and if they want their clothes to stay relevant, they need to develop them to the consumer’s needs. Also, global warming has had an impact on the fashion industry, with some designer using animal friendly materials and fabrics to connect to their narrative, which is to save the planet.
“Most believe that Covid-19 has validated their predictions that the fashion industry needs to slow down, and fashion brands need to have more of an individual voice.” Vogue 2020

My Personal Emergency Evacuation
About a month ago, my hometown caught on fire. I exaggerate you not that Basalt, Colorado is beyond blessed to still be standing (and may all the Lake Christine firefighters have a special place in heaven for their tireless efforts).
Credit: Robert Parker, Lake Christine
It’s a rather surreal feeling to hear that some of your dearest friends are evacuating their homes in a place that you spent your entire childhood. It’s nearly impossible to not transplant yourself into such a scenario, and it was in this state of empathy that I had a very cathartic realization about my past attachment, and current detachment, from things.
For many years, I used possessions to feel something. I was in a toxic marriage in which I felt anything but loved. Physical touch was a distant part of our relationship. My ex-husband was more concerned about asserting his dominance over me than participating in a symbiotic partnership. But, money, we had money. So, buying things felt good. I could run my fingers over those things and know that they were real. I could put on new clothes and get compliments for those things being new.
My love language is “words of affirmation,” so on a very basic level, I needed those compliments. They were my life jacket in an abyss of deep, dark waters. As a single person, I spent the last three years in constant introspection around what it means to love and to be loved, both for humanity and for myself. I’ve come to a stark realization about the weight that I naturally put on words. I do not take them lightly. If you tell me something, I believe it to the core of my being, and while I’m terrible at accepting compliments, there is something about a compliment that tattoos itself into the soft spaces of my soul. So, words, yes, they are my kryptonite.
Hear me, future significant other. Don’t buy me flowers. They die (seriously, still evaluating how flowers are a sound financial investment). But, tell me I’m smart and pretty, and I’ll be wrapped around your finger.
Some backstory. I spent my 20’s as a high school English teacher and varsity basketball coach, which is (sadly) a rather thankless job. I cannot articulate in enough words what this career did for my personal growth, and I have endless respect for those who are committed to this work, but I was dying. I loved every single kid that ever graced my classroom (okay, there are a couple that I might use a different verb to describe), but even amidst that love, I was becoming a hollow version of myself. So, somewhere on the brink of 30-years-old, I realized that I needed to make choices to initiate change or succumb to living – and eventually dying – inside of my emptiness.
Professionally, I felt like I was living in a vacuum. Personally, I felt like I was living in a prison.
Ultimately, I gained the confidence to leave both the unfulfilling career and marriage (in that order). But, I held on to my love for things through both separations. Because, things give your fingers something to feel when your body is aching to believe that you are not the only person on the planet wallowing in heartbreak.
To be honest, it’s been almost like an out-of-body experience to witness both my obsession with and separation from materialism.
I would argue that I subconsciously learned my way into this state, and that I have also subconsciously learned my way out. I grew up blessed to have access to all the things I ever really wanted, but I only moderately cared about acquiring more stuff. If anything, my obsessions stopped at getting the Jordan XI’s in pink snakeskin and the Adidas Copa Mundials.
When I met my (now) ex-husband, he repeatedly told me how I didn’t have enough style, that he would never want to be with someone who wasn’t into fashion. Yes, that should have been my first clue to abort. But, abort I did not. In my insecurity, I repeatedly believed that my worth was attached to those words. So, I tried endlessly to do enough to obtain this arbitrary status, never really understanding when the finish line would arrive, if at all. But, in the pursuit, I acquired things. So. Many. Things. And, without even realizing it, there I was, sitting in my stuff. Stuff that was making me feel worthy of being loved.
When I found myself living alone again, I slowly started to feel suffocated by my things. The more confident I became in my ability to stand alone, the less I needed a closet full of clothes to masque my lack of confidence.
When I moved from Boise to Sun Valley last winter, I naturally left all of my furniture behind, but I can still pinpoint a very strong connection to certain things to which I attached the pronoun “my.” When I made the decision to move into the Airstream, I became less interested in those things. And, three months into living in the Airstream, I now notice an
Credit: Robert Parker, Basalt, Colorado
even deeper lack of interest. In the process of my initial downsize, I distinctly remember wanting to keep all of my clothes and justifying a reason for nearly every piece of apparel. Yet, I currently wear the same outfits on repeat every week (and, quite frankly, I give zero fucks). Don’t get me wrong, I’m a total snob when it comes to my technical gear, and I really do have a reason for nearly every item that I own in that regard, but when it comes to my everyday life, give me ten pairs of black high-waisted lululemon leggings, some tank tops, and a couple hoodies, and I’m golden.
Fast forward a few more months to the end of July, and when I heard that the Lake Christine Fire was endangering so many people and so many places that I love, I instinctively thought about what so many of my friends were going through who still call this place home. I wondered what it would be like for someone to have a finite amount of time to gather his or her most important material things, load them in the car, and evacuate to safety.
Then, it hit me. This is my current state of existence. I have managed to narrow down the most important things I own into the backseat of my Yukon (hello, snowboard gear) and 100 square feet of an aluminum travel trailer. Yes, I did it out of choice and without danger looming in the background. And, yes, I humbly admit that I had ample time to
Credit: Robert Parker, Lake Christine
evaluate these decisions. In no way can I begin to resonate with the fear that one would feel in a scenario defined by the words “emergency evacuation,” and I’ve had enough conversations with my hometown friends to realize that the terror is truly incomprehensible.
But, nonetheless, here I am. On the other side of my own relative emergency evacuation. Stripped down. With a closet that is probably one-sixteenth the size of my closet from five years ago. And more joy than I thought could possibly fit inside of one human heart.
What I was able to take away from this small sliver of consciousness was my detachment from something, or some things, that used to numb my reality. I had allowed myself to get to a place where I looked in the mirror only to see a shell of my own skin. Then, one morning I woke up to the most authentic version of my being. At some undefined moment. Without any premeditated goal. Unbeknownst to myself. Somewhere along the way, I had changed. Again. Or, back. And, the momentary self-awareness to my transformation allowed my spirit to exhale. My clenched hands relaxed. My shoulders softened. I realized that I could lose everything and feel like nothing less of a human. I, Stephanie Leigh Kemp, didn’t need any of that stuff anymore.
Things. They can be replaced. I love what I have and am lucky to have it, but I am detached from it carrying significant worth.
Extraordinary life experiences. Deep human connections. Honest words spoken from truthful tongues. These are the epicenter of the world that I want to create for myself.
