it turns out that not living in The Actual City was the only thing keeping me from being stereotypically obsessed with trains
#txt#an hour or two ago i was like#‘hey itd be nice to live somewhere with a view of above-ground rail. i wonder where the t and/or the commuter rail run above ground’#now. uh oh#im dkf jfhfbfbdbsgdbf#the orange line goes all the way up to malden!!! and it’s only like a 20-minute subway ride from the terminus to downtown crossing!!#and that’s on the janky ass orange line!!#fuckin. there’s a corridor in south end with an amazing view of multiple tracks#(orange line and the worcester/framingham commuter rail i think)#and it’s close enough to downtown to feel sufficiently urban#but far enough out to be not super duper über-overpriced#(theoretically)#but the whole fuckin thing is monopolized by northeastern university#i legit fucking teared up when i was reading about the history of the green line#i have ridden in the oldest subway tunnel in the country!!!#a majestic graceful elegant old dame.#and it’s. above ground for so long. the places you’ll see!!! the places you’ll go!!!#fjfjndgdjdbcjj no iddhydjddjsjgd.#anyway now my years-old boston map has habitable zones demarcated by sharpie at the stations where a subway/train line surfaces
