A concept of Will Graham as a reluctant Hades / guardian of the dead which begins as most stories begin: with a walk in the forest, boots crunching beneath tired feet, seeking the wounded animal that's been plaguing his nights.
In this endeavor, the human man found a pocket universe and he fell, head over feet, like the fabled Alice to her fractured Wonderland. There was a long table and at the head of the table, an uncut pomegranate, a knife gleaming at its side. He ignored the fruit until he couldn't, until hunger forced his hand and tongue into the seeds, he devoured it, skin and all.
The gloaming darkness had a new king, after so many years of having Cerberus' cries ignored.
Within those days, he found and attended to three massive dogs and their wounds, who rewarded him by following after him at his knees, long tongues lolling, their eyes bright and obedient for their new master.
This barren world and its hungry dead are under his command and he wants no part of it, but after several years, he's come to an agreement with himself and this world he filters in and out of.
