God, we all love Leo so much, don’t we? We’re still heartbroken and wishing that this was all a bad dream that we’d wake up from soon, but that reception when Leo got from PSG fans was unreal. I disagree vehemetly with anyone who says that cules took Leo for granted; if you’ve ever watched more than a few Barça matches, you’d know that’s simply not true. There’s few things more breathtaking than Camp Nou sing Leo’s name with awe and devotion.
But there’s something special about this too. No one wanted to see Leo leave, but part of our frustration over the past several years had to do with how we were wasting Leo’s last years and...there’s this collective hope and optimism that maybe, just maybe, Leo will get to see just how much he means to the world beyond just cules and he’ll be able to play without being sad, worried, unhappy, and stressed by the situation at Barça. As a friend said, he looked like a little kid who didn’t know what to do with that outpouring of love and part of that is because he’s Leo. He’s shy and he sometimes doesn’t know how to take such an ardent display of affection. But you can also tell how surprised he was and...I think we want that, like we desperately wanted him to win Copa America this year and were ecstatic when he did. We just want him to be happy and free of worry. We just want him to focus on playing without anything burdening him, to have a few years like that.
It won’t be with us and that hurts more than anything, but we’re not good for him right now. Maybe he can have that elsewhere while we work on recovering and maybe one day we’ll see him back with us, whether it’s as a player or something else (but god, do I want him back as a player at least for one last time before he retires because it’s only right).
We all love him and it goes beyond club and country loyalties. We just love him so much and want the best for him.
