i wasn't myself during my kpop phase. literally out of my mind
#let's blame the pandemic#(half-serious)#i still enjoy a lot of songs and think there are plenty of amazing performers in kpop#but the way the subtle marketing strategies of that industry get you addicted and the way that they get fans to#basically do lots of that 'marketing work' themselves by creating endless fan content#which centers around the 'personalities' and 'dynamics' of the band members +also cultivating a 'family' vibe between idols/fans#the parasocial bond between idol groups and their fans is the backbone of the industry's marketing strategies#which i feel is obvious but i just need to spell this out for myself#and it's crazy how by making their owncontent and cultivating online communities the fans are literally carrying the careers of those group#it's cult-like#i know it's in the nature of fandom but kpop fandom is on a whole other level#anway post kpop fan clarity#(just had to think of this as i stumbled upon that jimin pope francis post again)#personal
