First Lines Meme
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories(or however many you have altogether). See if there are any patterns. Then tag your favorite authors.
All can be found here.
1.) The Thickening of Fear
Hannibal knows that he did not break Will.
If it had been his mistake - if he’d miscalculated, pulled when he ought to have pushed, or pushed too hard - the problem would have been more easily corrected.
2.) The Memory of the Knife
He can’t stand Hannibal touching him.
3.) Leashing Machiavelli
Had Hannibal had not been with him Will probably wouldn’t have stopped for the dog.
The idea of dogs seemed to Will to be incongruous to his life with Hannibal, one of the sacrifices that he locked away in a box far from his heart when he chose what he’d chosen, and he so he’d done his best to avoid dwelling too long on any of the strays that they've encountered in their travels.
But Hannibal is with him now, and it is Hannibal who pauses in his stride, curious, when the sound of the growling comes to them, his head cocked as though he's caught some note of unexpected music.
4.) Ticklish
Will makes his discovery nearly by accident.
He gets up in the night to go to the bathroom, and one of his fingers by happenstance brush the arch of Hannibal’s foot.
5.) White Roses
The roses drew Hannibal to the castle.
The soft light of the full moon fell on the tangles of white roses which in such a way that they seemed nearly to glow, and Hannibal was so taken in by their beauty that he wandered far into the castle grounds, cutting the largest and brightest blooms from the bushes as he went, heedless of the thorns.
6.) Reassurance
Hannibal watches.
The ache in his broken arm is a distant melody, the pain of the bullet wound more acute as Will slices away the bandages to expose it. He thinks, watching Will’s hands work the scissors, the concentration carved on his battered face, that it might take him some time to understand exactly what has changed.
7.) The Place That Made Him
It’s been strange for Will, coming back to a place that never really had been home and that certainly isn’t anymore.
8.) Adoration
Hannibal has done no more than part Will’s legs, gentle pressure on the inside his knees to overcome slight shy resistance, and yet Will is already flushed in a tangle of excitement and embarrassment.
9.) Universal Donor
To Hannibal, the scent of fresh linen and the sensation of the fabric against his skin are not discrete experiences. They bleed together in the hypovolemic haze of his mind, a calming melody made richer by fragrant notes of drying blood. His own, he thinks, but sleeps on untroubled.
Will is close.
10.) Black Silk Printed with Pale Roses
Hannibal lower the shopping bags onto the kitchen counter and began to unpack. Will came over to help, but paused to take advantage of the opportunity to get a good look at Hannibal’s ass in the white linen shorts as he bent to put a bundle of leeks in the vegetable draw. “I know you’re watching,” Hannibal said, the smugness of his smile clear in his voice, so it was only natural that Will pretend that he hadn’t been.
11.) Bleeding Out
As soon as Hannibal opened the front door he smelled the blood.
A few steps into the interior and he was able to confirm by scent what he had already known intellectually, which was that it was Will’s blood - specifically and exclusively.
12.) Scars
Will bent to lash the boat to the dock, and felt the scar in his belly twinge as his muscles shifted, a dull fishhook tugging at him from the inside.
---
Too tired to try to tease out themes, beyond that “Hannibal” appears in the first sentence of nine of the dozen, lol.
Tagging @experimentalmadness, @fataldrum, @damnslippyplanet, @victorineb, @lecteronthelam, @avegetariancannibal, @death--stranded, @lovecrimevariations and anyone else who might like to play.
