Oh ho ho the father's opinion on his child. I will 100% preface this with the fact Junior is the only person Flameheart has decided "you know what, on second thought" fully conscious about such decision. He loves his child, even if he is terrible at expressing it properly.

As said before, the thought of being a father never passed Flameheart's mind. Never liked kids, never got along with somebody enough to even think about having kids of his own. Call it something of his intuition that he decided to take Junior under his wing rather than let the poor little guy sink with the ship. He really does see Junior as his child and his legacy. Truthfully Flameheart was a bit cautious about Junior during the first while of being back in the Sea ( before physically being there ) considering they were trained by Wanda who turned traitor when Flameheart himself showed no interest in her advances. It had been 8 years since he had seen his child, so many things could have changed. That does change the more time he spends with Junior for plans with the Reapers or Servants of the Flame, and even just chilling in the Reaper's Hideout. It can be hard for Flameheart since he is very focused on taking over the Sea, but as said before as well, he is quite proud of everything that has been accomplished since Junior arrived in the Sea of Thieves. The creation of the Reaper's Bones + hideout ( also the extra fuck you to Rasmey's followers using the remains of Merrick's ship to build the Reaper's Hideout. Petty and Flameheart absolutely loves that ), creating the Servants of the Flame faction, assisting in the return of the Ashen Lords, all the effort put in to resurrect him. Sometimes he still sees that young kid getting excited to see him return from a voyage, excited to hear the tales and then the strong willed and quick witted adult they became. Of course, being the fiery, brutal pirate king, that isn't going to be expressed verbally to Junior. Being in touch with his own emotions and admitting such things? Nah, that ain't his style.
