oh oh that is a fun one... because there's hildegarde but there's also hildegarde's azem, lachesis. so plenty of first impressions to go around especially with how i go about the relationship btwn hildegarde & lachesis... umm. putting this under a read more because. as always. i yap. sparing people's dashes

back in ye olde amaurot lachesis' first impression of hades was. hearing about this "magical prodigy". himself, equally prideful & desperate to prove himself (they were both like. teens. around that time), decided that Well, i'm gonna show everyone what's what!

& so hades' first impression of lachesis was this complete stranger blowing him up alongside some individuals who were giving him trouble. lachesis then patched all of them up (to prove exactly how capable he was) (there are many insecurities involved in whatever he's got going on yea.) & they had their first actual conversation then. hades thought lachesis was pretty vainglorious meanwhile lachesis found him to be reaaally disappointing for someone known to be a genius of magic or whatever. but also he was easy to piss off & when you're starved for any kind of attention like lachesis... well. hades got himself a guy glued to him real quick that's for sure.

they did end up growing to get along fairly rapidly due to both their complainer natures... lachesis is a bit of a goss & hades is the unsundered world's original tsundere so they were bound to bond. lachesis pranked him a bunch too but that's obviously fine & okay. there were also times he was more vulnerable around hades (who did not necessarily reciprocate at first, but him allowing lachesis to be vulnerable at all rather than pushing him away & ignoring him was already a sign of them growing closer) which... yeah. hades proved to have a kind heart through all their bickering. he wouldnt be a good ear for just anybody but lachesis was one of his exceptions. he was weird but he was also his friend so it was ok. & that kind heart of his has absolutely captivated lachesis body & soul 👍 IT DID TAKE SOME YEARS but also they have ancient lifespans what is ten years to acknowledge & express one's feelings in a lifetime... (hythlodaeus tried so hard. to help. god he tried. it sorta worked on hades' end but w lachesis it was very much a moment of "oh! so i'm in love with him!" "yes...! that is what i have been getting at for the past seven years but i'm glad you came to that conclusion on your own. if a bit late" "haha than- what do you mean seven years") notably though even if they acknowledged their own feelings they didn't say anything. they just. got closer. & closer. got more intimate even. never brought it up after it happened but it also kept happening. staying over at each other's place & cuddling & nearly kissing but not quite. even started sharing a living space for practicality eventually. shared a bed more often than not despite both having a bed of their own. yeah.

the catalyst for them ☝️ to actually confess to anything though was uh. to be quite honest? lachesis doing really really bad. (#justlikemeforreal) it was to the point he could not speak & was just real frantic & freaked out visibly panicking & sobbing & there just wasn't much hades could Actually do to get through to him because um i do not think they had known grounding methods back in amaurot it looks like their understanding of emotions & mental illness is extremely limited at best so try as he might... uh. well the only thing he could think of was soul bonding. & so they did 🎉 & got to pretty much know the other inside out. most importantly the fact they were both willing to soul bond with each other (with it being incredibly vulnerable for lachesis considering the state he was in at the time) showed how much they were willing to share with each other. & that was when they got together pretty much. sharing in each other's minds also allowed for lachesis to regain some much needed calmness, & they managed to have an Actual Conversation afterwards. this also means hades was made aware of lachesis' plurality, something that wasn't quite explainable for either of them really, but well. it explained Some Things. & it meant a lot to lachesis that experiencing for himself just how messy of a person lachesis considered himself to be did not deter hades from being by his side. yeagh. good lird i haven't even touched on hildegarde specifically yet i am so cooked OKAY!!

as for. well. hildegarde specifically. emet was. ahhh. well. he's the architect of the empire he was raised in. the one that ingrained very very unhealthy mindsets in him (not that hilde was particularly self-aware at the time, certainly not enough to blame solus). meeting with the empire's founder was chilling, but admittedly he did have some bigger concerns at the time, like being very worried about the similarities between the sin eaters' attacks & his own... his gut reaction wasn't hatred. there was a lot of morbid curiosity there, without even speaking of that weird feeling of... something he couldn't place. a sort of familiarity? but very muted. he brushed it off as emet being solus so of course he'd feel familiar to a degree considering hilde grew up in garlemald. but. no real hatred. even if realistically anyone in their right mind would've defaulted to that. hildegarde was always #freaky

emet did not quite fancy hildegarde initially. which. ! yeppp that's the guy who divorced him badly's soul colour alright! & god he fucking looks just like him too! but he's considerably weaker & not an ancient! part of him had always resented any lachesis shards he'd come across for "taking away" someone he cared about, but at the same time... especially in hildegarde's case. looks exactly like lachesis if lachesis had scales & horns. it really fucked him up. i guess you could say the first impression was every emotion he could possibly feel all at once. grief, sorrow, the joy of seeing his face again, the rage of seeing his soul colour so diluted & weak compared to how bright it used to be, shock too at the realisation of who would be his greatest foe yet ; & an insurmountable amount of guilt mixed with disgust, what with hildegarde being so much more overtly miserable than lachesis had ever been. so easy to break comparatively. & knowing part of it is, directly or indirectly, his fault weighed on him regardless of how much he wanted to not care. hilde was just a huge reminder of everything he'd lost & zodiark's tempering twisted it into something much more negative than it would've been otherwise.

needless to say They Did Not Have A Smooth Start. emet dying at his own hand is one of the things hildegarde regrets most to this day, even if emet lives once more. he felt pulled toward him the whole time they 'worked' together, & while he remained wary he genuinely wanted to understand him & god, he was desperate for there to be an ending to it all that did not involve anyone dying. womp womp. you're in ffxiv boy. get used to it. the romantic feelings likely started forming properly during the whole 'building a talos to reach mt gulg' section, which... sure made the betrayal bite! but he's fine ofc. (hildegarde's negative emotions after the dying gasp were so potent they forced emet to drag himself from the aetherial sea & infiltrate his dreams so he would not kill himself in his sleep. oops! he wasn't gonna let hildegarde fumble his "backup plan in case he loses against the wol" though. especially not as his soul regained the erased memories from elpis. which... also softened him some toward hildegarde. though he was already in his romantic feelings as well, seeing more & more of lachesis in hildegarde but also coming to appreciate hildegarde for who he is, he would've, well ok no he DID literally die rather than acknowledge them & change course. he COULD have changed course. but it simply did not feel like he even had that option after coming this far. & in a way dying also meant putting an end to everything he'd done. bah. guilt is a silly emotion. just live & be a better person, idiot)

i actually started reblogging stuff from it before i'd ever read it just because it was all over my dash and it looked neat by itself (and also people kept mentioning "hey this is just like the thing you wrote" so i got shown a lot of it anyway lol). started reading it a couple weeks ago even though i've had a bunch of the major spoilers revealed just via dashboard osmosis, and it's really good so far. haven't watched the anime yet. contains my exact brand of pedantry and wondering how exactly some classic rpg mechanics work except for once when you actually stop and dig into it it's not stupid and in fact very good and has something to say besides "durr hurr look at me i'm so clever for thinking about videoed game!" on paper this series is everything i'd hate but it really does go to show execution is everything.

but okok lemme lay the sort of backstory foundation here... basically we know dennis was so eager for ppl to like him (and more visibly so than he is when we pick up with the timeline of the show) so I imagine he was even more desperate in HS to be liked (cuz we see him reverting RIGHT back to that in the HS Reunion ep)... i think him n dee probably had like.. zero friends in HS but both Hated that. they did not like having to stick together. i think dee def seemed to have friends in HS like Ingrid, but dee always felt like she was superior to Ingrid n so wasn't really a "friend" lol.

den likely had some idea of who Mac n Charlie were since he mentions remembering the news show they made in 8th grade. I actually have the HC that Dennis was weirdly like Obsessed w Mac n Charlie from a distance for a Loooong time before really trying to make a move to get into their friend group. i think he was intimidated by them based on rumors, cuz we know Mac n Charlie had their Freight Train group.

Dee catches onto this quickly bc Den is so insanely obvious n she teases him for it which spurs den to make up some entire lie abt only wanting to get in with Mac/Charlie's group bc they have connections to the 'cool crowd' n THATS what dennis is actually aiming for (totally. lmao... again. liar)... so this pushes dennis to a breaking point cuz dee is like 'well ur never gonna get in there if u just sit here and stare at them, moron'

so my idea for how Mac n Dennis first meet is basically dennis following Mac home that day after him n dee have that convo thinking he's being 'sneaky' n all trying to build up the nerve to actually talk to Mac. but Mac has that hypervigilance so he catches on that he's being followed n takes this 'shortcut' that he knows well n knows there's a stoop that's easy to trip over if u don't know the route well... so Dennis trips n makes his presence known LOL n before he can get up Mac pulls a pocket knife on him n demands dennis tell him why he's following him. den makes up an excuse abt wanting to buy drugs, but Mac has him empty his pockets n they're empty so he's like 'u know u need money to buy drugs right? ur not getting shit for free from me I know you have the money' n dennis throws some compliments at mac to try n 'defuse' the situation n it works enough that mac just tells dennis to leave him alone n not pull some shit like that again

the next day mac is bragging to charlie n dooley while they're sitting under the bleachers at lunch n thinking he's so cool for running this kid off but charlie is ANRGY n mac doesn't understand why n charlies like 'nono dude u don't understand... he's from the reynolds family, right?' n mac is like 'yeah? so?' n charlies like 'oh my god don't u GET it?? this is the perfect opportunity to sew ourselves in mac!' n mac is like 'oh I guess that's a good point' so charlie has mac go reluctantly apologize to dennis n invite him to hang out w them.. dennis is all smug when dee is glaring at him.

n charlie takes this as an opportunity to just totally humiliate dennis with insisting there's all these 'initiations' in order to get into their friend group (which we know is at least partially true, but charlie gets really excessive with it cuz its funny to him LOL) ranging from shit like dining n dashing to more fucked up like killing crows ('because they're the most annoying kinds of birds dennis, don't you know that?' cuz uh.. charlie bird special interest I guess) n dennis totally cries after having to kill the crows n charlies laughing his ass off meanwhile mac is rlly concerned abt dennis ... this trend continues of charlie making dennis do shit that used to make both him and mac laugh, but instead mac actually feels bad for dennis. that starts really getting on charlie's nerves cuz he has like zero sympathy for dennis n doesn't understand why macs getting soft all of a sudden for dennis reynolds of all ppl too. (he has the sort of frank mentality in Ass Kickers United where he wants to see how far he can push ppl n that's how he has fun, like I bet u for a while he was constantly impressed by/jealous of the fact that dee got someone to eat Horse Shit)

(cuz this is also where i think the charlie/dee dynamic gets interesting too... again I have the HC that it all starts when charlie is over with mac at dennis' house n sees dee lighting things on fire n throwing them into the pool in the backyard. pyromaniac to pyromaniac lollll... n I think overall charlie admires dee's really cruel/dark side. i don't ship ch*rdee but in canon I think they def have a bond that is probably rooted in shit like that n I think its interesting LOL)

i think this is where a lot of mac's internalized homophobia starts to take root cuz charlie makes a lot of patronizing comments abt mac and dennis cuz charlie knows mac like the back of his hand n knows every way to push his buttons n get inside his head. so we then have dennis getting a similar treatment to his chaotic homelife where mac was just beginning to warm up n feel 'safe' but then gets more distant n hostile (and even worse, not knowing why mac's had a sudden change in demeanor) n I think this sets the tone for how even to this day macdennis' dynamic fluctuates... cuz of course at a certain point (esp after going to college) I think dennis is tired of feeling like the 'weak one' who gets shit on (esp after being in the frat house) so he sees all the ways his frat brothers will humiliate guys to prop themselves up n replicates this kind of behavior. however, with mac, as I've stated in other macden posts... there are always some invisible boundaries with mac that even dennis isn't fully aware are there for a long, long time.

we already know charlie/dee manage to find a lot of enjoyment in watching mac n dennis act like total jackasses while charlie n dee are pulling all the strings (Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom) n I think that's been a long-running thing personally...

Someone requested it on wattpad so am going to try to deliver :D warning for some blood, violence and manipulation.

I am using this theme for the soulmate stuff: at age 18, you get your soulmate's name on your chest, written in their handwriting. When the two of you meet, the writing warms up a lot. After the first meeting, it just grow warmer when the two of you are near each other but it won't be as warm as the first meeting.

It was a nice evening in Mount Ormond, snowflakes falling silently and the sky as grey as ever. The Legion was what we could say chilling in their small "basement quarter"

Usually it was on one of those calm day that Frank would order everyone to run around and wreck havoc in the small town... But this time he decided that they needed the rest. He was casually smoking a cigarette (stolen, mind you) while Joey was reading some comics (stolen too) and Susie was discussing with Julie, the two of them giggling from time to time.

Puffing out some smoke, he mindlessly scratched his neck, thinking about what they could do on their next "mission".

"Oh Frank, who is that?"

He stopped his thoughts instantly, his attention turning to the soft spoken voice of Susie. She wasn't really one to speak her mind so it was acutally surprising to hear her initiate a dialogue.

"Who?" He questionned back, raising an eyebrow at her question, Julie and Joey now curiously watching them.

"The name on your chest."

His eyes widened a bit at this but his whole face stayed put, doing his best to hide any feelings that his face might betray. He hadn't noticed his jacket had loosen up and that it was showing the first letter that were written on his chest. Of course Susie would be the one interested in those soulmates stories. She always was the naive one. He carelessly pulled the the left side of his jacket, showing off what was written on his left pec.

They all stared, Susie with longing and envy, Joey with disbelief and Julie with amusement. Seems like their opinions on the whole soulmate stuff differed greatly from one another.

"Have you met them ?" The pink haired girl asked, a smile forming on her face, showing her braces.

"No."

His voice was cutting. Not cold but clear as to show that he didn't really care about this whole story. Not anymore that is.

"Really ? Not even a tiny bit of warm?"

Now Frank was starting to be annoyed by Susie's insistance. He could understand that someone like her would be into soulmate stories but why was she satiating her curiosity with his own mark? Joey seemed to notice his change of mood and went in for a save.

"You know that soulmates rarely even meet each other right ?"

"Yeah Susie, let the men go they're not ready for a hopeless romantic like you!"

Julie snickered at her own comment as Susie's cheeks grew red. She quietly went back to where she had been, next to her best friend.

Frank took a much needed smoke of his almost finished cigarette, feeling strangely agitated. After one year of desperately looking for his soulmate, he just stopped caring all together. Yet his heart betrayed him, still hurt of the void that had took place in his chest. He stomped on his cigarette adding one more thing as he grabbed his mask:

"We're going out tonight."

You were running. From what? Hell, you didn't even know. It felt like seconds ago you arrived in this... place? You had met another person that you remembered as Bill who sighed dramatically when he saw you, saying he had to deal with a "new one". You didn't know what that mean. He just told you that you were stuck in a sort of game in which you could get hurt at any moment. You had the time to have a very brief explication about generators needed to open the exit of this hellhole and then he yelled that you needed to run away as fast as possible because the two of you were being chased. Bill basically told you he was going to be a bait for you to get away.

Part of you was very moved by his act, the other half wish he didn't left you alone.

Now you were still running, your lungs hurt so much and your muscles were screaming in pain and you were simply running out of energy. What exactly was even chasing you? Was it some kind of monster ? A wild animal that went feral? You cried out as you felt a sudden burn in your chest, as if you were being marked with a red hot iron. As you ran it got warmer and warmer making you almost fall from the pain, but you kept running, scared of what was pursuing you, scared and-

"Agh!"

You had collided with someone so harshly that you fell on your bum, your pants getting wet as you landed on the snow that imediatly melted at the contact. You grunted, the pain and exhaustion hitting you all at once. Luckyly the burn in your chest had subsided, leaving a pleasant warmness that you couldn't exactly identify at the moment. When you came back to your senses you actually took note of the person you bumped into. He looked as lost as you, blinking at you and out of breath. He had a black jacket, his face actually quite attractive unexpectedly. His brown eyes were staring right back at you, taking in all the details of your own face. His hair was a light brown, looking even blond where the light was shining on it, short and well kept, the last detail you noticed was the tatoo on his neck.

"Well... hello?"

You jumped from your dreamy state, your cheeks warming up at the thought that yes, you were totally checking this guy out while you were supposedly being hunted.

"Sorry for bumping into you like that, I was... well running away, just like you."

He helped you getting up and you thanked him shily, your heart beating rapidly and this warmth in your chest, buzzing pleasantly, you couldn't pinpoint what it was exactly.

"You're new ?" He asked, "I've never seen you before."

You explained him your situation, he listened intently at everything you had to say. You felt so warm... and those eyes...

"Well it seems like you're indeed the newest addition... I'll make it simple for you. All the people stuck here, you included, have been chosen by the entity. I can't really explain you what it is... it basically created this whole world and it's aware of everything. Basically like a god... from time to time, four survivors like you and I are reunited in a sick game of cat and mouse. We're being hunted by a killer."

You gaped, completely horrified at the situation.

"So to get away we need to fix those generators right ?"

"Exactly! How did you know?"

Now you felt bad that you actually left the guy alone against a killer... but you had no clue of what was going on...

"Hey, he'll be fine, I'm sure. Here let me show how to fix those."

You felt a pleasant tingle at the warmth of his hand holding yours. He did show you how to fix a generator even though you made it explode several times. He was so patient and sweet with you... and still this warmth in your chest... finally you started putting two and two together. What if he was..?

"Uh tell me..." you finally said, catching his attention off of the generator, "I don't think I have caught your name?"

"Oh right ! Sorry about that, I'm Frank M-"

"Morrison." You finished for him.

He stared at you, looking half surprised.

"So I wasn't the only one feeling it..."

You stared at one another once again, completely oblivious to the killer that might be looking for you at the moment.

"So we meet... and in a place like this, how peculiar!" You laughed, your eyes lighting up at the thought that you just met your soulmate.

He laughed with you, a small smile on his lips. It looked like he was admiring you so much right now. The noise of a generator being repaired rang and you suddenly remembered what you were doing.

"Let's finish this first and get away then alright?"

He nodded and you both got back to work. In no time the engine roared back to life and you beamed at Frank.

"We did it ! I think the exit is this way, let's go."

You began walking rapidly toward the source of light, Frank following closely. Or so you thought. You heard your name being called by his voice. You would have been happy to hear it if it wasn't for the... off tone he had. You curiously turn around to see him standing still near the generator. He had a mask on, all white with some disturbing features drawn on it. Was that blood smeared where his mouth should be? You froze as you saw the hunting knife in his right hand.

"Now let's see how fast you run, dear soulmate" he said in a sing song tone, apparently amused by your shocked expression.

And then it dawned on you. The killer was none other than him. You had been fooled and so devilisly so. Your heart throbbed painfully at the thought that... your soulmate was a crazy killer. You made a sudden u turn, dashing for the general direction of the exit. You heard him running right behind you, his breathing heavy with what seemed an insane excitement. He laughed at your poor attempt to run from him and pounced on you, making you both fall in the snow, his weight crushing you and preventing you from getting away. He got up and as soon as he did so, he grabbed you by the arm to forcefully roll you on your back.

You were terrified, tears rolling down your face and heart beating furiously in fear of dying right here right now. Your eyes were locked on his hunter knife and his bloody mask. You closed your eyes when he raised his weapon, expecting a brutal death... but it did not come. Instead he had started cutting the shirt under your jacket. You cried and whined, horrified at what he might do to you.

"Stop moving. I just want to see it."

You stood still, eyes wide as he literally cut a whole part of your shirt. There his name was. Written in his handwriting. He seemed hypnotized by it. His hand went to touch it, his fingertips feeling so cold on your sweaty skin. The writing reacted, heating up at his contact and making you tremble, this time you weren't sure if it was from fear only. After what felt like an eternity of him sort of molesting your chest, he abruptly stood up, watching you intently, his knife twirling expertly in his hand.

"Get up."

You did as you were told, too scared to consider disobeying him. He advanced toward you, his mask nearly inches from your own face, you could feel his breathing fanning over your own skin. He caressed your cheeks surprisingly soflty, drying some of your tears.

"You will run straight to the exit. We will meet again. You will NOT forget me. Understood?"

You nodded, terror preventing you from forming actual words. He seemed contempted about that for now as he chuckled. He lifted his mask, his oh so enchanting brown eyes staring right back at you.

"Don't forget that from now on, you're mine. "

You ran. Tears still rolling and heart hammering in your chest. You looked back one time, wondering if he was chasing you, but he was still there, not moving from his pot. He was waving, his knife still in hand. You knew for a fact that, as you ran to the exit, somehow you felt empty, the pleasant warm from being so close to your soulmate now fading as you ran as far away from him.

You knew for a fact that this wouldn't be your last encounter.

I won't look down on Mariah bf for hustling cause it would technically by textbook definition be sexiest to assume he's a scrub for wanting a come up but a girl latching onto a powerful man is more of the norm. Beyonce attracted what she used to be so that's what I can say on that.

i think it's an nct thing? it's why i never get tired of them bc they're always active in a way. you should've seen how things went down last year! march 127 album, april dream mini-album, may 127 repackage, june wayv album and the whole nct 2020 thing. it was a wild year. about the track, i listened to it once and forgot about it. might give it a few more listens but it might not grow on me at all. yes! wasn't a big fan of hot sauce at first too bc i thought the intro was weird (not jaemin's part, like the first thing that plays). and yes, that hook loops in my head 24/7. i even made it my instagram bio.
