you know the tumblr aesthetic houses/aesthetic interiors blogs? the ones that post exclusively unsourced images usually ganked from instagram or pinterest?
ai image generation has taken over that entire corner of tumblr like a parasite, and because i content tag for ai generated images i need to zoom in and squint every fucking time -- but i follow a lot of blogs who talk a big game about being anti-"AI art" and seem to, like. not realize? when they are in fact reblogging ai generated images (i suspect because they look more like photos than like digital paintings or w/e).
anyway here's my set of tips for recognizing ai generated aesthetic house photos on tumblr. we're gonna use this post as an example:
Tumblr media
check the source: on posts by this species of aesthetic photo aggregation blog, there may be some kind of text that purports to be "a source" (in days of yore, sometimes if you googled this you would find some kind of instagram page that itself aggregated stolen image content; occasionally it was even the actual photographer). in our example post the text is "Thierrynuchanant", which might be a street name or a photographer's mononym or an instagram or all manner of other things, but the entire first page of google results was exclusively this tumblr post or reblogs of it, so i feel pretty confident in assuming it's completely made-up.
(this by itself is a weak signal that the image is also completely made-up, but, like... if it ISN'T, it's still a blatantly stolen unsourced photo. but if you're active in this corner of Aesthetic Tumblr i guess you've already made your peace with that.)
inspect the architecture: this particular house makes it tricky because it's purposefully artsy and asymmetric, and how the hell do i know the architect didn't make all the window frames different on purpose? so instead of asymmetry, keep an eye out for misalignments, things that don't make physical sense, or things that are mismatched but look similar from a distance (typically if you are doing something purposefully mismatched, you want to draw attention to the contrast -- so, an all-black outfit with one black sock and one bright green sock is purposeful, but an all-black outfit with one black sock and one dark gray sock looks like you made some sort of laundry error).
Tumblr media
what the fuck is this pointy archway thing that's only on one half of the window? where does it attach?
these lit-up yellow windows look like really fancy and decorative leaded glass (i mean, i *think*; the image is blurry enough that it's hard to tell), so it's weird that they look similar in color but the left one has a diamond-ish pattern and the right one has vaguely gothic arching tracery that is replicated NOWHERE else in the house
the windowsill looks lumpy and, uh, irradiated, and the planterboxes are at two different heights. also come to mention it how are the planterboxes even attached to the thick stone sill?
Tumblr media
why are there two slightly different styles of lamp thing at two different heights
Tumblr media
windowpanes crooked??? also if you squint the stonework on the window frame doesn't actually make sense or depict anything
Tumblr media
this mostly-hidden rectangular architectural mass seems to switch from modern with rectangular windowpanes on the left to elaborate tracery on the right, and the angles don't quite match up either. (i also spent a while squinting at that inverted nipple thing to the right of the round window but like, i don't know a hell of a lot about french art nouveau vernacular architecture, maybe it's... a disused utility hookup???)
plants that aren't in pots: this is the dead giveaway. ai generated images LOVE to have non-climbing plants just vibing on the side of a building.
Tumblr media
this is not a fucking epiphyte it needs DIRT SOMEWHERE
okay now i gotta hunt down another example image so i can provide examples of mangled text and maybe mismatched architectural details in other styles. brb

A correction on Karasuma’s career
(...And Takaoka’s too I guess)
A fandom wiki can be a fickle thing. Sometimes helpful. Sometimes, straight up misinformation. Some time ago, I woke up in the middle of the night, pondering something about a character’s past that I immediately needed to check- as one is bound to do when they should be asleep. Said character? Karasuma Tadaomi of Assassination Classroom (as some mutuals will have cleverly guessed from the title). ...Except. Something was wrong. I’m not talking about his description as a ‘handsome young man’, because it’s supposed to be true within canon (despite visual evidence to the contrary). I’m talking about facts that are harder to disprove just by a glance- especially since the source isn’t written. “I’m... pretty sure Karasuma never was in the Air Force, that doesn’t sounds right.” “Warrant Officer? ‘According to the manga, Karasuma’s dress during his career-’ where. Which panel is it and where can I compare it to an actual uniform.” “Uh, Takaoka’s profile doesn’t help much more. ‘Takaoka and Karasuma were in the same squad in the military but were in different sections.’ That’s not possible, as a squad is part of a section. And unsourced too.”
So. Even though I don’t participate in the fandom. I had to do something. Edit the wiki? Well I don’t know if I need permission to do that, so no. But, there’s something much easier I can do, one thing I’m pretty used to. Complain about it on Tumblr!
So, I looked up what I could. The official French translation, the English scans. His Graduation Album’s profile just in case, though it was unhelpful. Hunted down his tankobon’s profile, and, bingo, a career path! ...With a few differences from the French translation. Hmm. At this point I would need to look at the raws. Thankfully, I do have Roll Book Time, in paper format, a gift of years ago from my good friend and sweetheart. Unfortunately, I don’t actually read Japanese- but as if that stopped me in the past! By now I’m an expert at painfully looking over radicals to search for accurate kanji on jisho.org, one at a time. It’s long and tedious and in the end I still rely on Google Translate, but at least I’m going somewhere. So, without further ado! Let me show you what I’ve got!
Tumblr media
[Alt: Photo of a half page from the Roll Book, describing Karasuma’s career. The text is in Japanese, and illustrated by two panels from the manga. One shows Karasuma in camo uniform training recruits, the other shows him at the start of the manga, presenting himself to the 3-E. ] For those of you who wants to read the Japanese text, but it is too small or the pic isn’t showing, here the transcription:
As for some sort of translation, here’s a little something to get the gist of it, but don’t consider this as a totally accurate translation.
Karasuma-sensei’s background file Enrolled in the Self-defence Forces Assigned to the 1st Airborne Brigade In the SDF’s 1st Airborne Brigade, his talent was unmatched. His talent as an instructor was also remarkable. Transferred to the Defense Intelligence Office He had been active as an intelligence agent who collects and analyses military and political information in other countries. His office ability is also top notch. Temporary transferred to the Special Services Office Due to his past results, he was brought into the Special Affairs Department. He works with the monitoring / assassination of the “destructive creature”, and teaches his technique to Class E.
So, the first point of this. The Japanese Self-defence Force (which I will abbreviate in JSDF) is, like most if not all armies, divided into ground, air and naval forces. You would think the 1st Airborne Brigade is part of the Japan Air SDF, since there’s ‘airborne’ in the name. And you would be wrong! It is part of the Japan Ground SDF, and my, what a part it is. They’re considered among the toughest soldiers of the JGSDF, deserving of their “The Matchless Elite Second To None” motto. While the JSDF are supposedly defensive, as the name said, for legal reasons (they technically can’t call themselves an army because Japan can’t have one), this brigade is considered as one of the few with an offensive capability. Yeah, fitting for Karasuma! (And yes, this means Takaoka has been part of it too. Which... kinda explains why he underestimated Nagisa so much. If you’ve been in an elite troop for years, you can let a scrawny teenager with a knife get closer to you a few steps further, just to prove a point.) Then, we have what the tankobon profile’s translator chooses to translate as “Information Bureau”, but I choose Defense Intelligence Office. You see, the original text was 情報部. Now, Matsui has been known to slightly modify the name of actual places/schools rather than reference the actual thing (dunno if he’s required to do it or it’s a personal choice). And, if you take 部 (office, bureau, department- I prefer ‘office’ since it’s found in the translation for some Ministry of Defense’s extraordinary organs) and add 本 to make 本部 (headquarters), you get 情報本部, which is the Japanese name of the Defense Intelligence Headquarters! Which is still part of the Ministry of Defense, so it makes sense the transfer could be done. (As for Takaoka- The first page of chapter 38 shows us a shadowed Takaoka, with his chief going ‘It’s a hidden ball trick, courtesy of our Information Bureau’. So I guess it’s either a natural advancement career, either he followed Karasuma there, or this guy has the worst of luck.) Finally- Special Services Office- or Division, as per the English scans. But the tankobon profile translation talks about ‘Special Forces’? Well, I can disprove that. The Special Forces Group of JGSDF is 特殊作戦群 in Japanese. Meanwhile, 特務部 is... nowhere close from that, except there’s 特(special) in their names. Furthermore, we do have an 部 again at the end, which implies an office/department/division/etc. Given the explanation in Karasuma’s profile, I would assume this office was created specifically to deal with Korosensei, and various agents were transferred to it temporarily? Notably, Karasuma and Takaoka. --
Now, that solves it for the Air Force misunderstanding. What about Karasuma’s rank, though? The fandom wiki mentions his uniform in the manga. Which turns out to be one panel. It... makes sense, since Karasuma is no longer part of the JSDF, having transferred, and so wouldn’t be able to use a military uniform on important events ; the French translation of Karasuma’s chief’s words in his flashback from chapter 38 even says “After you abandoned your military uniform [...]”. What is this famous panel, then?
Tumblr media
...Well, that’s going to be tricky. We don’t have a view of the arms themselves, though he doesn’t seem to have a patch. Then we have the notch lapel insignia, but those meant for rank are put on the upper notch- the lower notch is for the branch of service, from what I gathered in photos. (And I mean, it would be ridiculous as a rank insignia- it seems to have three dots in a triangle, so either a captain or a colonel, can you imagine this, a colonel? A guy in mid-twenties? Ridiculous) What about the shoulders, then? Well. Let me tell you a thing. ...Finding things about Japanese formal dress military uniforms is super annoying. US uniforms? Sure, no problem. French uniforms? If you type in French, sure. Japanese Uniforms? Oh, did you mean WWII Imperial Army uniform? No? You’re sure? Because this is what you will get. Oh, sure, Wikipedia has a page on the ranks and insignia of the JSDF. But it doesn’t seem to account for those formal epaulets, which are only used in ceremonies. But! There’s a silver lining! Typing 陸自 儀礼肩章 (JGSDF formal epaulets) in a pic search, we can then click on the ones that interest us and look for the grade. (Though, some of them seem to come from Yahoo Auction, and are unavailable to me). So, on our manga panel, we have three dots on the knot, plus a little one at the end to pin it to the uniform.
Tumblr media
Something like this. Now those specific ceremonial shoulder insignia are for a 一等陸佐 (or 1等陸佐), which correspond in the US Army to... uh. Hm. Wait. Let me check. Gotta be a mistake. He can’t be a colonel.
Tumblr media
...A bit smaller but that will do. Notice how the knots have one less... wire? Thread? Look, I’ve put way too much energy into this post to start worrying about words. Anyway, the number of stars might be the same, but the whole epaulet is different. And we even have the less formal insignias on the side! Those are for a 1等陸尉, which corresponds to... Captain. ...No, seriously. I mean, you can check on other sources if you want. Wikimedia even has this photo if you don’t believe me.) As for Takaoka (as well as every man present in the panel), it’s small but you can see two stars on his shoulders, so he has the grade just below- 2等陸尉, which corresponds to first lieutenant. But hey, maybe Matsui and his assistants took a random uniform as reference! You know, the anime tends to have interesting background details in the classroom, so maybe they would also have been careful with this!
Tumblr media
...Ah, yeah, not really. What about Takaoka?
Tumblr media
...Well. Not very helpful either. It does show us he has the service ribbon for the Medal with Blue Ribbon, a Japanese medal of honour awarded to individuals who have made significant achievements in the areas of public welfare or public service. As for the weird infinity sign- this pin badge is likely the same as Karasuma’s in the manga, which is not quite clear on the scan, but I can confirm on the tankobon that it’s the Ranger Courses pin badge. The fact it is golden means he specifically completed the Fuji School one, which is needed to be a course instructor or an officer. ...So, I have no idea where this Warrant Officer rank came from. It would make more sense, but it seems like somehow, Karasuma reached captain rank. Despite being in his mid-twenties (he’s 28 by the time of the manga, which is to say, after he spent time at the Defense Intelligence Office). Seriously, is it too much to ask for a bit of realism in my supersonic giant yellow octopus manga? ...One mystery remains, though. ...Where the hell did Karasuma find the time to get a valid teaching license? Because he does tell Gakuhô he has one early on, and being an instructor for military recruits certainly doesn’t require the same license as to teach middle-schoolers. Did he get a special rush training between the time Korosensei said he would be 3-E’s teacher and whenever chapter 3 happens? Or did he just happen to have one before? He probably entered the JSDF as soon as he got the minimum age, so I can’t see how. Matsui please show us your notes.

What is a dog? This question is a rhetorical one, and not referring to the species, or its evolutionary origin. What purpose do dogs serve in our lives? What do they mean to us, and why do we own them? With some exceptions, the vast majority of dogs are pets: we seek them out for companionship, to be part of our homes and families. We take them into the world to enjoy it with us, are used to seeing them out and about, and generally expect the pet dogs we meet to be friendly and reasonably safe to be around.
The American Kennel Club recognizes 190 different dog breeds. Worldwide, this number climbs to 360. After approximately 30,000 years of domestication and deliberate breeding, humans have created affectionate dogs, independent ones, energetic dogs, couch potatoes; dogs with long hair, short hair, big or small; dogs for hunting, for protection, for companionship, for herding; dogs in almost any color conceivable. In recent years, however, the handful of breeds known commonly as “pit bulls” or “bully breeds” have taken off in popularity, due in large part to attempts by fanciers to rehabilitate the breeds' negative image. They have largely had success in proclaiming these perceptions to be a result of myths and misunderstanding. Most of the arguments supporting and defending pit bulls – and, unfortunately, those most easily found when searching online – come from sites limited in credentials and heavy on bias such as “Love-A-Bull,” “Bully Blood,” and “American Bully Lover.” Their claims are commonly either unsourced, or anecdotal. Stories about sweet pit bulls named Bubbles and Cupcake and cute photos of pit bulls in tutus don't change statistics and history any more than the proud boast “I always drive without a seatbelt and I'm fine” does. Stories don't trump statistics.
Rare is the person who hasn't heard one or another of these genre of myths. That pit bulls were nanny dogs; that they're sweethearts unless they're abused, and they're only mean when they're taught to fight; that it's all in how you raise them. While no breed has a monopoly on aggression, and pit bulls are certainly no monolith of cartoonish, foaming-at-the-mouth viciousness, it is shortsighted to pretend they're something they're not.
Tumblr media
What is not pictured here is a vile dog fighter hard at work abusing her innocent pit bulls.
Though many sincerely believe the breed was once used as a gentle, affectionate babysitter, as it turns out there is zero evidence for this in any historical text until a 1971 New York Times article, where the phrase “nursemaid dog” was used by the editor of the magazine of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of the United States of America. Hardly an unprejudiced source. The truth is, pit bulls were always bred and intended for fighting. No dog is or was a nanny breed, but if there was one, bullies would be floating somewhere at the bottom of the list.
Tumblr media
Perhaps a nanny alligator.
When bull- and bear-baiting faded in popularity in the mid-19th century – the former due to British legislation against animal cruelty, the later to sheer scarcity – those keen on blood sports pivoted to fighting dogs against each other, breeding them for tenacity, agility, and an unwillingness to give up. The American Kennel Club categorizes dogs into seven groups based on breed origin, and pit bull breeds belong to the terrier class. The AKC recognizes the inherent feisty and stubborn nature of terriers, traits that can be managed by a dedicated and knowledgeable owner, and are also somewhat mitigated by the small scale of most terriers. However, when these traits are combined with pitbulls' size and muscularity - and, more importantly, their specifically-bred instinct to fight - this makes for a dangerous combination. We recognize and accept that herding breeds have the instinct to herd, pointers lift one paw and point without having to be taught, breeds cultivated for companionship want to be close to their owners, and retrievers like to – you guessed it – retrieve. How does this common sense logic vanish when it comes to bullies?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These bullies clearly aren't being sold for companionship, home defense, or herding.
Pit bulls are reportedly responsible for 22.5% of bites, and the CDC reported that from 1979 to 1998, pit bulls were involved in the most fatal dogs attacks, the the culprit of 28% of deaths. Dog fighters overwhelmingly and near exclusively used (and continue to use) this breed, rather than golden retrievers or border collies. If any dog is dangerous when mistreated, why don't we regularly see news reports of greyhounds and poodles mauling infants, children, and the elderly? What reason would there be for sensationalizing and smearing one dog breed at random?
It's a common refrain when these attacks happen: “He snapped out of nowhere.” “I don't understand, we've had her since a puppy.” “He just wouldn't let go.” “She's never done anything like this before.” In the overwhelming majority of cases, the owners were not abusive, were not cruelly provoking the dog to violence, and were not trying to start up an illicit dog fighting ring. Their only crime was believing the half-truths and feel-good stories peddled by pit bull defenders or well-intentioned rescue organizations.
Tumblr media
A pit bull charging across a parking lot to attack a child unprovoked. Perhaps it only meant to enthusiastically nanny her?
Naturally, those have only known pit bulls to be normal, friendly dogs might become defensive at the breed being labeled dangerous. Perhaps a better word would be risky. Many of us consider dogs to be family, but we mustn't forget that they are still animals, with behaviors and traits that have been selected for and cultivated by breeders for generations. Those actively promoting these risky breeds are ignorant at best, and deliberately disingenuous at worst. Though any dog can bite, it is abundantly clear that those bred for stable temperaments, for companionship, and to work alongside humans are a far lower risk than a dog deliberately created for violence. Dogs should be companions, not ticking time bombs. There is nothing a pit bull has to offer that can't be found in a safer, more manageable breed actually intended for family ownership.

Aladar (animatronic)
Aladar is a majestic animatronic iguanodon, modelled off of the same character appearing in the movie “Dinosaur”. I love him very much <3 He was originally meant to be a dragon, but Michael Eisner decided that it would be better to use the opportunity of creating an animatronic reptile as a means of lining up with the promotion of Disney’s latest film, Dinosaur. There is now a statue of Aladar outside of the Disney ride also titled after the film, although this was not put in until animatronic Aladar was removed. The dinosaur ride was previously titled “Countdown to Extinction” but was changed to Dinosaur to attract more guests with the release of the film in 2000. The Aladar animatronic was supposed to have “escaped” from the Countdown to Extinction ride, explaining his presence near the shores of Dinoland USA. He is one of my personal favourite AAs, despite the relatively low amount of lore he brings with him. He’s just a wonderful little boy, playing in the water.
Tumblr media
Here’s my quick fact file
Debut: Just after April 22, 1998 (i don’t know the exact date he was put in, but the discovery river boat ride operated at animal kingdom from day one; however Aladar was not put in until slightly after due to not being completely finished)
Withdrawal: November, 1998
Attraction: Discovery River Boats (renamed to Discovery River Taxi in November 1998 and then Radio Disney River Cruise in March 1999)
Locations: Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Area: Lake Bueno Vista, near Dinoland USA
Him in Action:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiRaMMDX8XU
Versions: There’s just one of him, a large A100 audio animatronic
Aladar is the most expensive (and by far coolest) part of the Discovery River Boats “ride”. I put the word ride in parentheses, as that is a major upselling of what the attraction actually was. Funnily enough, that is the main reason the attraction closed. It was primarily intended as a transportation/attraction from one end of the park from the other, with a docking point each at Discovery Island and Asia. However, it was initially marketed solely as an attraction. It was meant to travel past all the segments of the park, providing a glimpse into each. However, the boats were slow, hot and cumbersome, with almost all of the scenery passed being well.. boring. This caused great levels of disappointment in guests, who after queuing up for 1+ hours were put on a glorified shuttle to the other end of the park. They were expecting something like the jungle cruise, and were greeted with a worse safari themed version of something not dissimilar to Epcots friendship boats. In November of it’s opening year, the name was changed to Discovery River Taxi and Aladar was removed as he was very expensive to maintain. The cruise was drastically shortened to emphasise that it was a transportation service.
And now, his fate. Aladar disappeared from public conscience for a couple of years when he was removed in 1998. However, his desecrated corpse was relocated at some point before 2002, where he showed up at the Disneyland Paris studio tram tour opening, on March 16, 2002. In 2009, the tram tour route was shortened and he was cut out of it. I do not know if he was previously removed before that point, early YouTube videos of the ride have a very annoying habit of switching to look out the other side of the tram just before he is meant to appear. Like yeah, I’m certain those blue wooden boxes are more interesting than dinosaur parts :/ He was left in a depressingly decaying state, so it is somewhat unlikely that he made it to the archives. You can see him here, in about 2002.
There is not much more information on Aladar, but I will provide links to more general information about the Discovery River Boats, the “Countdown to Extinction” attraction and also a brief lot of photos. Thanks for reading!
(brief information on what the discovery river boats were meant to be)
(video of the “Dinosaur ride)
(The original attraction page for “Dinosaur”)
Unfortunately it is very difficult to find actual sources for information on Countdown to Extinction, but the Wikipedia article on the ride provides plenty of unsourced information.
Also, unfortunately, since Aladar was active only for a short period of time in the late 90’s, it’s hard to find good photos of him.

“Adam Douglas Driver... has Dutch, English, German, Irish, and Scottish ancestry. His father's family is from Arkansas and his mother’s family is from Indiana.” i’m... screaming?? where does that reylo therapist get off with saying adams a poc??
literally their "evidence" is a racist bigoted director driver worked with who was apparently like, "you seem kinda wise, are you a jew," to which driver answered no but then at some point alluded to an undisclosed amount of native american lineage [src], which is a WHOLE lotta worms to unpack in terms of ppl deciding personality traits or behaviors are racially tied + how driver fans used to consistently decide his big ass face & big nose made him "look jewish," some of whom are now doing the same thing but saying he "looks native," but with extra creepy noble savage fetishization on top.
and their other "evidence" was an unsourced photo allegedly of driver's biological father, as proof of how "ethnic" he is & how dark his dad is supposed to be (when tbh on top of it possibly not being his dad... and that white ppl CAN also look like that... it's a low quality photo with bad lighting & worse contrast/white-balance and black-point lol like even if it's not photoshopped to be this bad it's not a usable photo to accurately determine skintone, or even definitively determine hair color beyond "dark"), with the bonus that if you do a google reverse image search, it only turns up reylo pinterests and nasty /pol posts with 4channers using the image to— same as the people above deciding his features look "ethnic" bc they like them/want him to be "exotic"— decide his features look "ethnic" bc they DON'T like them/want to call him a "mongrel" as an example of how "ugly" they perceive mixed people to be.
double bonus, 4chan is no stranger to digging through people's private social media, either, so the source more than likely is someone's profile picture who may or may not even be adam driver's dad if they found someone with the same name.
meanwhile, here's four whole separate times adam driver specifically said, "I'm white," but the people banging loudest on this dummy drum aren't gonna let a little thing like facts get in the way of indulging in a full tilt racial/raceplay fetish that would be gross even if it wasn't FACTUALLY OBJECTIVELY misaimed at a literal fucking white man.
all of which is besides the fact that the person spearheading these cockamamie ideas seems to be either genuinely 100% wacked out or a serial liar or both, so in a just logical world all this should never have seen the light of day, but this is the world we live in & y'all, such is life.

So I’ve been trying to reblog more artwork/photographs that were either posted by the original creator or gives proper credit to the original creator and less artwork/photographs that were posted without crediting the original creator. This is for a couple of reasons...
First, it really pisses me off when I see nice art that makes me think “I’d love to see more from this artist” only to realize that there’s no source so I can’t even tell who the artist is. And reverse image searching doesn’t help most of the time. So that really sucks.
Second, I just feel guilty whenever I reblog unsourced shit. Not trying to come off as some do good, pretentious kiss-ass or anything but I honestly really feel for artists/photographers who put all their effort into creating their work only to have it stolen by someone else and not given any of the credit for it. This happened to a friend of mine recently and seeing how much it upset her made me understand why it’s such a big deal.
So I’m gonna try to reblog less unsourced art/photos unless I happen to really really like it. I don’t want to give people who post unsourced shit too much attention. Also, whenever I reblog a sourced post, I will always put the artist’s name as the first tag. This is partially because I’m obsessed with organization/tagging things and partially because it might make it easier for people to figure out who the artist is.
Okay thanks for reading all that. Sorry for the long post. Back to your regularly scheduled neon content :)

The Picasa for Mac is a Google Labs release. There is also a standalone Picasa Web Albums uploading tools for OS X 10.4 or later. Also, a plugin is available for iPhoto to upload to the Picasa Web Albums hosting service. On January 5, 2009, Google released a beta version of Picasa for Mac (Intel-based Macs only). Linux users can use other programs to upload to Picasa Web Albums, including Shotwell and Digikam. To use latest version of Picasa on Linux, Linux users can use Wine and install Picasa for Windows. On April 20, 2012, Google announced that they were deprecating Picasa for Linux and will no longer maintain it for Linux. Currently, Google has only officially offered Picasa 3.0 Beta for Linux. Google has announced that there will be no Linux version for 3.5. It is not a native Linux program but an adapted Windows version that uses the Wine libraries. Since June 2006, Linux versions have become available as freeloads for most distributions of the Linux operating system. KDE Image Plugin Interface (KIPI) export to Picasaweb Picasa Web Albums, a companion service, was closed on May 1, 2016. On February 12, 2016, Google announced it was discontinuing support for Picasa Desktop and Picasa Web Albums, effective March 15, 2016, and focusing on the cloud-based Google Photos as its successor. In July 2004, Google acquired Picasa from Lifescape and began offering it as freeware.

An iPhoto plugin and a standalone program for uploading photos were available for Mac OS X 10.4 and later. Native applications for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and macOS were available, and for Linux, the Windows version was bundled with Wine compatibility layer. "Picasa" is a blend of the name of Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, the phrase mi casa (Spanish for "my house") and "pic" for pictures. Picasa was a cross-platform image organizer and image viewer for organizing and editing digital photos, integrated with a now defunct photo-sharing website, originally created by a company named Lifescape (which at that time was incubated by Idealab) in 2002.

Uncredited Reposting Hurts, You Guys
I just did something that I simultaneously kind of regret but also did not regret at all.
I’ve always been more of a consumer rather than a content creator in fandom, mostly because I don’t nearly have enough talent to be writing fanfiction, or making fanart, and I don’t go to cons often enough to be a consistent documenter of the thing. AHBL8 was kind of the exception because for the first time, I splurged out on really excellent seating and I had a proper camera.  I had photos and videos that I posted, which didn’t exactly go “viral” in the grand scheme of things, but a hundred notes is a lot for me.  I’ve also been more active on twitter lately, but during AHBL8, I mostly used that as like an advertisement of sorts that links to my tumblr where I post the majority of my media (writings, photos, videos).
Reposting uncredited media has always been the cancer of the internet, especially with things like pinterest and weheartit.  I have a sideblog specifically for reblogging fanart and I always try to make sure the source is there.  When I find something unsourced, I try to reverse google image it first and link to it, but sometimes I can’t find it, and in those cases I opt to just not post it at all.  I never really thought crediting was a huge deal, but I did it anyway out of appreciation for creators who have spoken out against it and I respect their wishes. But what I mean about it not being a big deal to me, is that whenever I see uncredited reposts, I never felt compelled to call them out.  I never reblogged/retweeted it and exacerbate the problem, but I just went on my merry way ignoring it as I scroll past.
Boy howdy.
So a few weeks back I followed a twitter account that posts daily pictures of Jensen and I didn’t give it much thought.  I’ve never retweeted anything from them, but I just thought they spruced up my timeline with nice sprinklings of Jensen’s face.  It wasn’t until they reposted two photos of mine, with watermarks cropped off, no credit, that I noticed that basically every photo they posted were uncredited and unwatermarked, presumably cropped off.  Shit, that hurt.
I posted those photos on twitter the day before.  I don’t have many followers at all, but some of my mutuals are pretty popular so maybe I thought it would get out there.  I only got 1 RT, but no big deal.  It’s not like the photos were great anyway; they were my 2nd wave photos that I posted out of boredom.  The 1st wave ones, the ones I thought were really good, were already out there back in May right after AHBL8.  I also noticed the photos were a bit dark and washed out, so I edited them a bit, and posted it on tumblr with tags on.  Then it gained traction.  I think it was reblogged by someone with a lot of followers because after this particular person, the notes sped up.  And I think at this point is where this twitter account picked it up, because they posted the edited version of those photos that I put up on tumblr.
I was restless all day. It hurt.  Like I was unprepared by how much it hurt.  Imagining someone saving that photo, looking at my name on it and deciding that made it look ugly, cropped it out, then posted it up for their ten thousand plus followers.  As of this moment, it has 174 RTs and 340 likes, while my original twitter post has exacty 1 RT and 1 like.  I called them out this morning and showed them my original photos when they only had about 100 RTs, but they didn’t exactly care, and I guess neither did the 50+ people who RT’d it even after I pointed it out.  Every one of those RTs was like a kick in the gut.
Look, I’m not a notification whore.  As much as it pleases me to see people interacting with me, I don’t need them to tag me by handle.  They could even crop my watermark if they wanted, I understand if they think it’s ugly. A little crop job is editing and that is work and effort, I guess?  But maybe link it back?  Make it so that it’s easy for people who want to see more to find it.  I have a lot more photos where they came from and I’m more than happy to share.
And it’s not like people haven’t done it before.  I’ve found people cropping my stuff left and right because they want a closer look at certain parts, and it sacrifices my watermark, but I didn’t mind it as much because they posted the link to my blog, or mentioned me by name even if it wasn’t tagged.  Like I think it’s just the polite thing to do.  I’m not after my phone blowing up, what I want is just manners I guess.
I didn’t know what to do. It’s so dumb right.  Like I’m such an amateur photographer, this was legitimately my first time with a “proper” camera and I am so far out of the leagues of all these other con photographers, I might as well be on Mars.  Seems pretty presumptuous to be making so much noise, like maybe I should just be grateful people are even looking at my stuff even though they don’t know who did it.  But it was bothering me so much, I couldn’t let it go.  I couldn’t get anything done that day.  I tried spreading the word about it, but I’m just a nobody.  I legitimately had nightmares with how much it was upsetting me.
In the end, I couldn’t take it anymore.  I talked to someone about it.  Someone who had three times the amount of followers than me (and even then, it’s not much in the grand scheme of things), someone I’ve talked to before and did a tiny favor for, and someone who I knew had spoken out about stuff like this before and felt strongly about it and was likely to support me.  I hope I didn’t come off as needy and pitiful but she offered to speak out about it which got the attention of a few people.
Look, I didn’t expect to change the world.  I didn’t even expect for anything to change with that particular twitter account since apparently that’s their usual MO since ever.  But thanks to her, a good handful of people now know about it and I don’t feel so alone anymore, yelling uselessly into the void.  I’m a pretty jaded person, I know shit like this happens and I’m just a small, untalented blip in the grand scheme of things.  But just knowing some people are still there and they know me and they see me, it still means a lot to me.
I do take the uncredited reposting issue a lot more seriously now and I likely will try to speak out about it a bit more rather than just scrolling past like it’s not my problem.
UPDATE: they finally credited my photos. I don't know if it was from the pressure from my friend getting the word out or what. They replied to their own post and tagged my twitter handle. I thanked them for it. Probably a little tersely, but whatever. I'm glad i spoke up. That niggling voice in my head is still berating me for being such a noisy brat. But i think this is important and that i did the right thing. Speaking up is important.
